Abstract:
Our thesis aims at questioning the validity of a number of the presently established models concerning the traditional Korean popular music, namely, "pansori". In fact, "pansori" constitutes a creative synthetic art composed of different genres of the traditional Korean music known in Korea of the 18th century. The first part of our thesis has to do with the appraisal of the respective role of the different branches of the traditional Korean cultural heritage so as to determine and situate the place of "pansori" within the proper context of the Korean history itself. The critical reexamination which we have undertaken allowed us finally to discover lots of anomalies and even errors in the theoretical frameworks supposed to explain the phenomena of the pansori. As such discrepancies seemed to us to be symptomatic of the approach based on the misplaced conceptualization, we felt it necessary to review those discoveries of ours and integrate them in the entirely new paradigms, and this, to open new perspectives in the ethnomusicological studies with regard to "pansori"

Abstract:
Pansori is an old traditional performing art in which a performer sings a long orally transmitted text. It bas been recently recognized as Guttural Heritage (Korea 1964, Unesco 2003). The first part is a reflection on hovv pansori is nowadays conceived as a cultural object, especially through the way its history is being reinvented ail along the ages, The second part analyzes the three following literature, music, and performance. It underlines the way they are connected and organized around the stage performance, the full accomplishment of pansori. The third part shows how the genre oral transmission nowadays by avoiding folklorization trend to the benefit of a duality between classicisation (fixed repertory) and modernity (creation of new works), and manages to broaden the audience by studying the history of pansori in France

Abstract:
This practice-led research investigated the negotiation processes informing effective models of transcultural collaboration. In a creative project interweaving the image-based physicality of the Japanese dance form of butoh with the traditional Korean vocal style of p'ansori, a series of creative development cycles were undertaken with a team of artists from Australia and Korea, culminating in Deluge, a work of physical theatre. The development of interventions at 'sites of transcultural potential' resulted in improvements to the negotiation of interpersonal relationships and assisted in the emergence of a productive working environment in transculturally collaborative artistic practice.

Abstract:
This thesis is a cross-cultural examination of the relationship between the trained physiology of the voice and culture. Building on Barthes's notion of the grain of the voice,' I argue that each training system moulds the body in a way that decisively affects aesthetic phonation. Therefore I analyse voice training as a bodily inscription, in its Foucauldian sense, and I focus on the pedagogical ethics crystallised in the 'grain of the genre.' This I define as the collective 'grain' to which pedagogies of codified genres aspire, beyond and apart from the individual singing performer's 'grain' ; in other words, the 'grain of the genre' is the means by which culture is reaffirmed in/through the trainee's voice. The introductory chapter looks at the anatomical and physiological properties of the voice, traces the history of theorisations of the voice in order to situate my project, and explains my methodologies as a practitioner/researcher. Drawing on extended practical fieldwork, each of the subsequent three chapters explores the ' grain' of three pedagogies in the light of my personal training and the historical, musicological and broader cultural research I conducted in relation to each method. The three training approaches are a recent development in the area of bel canto (Integrative Performance Practice by 'Experience Vocal Dance Company,' USA and UK), an Asian traditional genre (Korean pansori), and a training pertaining to the Western avant-garde tradition (Centre for Theatre Practices 'Gardzienice,' Poland). Chapter 2 argues that the transdisciplinary grain of IPP on one hand adheres to a scientific approach to voicing, while attempting to bypass the deadends of the predominant training of the 'natural' voice. Chapter 3 acknowledges the grain of pansori as developed and promoted through the explicit aesthetic agenda of Korean han. Chapter 4 studies the grain of Gardzienice as one of 'laughing openness,' a grain mainly preoccupied with the inter-corporeal and the relational. The final chapter revisits the category of the 'grain of the genre' through my embodied perspective as a cross-cultural researcher. I reexamine the Foucauldian aspects of the 'grain' and its disciplinary character through the lens of the axis docility-resistance. I conclude the thesis with the suggestion of a dynamic relation between culture and vocal practice, the resistant aspects of which are, I argue, foregrounded when voice is addressed and taught as phonic and foreign.

