Abstract:
AbstractPhilips Angel's Lof der schilder-const (In Praise of Painting, 1642) is one of the few pieces of writing we have as a source of notions on the theory of painting in the Netherlands. Yet it was not intended as an art-theoretical treatise: Angel read the text at a St. Luke's feast as part of the activities that were being undertaken to acquire guild rights for Leiden painters. In order to assess the value of the theoretical notions on which the paper is based, it is therefore necessary to analyse as far as possible the circumstances of its writing. First the Angel family is examined. Orginally from Antwerp, the Angels moved north in the 1590s, probably because of the Eighty Years' War, settling in Middelburg and Leiden. They were fairly prosperous middle-class citizens, mostly schoolteachers, painters and small shopkeepers. Both the Middelburg and Leiden branches produced painters called Philips Angel. The Middelburg Philips, almost certainly identical with a painter called Philips Angel who was active in Haarlem, is known to have produced quite a lot of paitings. Only one small etching by the Leiden Philips has survived; nothing is known of any paintings by him. The Leiden Philips, the author of Lof der schilder-const, had a turbulent career. He joined the painters who pressed for guild rights in Leiden, to which end he held his speech in 1641. As early as 1645, though, he gave up painting and travelled as an employee of the United East-Indian Compary to Indonesia. From there, promoted to the high rank of chief merchant, he was sent to Persia. He was dismissed on grounds of embezzlement, but managed to procure the post of court painter to the Shah. By 1656, however, he was back in Batavia (Jakarta), where he again obtained a number of highly regarded positions. Fired again for mismanagement and defalcation, his end was inglorious. The Lof der Schilder-const shows evident signs of a general tendency among Dutch painters of the mid-seventeenth century to claim a higher status for their profession. The text is duly meant less as a theoretical treatise than as a rhetorical amplificatio of the painter's profession. The author seems to have been reasonably well-read, although by no means scholarly; nor was he very conversant with the Italian art theory of his day. Scrutiny of the text reveals his superficial and undiscerning paraphrases of the few sources at his disposal (mainly Karel van Mander's Schilder-boeck and the Dutch translation of Franciscus Junius' De pictura veterum). Much of his eulogy is a summing-up of the distinguished characteristics a painter ought to have. The remarkable thing is that not one of those characteristics provides specific insight into the professional practise of the Leiden painters around 1641. As far as they are at all relevant to what was being painted in Leiden at that time - take the Leiden 'Precise School' of Gerard Dou's circle -, his remarks provide little more insight than a superficial consideration of the paintings would arouse in any layman.

Abstract:
NAFLD is a leader among chronic liver diseases worldwide. Polymorbidity of such patients requires the appointment of different groups of drugs. The quality of pharmacological correction, which is determined in achieving the desired therapeutic effect and the absence of adverse reactions of the therapy, depends on the functional state of the liver. In diseases of the liver clearance of drugs is reduced, and the period of their half-life increases. Thus, drugs with high hepatic extraction may increase the risk of overdose. In this connection, prior to therapy, laboratory and instrumental control of liver function is necessary to reduce the risk of its drug damage, side effects of pharmacotherapy and prevention of complications.

Abstract:
Tasks of investigation were concluded the characterization of insulin resistence (IR) and hormonal features in patients with prediabetes and influence of diet or metformin on the course of pregnancy and perinatal complications. There were examined 61 womans. The OGTT, definition of insulin levels in plasma and index IR were performed in all patiens. OGTT and index IR were normal in 14 womans (control group I). OGTT was normal but index IR was impared in 33 womans (group IR - II). From this group 22 womans were treated with diet (II A group) and 11 womans treated with metformin (IIB group). OGTT and index IR were abnormal in 14 womans (impared OGTT - III group), they were treated with metformin. Dose of metformin was 1500 mg/d, threatment was continueted for 3-4 manths. Conclusion: Used indexes IR basal and two hour after glucose load were significant in definition of normal and decreased insulin sensitivity (IR). Presence of IR is accompanied by high level of free testosterone in blood without impared secretion of ovarian and suprarenal androgens. There was impared sensitivity of endometrium of secretory stage. The frequency of obstetric and perinatal complications in patients receiving diet not differ from patients treated with metformin. There was only a tendercy to low frequency of threatening miscarriages befor 12 weeks of gestations in paitiens receiving metformin. Development of GDM was observed in 13,1 % of patiens only with presence of IR. The use of metformin in pregravidal stage preserved the development of macrosomia in offsprings of patients with prediabetes.

