Abstract:
This research aimed to determine the nutritional, sialic acid (SA) and fatty acid compositions of red hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis sp.), snakehead murrel (Channa striata), and sutchi catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) fish eggs. Eggs of P. hypophthalmus had the highest moisture (60.58%), ash (1.68%) and protein (25.19%) content while C. striata had the lowest moisture (48.58%), ash (0.81%) and protein (13.08%) content. Lipid content of C. striata fish eggs (35.94%) was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than Oreochromis sp. (14.23%) and Pangasius hypophthalmus (9.91%) fish eggs. Free sialic acid content of Oreochromis sp. (0.57 μg/mg) was significantly higher than Pangasius hypophthalmus (0.09 μg/mg) and Channa striata (0.11 μg/mg) fish eggs. Highest amount of saturated fatty acid was found in Pangasius hypophthalmus (44.04%) fish eggs, followed by Oreochromis sp. (37.69%) and Channa striata (24.40%) fish eggs. Monounsaturated fatty acid composition of Channa striata (45.53%) fish eggs was significantly higher than Oreochromis sp. (26.97%) and Pangasius hypophthalmus (23.33%) fish eggs. There was no significant difference (p > 0.05) of polyunsaturated fatty acid composition among three selected freshwater fish eggs. This study revealed that all selected freshwater fish eggs can be a source of major nutrients, SA and essential fatty acids.

Abstract:
Nuclear DNA content (NDC) of species or population is believed to have been formed naturally by many mechanisms such chromosomal mutation, insertion and deletion, transposable element, and duplication. Additionally, hybridizations and species’ phylogenetic relationship may also contribute to the NDC diversity. This study was aimed to investigate the profile of NDC in four species Asian catfishes of the genera Pangasius including Pangasionodon hypophthalmus, Pangasius djambal, Pangasius nasusutus, Pangasius nieuwenhuisii, interspecific hybrid of female P. hypophthalmus and male P. djambal (Hybrid HD), and female P. hypophthalmus and male P. nasutus (Hybrid HN). Red blood cells (RBC) were taken from the respective species/groups and NDC measurement was performed in an Attune acoustic flowcytometer (ABI) using DAPI staining and chicken, Gallus domesticus, RBC was used as size reference. The results showed that the mean NDC of P. hypophthalmus, P. djambal. P. nasusutus, P. nieuwenhuisii, were 0.960±0.0254 pg, 1.017±0.0510 pg, 1.000±0.0410 pg, 1.074±0.0231 pg, which are within the range of NDC in the other catfish families The NDC values of Hybrid HD and Hybrid HN were1.005±0.0358 and 0.956± 0.0089, respectively. Among the pure line species, the NDC of P. hypophthalmus was the lowest and was different (P<0.05) from those of P. djambal and P. nieuwenhuisii but was not different (P>0.05) from that of the P. nasutus. The NDC of both Hybrid HD and Hybrid HN were not different form their respective parental lines. However, the NDC profiles of both hybrids were different in that the NDC of the former was in between while the latter was below their respective parental lines. Phylogenetically, the NDC diversity within Pangasiid catfish in this study was independent of their phylogenetic relationship based on cytoplasmic and nuclear markers.

Abstract:
A study was conducted during 2016 to evaluate the effect of salt and mechanical drying on Pangasius at Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Andheri, Mumbai, India. In this study, the salted and unsalted Pangasius was mechanically dried at 60°C temperature and the quality of the dried Pangasius was evaluated. The quality parameters include the changes in proximate composition, physicochemical parameters [total volatile base nitrogen (TVBN), peroxide value (PV), free fatty acid (FFA), pH, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), salt, water activity], microbial enumeration (total viable count (TVC), Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus spp.) and sensory evaluation. The colour characteristics, percentage yield and storage stability of the product was also evaluated. From the results, it was observed that the protein and ash content of unsalted dried Pangasius was higher than salt dried Pangasius. From the results of physicochemical changes, it was observed that PV, FFA, TVBN, TBARS and salt content were higher in salt dried Pangasius. The TVBN, PV and salt content of salt dried Pangasius were 24.75 mg N 100 g-1, 4.17 meq O2 kg-1 fat and 14.55% respectively which were higher than the Unsaltd dried Pangasius. The salt dried Pangasius had higher L* value but lower a* and b* value than unsalted dried Pangasius. The unsalted dried Pangasius was unstable during storage whereas salt dried Pangasius was stable. Based on the results, it was concluded that salt drying is the most effective method of preservation for drying Pangasius at 60°C.

