Between the 1880s and the 1920s, advertising proved fundamental to art and literature reviews since it fostered a new link between visual and consumerist culture. This article is based on fin de siècle and avant-garde magazines read in dialogue. It samples French and Belgian magazines illustrating innovations to 1880s periodicals and 1920s modernist magazines. The paper highlights the use of visual techniques in advertisements (page design, typography, etc.) that strengthen aesthetic and political stances. Advertising rhetoric masks aesthetic manifestos but also social and political agenda, revealed by visual displays of text. Publicity is also an important medium for poetic experimentation, embedded in ordinary advertising design already in the 1890s. Its subversive use informs new means of artistic expression, considered avant-garde innovations (collage, cadavre exquis, or typographic combinations). Advertising later represents new modernist stances within avant-garde magazines. Surrealism and Dada exploited publicity to promote their revolutionary aesthetic. In the 1920s, advertising being increasingly professionalized, specific designers used new visual means, strengthened artistic exchanges, and gradually erased the division between art and commercial culture in magazines. Thus modernism became part of a visual culture resonant with consumer commodities. Advertising ultimately exemplifies an interesting change in periodicals’ patterns, across literature and art reviews to the mainstream press, through posters, and decorative or architectural designs.

The traveling exhibition Film und Foto, inaugurated in 1929 by the famous German Werkbund association, stands as a critical landmark in the exhibition of modernist photography and film. Yet walking through its inaugural venue, in Stuttgart, was as much like flipping through an instructional photo essay as navigating an exhibition space. The first of the show's thirteen rooms, for example, offered a large number of prints that recapitulated the history of photography, or more specifically the history of its practical use. Displayed on sleek scaffolds that efficiently expanded the available exhibition surface, these prints hung in what may best be described as modernist salon style meets the printed page. A lower register seems strung near thigh level while a second row pushed toward the ceiling. The left-page/right-page and vertical/horizontal dialogues this arrangement afforded encouraged viewers to compare photographs taken from the spheres of science and industry to avant-garde prints inspired by the former. Above this series of exchanges ran a prominent sans-serif caption, a punning query that framed the entire show: “Where is photography's development headed?”

A novel detailed analysis of a page from Chukokkala , Korney Chukovsky's handwritten miscellany with drawings by Yuri Annenkov, dated March 1923, is given. Involvement of archival sources makes up the history of the drawing creation. It turns out that Annenkov worked at the page of the miscellany and the portrait of Leo Trotsky at the same time. The analysis of the stylistic features of the drawing reconstructs the elements of the literary life of the 1920s. The study of the depicted persons clarifies the circle of friends and associates of prominent cultural figures of the first post-revolutionary decade. The article provides little-known biographical information about the characters depicted in the drawing. It specifies how Annenkov met Gorky's closest associate, the prominent public figure Albert Pinkevich. The author highlights little-known facts of friendship of A. Pinkevich, Boris Pilnyak, a Soviet writer, and the avant-garde artist Boris Shaposhnikov. The history of the creation of graphic portraits of Soviet writers made by Annenkov is considered. In conclusion, the page of the handwritten miscellany, and Chukokkala as a whole, are presented as a unique monument that captures the living passage of time.

“Contact poem” as a hidden current of modern poetryThe aim of this text is to indicate possible senses of development of some of the ideas exposed previously in my studies on the literary poetry of the Catalan artist and writer Joan Brossa. In particular, I refer to the concept of “contact poemˮ interpreted in terms of a semiological analogy of photography that we consider as a modern technique and art par excellence, being probably the most radical and influential invention for culture of the last two centuries. In this sense, it is interesting to see if the consequences of the predominance of visual codes for the development of modern poetry can rather be perceived as a norm beyond the Brossian experiments of an avant-garde nature. Following a theoretical approach based on the ideas of V. Flusser and A. Rouillé, some of Brossaʼs texts are analysed from the perspective of visualisation techniques and linked to another literary example, the novel Pale Fire by V. Nabokov.

