Fractures occur in 11 to 26% of renal allograft recipients after transplantation despite improvements in bone and mineral disorders. This high fracture rate is likely a consequence of accelerated osteopenia. The cause of posttransplant bone loss is multifactorial, and patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and renal failure may have additional fracture risks such as low turnover bone disease. An 8-y-old lactating Holstein cow was presented to the herd veterinarian with a history of acute ataxia, and because of poor prognosis, the animal was euthanized and submitted for postmortem examination. A lumbar vertebra was incompletely fractured and had an adjacent subdural hematoma. The pancreas had a hard texture with exaggerated nodular appearance, and on cut surface, the pancreatic ducts appeared fibrotic and contained scores of round-to-faceted pancreatoliths of 0.5–2.0 mm diameter. These calculi extended from the major ducts to the pancreatic duct, sphincter, and into the duodenal lum

Background: Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive disease characterized by early and relentless tumor spread, thus leading healthcare providers to consider it a “distant disease.” However, local pancreatic tumor progression can lead to substantial morbidity. This study defines the long-term morbidity from local and nonlocal disease progression in a large population-based cohort. Methods: A total of 21,500 Medicare beneficiaries diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2000 through 2011 were identified. T1-mapping has proven to be a valuable tool in cardiac imaging. While mainly used in cardiac MRI, it is investigated for usage and application of T1-mapping to imaging of other organs and systems, including abdominal imaging, musculoskeletal imaging or neuroradiology, resulting in potential new prospects for medical imaging. T1-mapping provides numerical data on an inherent, physical property of imaged tissue – enabling quantitative and comparative assessment of tissue characterization f.ex. fibrosis, amyloid contents, fatty transformation, myelinization or contrast enhancement as well as lesi

On admission, the patient was in severe pain. His vitals were significant for elevated blood pressure (BP) of 137/100 and pulse rate of 161 per minute, which resolved soon after pain medications and splint placement. On review of systems, he denied episodic spells of headaches, palpitations, pallor, tremors, anxiety, abdominal pain, or diaphoresis. He denied any family history of endocrine disorder

Dorsal duct stents were placed in 19 patients with subsequent needle knife sphincterotomy of the minor papilla over the stent. Introduction: Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) represents the principal determinant of morbidity and mortality after pancreaticoduodenectomy. Since 1994 we have been performing pancreaticogastrostomy with duct-to-mucosa anastomosis (Wirsung-pancreaticogastric anastomosis [WPGA]), but postoperative morbidity, although limited, was still a concern. An original pancreas-transfixing suture technique, named “Blumgart’s anastomosis” (BA), has shown efficacy at reducing fistula rates from pancreaticojejunostomy. Few cohort studies have shown that WPGA with