Abstract:
This study was carried out to identify accurately fish species in the processed fish products by using molecular markers. The nucleotide sequences of the Cytochrome c Oxidase Subunit I gene (COI) of 20 samples from 10 different processed fish products collected in some supermarkets in Hanoi (Big C Long Bien and Aeon Mall Long Bien) were analyzed. The sequences of COI gen were compared to the published data from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and The Barcode of Life Data System (BOLD) in order to determine the similarity. Results showed that there were only forty percents of the total samples with the scientific names matched the names on the packed products. The matched names of fish species between scientific names and packed products at the supermarkets were Salmon Oncorhynchus mykiss, Blue shark Prionace glauca and Tra Pangasius hypophthalmus. Meanwhile, sixty percents of the total samples were identified as mislabeled products. Most of these mislabeled products were found in the products of family Pangasius, from species Pangasius hypophthalmus into species Pangasius bocourti. Although no commercial frauds were found in this study since the price of fish species Pangasius hypophthalmus was cheaper than that of fish species Pangasius bocourti, the correct scientific names of fish species should be labelled for the processed products in order to protect the consumers. The present study also showed that the DNA extraction using a kit Dneasy mericon Food of Qiagen (Germany) and the PCR reaction using Fish and MAB primers were suitable for species identification of processed fish products.

It is really important, since the possible use of these pangasiid hybrids in aquaculture faces the problem of potential impact on wild population. Therefore, it is urgently needed to provide quick identification tools in the field. This study investigated morphological characters of Pangasius djambal and Pangasianodon hypophthalmus and their hybrids. A detailed morphological analysis using 32 morphometric measurements and five meristic counts was done on the hybridization of P. djambal and P. hypophthalmus. Morphometric analysis and meristic counts showed that the reciprocal hybrids have intermediate characters except for gill raker number in which lower than that of parental species. In general, the hybrids have tendency to be like P. hypophthalmus rather than P. djambal. The only typical character of P. djambal appeared on hybrids is teeth shape, both vomerine and palatine. It is clearly defined that the true hybrids have seven pelvic fin rays.

Abstract:
The present study focused on existing status and assessment of sustainability of Pangasius (Pangasius hypophthalmus) farming at Jhikargacha upazila in Jessore district. The research was carried out through questionnaire interview with randomly selected 80 farmers during December 2014 to May 2015. Most of farms (96%) are under polyculture, while only 4% is under monoculture practice. The source of pangasiid fingerlings were fry traders, nearby nursery, local hatchery and large hatchery from Jessore. Fingerlings size varied from 1 to 2 inch with price of TK. 0.5-1/fingerling. Majority of the farmers stocked fingerlings in March to April with average stocking density was 18,700 fingerlings/ha. About 46% of Pangasius farmers have leased ponds and lease value varied from Tk. 1,12,200-1,49,600/ha/yr. The leased ponds were solely used for Pangasius farming. Over 19% of farmers exchanged water one time per year, while 81% never exchanged. Almost all of the Pangasius farmers used supplementary feeds in their farms. Among the farmers, 37% of farmers received general aquaculture training from Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) and Department of Fisheries (DoF) and some non-government organizations (NGO’s). Average pond size was 0.17 ha of which 85% was perennial and 15% was seasonal. Various constraints such as, lack of capital and proper technological knowledge, lack of continuous supply of quality fry, high price of the inputs especially feed, adulteration of feed, inbreeding, improper marketing and management problems were prominent. Some farmers use some unethical feeds in their farms. The highest proportion (41%) of the people was involved in Pangasius farming as main occupation and their age was between 31-40 years. The main reason of converting their ponds and lands for Pangasius farmimg was to get more profit. Large farmers always got higher profit over 2.03 Lac Tk./ha. However, small and medium farmers also got over 1.9 lac Tk. profit per hectare from Pangasius farming. Though the potential of fish farming in Jhikargacha region is mentioned-worthy, it is currently facing a number of problems such as, lack of capital, proper technological knowledge, lack of regular supply of quality fingerlings, improper proportion of protein and supply of adulterate feed, high price of feed, inbreeding, marketing and management problems. If the suggested constraints could be solved, the fish production in Jhikargacha region would possibly be increased tremendously and the pangasius farming would be progressed towards sustainability.