La seguente tesi nasce dall’esigenza di ottimizzare, da un punto di vista acustico e prestazionale, un ventilatore centrifugo preesistente in azienda. Nei primi tre capitoli si è analizzato il problema da un punto di vista teorico, mentre nel terzo e quarto
capitolo da un punto di vista computazionale sfruttando tecniche CFD.
Nel primo capitolo è stata fatta una trattazione generale dei ventilatori centrifughi, concentrandosi sul tipo di problematiche a cui questi vanno incontro.
Nel secondo capitolo è stata presentata la teoria che sta alla base di una rilevazione sperimentale e di un’analisi acustica. Unitamente a ciò sono stati riportati alcuni articoli che mostrano tecniche di ottimizzazione acustica in ventilatori centrifughi.
Nel terzo capitolo è stata riassunta la teoria alla base della fluidodinamica e di uno studio fluidodinamico.
Nel quarto capitolo viene spiegato come è stato creato il modello fluidodinamico. Si è optato per un’analisi del problema in stato stazionario, sfruttando il Moving Reference Frame, e considerando l’aria come incomprimibile, visto il ridotto numero di Mach. L’analisi acustica è stata effettuata nel post-processing sfruttando il modello di Proudman. Infine è stata dimostrata la correlazione che intercorre tra i tre punti della curva resistente del ventilatore di funzionamento reale, permettendo di estendere i risultati ricavati dalla analisi di uno di questi agli altri due.
Nel quinto capitolo è stata effettuata un’analisi dei risultati ottenuti dalle simulazioni fluidodinamiche e sono state proposte diverse modifiche della geometria. La modifica scelta ha visto un miglioramento delle prestazioni e una minore rumorosità.
Infine sono state proposte nelle conclusioni ulteriori possibili strade da percorre per un’indagine e ottimizzazione del ventilatore più accurata.

This study is an investigation of the role of the "little magazine" flriAZ, published in the early 1960s in Greece, as well as the work of its contributors. By experimenting with the use or abuse, expansion or minimisation of literary language, the group of flriAZ contributed to the constitution of the Greek 1960s and offered an alternative paradigm of a peripheral Western neo-avant-garde. The first chapter offers a brief account of the political and cultural background to the magazine's publication. The second chapter explores the tradition of the avant-garde "little magazines", the developments of Greek and international alternative press in the 1960s and the features of flaAz as a "little magazine". The third chapter reviews the developments of international and Greek I modernism and the avant-garde and examines the debates on literary modernity in the Greek criticism of the 1960s. The fourth chapter considers the work of Manto Aravantinou, Nikos Stangos and Kostas Tachtsis, three contributors of IlaAz whose literature introduced innovative oral and textual strategies. Chapter five explores the ways Alexandros Schinas views language and literature in his meta- fictional literary work. It examines his experimental techniques. analyses his "hyperlexist" contribution to IlaAz and his views on the language question. Finally, the sixth chapter explores the background of the magazine's "anti-realist generation". It examines their work within the context of international avantgarde and analyses their contributions to the reformation of the literary and cultural attitude during the 1960s.

Les essais en environnement libre et en soufflerie ont été effectués pour étudier la performance propulsive et la déformation de pales de référence et de pales souples. La poussée et le couple ont été évalués par deux méthodes: une mesure directe par balance et une estimation indirecte par bilan de quantité de mouvement, les deux méthodes ayant leurs avantages et limitations respectifs. La méthode indirecte s’est construite sur l’acquisition de champs de vitesse obtenus par PIV et s’appuie sur une estimation de la pression par mise en œuvre de l’équation de Poisson. En vol stationnaire, les pales flexibles ne peuvent pas aider à l’amélioration du rendement en mode rotor (FM), à chargement faible, puisque la distribution de vrillage est sans doute assez éloignée de l’optimal de vol stationnaire. En vol avancé, le rendement propulsif des pales flexibles est la plupart du temps plus élevé que l’hélice rigide de référence en raison de la torsion bénéfique généré en rotation. Dans le cas des pales flexibles, la vitesse axiale se trouve être inférieure au cas rigide, à même station aval; ceci correspondant à la la déformation de vrillage négatif. Pour les deux pales, la différence de poussée entre celle déduite du champ PIV test 2et celle obtenue avec la balance est plus grande que la différence entre les valeurs déduites du champ PIV test 1 et de la mesure directe. La technique de mesure laser pour les déplacements(LDS) a été utilisée pour mesurer la déformation stationnaire des pales lors de leur rotation. Par analyse du nuage de points mesurés par la LDS, la flexion et la torsion de la lame en rotation ont été identifiées à l’aide des régressions multiplesThe wind tunnel tests were conducted to explore the performance difference caused by the potential twist deformation between baseline blades and flexible blades. The balance was built in SaBre wind tunnel for measuring the thrust and torque of blades. The BEMT predictions of blades with varied twist were also performed in hover and forward flight, respectively. In hover,flexible blades cannot help in improving the FM at light disk loading since the twist generated on flexible blades is probably beyond the ideal hover twist. In forward flight, the propulsive efficiency η of flexible blades is mostly higher than baseline blades due to the beneficial twist generated in rotation. A Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) approach of loads determination was developed based on control volume method to obtain thrust and torque of small-scale proprotor,especially for off-optimum conditions. The pressure Poisson equation was implemented for the pressure estimation based on the PIV velocity data. The axial velocity of flexible blades is found to be lower than baseline blades on the same station at downstream. This corresponds to the lower inflow ratio distribution along flexible blade, which results from the negative twist deformation. For both baseline blades and flexible blades, the thrust differences between PIV test 2 and balance are larger when compared to the differences between PIV test 1 based on nearfield and balance. The Laser Displacement Sensor (LDS) technique was employed for measuring the stationary deformation of rotating flexible blades. By obtaining the LDS point cloud, the bending and torsion of the rotating blade were identified using the multiple regressions