Abstract:
Kersti Ståbi Performing poems from the Poetic Edda I am a folk singer and oral storyteller. In my Masters project I have made a series of concerts performing the poem Vǫluspá from the Poetic Edda in its original Old Norse. Building on the musical elements in the Eddic poems, I’ve been searching the borderlands between speech and singing, using melodic material in the modern Swedish and Norwegian languages. As a method I have imitated singers in different living epic singing traditions from around the world, basing the creative process on mimicry and improvisation. This was a fast route to performances of great diversity: the Manas singer from Kyrgyzstan gradually enters a trancelike state, while Pansori from Korea made me think "unmelodic folk opera" and the Indian Pandvani is all-or-nothing storytelling with music serving as an engine. One specific perspective I have researched is the concept of a ”First Listener” - a representative of the audience on stage that can, but doesn’t necessarily have to, contribute musically. Traditionally the First Listener in Pandvani is very active; singing, shouting and challenging the teller, while the Pansori First Listener is a supporting commenting percussionist. As a storyteller and lead singer I found the presence of a First Listener highly fruitful in the process leading up to the performances. As a stage concept it offers forceful dynamics between the singer, the listeners and the poem. The poems of the Poetic Edda were created and performed in an oral tradition, but survived to modern times only via written text. I regard myself a performer formed in a literate culture but in an oral music tradition. With that in mind I have explored performance of this epic material and its metres. Translation has become a keyword with many facets.

Un-Yung La was one of the first Korean composers of Western style choral music who used Korean folk elements in his composers. According to Un-Yung La's musical theory, which he demonstrated in Easter Cantata. Korean-style melody and rhythm were created based on Korean traditional scales and he also used Western-style harmonization. He attempted a new Korean style of expression through Sikimsae technique in Korean traditional vocal music genres: Pansori and Sijo. The purpose of this paepr is to discuss traditional Korean performance elements related to melody, harmony, and rhythm as employed in La's Easter Cantata. The study will increase the knowledge of western conductors who wish to understand Korean folk music in preparation for performance of choral works such as La's Easter Cantata.

Abstract:
Since today's weapons systems are becoming more efficient with higher penetration and greater efficacy, it is no longer possible to only put on more armor to get adequate protection. The vehicles become too heavy and mobility is adversely affected to an excessive degree, because of this systems for active protection are now breaking into the market. These systems are actively scanning the vehicle's surroundings and shoot down incoming threats such as rockets and robots and are already implemented in a number of countries in our region. The infantry's main armament against armored units, which traditionally have been just missiles, rockets and grenades are in many cases useless meeting with active protection systems. The paper examines the possibilities of reaching effect in targets equipped with active armor using the equipment available to the Swedish armed forces today. The existing active protection systems Trophy, Iron Curtain and Arena have been chosen as example systems. The weapons systems examined are STRIX , Rb56 , Pskott m/86 , Grg m/86 and Fordonsmina 14. One conclusion is that the audited systems all lack the ability to protect the vehicle from threats that come from directly above; this means that STRIX is fully functional to a vehicle protected by an active protection system.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this essay is to develop one or more ways to neutralize an enemy equipped with heavy reactive armour. Reactive armour has previously only protected against shaped charges. Technological advances have now led to today's reactive armour in addition to protection against shaped charges also capable of protecting against an Armour-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot (APFSDS). The Americans discovered that this technology was available to the Russians and developed new types of APFSDS to deal with it. But what have we done in Sweden since this technology was discovered? In this essay, the author makes the assumption that the Swedish APFSDS can’t penetrate a tank equipped with reactive armour. A comparative model will compare three different ways to deal with this problem. Before doing the comparative model study, there will be a chapter which describes for example reactive armour, APFSDS, Kontakt-5 (a type of reactive armour), tank protection in general. The model consists of one Leopard 2A5 S (Leo 2) and one enemy tank equipped with reactive armour. By comparing different ways for the Leo 2 to defeat the enemy, the author will reach a conclusion for the problem. The conclusion drawn from this essay is that the normal procedure when the Leo 2 initially has an APFSDS loaded in the canon should be changed to it having a grenade loaded instead. Bursting a grenade towards the enemy will destroy or damage Kontakt-5 and the second projectile, which should be an APFSDS, will now penetrate the damaged Kontakt-5 and the hostile tank will be defeated.