Abstract:
Background:Takayasu arteritis (TA) is the most prevalent large-vessel vasculitis in children. Patients with TA have a high mobidity and mortality. It remains a therapeutic challenge because corticosteroids monotherapy can rarely cure TAK and the relapse rate is high during GC tapering. Objectives:The aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of tocilizumab (TCZ)in Chinese children with Takayasu arteritis(TAK).Methods:We retrospectively studied 6 TAK children treated with TCZ in our hospital from July 2017 to October 2018. The demographic and clinical data, laboratory examination results and vascular imaging data were collected. Results:Six pediatric patients with critical or refractory TAK treated with TCZ were analyzed, including 3 males and 3 females. The diagnosis age was ranging in age from 2 to 13 years(median age:7 years).Three patients were initially treated with TCZ and Mycophenolate Mofetil(MMF) as the first-line regimen without corticosteroid or with a quite rapid GC taper duration, two of which had lifte-threatening coronary arteries involved and heart failure. The other three paitients were swcithed to TCZ from conventional disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) or other biologics due to being refractory to them and recurrent relapses.Four patients were given TCZ at 4 weeks regular intervals for 10 to 22 months, while two patients withdrew TCZ because of disease deterioration and unbearable abdominal or chest pain after the second dose. After 6 months follow-up,four patients experienced significant clinical and biological improvement with angiographically progression in one patient. A corticosteroid-sparing effect is obvious. Drug-related side effects occur in 1 patients manifesting as a mild elevated liver fuction. Neither neutropenia nor infection was observed. Conclusion:Our study shows a clinical, biological, and radiological response in patients with refractory TAK treated with TCZ.References :[1]Hellmich B, Agueda A, Monti S,et al.2018 Update of the EULAR recommendations for the management of large vessel vasculitis. Abstract:
Abstract Abstract 4887 Background: Peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS) comprises clinically and histopathologically a heterogeneous group of predominantly nodal diseases which do not fit into definition of any other identified subtype of PTCLs. Most of cases are advanced diseases and characterized by aggressive behavior and very poor prognosis. Although several risk factors for response and survival in PTCL-NOS have been reported, little information is available for the incidence and risk factors of relapse after complete response (CR) achievement. Further analyses of the relapse will give valuable information for effective therapeutic strategies for PTCL-NOS. The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence and risk factors of the relapse in PTCL-NOS patients. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 107 patients with PTCL-NOS diagnosed by The 4th edition of the WHO Classification of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues in Hokkaido Hematology Study Group, which includes 30 hematology/oncology or pediatrics departments of 23 institutes, from January 2002 to December 2009. We further investigated the incidence, clinical backgrounds, and risk factors of relapse of the PTCL-NOS patients. Response to treatment was assessed by international workshop to standardize response criteria for non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (Cheson BD et al. J Clin Oncol. 1999). Overall survival (OS) curves were estimated using Kaplan-Meier method and compared by log-rank test. The association between clinical factors and relapse rate was evaluated in univariate analysis by the chi-squared test. Factors independently associated with relapse or OS were identified in multivariate analysis by logistic regression model or Cox proportional hazards model, respectively. Results: The median follow-up of the patients was 24 months (range 1–95). The sample population included 70 males and 37 females with a median age of 67 years (range 9–94). Chemotherapy (ChT) was selected in 90% (96/107) patients as the primary treatment. CHOP-lile regemens were chosen in 91% (86/96) patients as the primary ChT. The estimated 5 year-OS of all the patients was 35%. 