Abstract:
African padauk is a tree whose wood is an excellent material for producing decorative items. The wood is susceptible to sunlight exposure and degrades severely, even after short exposures, which leads to discoloration. Ultraviolet irradiation is the main factor that produces discoloration. In this study, chemical changes occurring on the wood surfaces were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The discoloration of the African padauk was mainly because of the photodegradation of lignin and extractives by ultraviolet radiation. Additionally, the inhibitory effect of different concentrations of red iron oxide coating was investigated. The results revealed that the chromatismΔE⁎was considerably reduced with the protection of iron oxide. However, the inhibition of the discoloration rate of the specimens covered with a film of red iron oxide increased with values reaching approximately 80%. The red iron oxide coating had a strong inhibitory effect on the discoloration of the African padauk.

Abstract:
Thermal modification is an environmentally friendly process in which technological properties of wood are modified using thermal energy without adding chemicals, the result of which is a value-added product. Wood samples of three tropical wood species (meranti, padauk, and merbau) were thermally treated according to the ThermoWood process at various temperatures (160, 180, 210 °C) and changes in isolated lignin were evaluated by nitrobenzene oxidation (NBO), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and size exclusion chromatography (SEC). New data on the lignins of the investigated wood species were obtained, e.g., syringyl to guaiacyl ratio values (S/G) were 1.21, 1.70, and 3.09, and molecular weights were approx. 8600, 4300, and 8300 g·mol−1 for meranti, padauk, and merbau, respectively. Higher temperatures cause a decrease of methoxyls and an increase in C=O groups. Simultaneous degradation and condensation reactions in lignin occur during thermal treatment, the latter prevailing at higher temperatures.

The article considers the granulometric analysis of selected samples of tropical wood dust from cumaru (Dipteryx odorata), padauk (Pterocarpus soyauxii), ebony (Diospyros crassiflora), and marblewood (Marmaroxylon racemosum) using a Makita 9556CR 1400 W grinder and K36 sandpaper, for the purpose of selecting the percentages of the various fractions (<63; 63; 71; 200; 315; 500 μm) of wood dust samples. Tropical wood dust samples were made using a hand orbital sander Makita 9556CR 1400 W, and sized using the automatic mesh vibratory sieve machine Retsch AS 200 control. Most dust particles (between 50–79%) from all wood samples were under 100 μm in size. This higher percentage is associated with the risk of inhaling the dust, causing damage to the respiratory system, and the risk of a dust-air explosive mixture. Results of granulometric fractions contribution of tropical woods sanding dust were similar. Ignition temperature was changed by particle sizes, and decreased with a decrease in particle sizes. We found that marblewood has the highest minimum ignition temperature (400–420 °C), and padauk has the lowest (370–390 °C).