Abstract:
In this study, to examine hematological and histological alterations, striped catfish exposed to 0.0, 2.5, 5.0, 10.0 mg L-1 copper concentrations for 48 hours. After that, four fish were selected per aquarium. First 24 and second 24 h, blood samples were taken. And then, their gills, liver, kidney, and spleen samples were collected. The blood samples were analyzed for hematocrit, hemoglobin, number of erythrocytes, MCHC, MCH and MCV. The tissue samples stained with standart tecnique of haematoxylin and eosin for histological assessment. Copper depending on concentrations increase caused some important hematological and histological alterations on striped catfish. Number of erythroryte, hematocrit and hemoglobin of striped catfish exposed to ≥ 2.5 mg L-1 of Cu concentrations increased in 48 h. Within first 24 h ≥ 2.5 mg L-1 of Cu caused edema, hyperplasia and fusion in gills. After 48 h, ≥ 2.5 mg L-1 of Cu formed very intense hyperplasia and degeneration of cartilage and epithelium tissue in the gills. Pyknotic nuclei and degenation in liver; necrosis and increase number of hemosterin clustering in spleen; degeneration of renal tubules and black spots in kidney were seen. As a result of that, ≥ 2.5 mg L-1 of Cu caused high mortality and histological disorders within 48 h.

Abstract:
This study analyzed and compared the nutritional profiles of wild (Pangasius pangasius) and farmed (Pangasius hypophthalmus) pangasius catfish collected from the various sources of river and culture ponds in Bangladesh. The results indicated that the wild pangasius catfish had a significantly (p < 0.05) higher levels of moisture, fat and ash content, compared to the farmed one. However, the farmed pangasius had significantly higher level of protein and carbohydrate, compared to wild pangasius. The total EAA ratio was found to be significantly higher (p < 0.05) in wild pangasius (1.51 ± 0.01 g/100 g), compared to farmed pangasius (1.55 ± 0.01 g/100 g), which exceeded the FAO/WHO minimum standard of 40% for both species. In regard to fatty acid contents, wild pangasius was found to be rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) with a mean value of 4.89% and 2.72%, respectively, while the values in the farmed pangasius were 1.07% and 0 (not detected), respectively. A higher ω-3/ω-6 ratio was found in wild pangasius 14.26%, in comparison with farmed pangasius (0.14%). Overall, the results indicated that pangasius catfish either farmed or wild are suitable for human consumption wherein wild pangasius has superior amino acid and fatty acid quality, compared to the pangasius reared in captivity.

Abstract:
The Siamese catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) can be cultivated with high stocking density and minimal water usage. The factor influencing fish growth is primarily water quality. The research aims to analyze the Variation of Stocking Density and Water Flow Rate for the Growth and Survival of Siamese catfish Fry (Pangasius hypophthalmus). The study was conducted in Sungai Malang Village, Amuntai Tengah District, North Hulu Sungai Regency, South Kalimantan. The experiment with two different factors can be applied to all experimental units: Factor A (Stocking Density) A1 = Stocking density 1,000 (fish/m3), A2 = Stocking density 3,000 fish/m3, Factor B (Water Flow Rate) B1 = Water flow rate 0 L/second (Control), B2 = Water flow rate 0.1 L/second, B3 = Water flow rate 0.2 L/second. Research Parameters: Absolute weight growth, Absolute length growth, Survival rate, and Condition factor. The influence of stocking density and water flow rate variations on the growth and survival of Siamese catfish fry (Pangasius hypophthalmus), focusing on stocking density (1,000 fish/m³ and 3,000 fish/m³) and water flow rate (control, 0.1 L/second, and 0.2 L/second). The research results show that the combination of stocking density of 3,000 fish/m³ and water flow rate of 0.2 L/second yields the best results in terms of absolute weight and length growth, as well as a higher survival rate. Stocking density variation significantly affects survival rates, while water flow rate does not show the same influence. Condition factors, including survival and growth, are also influenced by stocking density and water flow rate. Keywords: Siamese catfish, stocking density, water flow rate, factorial

