A rust fungus, Puccinia paederiae (Dietel) Gorlenko causing galls on the stem of the skunk vine (Paederia linearis Hook. f. var. linealis and P. linealis var. palida (Craib) Puff) was collected for phylogenetic study as no molecular data was exclusively available for this fungus. Three regions of ribosomal DNA sequences, small subunit (SSU), large subunit (LSU) and internal transcribed spacer region 1 (ITS1) were employed. The results of maximum parsimony and Bayesian methods suggested that among the trees with these sequences, this fungus was nested in Pucciniaceae clades and Puccinia species

Abstract:
The antibiotic resistance of phatogenic bacteria has become a serious health problem and has encouraged the search for novel and effective antimicrobial metabolites. Meanwhile, endophytic fungi have great potential as a natural source for antimicrobial agents. The endophytic fungi that live in plant tissue produces secondary metabolites which potentially act as an antibacterial compound. The isolation of fungi for antibacterial sources reduces the large amount of plant as a source of antibacterial agents. Hence, this study aims to obtain endophytic fungi isolates from Paederia foetida L. that

Paederia foetida L. (Rubiaceae) is a climber which is widely distributed in Asian countries including Malaysia. The plant is traditionally used to treat various diseases including diabetes. This study is to evaluate the enzymatic inhibition activity of Paederia foetida twigs extracts and to identify the metabolites responsible for the bioactivity by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) metabolomics profiling. Three different twig extracts, namely, hexane (PFH), chloroform (PFC), and methanol (PFM), were submerged for their α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition potential in 5 replicate

Sembukan plants (Paederia foetida L.) are wild vines that are usually used by people as potential medicinal plants for pain. The purpose of this study was to determine the ethanol extract of sembukan’s herbal analgesic activity in male white mice (Mus musculus) and determine the optimal dose of the ethanol extract from sembukan’s herbal (Paederia foetida L.) which has the potential as an analgesic. Sembukan’s herbal is extracted with 70% ethanol solvent and an analgesic activity test is divided into 5 treatment groups namely positive control group (potassium diclofenac), negative control, dose

In many developing countries, human health problems are solved using local plants. Knowledge of their chemical composition and biological activities can contribute to the creation of natural-based products usefully employed in human health. In this work, we analysed Paederia grandidieri leaves extracted with diverse eco-compatible procedures and subjected to chemical, microbiological, and cellular compatibility assays. Fresh leaves of P. grandidieri were harvested in southern Madagascar, where most of the population relies on P. grandidieri for daily dental care. Leaves were dried and powdered

The paederine genus Paederus s.l. (Coleoptera : Staphylinidae) is a hyperdiverse group of some 500 species worldwide. Although the subtribe Paederina, in which the genus resides, is monophyletic the status of numerous genera and subgenera is questionable and the current classification is likely to be flawed. As part of detailed studies on the paederine fauna of China, we undertook a preliminary morphologically-based phylogenetic analysis to determine the relationships of Paederus (Gnathopaederus) and related subgenera, as a basis for a revision of the subgenus, and as an attempt to provide a b

<b>Background and aims</b> – In Rubiaceae, most flowers have a tubular corolla. Earlier studies showed that a tubular corolla may develop from an annular primordium or result from postgenital fusion of petals. Often stamen-corolla tubes are formed, concurring with epipetaly. Moreover, flowers with a fenestrated tubular corolla occur. The scattered distribution of species with corolla splits in Rubiaceae suggests a multiple origin. We intended to answer the following questions: (1) should the tubular corollas studied be assigned to a single or to several character states?; and (2) are the corol