Abstract:
Through this study, a theoretical essay on literary devices at the heart of writing violence in sub-Saharan Africa in the twenty-first century will be proposed. The objective of this work will be to determine if the existence of a feminine literary device emerging in response to a violent context is conceivable. The highlight of this study will be to demonstrate how the literary device is interacting with the violent device by introducing both order and disorder, beyond the generic borders. This research focuses on six works written between 2000 and 2010. Tanella Boni, writer and philosopher, will be honored through the study of two novels: "Curfew" (2005) and "Negroes n ' will never go to heaven" (2006). To these two fictions will be grafted his poetic opus "Everyday Hope" (2002). We will compare these works with two fiction and a poetic collection of Veronique Tadjo: "The shadow of Imana: Travels to the end of Rwanda" (2000) and "Far from my father" (2010) and "Midway" (2000)

Abstract:
Between here and elsewhere, between practices and disciplines, between patients, surgeons and psychiste, this thesis is the effect of meetings with children with orthopedic trauma suffered. Burglary, the fracture is orthopeadic trauma and made trauma. Desubjectivation, fragmentation of the body, violence, pain and suffering are then the lot of children in pediatric surgery. And when the end prevails over all the body, the body becomes other-I. From Abidjan to Paris, four clinical histories of children show that, amid terror and loss of the look, the face-losing is at work in pediatric surgery regardless of the quality or type of care. In these children, self-representation and subjective testing of three drawings helped to understand the disturbances in self-image and suffering taking’s face and other issues involved. It appeared that the repair is not always followed by restoration. Therapeutic and relational mediator, drawing has proven tool visage-ification of burglary and psycho revisage-ification its mirror function. In the time of care, then replays the mirror stage. The underpinning of mothering look and psychiste, in the process, promote rebuilding of the child's self whose effect is to give it a unified picture of him promoting a reappropriation of the body. Thus emerges a new function of psychiste in pediatric surgery, that of "psy-chir" to describe the terms of a particular psychotherapeutic assistance in support of the design and visage-ification, to heal the body

Abstract:
Theorists in war studies have since the 1940’s debated the issue of the connection between technology and tactical development, and at the end of the 1990’s a technological revolution in warfare was debated. As presented in this thesis the debate is far from completed. Lieutenant Commander Erik Öhrn made an effort to construct a general theory for this connection in 2011 at the Swedish Defense University. Preliminary studies prove that the theory is applicable for naval tactics. The purpose of this thesis is to examine if the theory is valid in mechanized tactics by studying the introduction of the Swedish Combat Vehicle 90. In using a qualitative method, searching for theoretical constructed indicators, this thesis finds shortages in the theory as a general theory for the connection between technology and tactical development. The definition and concept of technology is among these shortages, which is a crucial part of the understanding of the revolution debated in previous research.

Abstract:
P’ansori is a unique form of Korean traditional music in the opera genre. It is known for its distinctive rhythm, vocal timbre, key, and texture. Musical pioneer Dongjin Kim (1913-2009) masterfully blended authentic Korean music with Western style music most notably in two operas that retained their p’ansori heritage while also appealing to wider audiences. Kim believed in the importance of accurately portraying Korean culture and history in his vocal music feeling that Korea’s “unique national music” had much to contribute to the rest of the world. Although traditional p’ansori operas are sung with a gritty and husky voice that lacks any sense of resonance, Kim adapted this harsh style for Western singers by introducing what he called “shin-ch’ang-ak” (New Singing Music). The purpose of shinch’ang-ak was to allow singers to retain their normal vocal technique while preserving key elements of traditional p’ansori. Previous studies of shin-ch’ang-ak have focused primarily on its history, purpose, and design and typically have been written in the Korean language. In this study I expound upon this work in English and I provide a vocal interpretation of Kim’s shin-ch’ang-ak as applied to excerpts taken from his two operas. I also offer my own suggestions for performing Kim’s shin-ch’ang-ak provided from the perspective of a performer who has practiced Western music.