L'analyse des mécanismes de l'accrétion tectonique de sédiments a été entreprise le long de la marge convergente Europe-Afrique, sur le prisme d'accrétion sicilien, et à l'aide de modélisations expérimentales : 1) le prisme sicilien correspond à l'écaillage, du Néogène à l'actuel, de différents domaines paléogéographiques des marges africaine et européenne dans un contexte de subduction-collision entre ces deux plaques. Le domaine centro-silicien (ou de Caltanissetta) est le domaine le plus récent accrété au front du prisme. L'imbrication d'un ensemble d'écailles très pelliculaires à vergence sud résulte d'événements tectoniques Pliocène à Pléistocène inférieur. La dispersion des orientations structurales révèle le rôle des structures obliques à la direction de raccourcissement principale (ns). La présence de duplex dans la partie est du domaine implique l'existence de deux niveaux de décollement superposés, partageant le domaine frontal en une unité tectonique inferieure et une unité tectonique supérieure. Les écailles de l'unité tectonique supérieure reposent, le plus souvent, sur une formation argileuse de type mélangé (le mélange varicolore) qui est interprété comme le niveau de décollement intermédiaire. Le décollement profond n'est pas visible à l'affleurement. Le mélangé varicolore présente des indices de déformation dans un milieu encore riche en fluide : 1) diapirisme argileux au cœur des anticlinaux frontaux et 2) nombreuses traces de cristallisations syntectoniques. A l'échelle du domaine frontal du prisme, la répartition des minéralisations, essentiellement au niveau des zones de faille, suggère des circulations de fluides localisées pendant la phase de mise en place des écailles. A partir de l'analyse des inclusions fluides piégées dans ces cristallisations (quartz et calcite) nous avons tenté de caractériser la nature et de reconstituer l'histoire p/t de ces circulations de fluides. Au niveau des chevauchements de base des duplex (connectes au décollement profond) sont présents des fluides aqueux à faible salinité ainsi que des hydrocarbures. Les mesures thermiques (microthermométrie et état de maturation de la matière organique) indiquent des températures de piégeage élevées (>200c), qui sont en déséquilibre par rapport au paléo-gradient régional et par rapport à l'état de recristallisation de la matrice argileuse encaissante. Ceci suggère des advections de fluides d'origine profonde le long du décollement basal (8 à 10 km) en régime transitoire ; 2) l'analyse de la géométrie et de la cinématique des bassins avant-arc et des zones de transfert de la déformation a été réalisée à partir de modèles expérimentaux en sable. Des modèles couplant sédimentation et raccourcissement ont permis de tester l'influence de la friction le long du décollement sur le développement des bassins avant-arc. Lors du raccourcissement du modèle, un équilibre mécanique s'établit entre deux failles principales : le chevauchement frontal et le rétrochevauchement majeur qui limite le bassin avant-arc. La propagation de la déformation au front ou dans la partie arrière du prisme est enregistrée par l'épaisseur des séquences sédimentaires déposées dans le bassin avant-arc à chaque étape de raccourcissement. Nous avons testé l'influence de différents dispositifs sur la formation et l'évolution des zones de transfert de la déformation. Les variations de l'épaisseur sédimentaire dans l'avant-pays, le décalage horizontal de la butée, une géométrie coudée de la butée ou une variation latérale de la friction le long du décollement entrainent la formation d'une zone de transfert. Ces zones sont caractérisées par des propagations alternées ou synchrones des chevauchements. Leur structure 3d montre de forte courbure des chevauchements et la formation de rampes obliques a la direction de raccourcissement