Abstract:
Pangasius is a freshwater fish included in the main commodity by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Indonesia. Siamese catfish production ranked 4th in freshwater fish commodities in 2016 after goldfish, tilapia, and catfish. Pangasius has a lack of EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) if compared with fish from the sea. Application of additional different levels of soybean oil in commercial fish fed to enhance EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) in Perkasa pangasiid flesh. This study was conducted to determine the effect of adding soybean oil with different levels of commercial fish feed given to Perkasa striped catfish on growth performance, feed efficiency, EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid), and DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid). This experimental study used a Complete Randomized Design (CDR) with triplicates and five treatments with additional levels of soybean oil in commercial fish fed: (a) 0%, (b) 2%, (c) 4%, (d) 6%, and (e) 8%. The result showed that treatment of (e) is the best treatment for increasing the EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) in Pangasius flesh. However, additional different levels of soybean oil in the commercial fish feed have no negative effect on growth performance and feed efficiency in Perkasa pangasiid.

Modifikasi proses lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk menaikkan titik nyala serta menurunkan titik tuang, sehingga produk ini dapat memenuhi persyaratan sebagai biopelumas.ABSTRACTThe pangasius processing in Indonesia has a by-products waste, that can reach up to 67% of its total weight, and may cause pollution. An environmentally friendly lubricant (biolubricant) is a potential solution that transforms the by-products waste into an economically value product. However, the proceed biolubricant has to meet the Indonesian National Standard (abbreviated SNI). The purpose of this study were to characterize the biolubricant from pangasius (Pangasius hypophthalmus) by-products, which is the viscera part, and to compare the product with the Indonesian lubricant standard SNI 7069.9: 2016 reference. The crude fish oil was extracted from the viscera using the wet rendering method. Furthermore, the crude fish oil was converted into biolubricant through the stages of hydrolysis, polymerization, and polyesterification. The raw material of pangasius by-products was characterized by fatty acid profiles, free fatty acid numbers, and saponification numbers. Meanwhile, the biolubricant product was characterized by density, kinematic viscosity at temperatures of 40 and 100°C, color, viscosity index, flashpoint, pour point, and hazardous corrosion test. The results showed that the best biolubricants were those through the polyesterification temperature process of 135°C. This biolubricant has a density of 0.903 g/cm3; a viscosity at 40°C of 39.76 cSt; a viscosity at 100°C of 7.94 cSt; a viscosity index of 176; and low corrosion level (1A). The viscosity index and corrosion of copper blades were adequate for biolubricant standards. However, the biolubricant flashpoint was relatively low (127°C) and the pour point was relatively high (27°C). A further modification is needed to adjust the flash and pour points so that the biolubricant able to fullfil the national lubricant standard.

Abstract:
During the processing of frozen Pangasius hypophthalmus fillets, the microbiological counts depend on the source of raw materials and processing conditions, those impact significantly on the quality of the final product. In particular, trimming is considered a high-risk step of cross-contamination during processing. This study aimed to compare and evaluate the microbial quality at trimming step in four frozen Pangasius processing factories located in the Mekong Delta region. Trimmed Pangasius fillet and contact surfaces samples (i.e., gloves and processing tools) were examined including total mesophilic counts, Coliforms, E. coli and coagulase-positive Staphylococci (Staphylococci coa+). The results showed that total mesophilic counts on trimming Pangasius processed in A, B, C and D plant were 7.1 ± 0.4; 7.5 ± 0.7; 6.7 ± 1.1 and 6.0 ± 0.4 log CFU/g, respectively. Coliforms, E. coli and Staphylococci coa+ on trimmed Pangasius ranged 4.0 - 5.1; 2.1 - 3.7 and 1.8 - 4.2 log CFU/g, respectively. Thus, proper preservation of fillets during processing is suggested. Good manufacturing practices should implement effectively to minimize the risk of cross-contamination for the trimmed fillets.

