Abstract:
From 1999 to 2001 I was head of administrative communication in a local council in Denmark. There I was responsible for authoring and publishing service information pamphlets. I never had any complaints from the citizens who were supposed to read the pamphlets. And that made me worried. So worried that I have now spent a year analysing not only the pamphlets, but also their reception in the target population. In this article I shall make a genre analysis of the service information pamphlet and I shall compare the results of the genre analysis with the basic results of the reception analysis.

Abstract:
Abstract This article, based on French archives and political pamphlets, challenges the traditional assumption that political anglophilia in France was limited to intellectual or opposition circles. During the Seven Years’ War, French official propaganda changed its strategy. Ministerial writers gave information on British politics by publishing translations of English pamphlets or newspapers. An official model even appeared at the end of the war, praising British patriotism. However, during the last decades of the ancien re??gime, radicalism tarnished England's reputation, foreshadowing the failure in 1789 of a political solution inspired by the English.

Abstract:
During World War II, publishing was an important element of the war effort for both the Allies and the Axis powers. Wartime propaganda and cultural diplomacy relied primarily on books, magazines and the daily press. The exiled governments in London, including the Polish government, undertook a major effort to translate, publish and promote numerous books and pamphlets that would appeal to British readers and thereby help to sway public opinion. This paper focuses on translation as an important aspect of wartime publishing that has not yet received much scholarly attention. It offers a contribution to research into the role and place of translations in wartime publishing by discussing the Polish government-in-exile's translation and publishing campaign. Drawing on various archival sources, it demonstrates that publishing translations was an important part of wartime cultural diplomacy and led to the development of extensive state-private networks that brought together exiled governments and British publishers. By analysing this material in a broad cultural context, the paper highlights the historical, ideological and political relevance of translation studies research to wartime publishing and censorship.

Abstract:
One aspect that may contribute to the limited availability of donor organs is a lack of knowledge about the legalities of organ donation (OD). Using a randomized controlled trial (RCT), this study aims to identify the effect of health education programs on the level of knowledge and attitudes towards organ donation among nursing students. There were no significant differences in the knowledge and attitude level for both groups. However, the pamphlet group shows a positive correlation between the level of knowledge and attitude. The study revealed that pamphlets and videos have similar results in terms of educating OD. Keywords: Organ donation, health education, knowledge, attitude. eISSN: 2398-4287 © 2022. The Authors. Abstract:
In the conditions of a rapid increase in the amount of information, the need for its constant updating and the organization of operational access to significant data sets, the problem of orientation in the general flow of domestic printed products is becoming actualized. A significant and socially significant indicator of the dynamics of book publishing in Ukraine is the "Chronicle of Books" index, which contains comprehensive bibliographic information on books and pamphlets from all fields of knowledge. In the proposed study, a bibliometric analysis of the thematic distribution of publications in the "Chronicle of Books" database for 2022, which contains 13 590 bibliographic records according to classes and sections of the UDC, was carried out. The performed bibliometric analysis makes it possible to outline modern development trends and thematic focus of the domestic book publishing industry, science and culture.

Abstract:
Throughout the nineteenth century, European booksellers and publishers, mostly from France, England, Germany and Spain, produced textual materials in Europe and introduced them into Mexico and other Latin American countries. These transatlantic interchanges unfolded against the backdrop of the emergence of the international legal system to protect translation rights and required the involvement of a complex network of agents who carried with them publishing, translating and negotiating practices, in addition to books, pamphlets, prints and other goods. Tracing the trajectories of translated books and the socio-cultural, economic and legal forces shaping them, this article examines the legal battle over the translation and publishing rights of Les Leçons de chimie élémentaire, a chemistry book authored by Jean Girardin and translated and published in Spanish by Jean-Frédéric Rosa. Drawing on a socio-historical approach to translation, I argue that the arguments presented by both parties are indicative of the uncertainty surrounding the legal status of translated texts and of the different values then attributed to translation.

Abstract:
This essay explores the role of art periodicals in art worlds past and present. It examines the histories of Artforum and October within the context of the North American art world of the 1960s and 1970, and contextualizes these publications within a larger field of publishing practices, including self-published Salon pamphlets, little magazines, and artists' periodicals. It explores how the distribution form of the periodical affects the politics of art criticism, and considers how art magazines have served as sites of critical publicity, mediating publics and counterpublics within the art world. It also reflects on the role of magazines and newer online media in the contemporary, globalized art world.

