English
The purpose of development is improving welfare of the community such that in every stage of development the welfare of society is always prioritized. Indonesia as an agrarian country with a large population and the dominant proportion of rural farm households prioritizes farmers’ welfare as a strategic issue. One of the farmers’ welfare survey tools is Farmers’ Terms of Trade (FTT). FTT is the ratio of prices received by farmers to the price paid by farmers. This concept simply reflects the purchasing power of farmers’ income. However,

Summary“Which index formula at the elementary level, where no expenditure share weights are available, corresponds to a desired aggregate index?” To answer this question, this paper develops a statistical approach. It proposes a theoretical framework which makes it possible to achieve numerical equivalence of an elementary index with the Laspeyres, Paasche or Fisher price index. Depending on the price elasticity, different elementary indices should be applied to different groups of goods in order to approach the desired aggregate index as closely as possible. Abstract China has long struggled with high medical costs and irrational drug pricing, but has recently made significant progress by implementing drug negotiation strategies to effectively reduce the prices of targeted drugs. To accurately depict drug prices on a global scale, a cross-sectional time-series analysis was conducted in China using Multinational Integrated Data Analysis System data from the first quarter of 2017 to the fourth quarter of 2022. This analysis compared the prices of 140 price-negotiated innovative drugs across 15 countries using five distinct price indices—Average Pric

SummaryThis paper attempts to establish a greater awareness among researchers for the noteworthy contributions to price index theory made by Moritz Wilhelm Drobisch (1802-1896), a German mathematician and philosopher at the Universita¨ t Leipzig. Few economists and statisticians are aware of the fact that neither Étienne Laspeyres nor Hermann Paasche originally devised the well-known price indices that presently carry their names. Moritz Wilhelm Drobisch was the first to publish them in 1871 in a treatise and, shortly thereafter, in an abridged version that appeared in this very journal. He re

Abstract:
Pharmaceutical pricing and reimbursement regulations create a dilemma to achieve a single pharmaceutical market in the European Union (EU). Although considerable progress has been made in the past years in harmonization of the pharmaceutical markets, the pricing decisions or systems have continued to be operated on a national basis, which results in price differences across the member states. These price differences create opportunity for parallel trade which, in combination with the EU single market principle calling for the free movement of goods, could lead to reduction in price differences

For previously identified weakly separable blockings of goods and assets, we construct aggregates using four superlative index numbers, the Fisher, Sato-Vartia, Törnqvist, and Walsh, two non-superlative indexes, the Laspeyres and Paasche, and the atheoretical simple summation. We conduct several tests to examine how well each of these aggregates “fit” the data. These tests are how close the aggregates come to solving the revealed preference conditions for weak separability, how often each aggregate gets the direction of change correct, and how well the aggregates mimic the preference ranking f

We explore the practicality of constructing federal wage indexes, in the spirit of the ECI, using Office of Personnel Management (OPM) salary data. To accomplish this task, we aggregate OPM records into occupation and industry groups. Although these salary data have a crosswalk for mapping OPM occupation codes into the Standard Occupational Classification system, no corresponding crosswalk exists for industries. There are two issues to be considered in this paper which are temporal aggregation and seasonality problem in housing index. Seasonality appeared in time series when the price or index movement is repetitive around the trend line. If the housing index consists of seasonal effect it will mislead measurement on real housing performance based on economic situation. In other words, cyclical effect should be avoided in measuring housing performance. T