48 (52%) patients achieved CR after primary treatment in the evaluable 92 patients, and were futher analyzed. Relapse was occured in 46% (22/48) patients with a median remission duration of 9 months (range 2–51). Multiple or diffuse extranodal relapses were presented in 64% (14/22) patients. Only 5 (24%) paitients achived 2nd CR in the 21 relapsed patients recived salvage ChT. Survaval of patients with relapse was significantly shorter than that without relapse (5 year-estimated OS 32% vs 100%, p<0.0001). Factors of high relapse rates at diagnosis were as follows; central nervous system involvement (100%), extranodal involvement sites>1 (87%), gastrointestinal involvement (80%), bulky disease (67%), bone marrow (BM) involvement (67%), high (H) and high-intermediate (HI) risk groups of International Prognositic Index (IPI) (63%). In addition, relapse rate of the patients showing FDG-uptake by PET after primary treatment was 100%. In univariate analysis, extranodal involvement sites at diagnosis >1 (p=0.022), H and HI risk groups of IPI at diagnosis (p=0.021), FDG-uptake by PET after primary treatment (p=0.043) were identified as risk factors of relapse. Age, clinical stage, B-sympton, perfomance status, BM imvolvement, bulky disease, high LDH level, risk groups of prognositic index for PTCL-U (PIT), and regemen or dose-reduction of primary treatment were not significant indicators for relapse in univariate analysis. In multivariate analysis, extranodal involvement sites at diagnosis >1 was identified as an independent risk factor not only for relapse (relative risk 26.0; 95% CI 1.115–605.9; p=0.043) but also for OS (relative risk 10.8; 95% CI 1.1466–80.13; p=0.02). Conclusions: Almost half of PTCL-NOS patients who achieved CR after primary treatment will relapse and the prognosis is poor. Multiple extranodal involvements at diagnosis will be a predictive factor of relapse and survival. These findings warrant further studies regarding specific treatment approaches for PTCL-NOS patients with multiple extranodal involvements to inhibit the relapse. Disclosures: No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Present study analyzes Natural Conditionants responsible to decay rock paintings in caverns. Two archaeological sites named GO-JA-03 and GO-JA-04 were selected. Chosen areas are situated on a Particular Reserve of Natural Patrimony (RPPN), Inn of Araras (Macaw Inn) on Serranópolis, a city located 450 Km distant from Goiânia, at Southwest of Goiás, Brazil. Both archaeological sites are ancient rock paints representations of Botucatu Rock Formation. First site is a cave with 80 meters length to 64 meters height and 6 to 14 deep known as Grotto of Araras. Second site is a small cave with 10 meters length to 8 meters height named Grotto of Paredão (Great Wall Cave). Serranópolis City area roused researchers and archaeology students due to rock paintings and figures that covers sandstones caves and present ancient human occupation, dated from 11 thousand years B.P. to XX century. These sites are one of the most important and riches from Brazil to study human arrival and hunters populations from Holocene period. These areas are 500 to 900 meters height from sea level and have rock shelters localized in Botucatu Sandstone that represents thick archaeological layers and walls decorated with paintings and figures (SCHMITZ et al, 2004). It analyzes it of the processes of intemperism in the shelters of the Inn of Araras evidences that the physical, chemical factors and biological they must be seen in set, a time that has association of these factors, being able to be treated as factors of intemperismo. The existing forms of physical imtemperism are relief of pressure, crystallization and thermal expansion. The disintegration of the rock is a factor of extreme relevance as for ruspestres paintings, a time that is represented in a film of the easily erodivel rock. The breakings originated for the temperature variation, easily identified in the area of the Inn of Araras, are one of the main factors of comprometimento of rupestres paintings and the stability of the shewlters. This breakings make possible occurrence of movements for gravity, of falls of block (blocks that if they unfasten of the bulk in free fall), falling of blocks (it is characterized for the rotation of the block in fall) and desplacamento (characterize for the unfastening of chips or plates of rocks). The characteristic rections of the chemical intemperism as hidratação, dissolution, hydrolysis, oxidation and acidólise are not treated separately, but yes in set. The pluvial waters, in the context of the shelters can destroy paintings or to mask the original pigmentação from the leaching processes that promote the formation of spots or horozontes with the colors esmaecidas and claras. The biological factors they are enclosed those related the vegetation, such as seaweed, liquens, mosees, bacteria, raízes and plants and also those related the action of animals (insects, bats, birds and rodents). The microbianos processes can provoke the degradation of the rocks, modifying amongst other factors, the solidity and the permeability of the rock. The identified factors of the intemperism in grottos are boarded in biological, chemical and physical as the intensity of occurrence. In function of the tourist potencial of the region, wll have to be developedactions come back toward the protection grottos and rupestrian painting, associating them it the structural conditioning of the area, demanding a boarding to muitidiscipline and specific financial tesources toward the preservating of grottos. The measures of protection to be acquired for the preservation of grottos must be developed by a team to muiltidiscipline, counting on the support of the public power and still of the private sector.