Concern to this program is due to the problem of potential impact on wild population. Hence, it is urgently needed to provide quick identification tools in the field and as well as commercial aspect in term of growth rate. This study investigated biometric characters, growth performance, and ovarian development of Pangasius djambal and Pangasianodon hypophthalmus and their reciprocal hybrids. A detailed morphological analysis was done on the hybrids of P. djambal and P. hypophthalmus. Earthen pond on the growth comparison as well as the ovarian development was also observed. The results of morphometric and meristic showed that the reciprocal hybrids have intermediate characters except for gill rakers numbers in which lower than that of parental species. Growth analysis showed that hybrids has better performance compare to the parental one, while ovarian development of hybrids was developed abnormal. No oocytes reached vitellogenesis and showed major atresia and fatty. It can be concluded that hybrids of P. djambal and P. hypophthalmus is true hybrids. Abstract:
Patin (Pangasius hypophthalmus), a commercially important freshwater fish, is a rich source of protein containing both essential and non-essential amino acids, crucial for various biological functions. This study aimed to determine the amino acid composition of muscle tissue, oil, and bones of P. hypophthalmus and evaluate the wound healing potential of its oil extract in Rattus norvegicus. High-Performance Liquid Chromatography was employed to quantify the levels of essential and non-essential amino acids in each tissue. Results revealed that P. hypophthalmus oil exhibited the highest total amino acid content, particularly rich in histidine, arginine, and lysine. The wound healing activity of P. hypophthalmus oil extract was assessed in a rodent model, demonstrating a significant reduction in wound area (0.62-0.84 mm) and an impressive wound healing percentage (79-84.45%). These findings suggest that different parts of P. hypophthalmus possess valuable nutritional and therapeutic properties. Notably, the high amino acid content of P. hypophthalmus oil, particularly essential amino acids, highlights its potential as a promising source for developing pharmaceutical products, including amino acid supplements, wound healing agents, and formulations for metabolic support. Further research is warranted to fully explore the therapeutic potential of P. hypophthalmus oil and its bioactive components.

<p>This study was aimed to determine optimum dose of L-Ascorbyl-2-Phosphate Magnesium in the diet of patin, <em>Pangasius hypophthalmus</em> fingerlings. Five isoprotein and isocaloric diets containing different dose of L-Ascorbyl-2-Phosphate Magnesium, i.e. 0, 25, 75 and 100 mg/kg diet were used in this experiment. Fish with an average size of 5.00±0.11 g were maintained at a density of 15 fish per aquarium. Fish were fed three times a day <em>at satiation</em>, for 40 days. The results of study shows that vitamin C content in fish body increased as the vitamin C level of the diet increased. Similar pattern to vitamin C content was also found in protein retention, lipid retention, daily growth rate, and feed efficiency (<em>p</em>< 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that the most optimum dose of L-Ascorbyl-2-Phosphate Magnesium as vitamin C source for patin fingerlings in this experiment was 100 mg Vit C/kg diet. Higher dose of L-Ascorbyl-2-Phosphate Magnesium than 100 mg/kg diet however need to be further verified.</p> <p>Keywords: vitamin C, patin, <em>Pangasius hypophthalmus</em>.</p> <p> </p> <p>ABSTRAK</p> <p>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan kadar optimum L-Ascorbyl-2-Phosphate Magnesium dalam pakan ikan patin, <em>Pangasius hypophthalmus</em> ukuran sejari.

