Abstract Prior research from this group indicates that the human lung extensively metabolizes parent estrogens to reactive catechols. Estrone (E1) and estradiol (E2) are converted to the putative carcinogens, 4-hydroxyestrone (4-OHE1) and 4-hydroxyestradiol (4-OHE2), by cytochrome P450 1B1 (CYP1B1). This paper presents the results of a review of the treatment of uncertainty in performance assessment (PA) and safety-case development, carried out as part of the European Commission (EC) project PAMINA (Performance Assessment Methodologies IN Application to Guide the Development of the Safety Case). Introdução: A hipertensão arterial sistêmica (HAS) é uma doença do tipo crônica, por vezes assintomática, caracterizada pelo aumento sustentado dos níveis pressóricos e com potenciais implicações para diversos órgãos e sistemas, quando não tratada adequadamente. Fatores de risco modificáveis (estresse, sedentarismo, obesidade, tabagismo e etilismo) e não modificáveis (história familiar, idade, sexo e étnia) contribuem para seu surgimento.