Abstract:
This paper investigates chemical bleaching of wood and its ageing to make specie specific recommendations on which bleaching solutions to use when color adjusting veneer for furniture restoration.  In more detail, chemical bleaching of European walnut (Juglans regia), Rio rosewood (Dalbergia nigra), purpleheart (Peltogyne spp.), Honduras mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) and padauk (Pterocarpus spp.) has been investigated using eleven different bleaching solutions. Both oxidative (e.g. hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate) and reductive (e.g. oxalic acid and sodium bisulfite) solutions have been used. Furthermore, to investigate aging of the bleached surfaces they were subjected to sunlight behind a glass window until a change in Blue Wool Scale 3 was obtained. Visual examination has been used to rank the color change after the chemical bleaching and the sun light exposure experiment. A small color change after the sun light exposure experiment indicates a high degree of lightfastness and is preferred for long term stability when restoring furniture. The results show that the wood species react in different ways to the investigated bleach solutions and to sun light exposure. It can also be noted that all investigated solutions were not suitable for all wood species. Moreover, the sun light exposure experiment identified effective bleach solutions that gave an unacceptable low lightfastness for mahogany and padauk after chemical bleaching. Based on the chemical bleaching and sun light exposure results, preferred bleaching solutions are recommended for the investigated wood species.<br>En vanlig restaureringsuppgift är att ställvis ersätta borttappat träfaner på en möbel. Originalfaneret har blekts med tiden, varför det nya faneret ofta är för färgstarkt och färgen behöver reduceras. När vi upplever en bit padouk som intensivt röd eller amarant som lila, beror det på att det i trät finns ämnen som tar upp energi motsvarande energin i våglängder av synligt ljus. När ämnena absorberar en del av det synliga ljuset registrerar våra näthinnor att de saknas, vilket tolkas som en färg av vår hjärna. De ämnen som absorberar synligt ljus kan brytas ner av solljus över längre tid eller på några minuter genom tillförseln av ett oxidations- eller reduktionsmedel. I mitt examensarbete undersöker jag hur olika oxidations- och reduktionsmedel bleker olika träslag. Jag har valt att undersöka hondurasmahogny, europeisk valnöt, brasiliansk jakaranda, padouk och amarant, då det är träslag som ofta behöver blekas när de används i kompletteringar. Vidare undersöker jag hur den genom blekning erhållna färgen i trät i sin tur påverkas av solljus. Detta är viktigt för att förstå hur de restaurerade delarna på möbeln kommer att åldras. De viktigaste resultaten sammanfattas nedan: Valnöt, jakaranda och amarant reagerade på liknande sätt vid kemisk blekning med de i studien använda lösningarna. De blekas mest av natriumhydroxid och salter med väteperoxid. Mahogny och padouk reagerade på liknande sätt vid kemisk blekning. De blektes mest, med ett jämnt resultat, av väteperoxid med natriumhydroxid eller ammoniak. Oxidationsmedel blekte effektivare än reduktionsmedel. Enbart väteperoxid gjorde jakaranda mörkare. En hög ammoniakkoncentration gav blekare resultat än en låg på alla träslag utom amarant. Valnöt var mest ljusäkta av de undersökta träslagen. Majoriteten av mahognyproverna mörknade av solljusexponeringen. Jakaranda och padouk blektes av solljusexponeringen. Flertalet amarantprover mörknade och ett mindre antal blektes av solljusexponeringen. Solljusexperimentet identifierade blekningslösningar som gav oacceptabelt låg ljusäkthet på mahogny och padouk.   För effektiv blekning och godtagbar ljusäkthet rekommenderas följande lösningar för respektive träslag. Välj lösning beroende på önskad blekningsgrad (se Tabell 2 sid 10). Mahogny: väteperoxid, oxalsyra eller kaliumpermanganat och natriumbisulfit. Valnöt: väteperoxid med eller utan ammoniak, väteperoxid och natriumhydroxid med eller utan salter eller natriumbisulfit och oxalsyra. Jakaranda: väteperoxid med ammoniak, oxalsyra, väteperoxid och natriumhydroxid med eller utan salter, natriumbisulfit och oxalsyra eller kaliumpermanganat och natriumbisulfit. Padouk: natriumhydroxid, natriumsilikat och kalciumhydroxid följt av väteperoxid. Amarant: väteperoxid med eller utan ammoniak, väteperoxid och natriumhydroxid med eller utan salter eller kaliumpermanganat och natriumbisulfit.

Nel presente studio sono state eseguite analisi chimiche su sedimenti fluviali, prelevati in 233 siti rappresentativi, fra i corsi d'acqua che attraversano la pianura Padana. L'obbiettivo dello studio era di caratterizzare il sedimento e determinarne il suo stato di qualità. Parallelamente è stata effettuata, un'indagine sulle comunità di macroinvertebrati, fra alcuni degli affluenti di sinistra del Po e sul Po stesso. I sedimenti sono stati analizzati con uno spettrofotometro a fluorescenza a raggi x (XRF). I risultati ottenuti, durante le analisi e le elaborazioni cartografiche eseguite, vengono riportati e discussi in questo documento. Le analisi chimiche indicano che la composizione del sedimento è caratteristica secondo la sua provenienza ed è determinata dalla litologia dell'area che i fiumi attraversano. Sono state riscontrate particolari anomalie, delle concentrazioni di alcuni elementi potenzialmente tossici, a valle dei centri urbani. Lo studio delle comunità di macroinvertebrati concorda con i risultati ottenuti attraverso le analisi chimiche.