ABSTRACTHybridization between female striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) and male nasutus catfish (Pangasius nasutus) has been conducted in Indonesia and Malaysia. However, only limited characteristics of the hybrid already reported. The present study aimed to elucidate the morphological differences between the hybrid and both parental species. Each 35 fish specimens of seven months old were examined through the measurement of 35 morphometric caharacters and the count of five meristic characters, as conducted by previous workers. Additionally, the morphology of gill rakers, mouth, snout, eye, maxillary and palatal dentitions, swim bladder, adipose fin and the body colouration were observed. The results revealed that the hybrid was morphometrically similar to the striped catfish and slightly differed from the nasutus catfish. For meristic characters, the hybrid could be practically differentiated from both parental species based on the number of pelvic fin rays. Morphologically, the hybrid differed from the striped catfish in terms of gill rakers, swim bladder, mouth, snout, maxillary and palatal dentitions, adipose fin and the body colouration. While, the hybrid was morphologically different from the nasutus catfish in terms of mouth, snout, eye position, maxillary and palatal dentitions, swim bladder and the body colouration.

Abstract:
Edible film gelatin sourced from pangasius catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) can be added with ginger oil due to its antibacterial properties. This study aimed to compare edible film made from pangasius catfish gelatin (EFC) and bovine gelatin (EFB) as well as evaluate the antibacterial properties pangasius catfish gelatin film with the addition of ginger oil (Zingiber officinale) against Streptococcus mutans. The antibacterial activity of edible film with ginger oil addition was assessed using the disc diffusion method with chloramphenicol as a positive control. The results showed that thickness of EFC 0.105 mm while EFB 0.124; EFC less transparent than EFB; water vapour transmission rate both EFC and EFB were no different. The average inhibition zones of EFC against Streptococcus mutans with ginger oil addition at concentrations of 1%, 2%, and 3% were 5.49 mm, 6.92 mm, and 7.62 mm, respectively, and higher than EFB. In conclusion, EFC exhibited varying characteristics when compared to EFB, and the combination of edible film with ginger oil inhibited the growth of Streptococcus mutans, with the highest average inhibition zone of 7.62 mm at a 3% ginger oil concentration.

Abstract:
AbstractThe proximate composition, fatty acids and amino acids profile as well as mineral composition of frozen fillets from Pangasius catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) imported to Poland (PP), Germany (PG) and Ukraine (PU) and fillets from Nile tilapia (Oreochromis nilotcus) imported to Poland (TP) and Germany (TG) were investigated. PU contained ten times more fat than PG and PP. Tilapia fillets contained higher levels of n-3 fatty acids and showed more preferable n-6/n-3 ratio than pangasius fillets. The fillets of PG contained higher levels of protein and essential amino acids than PU and PP, however the amino acids composition of pangasius and tilapia fillets was similar for all specimens. The fillets of PP and PU contained significantly higher amounts of sodium than other studied groups, which suggests that they were subjected to additional treatment to increase their water holding capacity. The results show significant differences in the nutritional composition of pangasius depending on their place of import, thus it was recommended that more information regarding the nutritional composition of the frozen fillets sold through self-service freezers should be provided for the final consumer.

Abstract:
Nowadays, Pangasius hypophthalmus fillet is one of the main marine products in Vietnamese Mekong River Delta with over three hundred thousand tons per year. One of the byproducts of this industry is fat, about one hundred thousand tons per year. That byproduct has been only used in animal foodstuff industry after oil extracting or it becomes waste. In order to increase the quality of Pangasius hypophthalmus oil, we have enriched PUFA in the oil by hydrolysis with immobilized Rhizopus oryzea lipase. Lipase has been immobilized on celite by absorption method. Immobilization experiments have been designed in a two-level full factorial model with three factors. The fish oil has been hydrolyzed with immobilized lipase to enrich PUFA with optimized parameters found out: the ratio of enzyme to support of 1:10 g/g, the ratio of phosphate buffer volume to support weight of 30.55 ml/g, incubation time of 5.15 hours. The result has showed that 60-minute hydrolysis is the most appropriate. Additionally, the oil iodine value has increased from 71.4 to 97.4, and DHA concentration has risen from 1156mg/kg to 1916mg/kg.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Pangasius hypophthalmus (Sauvage, 1878), native to the Mekong River, has the potential to fulfill the protein requirements of the most populous and developing country, Pakistan. The objectives of this research were to determine the optimal dosage of ovaprim for increasing the ovulation rate in female P. hypophthalmus and to investigate its impact on the latency period. There were two pairs of male–female fish in each of the three groups, and each group of fish was placed in separate cement tanks. Our study included administering three distinct dosages of ovaprim to three separate groups of male and female P. hypophthalmus. We then measured their body weights and ovulation cycles. In Group 1, females were administered a dosage of 0.5 ml/kg on the basis of their body weight, and their ovulation phase lasted for 13–14 hours. In Group 2, a dose of 0.6 ml/kg was administered to females and their ovulation duration resided for 13–15 hours. Group 3, on the other hand, was administered a dosage of 0.7 ml/kg to females, and the ovulation period for this group lasted 12–14 hours. In contrast, males in all three groups were given an OVP injection of 0.2 ml/kg b.w. The latency period, ovulation duration, and fertilization rate of all female P. hypophthalmus samples were approximately 16–18 h, 12–15 h, and 42–65%, respectively. Our findings revealed that a single dose of OVP (0.7 ml/kg b.w.) was effective. It was concluded that OVP may be used by hatchery operators to artificially promote maximum spawning of P. hypophthalmus.