This dissertation focuses on studying the artificer status as described in the treatise On Painting, by Leon Battista Alberti. To do so, it will show how Italian Renaissance was based on Aristotelian philosophy, whose understanding can be sought in the knowledge ratings during Renaissance. That said, it is interesting to analyze Alberti treatise to perceive the arts at the time as part of a philosophy context in a broad sense; and capable of being studied by Philosophy History from an “period eye”, different from Art History looking, in order to think about the artificer position during Italian Renaissance.

In this paper, of which the topic is ‘Maternity in Visual Art – A Study on the Creation of Chinese Ink Paintings’, I aim to seek my personal art style through the multiple aspects of maternity and to present the creation process of my paintings, my research method, and my research findings. To establish both the Chinese and the Western history of paintings, I review the literature on maternity-themed art works, including literature on the Chinese concept of maternity and the aesthetics of maternity-themed paintings. After that, I go on to analyze the manifestation of maternity in both Chinese and Western paintings, and explain how my creation is based on the analysis. To form the theoretical basis on which I created the paintings, I then discuss theories about the following: art works inspired by spiritual things, the ideas of expressing emotions through objects, and the emotional shift from oneself to objects. Next, in Chapter 5, I combine and apply the above theories to the representation and embodiment of maternity in my paintings. Lastly, I analyze the three series which deals with the representation of mother and child, the embodiment of animal maternity, and the simulation of reality, respectively. The purposes of this paper are threefold: First of all, through the images of maternity, I hope to convey to the modern people the value of art and the importance of mothers, the responsibility of being a mother, and family education. Secondly, I want to raise public awareness of the importance of animal and bird protection. Lastly, I expect to bring out the liveliness of my works and establish my own style through my brush and ink.

Conradie, Johannes Hendrik. "Tenebrism in the paiting of Odd Nerdrum from 1983 to 2004." Diss., 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/29578.

Full text
Abstract:
The hypothesis of this dissertation is that contemporary Norwegian painter, Odd Nerdrum (b 1944), uses tenebrism as a mode of beauty and a device to emphasise psychological states of being. Tenebrism is an effective kitsch device to create an impression of realism and so-called truthfulness while pointing to the deepest human sentiments and emotions. I argue that Nerdrum’s tenebrist art questions dark truths about modernity and its effect on the self. The darkness of his tenebrist style amplifies the emotional states of his human characters, and becomes a negative form of transcendence into absence and the power of its nothingness. Nerdrum’s paintings are a visual record of the human capacity to withstand selfdestruction and strive for restoration from the inane. His physical act of painting opens and refines consciousness by slowing down time, for insight and contemplation.

The multimedia art creation “Examining Children’s Corner by Claude Debussy Through Children's Fun and Colored Painting” uses a process of musical creation through games, exploration, aesthetic experiences and thought imagines to find a medium for self-expression. Although youth passes quickly, an individual finds value in what is left from the past. This paper discusses the writer’s process of creativity and self-expression in five parts. The first part discuces the origin of creative ideas; the second part looks at the combination of music and painting; the third part looks at form and content; the fourth part looks at artistic appreciation; and the final part is the conclusion. There are a total of three series of work: "The Sound Is Dancing", "Bouncing Melody ", and "Rhapsody"; with six works in each series. Each work is connected to Children’s Corner. The process of self-expression and reflection leads to an innner peace, bringing relief to unordered thinking and an inhibited spirit.