Gli eventi sismici del 2012 in Emilia-Romagna hanno provocato una rinnovata attenzione su alcuni fenomeni di carattere geologico superficiale. Sono stati in particolare riferiti dalla stampa locale e osservati dagli abitanti gorgogliamenti di gas naturale nelle acque dei pozzi, nelle acque dei canali di bonifica ed emissioni di gas libero, in prevalenza metano. In questa tesi si è voluto mettere in luce tutto lo sviluppo storico del metano Padano, facendo un particolare riferimento al metano più superficiale, ossia al metano denominato biogenico, illustrando le sue origini, le sue prime manifestazioni, la sua scoperta, la sua derivazione dalla torba, le sue prime produzioni, considerando gli impatti ambientali possibili e verificati, arrivando fino all’attuale periodo in cui esso si è affermato diventando una delle fonti principali di energia ed una delle materie prime più preziose. La Tesi ha lo scopo di meglio chiarire l’origine e la modalità di occorrenza del metano biogenico Padano. Viene inoltre sviluppata una indagine orientata a identificare gli orizzonti geologici più “produttivi” di metano biogenico della regione Emilia-Romagna originato da torbe. Le aree effettivamente più produttive sono una parte di quelle ricche in torba e sono caratterizzate da buone capacità di conservazione nel tempo delle caratteristiche chimico fisiche favorevoli alla degradazione batterica della sostanza organica. Ciò avviene quando vengono mantenute particolari condizioni di isolamento tramite argille ecc. Il metano biogenico Padano viene costantemente espulso dai sedimenti e naturalmente disperso in atmosfera. Eventuali attività di captazione del metano dalle aree maggiormente produttive potranno contribuire alla diminuzione dell’effetto serra e alla contestuale produzione a piccola o piccolissima scala di energia nei limiti delle normative in vigore soggette ad eventuali possibili revisioni in analogia a quanto disposto per altre forme di generazione di metano come biogas, discariche ecc.

Padang city is a coastal city in Sumatra. Padang is the region that is most likely to be devastated by a tsunami that may occur in the near future. The research estimated that the arrival of a tsunami (ETA) in Padang city could be about 20-30 minutes. Padang city is situated on the very flat liquefiable ground, with approximately 800,000 people in which 50% of residents live in tsunami inundation area. Therefore, it would be difficult to evacuate almost 400,000 people in a short time to a safe tsunami zone. There would not be enough time for people to reach a safe or higher place. The local government has made various efforts to develop local early warning systems and disaster management. These activities include preparing legislation, preparing evacuation infrastructure, building shelters, and preparing resources for government officials and for the community, and other support activities that must be done to anticipate the tsunami hazard. It is recognized that the provision of all infrastructure for evacuation requires a longer period, and is not an easy thing to do considering that Padang city is not a prosperous city, and it has low revenue. In the light of the condition, Padang city needs a tsunami evacuation planning. This study aims to evaluate the process of tsunami evacuation planning in Padang city, Indonesia. The evaluation will be through measurement and assessment of a disaster preparedness index of tsunami evacuation, with the assessment object given by the government and society. To achieve the aim and the objective of the research, the single case study is selected. This study implements a mixed method application, with semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire survey. Content analysis is used to analyse qualitative data, and the descriptive statistics technique is used to examine quantitative data. Based on the results of the survey, it is known that the knowledge of individuals in Padang city is apparently good. It is comprehended by their ability to understand the meaning of the tsunami disaster, the causes of the earthquake and tsunami and their characteristics. Mosque in tsunami zone is the basis in tsunami preparedness, because it has many advantages among them: as a vertical tsunami shelter, as a shortest-fastest way, as a facility to disseminate disaster/EWS and as a facility to educate students. People who work in BPBDs will stay/permanently there for five years. If the displacement remains the case, at least BPBD can recommend an employee who has the capacity in disaster and participates in a forum on the disaster in Padang city. Tsunami evacuation maps must be reviewed, both from the number of maps distribution and the ability and willingness of the public to read maps, the effectiveness of the placement of maps at the intersection and the road.

Le travail proposé est centré sur une incription d’Este retrouvée en 1979. Décrite à partir des années 1990 par des chercheurs comme Anna Marinetti ou Aldo-Luigi Prosdocimi, elle n’a cependant jamais été complètement traduite. Nous formulons des pistes de compréhension du texte, en partant d’une analyse la plus précise possible de l’objet en lui-même et en rapprochant les termes de l’inscription d’autres mots figurant dans le corpus vénète. L’étude de ce texte d’Este permet ainsi de parcourir l’ensemble des inscriptions vénètes et d’envisager à la fois la langue de ce peuple et leur civilisation, à travers notamment les rapports entre Este, Padoue et les Celtes<br>The proposed study focuses on an inscription found during excavations in Este in 1979. From the 1990’s onwards researchers like Anna Marinetti or Aldo[…] analysed the text, but without being able to fully/completely translate the inscription. Their interpretations form the basis of our (study/work/analysis). After studying the epigraphic characteristics of this inscription we will formulate new hypothesis on its meaning. The text cannot be separated from the rest of the venetic inscriptions. This study encompasses the language of the Venetic People, its civilization and especially relations between Padova, Este and the Celts

