Abstract A method for the determination of sulfites in shrimp developed by Kim and Kim and modified by Paino-Campa et al. for sausages has been further modified. Total sulfites are extracted by initially adding aluminum oxide to the sample and using an extraction solution at pH 12. In the reproducibility assays, coefficients of variation (CVs) were 4.8% for free sulfite and 7.8% for total sulfite in the edible part of the shrimp. In the inedible part, CVs were 7.5% and 8.9% for free and total sulfite, respectively. Mean recovery was 87.8% for the edible part and 84.4% for the inedible part of

Methods HCWs from Bellevue Hospital participate in quarterly PPE trainings as part of the Special P

For this study, four types of wood with different densities (spruce and low-, medium-, and high-density fiberboards) were selected from wood widely used as materials in real life, particularly in architectural interiors. For each wood type, flame-retardant paints (water- and oil-based) and flame-retardant liquids were applied two to five times using three flame-retardant treatment methods (roller, brush, and spray) to test the flame-retardant performance. For the four types of wood specimens with different densities, their flame-retardant performances and ignition times were compared and analy

The heat island phenomenon in urban areas has become a problem in the recent years. One measure to overcome this, which has been attracting attention, is painting the cool roof with a paint that has high solar reflectance. However, the solar reflectance has been reported to decrease over time owing to staining from the paint. Our investigations reveal that a self-cleaning paint, based on an acrylic silicone polymer, is effective in maintaining a high solar reflectance and preventing dirt from adhering. These evaluations have been conducted on the cool roof of an actual building by conducting a

The formation of crystalline zinc soaps (zinc salts of fatty acids) in oil paint layers is a common sign of paint degradation. In this study, we have used infrared spectroscopy to systematically identify differences in structure and composition of crystalline zinc soap phases, and report data analysis methods for structure attribution in challenging oil paint samples. Supported by reported crystal structures, it was possible to distinguish two distinct types of zinc soap geometry: a highly symmetrical packing for long-chain saturated soaps (type B) and an alternating packing for zinc soaps wit

A cryptic sexual reproductive cycle in Leishmania has been inferred through population genetic studies revealing the presence of hybrid genotypes in natural isolates, with attempts made to decipher sexual strategies by studying complex chromosomal inheritance patterns. A more informative approach is to study the products of controlled, laboratory-based experiments where known strains or species are crossed in the sand fly vector to generate hybrid progeny. These hybrids can be subsequently studied through high resolution sequencing technologies and software suites such as PAINT that disclose i

The amount of pollution in industries is different and it depends on the type of industry. So to purify and remove pollution, should know accuracy the amount and the type of pollutants. The sewage in the automotive industry includes 2 parts: Paint sludge produced in the automotive industry has the highest pollutant capability because of weighty elements. So, the removal of it in the wrong way will cause damage to the environment.

It is of great importance that each product in industrial production facilities is to be produced in the same quality and standard. Especially in the automotive industry, the painting process needs to be done under certain environmental conditions according to the paint properties used. Therefore, the temperature, humidity and air quality values of the paint booth are very important for a quality painting operation. In this study, adaptive control has been proposed to control of one-zone heating-ventilation system for the paint booths. The system has been modelled by using the Matlab/Simulink.