Gilles Le Muisit, abbé au milieu du XIVème siècle du couvent de Saint-Martin de Tournai, a rassemblé entre 1349 et 1352, alors qu'il était aveugle, l'ensemble de son oeuvre en français dans un énorme volume réunissant des pièces en octosyllabes, quatrains d'alexandrins et prose. Le tout forme une oeuvre littéraire inclassable, mélange de chronique, d'entreprise didactique et de poésie, posant beaucoup de problèmes de compréhension littérale. Il existe une édition ancienne de ce texte (Joseph Kervyn de Lettenhove, Louvain, 1882) qui souffre de nombreuses erreurs de transcription et propose un texte brut, sans balisage interne ni structure, accompagné d'un glossaire lacunaire et fautif. Notre travail tente d'établir une seconde édition répondant aux exigences scientifiques actuelles et permettant l'accès à cette oeuvre d'un intérêt certain autant sur le plan littéraire que linguistique, en particulier lexicographique ; la langue de Gilles Le Muisit se signale par sa forte couleur régionale (picard, wallon) et une richesse de vocabulaire remarquable, le texte de son "Registre" présentant beaucoup de mots peu ou pas attestés avant 1350. L'édition se limite pour l'instant aux neuf premiers chapitres du texte ; la transcription s'accompagne d'une introduction (présentation de l'auteur et du manuscrit, étude linguistique, commentaire littéraire), d'un ensemble de notes critiques (tentatives d'élucidation des sources et références, remarques linguistiques et littéraires ponctuelles, leçons rejetées du manuscrit ou de l'édition ancienne), d'un important glossaire et d'un index des noms propres. Nous publions pour la première fois en annexes les pièces finales du "Registre"

This chapter discusses Joanna Lee’s Your Little Voice (2001). This is an early but typical example of Lee’s work. Full of innovative quirks and wild contrasts in character, it is a perfect choice for singers wishing to try ‘avant-garde’ repertoire for the first time. They will surely revel in the experience, and not find it as daunting as feared. A tuning fork will be helpful at the start, and later also if needed to recall pitches after instances of speaking or whispering. A full-page glossary makes everything clear, but still leaves room for personal interpretative input. Verbal descriptions for the myriad vocal styles requested are encapsulated acutely. Rhythms are also notated strictly, with traditional time signatures; indeed, maintaining momentum and a discernible pulse is a distinctive and important aspect.

Chapter 6 examines the ways in which the English publisher Coracle has utilized the ‘alternative space’ of the book and other printed platforms to critically rethink representations of place and space. Coracle’s approach to the question of landscape is shown to have anticipated recent developments in the field of cultural geography regarding ‘non-representational theory’ and its emphasis on the ‘small stories’ of landscape. Chapter 6 examines how a number of poets and artists associated with Coracle (Erica Van Horn, Simon Cutts, Stephen Duncalf, Colin Sackett, Richard Long) have significantly paralleled many of these non-representational approaches to landscape and revised the grand, heroic values traditionally attributed landscape representations by engaging the modest means of small press publications. It is argued that the space of the allotment is of particular significance for Coracle as an ‘unofficial’ landscape analogous to Coracle’s own emphasis on co-operative work, community, and creative singularity. The chapter concludes by discussing Richard Long’s installation Stone Field in the semi-refurbished space of Renshaw Hall in Liverpool. Despite its immense size, chapter 6 demonstrates how Long’s installation reiterates the qualities associated with the ‘alternative spaces’ of small press publishing and its broader possibilities on and off the page.

