Abstract:
The genus Martensopoda gen. nov. is established for two species from South India with distinct and apomorphic features in their copulatory organs. A cymbial spur in the male copulatory organs is reported the first time in the Sparassidae. The embolus’ loop — unique to Heteropodinae — is oriented transversally to the plane of the alveolus. Females exhibit spirally coiled copulatory openings similar to those of Spariolenus, but with a posterior pit at the median septum and with lateral loops of the internal duct system. Martensopoda transversa sp. nov. is described from Cardamon Hills in Kerala

Mayflies are recognized as potential bioindicators of good water quality and they are not widely been studied in Indian subcontinent. So the current paper aims to describe the distribution and trophic categorization of mayflies in connection with stream order, mesohabitats and landscape elements. The study was carried out in 30 streams of Palni and Cardamom hills of Southern India from 2017–2018. A total of 10,075 individuals of mayflies were collected from 30 sites. The species richness among the six landscape elements (evergreen, semi evergreen, forestry plantation, areca nut, scrub and habi

Abstract:
Elaeocarpus blascoi is an endemic tree species reported only from the Palni Hills in the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu. It was described from one tree in 1972, and was thought to be extinct till 1999. We had germinated an unidentified plant species in 1990, and this was later identified in 2001 as E. blascoi upon discovery of a mature tree in Vattakanal shola. We describe here the discovery of the mature tree and two of our plantings that have survived over the past 20 years. Our discovery and plantings have been written about in other publications but with partial information. In this note we l

The species composition of the mid-Early Pleistocene fauna in northwestern Azerbaijan has been elucidated through the analysis of fossil material recovered from the Palan-Tyukan site. This research also included a review of the relevant literature. The paleontological material has been fossilized to a similar extent, indicating similar burial conditions. Animal bones at the site were accumulated during a single sedimentation cycle in sediments of what was once a shallow, heavily silted body of water with slow-flowing or standing water. We have identified 16 species of large mammals, whose pres