Abstract:
<p>Culture of patin <em>Pangasius hypophthalmus </em>especially larval rearing very depends on the supply of natural food as energy source. <em>Artemia</em> is the main natural food for fish larvae as a starter food, but its price is high. To reduce production cost, farmers tend to reduce the feeding frequency and shorten the <em>Artemia </em>feeding period. Altering feeding regime however may reduce fry quality. This relate to the availability of digestive enzymes. The objective of this study was to examine digestive enzymes activity in patin larvae fed with different feeding regime. By shorten feeding period with <em>Artemia</em> to 2-4 days and <em>Tubifex</em>,substitution, the enzymes activity of protease, lipase and amylase were revealed similar pattern The enzymes activity tends to increase and reach the peak at day 7 , and decrease later on until day 15 after hatching. Survival rate of fish were varied for each treatment, and the highest survival rate was obtained when larvae were fed by <em>Artemia </em>for 8 days. Blood worm were not fully digested by patin larvae at early stage.</p> <p>Keywords: enzyme, digestion, patin, <em>Pangasius hypophthalmus</em></p> <p> </p> <p>ABSTRAK</p> <p>Proses budidaya ikan patin, <em>Pangasius hypophthalmus</em> terutama pembenihan sangat tergantung oleh ketersediaan pakan alami sebagai sumber energinya. Abstract:
The viscera of Pangasius fish was studied to provide baseline information about the presence of antibiotic-resistant E. coli on it. This aimed to assess the possible resistance of bacterial pathogens to antibiotics and cross-contamination into the fish's muscles during processing, as well as to evaluate the effect of starvation on the microbial loads of Pangasius fish viscera. The resistance of E. coli was tested against 15 antimicrobial agents using the disk diffusion method. The findings revealed that starvation reduced microbial loads on the viscera compared to non-starvation Pangasius. LAB, coliforms, and E. coli count on viscera of non-starved Pangasius were 7.0±0.5, 5.5±0.9 and 5.4±1.0 log CFU g-1, whereas those of the starved fish were 2.6±0.8, 3.8±0.4 and 3.1±0.3 log CFU g-1, respectively. A total of 55 E. coli isolated from Pangasius viscera were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility as stated above. Surprisingly, 69.09% of E. coli isolates were multi-antibiotic resistant from three to fifteen antibiotics tested. A high level of resistance to ampicillin (63.64%), ceftazidime (69.09%), nalidixic acid (78.18%) was observed. More importantly, 9.09% of the E. coli isolates were resistant to all kinds of antibiotics tested. As E. coli is a potential vector for transfer of antibiotic resistance gene, causing cross-resistance with human enteric pathogens, there is a need for both the prudent use of these antimicrobial agents in aquaculture and stringent appropriate infection control in the processing chain in Vietnam.