"Hyun Jaemyeong’s Opera Chunhyang-Jeon: Ancient Traditions and Western Perspectives." Doctoral diss., 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/2286/R.I.43971.

Abstract:
abstract: ABSTRACT Korea’s first opera Chunhyang Jeon was composed by Jaemyeong Hyun in 1948. Until that time, most Korean vocal music was sung by a few native traditional artists. Inspired by their work, composer Hyun combined elements from the ancient Pansori (epic poetic forms presented by a solo singer with drum) and Western music techniques to create his opera. Hyun also used the more vernacular Hangeul (Korean alphabet) for his libretto rather than the Chinese usually heard in Korean theatrical presentations. It might be noted that in that same year (1948), the first Western opera: Verdi’s La Traviata was performed in Seoul. This study concerns the bringing together of Korean traditional idioms (in Pansori) and Western musical ideas (harmony, orchestration, etc.) to create what is now known as Chunhyang-jeon Opera. In this regard, the author will present a brief split-analysis of the older style and the more modern musical attributes of the combined style of traditional Korean music and European style opera. It is hoped that this study might provide the basis for a future opera course and guide for both disciplines. This study will also show that the Pansori and its subsequent operatic treatment has historical, social and artistic elements. Some similarities and differences of both forms were noted here with regard to cultural sensitivities. While Chunhyang-ga (older form) and Chunhyang-jeon (Hyun’s modern adaptation) have some musical similarities, the latter was not composed based on the former. Chunhyang-ga consists mainly of compound meter (6/8, 9/8, 12/8, 24/8), which is at the heart of Korean traditional music, while Chunhyang-jeon uses simple meter (2/4, 3/4, 4/4). Identical words are not often used in the two works, but their libretti are of much significance. Chunhyang-ga had been traditionally handed down with Chinese characters, whereas Chunhyang-jeon constituted its libretto with more modern Korean words which were easily understood by the audience. Pansori have been sung with traditional singing techniques, which demonstrate the flow of the melodic line found in the images of the words (as interpreted and improvised by the solo performer), while in opera, vocal music is primarily from a set of melodic and harmonic techniques.

Abstract:
In this work we tried to look into the life of John Amos Comenius. Simultaneously we dismantle his ideological basis, with respect to pansophia. We paused at Comenius perception of faith in God and the individual points Panorthosia. In main chapter, we compared the Comenius pedagogical bases with current educational trends. In conclusion we came to the findings that we specify differences between Comenius thinking and contemporary times. We have pointed out that in the general scale of the world is closer to the ideals of Comenius. As regards the actual pedagogical research, the current education seeks to upgrade its educational methods, but in some places groping through the influence of different opinions. The problem of the present time we have found the utilization of the contemporary world , together with a lack of time. The disadvantages include the still poorly organized curricula, while lack of respect for the teachers. By contrast, a clear positive of today we added the currently open views, efforts to link a multicultural pupil's confidence tendency to wake up in the truest sense.

Abstract:
Comparison of Philosophies of Jan Ámos Komenský and René Descartes The aim of this work is comparison of philosophies of Jan Ámos Komenský and René Descartes based on their essential works, i.e."Labyrint světa a ráj srdce" (The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart) and "Úvahy o první filozofii" (Meditations on First Philosophy), in which God's existence and the difference between the human soul and body are proved. The philosophy of both contemporaries originated in the 17th century on the background of the Thirty Years' War and the Counter-Reformation. The rationalism of René Descartes, which starts Cartesian thinking, seems to be substantially different from the philosophy of Komenský based on Neoplatonism and Christianity. In the thought of Descartes analysis, mathematical operationalism, is principal, whereas Komenský synthesizes and puts the whole together. The first chapter of the thesis deals with the lives, period and works of Komenský and Descartes. It is possible to find significant similarities in their life stories. The second chapter deals with the interpretation of "The Labyrint of the World and the Paradise of the Heart" and the interpretation of "Meditations of First Philosophy", in which God's existence and the difference between the human soul and body are proved....