It examines how dramatist and interactive media artist Maureen Thomas and 3D media artist and conservator Marianne Selsjord deploy creative digital technologies to transpose, transform, and transcend pre-page arts and crafts for the digital era, making fresh work for new audiences. Nel presente articolo si tratta dell’allestimento di Così è (se vi pare) di Pirandello che ebbe un successo notevole sul palcoscenico del Teatr Powszechny a Łódź nel 1989. Questa rappresentazione fu importante non solo per la carriera del regista, Adam Hanuszkiewicz, ma anche per la ricezione della produzione pirandelliana di cui le vicende non furono fino ad allora particolarmente favorevoli. Essa propose nuove possibilità interpretative fin qui celate dell’opera dell’autore italiano. Di fatti, oltre a trasgredire le convenzioni sceniche, secondo alcuni ormai desuete, il Siciliano mise avanti una nuova drammaturgia frammentaria e apparentemente incompiuta che si concentra piuttosto sulla “vita” che sull’“azione prettamente agonistica”. Esponendo un nuovo paradigma del “dramma-della-vita” che sta in netta oposizione al “dramma-nella-vita”, ossia “dramma assoluto”, egli diede vita alla drammaturgia moderna e contemporanea. Aderendo all’ottica teatrale e drammatica di Pirandello, Hanuszkiewicz tende dunque a liberare l’autore di Enrico IV dalle tradizionali interpretazioni che si focalizzavano essenzialmente sul suo sistema chiamato “pirandellismo” oppure sul presunto “esistenzialismo”. Il regista polacco non esitò ad adottare il dramma ai tempi moderni, senza però intaccare i presupposti “ideologici” dell’opera: Hanuszkiewicz la rilesse secondo la chiave contemporanea ed anche profondamente personale, scoperchiandone il suo carattere sempre attuale nonché universale che poteva essere accolto con comprensione e ammirazione non solamente in Italia. L’articolo ripercorre quindi la fortuna dello spettacolo che, al pari dei Giganti della montagna, messo in scena da Izabella Cywińska (1974), aprì una nuova strada alla riscoperta dell’opera dello scrittore agrigentino.

Modification of the composition of grain storage proteins is an intensively developing area of plant biotechnology, which is of particular importance for sorghum – high-yielding drought tolerant crop. Compared to other cereals, the majority of sorghum cultivars and hybrids are characterized by reduced nutritional value that is caused by a low content of essential amino acids in the seed storage proteins (kafirins), and resistance of kafirins to protease digestion. RNA interference (RNAi) by suppressing synthesis of individual kafirin subclasses may be an effective approach to solve this problem. In this chapter, we review published reports on RNAi silencing of the kafirin-encoding genes. In addition, we present new experimental data on phenotypic effects of RNAi-silencing of γ-KAFIRIN-1 gene in sorghum cv. Avans. To obtain RNAi mutants with γ-KAFIRIN-1 gene silencing we used Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation. Transgenic kernels had modified endosperm type with reduced vitreous layer and significantly improved in vitro protein digestibility (93% vs. 57%, according to the densitometry of SDS-PAGE patterns). SDS-PAGE of transgenic kernels showed lowered level of kafirins and appearance of globulin proteins, which were not observed in the original cultivar. For the first time, the cases of instability of inserted genetic construct were identified: elimination of ubi1-intron that is a constituent part of the genetic construct for RNAi silencing, or nos-promotor governing expression of the marker gene (bar) (in the RNAi mutants of cv. Zheltozernoe 10). The research findings presented in this chapter provide strong evidence that RNA interference can be used for improvement of the nutritional properties of sorghum grain.