Abstract:
With the intensification of aquaculture system, off-flavor in cultured pangasius catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) has become a problem in Bangladesh, resulting in poor acceptability and reduced market price. Since water quality parameters and sediment have greater implications on fish quality, studies were undertaken to identify potential off-flavor agents by investigating water temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO) pH, phytoplankton diversity and sediment organic carbon in 3 randomly selected ponds of 3upazilain Mymensingh district viz., Sadar, Trishal and Muktagachha. Water temperature and DO was found to be significantly different in ponds of Trishalupazila along with significantly high sediment organic carbon (p<0.05). Correspondingly, the Algal Genus Pollution Index (AGPI) estimated to study the water quality revealed that ponds in this upazila has the highest organic nutrient level (25.33±3.21). These values, along with strong positive correlation of cyanobacteria abundance and water temperature, sediment organic carbonindicate higher risk of off-flavor production in pond water. Adoption of proper management strategies need to taken immediately so that off-flavor producing organisms can be minimized. This will ensure higher acceptability of pangasius catfish produced in this region and safeguard livelihoods of the fish producers.

Abstract:
Hemorrhagic disease in Pangasius (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) poses a significant challenge to intensive aquaculture, leading to economic losses and reduced productivity. This study aimed to identify pathogenic bacteria associated with the disease and select beneficial bacterial strains with strong antagonistic potential for sustainable disease management. Through isolation and characterization, Kurthia gibsonii was identified as a novel pathogen causing hemorrhagic disease in pangasius, confirmed using infection experiments and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Additionally, 14 bacterial strains were isolated from sediment and fish gut samples, of which eight exhibited inhibitory activity against K. gibsonii. Among these, two strains, Bacillus velezensis (A2A) and Bacillus subtilis (CL2.1), demonstrated the highest inhibitory effects, with inhibition zone diameters of 10.8 mm and 10.5 mm, respectively. These strains were identified through MALDI-TOF analysis and comparison with the NCBI database. The findings highlight the potential of Bacillus velezensis and Bacillus subtilis as biocontrol agents in mitigating hemorrhagic disease in pangasius, offering a sustainable alternative to antibiotics.

Abstract:
Disease outbreaks and mortality in giant gourami and Asian catfish (pangasius) culture have been frequently reported during the last decade. Etiological agents of the disease have remained unknown, so it is needed to explore epidemiological studies to know the main causative agents. The study aimed to know the main pathogenic agents who were identified during disease outbreaks on giant gourami and pangasius. Data and information were collected through active and passive surveillance at the production centers of each species. Analysis was carried out according to standard fish disease diagnosis and eventually was focused on two suspected new emerging diseases (NED), namely Infectious Spleen and Kidney Necrosis Virus (ISKNV) belonging to Megalocytivirus on giant gourami and Enteric Septicemia of Catfish (ESC) caused by Edwardsiella ictaluri on pangasius. The results showed that ISKNV was detected on most of the diseased giant gourami samples and that E. ictaluri was identified on most diseased pangasius samples. This study concluded that both pathogenic agents, Megalocytivirus and E. ictaluri were suspected to be potentially NED on freshwater aquaculture, especially infecting giant gourami and pangasius respectively.

Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the current use of drugs, chemicals, herbs, and herbal extract products in grow-out farms of snakehead (Channa striata) and Pangasius catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. The survey was conducted with a total of 60 Pangasius catfish grow-out farms in An Giang and Dong Thap provinces, and 60 snakehead grow-out farms in An Giang and Tra Vinh provinces. The results showed that bacterial diseases were commonly reported by snakehead farmers (1-4 episodes per crop) and Pangasius catfish farmers (1 to 12 episodes per crop). Farmers used 12 types of single antibiotics and a mixture of two antibiotics in Pangasius catfish, and eight types of antibiotics in snakehead aquaculture. However, Pangasius catfish and snakehead farmers used enrofloxacin and ciprofloxacin, which are banned antibiotics according to the Vietnamese authority regulations. For the use of herbs and herbal extract products, a variety of commercial products were used by farmers which claimed different purposes for use. According to the farmers, the quality and effectiveness of these products were questionable. Some farmers used traditional herbs following their experiences using traditional medicines for humans and did not really know about the application doses. Thus, it would be requested for in-depth studies on the use of herbs as on-farm treatments, which would provide evidence for the use of herbs in the industry.