Abstract:
Kecamatan Panti merupakan penghasil kopi terbesar kedua di Kabupaten Jember setelah Kecamatan Silo. Perkebunan kopi di Kecamatan Panti tahun 2016 memiliki luas lahan sebesar 1096ha, dengan ketinggian 50-1.340mdpl. Dengan ketinggian rata-rata tersebut salah satu tanaman kopi yang ditanam yaitu kopi arabika. Berdasarkan banyaknya perkebunan kopi yang ada, maka pada pengolahan kopi olah basah akan menghasilkan banyak limbah cair dan limbah padat. Limbah buah kopi berupa daging buah secara fisik komposisi mencapai 48%, terdiri dari kulit buah 42% dan kulit biji 6%. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui proses pengolahan kopi arabika, menentukan potensi penerapan produksi bersih yang dapat diterapkan dan menentukan prioritas utama berdasarkan analisis kelayakan ekonomi. Metode yang digunakan yaitu mengukur produk, limbah, dan lain-lain menggunakan analisis neraca massa. Hasil analisis neraca massa dalam 1ton kopi merah dan input air 3146,63 liter menghasilkan rendemen biji kopi 40%, limbah padat 38,4%, limbah cair 2946 liter. Limbah padat diperoleh dari proses pulping dan limbah cair diperoleh dari proses sortasi rambang, pulping, dan washing. Berdasarkan analisis neraca massa tersebut potensi penerapan produksi yang dapat diterapkan pada limbah padat yaitu pembuatan teh (cascara), pakan ternak, kompos blok, pada limbah cair yaitu pembuatan biogas dan pupuk organik cair. Berdasarkan alternatif tersebut, pembuatan teh (cascara) merupakan prioritas utama untuk diterapkan pada limbah padat karena memiliki nilai NPV Rp 997.230.980, IRR 40%, PBP 7,85 dan B/C Rasio 3,70 ; sedangkan pembuatan biogas merupakan prioritas utama untuk diterapkan pada limbah cair karena memiliki nilai NPV Rp 7.344.691.114 , IRR 45%, PBP 1,51 dan B/C Rasio 1,51.

Abstract:
Kecamatan Maesan merupakan sentra kopi arabika terbesar kedua di Kabupaten Bondowoso. Hal itu dibuktikan dengan meningkatnya sebaran luas tanaman kopi arabika sebesar 1.743,15 ha. Permintaan pasar nasional terhadap komoditi arabika sebesar 60% dan 40% kopi robusta. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan yaitu perluasan areal tanam dan peningkatan mutu kopi melalui perubahan proses pengolahan kering menjadi pengolahan basah. Pengolahan kopi secara basah dapat menghasilkan kopi dengan mutu yang lebih baik, namun pengolahan kopi secara basah relatif tidak ramah lingkungan karena menghasilkan limbah padat, cair dan gas. Agroindustri Kopi Wulan menjadi salah satu agroindustri yang menerapkan metode olah basah dan berpotensi memperoleh sertifikasi Indikasi Geografis (IG). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui proses pengolahan kopi arabika di Agroindustri Kopi Wulan, menentukan potensi penerapan produksi bersih dan menentukan prioritas berdasarkan aspek finansial (PBP, NPV, IRR, Net B/C). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil perhitungan kesetimbangan massa menunjukkan dalam 1000 kg produksi menghasilkan limbah padat sebanyak 605 kg, limbah cair 1329 liter dan biji kopi HS kering 258 kg dengan rendemen sebesar 25,8 %. Hasil analisis potensi penerapan produksi bersih pada limbah padat yaitu pembuatan teh cascara, pakan ternak dan pupuk kompos sedangkan penanganan limbah cair yaitu pupuk organik cair dan biogas. Berdasarkan alternatif tersebut, pakan ternak merupakan skala prioritas utama penanganan limbah padat dengan nilai NPV =Rp.156,739,790 ; IRR=47 % ; Net B/C= 6.83 dan PBP=1.35 sedangkan pada penanganan limbah cair yang menjadi prioritas utama adalah biogas dengan nilai NPV=Rp 1,300,637,526 ; IRR=51 % ; Net B/C=19.66 dan PBP sebesar 8,24.