Les personnages de l’écrivain algérien Rachid Boudjedra ne prennent pas la mer. Dans ses romans, la mer est citée en tant que frontière ; les fleuves sont des tombeaux à ciel ouvert où s’entassent les cadavres des résistants au colonisateur. Mais, La Macération, roman publié en 1984, met en scène un univers aquatique où écrire est faire acte de désir, où l’écriture est à la fois sexuelle et mystique car l’eau est encre et l’encre féconde la page blanche comme l’eau féconde la terre et l’homme féconde la femme. Parle avec elle : Marco est dans une chambre d’hôpital, il y veille Lydia qui semble dormir pour ne plus se réveiller. Plan rapproché, zoom sur les yeux grand ouverts de Marco. Ce dernier fait un rêve, où l’amante est vivante. Mais surtout, dans ce rêve, il y a un homme : beau et sculptural qui traverse une piscine à la nage. Pourquoi ce rêve ? Comment s’est fait le passage entre les gouttes du médicament se déversant dans le corps de « la belle endormie » à cette eau belle, bleue et translucide ? Comment Lydia a-t-elle laissé la place à cet homme ? Et qui est-il d’ailleurs ? Que fait-il dans ce film ? Scène seconde : Marco laisse couler ses larmes en regardant Pina Bausch se débattre sur scène contre des chaises et des murs. Marco pleure l’absente et Benigno regarde, comme fasciné, ces larmes viriles. Le choix de ces deux récits découle, entre autres, d’une ressemblance thématique – le désir d’un homme pour une femme qui passe ou non par la parole. La evolución de los aditivos para hormigón ha permitido reducir la huella de CO2 del hormigón gracias a la optimización de la cantidad y del tipo de cemento. La cumbre de esta evolución tecnológica se alcanzó con los aditivos superplastificantes basados en policarboxilatos.Los límites de utilización de estos aditivos, a diferencia de las tecnologías predecesoras, ya no se stablece por una propiedad o comportamiento del propio aditivo (por ejemplo, por causar retraso de fraguado u ocluir aire), sinó que está condicionado por aspectos del propio hormigón.En particular, el uso de los aditivos basados en PCE en hormigones convencionales está limitado por el impacto provocado sobre la viscosidad del hormigón, impidiendo incrementar el grado de optimización de los hormigones.Los aditivos superplastificantes de última generación basados en la tecnología de los polímeros PAE representa el último avance de la química para hormigón. Esta tecnología permite la producción de hormigones de reología mejorada con baja viscosiad. De este modo, con esta tecnología es posible sobrepasar los límites de uso identificados con los aditivos basados en PCE, permitiendo la posibilidad de optimizar el coste de los hormigones y aportando mayores reducciones de la huella de CO2 para aportar sostenibilidad en el sector de la construcción.En la ponencia se presentarán los conceptos y parámetros de la composición del hormigón que justifican los problemas de viscosidad cuando se trabaja con cantidades bajas de cemento y de agua, con especial émfasis sobre el impacto provocado por las variaciones de la relación volumétrica agua/finos. Notre travail s’articule autour du thème de l’eau dans Pierre et Jean et Mont-Oriol de Guy de Maupassant. En effet, ces deux œuvres romanesques regorgent d’eau dans toutes ses formes. Dans Pierre et Jean, le lexique de la mer est fort abondant. Le thème de la mer revient sans cesse dans le roman. Il y apparaît en ouverture et en conclusion, évoquant longuement les bateaux et la pêche. Dans Mont-Oriol, l’élément aquatique détermine son espace romanesque et constitue à lui seul le cadre du roman. Il est présent sous plusieurs aspects : eau, source, lac, station, ruisseau. Les images de l’eau dans ces deux œuvres romanesques reflètent l’amour de l’auteur normand pour cet élément naturel. Afin d’analyser ce jaillissement du lexique de l’eau dans ces deux œuvres, nous exploiterons la fonction Contexte et celle du vocabulaire spécifique du logiciel Hyperbase, un logiciel d'exploitation statistique documentaire et de traitement quantitatif des grands corpus, élaboré par Étienne Brunet. En effet, Notre démarche pour le traitement de notre corpus par ce logiciel avait abouti à une base de données que nous avons appelée MAUPASSA.EXE. Dans la présentation du vocabulaire spécifique de chaque œuvre, il s’agit de signaler les unités dont la fréquence manifeste un excédent ou un déficit significatif. Pour déterminer le vocabulaire spécifique d’un corpus, le logiciel Hyperbase calcule l’écart réduit de chaque forme dans chacune des parties du corpus. La mise en œuvre du bouton CONTEXTE, permet de voir l’occurrence que l’on cherche dans le contexte du paragraphe. Si l’on clique sur l’un des passages affichés, on a la possibilité de voir la page entière où le mot apparaît. Nous allons donc nous baser sur cette fonction qui fait gagner aux chercheurs un temps considérable en vue de déterminer le sens que Maupassant donne à l’eau dans toutes ses formes.
