The first part of the thesis describes studies in iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation. The homoaldol reaction is one of the most powerful methods for the construction of C–C bonds as well as 1,4-oxygenated compounds yet this reaction remains in challenging tasks due to the instability of homoenolates which spontaneously cyclize to the cyclopropanolate. A regioselective catalytic homoaldol equivalent reaction of 3-bromo vinyl acetate with aldehydes under Cr(III)-Mn(0) redox condition was developed. The regioselectivity of these reactions was examined by employing different length of carbon chains. Reactions of aryl iodides with alkynals in the presence of catalytic amount of Pd(OCOCF3)2 in methanol at room temperature provided trisubstituted isomers in 25-37% yields. On the other hand, treatment of aryl iodides with alkynals using Pd(OCOCF3)2 as a catalyst in acetontrile at 80℃ afforded the cylization enone products in 18-29% yields.

A one-pot reaction for the synthesis of unsymmetrical diarylacetylenes have also been carried out by introducing two different aryl iodides.