Abstract:
The article discusses the views of natural medicine advocates regarding smallpox vaccination, based on texts in the popular Polish natural cure magazine ‘Przewodnik Zdrowia’ (‘Health Guide’), published in Berlin in 1895–1914. The article also presents theses and opinions on vaccination in one of the pamphlets issued by the ‘Przewodnik Zdrowia’ publishing house. Advocates of naturopathy in many European countries and the United States formed the backbone of the 19th-century anti-vaccination movement, and strongly opposed vaccination, appealing primarily to health and legal arguments. The article sketches the main lines of argumentation against vaccination, formulated by proponents of naturopathic treatment in the Polish journal, in the context of antivaccination views and movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Abstract:
The bureaucracy of modern publishing presented the biggest obstacles to the publication of books during the Siege of Paris. Readers demanded books, pamphlets, and manifestos about their present situation as quickly as possible. Modernity couldn’t keep up. To satisfy this demand, smaller, upstart printers began producing books in basements, courtyards, and living rooms, side-stepping the complicated publishing practices inherent to the modern publishing industry. The Société des gens de lettres, an author-advocacy group, found itself struggling against the very networks of publishers, printers, editors, agents and authors that made publishing so profitable. While the organization did offer literary events in Paris during the Siege, it also threatened to sue newspapers that published unattributed poetry or other literary texts and fought for author’s rights at a moment when there was little to no recourse for such legal action. Disrupting the very networks that made literature such good business, the Siege effectively threw the industry back a hundred years.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the student poets of Oxford and Cambridge in the 1950s who rose to prominence in the early 1960s. The works of these student poets, among them A. Alvarez, Alan Brownjohn, Jenny Joseph, J. E. M. [Edward] Lucie-Smith, George Macbeth, and Anthony Thwaite, were published in Oxford Poetry, the most significant poetry publishing venture in Oxford or Cambridge in the 1950s. Oxford Poetry was established in 1952 by Michael Shanks, then President of the Oxford University Poetry Society, who linked up with the painter and printer Oscar Mellor. The pamphlets the press turned out were slim — five or six poems — but they were well produced, and they were keenly read, as was Oxford Poetry.

Abstract:
Chapter 5 explores—from the direction of non-mainstream poetics—the politics of embodiment and reception in Denise Riley’s poetry. Its focus is her late-twentieth-century avant-garde pamphlets and small press publications. What is at stake in Riley’s poetic emphasis on the punctured, uncertain, and wounded textual-corporeal body? Why do her poems invite readers to witness the traces of their physical making/printing? The chapter examines what Riley’s use of unmarked space can teach readers about their role in the politics of production and reception. It explores how sparse type energizes gaps between words (giving them a fugitive figuration) and draws attention to the conflict involved in acts of listening and receiving, inking and uttering. The chapter considers whether such effects are compromised when larger, more commercial houses republish the works.

Abstract:
Tracking fugitive dynamics into the twenty-first century, this chapter probes Paul Muldoon’s exploration of metamorphosing poetic and corporeal forms. It focuses on the ventriloquizing of artworks, artists, and nonhuman agents (animals, plants, bodies, objects, waste products). It offers particular attention to: a) Muldoon’s limited edition pamphlets and literary-artistic collaborations containing photographs, drawings, and paintings. One example is Plan B, the cover of which shows a statue of Apollo wrapped in polythene. The poems within depose the colonizing order Apollo’s torso represents, engaging in refractions of aesthetic and literary inheritance. b) the voice of human and nonhuman bodies, especially Muldoon’s mythological preoccupation with half-animal forms, degenerating waste products, and digesting/gustatory metaphors for the lyric work. Each destabilizes fixed and perfected forms, often in favour of organic mutability and resonance.

Abstract:
“The Making of a London Author” will expand further on Joyce’s interactions with Cambridge-based institutions such as C. K. Ogden’s Orthological Institute and London-based ones, including the publisher Faber and Faber and Eliot’s work there. Scholarship has largely overlooked Eliot’s ambitious plans for the international availability of Joyce’s work through London: the promotion of the Anna Livia Plurabelle record, the Anna Livia Plurabelle and Haveth Childers Everywhere pamphlets, and the contract for the long-pending Finnegans Wake. The chapter will delineate Joyce’s close collaborations with Ogden and Eliot to promote his work through divergent media alongside Herbert Hughes’ presentation of the Anna Livia Plurabelle record in London’s Daily Telegraph newspaper. The impact of such strategies on other publishing outlets including the Times newspaper will also be assessed.

Abstract:
This chapter considers how Dutch authorities used printed placards and pamphlets to target, attack and defeat their domestic political opponents. While official print is often regarded as a means of communication between the authorities and their citizens, this chapter demonstrates that the authorities regularly invited public participation in domestic politics by publishing their nominally secret letters and memoranda, supposedly destined only for the eyes of those in the regent class. It focusses mostly on a case study, that of the lengthy political conflict between the magistrates of Groningen and the Council of Ommelanden, the two constituent parts of the States of Groningen. It demonstrates the importance of public communication to the conflict itself, but also to the national attention paid by other regents to the dispute, which became a major obstacle to federal policy making.

Abstract:
Students are a necessary part of the architecture profession. Their training and preparation have long been key to maintaining the business and culture of architecture, and in doing so perpetuating traditional territories that control the institutionalisation of a profession. Students have also created their own associations, often mirroring, and at the instigation of, their parent organizations. More often than not though, in addition to acting as social binders and playing out the role of disciplinary ‘club’, these associations have developed a critical voice, urging change and injecting critique: in short, setting the basis for the framing of a local discourse. Using its publications as primary source material, this paper explores the critical activities of the Victorian Architectural Students Society (VASS), which developed under the auspices of the Royal Victorian Institute of Architects (RVIA). VASS published its annual from 1908, which evolved by 1932 to become Lines and, then additionally in 1939, students Robin Boyd and Roy Simpson expanded VASS’s publishing remit, producing the oft-controversial fold-away pamphlet Smudges that infamously gave ‘blots’ and ‘bouquets’ to new buildings. In 1947, VASS published Victorian Modern, Australia’s first polemical history of modern architecture and in 1952, it was the first publisher of the influential journal, Architecture and Arts. This paper examines the shifting ambitions of VASS, its chief protagonists, the role of graphics and the deft blending of the social, satirical and the critical that eventually framed and shaped Victoria’s architecture culture after World War II.
