Full textThis thesis propose a study of different strategies to construct subordinate clauses in Australian and Papuan languages. These two language groups, rarely found in typological studies on the subject, show some unusual morphosyntactic constructions. This study is based on ten languages: four Australian languages (Nyangumarta, Martuthunira, Wambaya and Kayardild), and six Papuan languages (Maybrat, Yimas, Manambu, Mian, Amele and Hua). Following a brief grammatical overview of these languages, the thesis examine six types of subordinate clause strategies to identify their functions and uses: subordinate clauses without segmental marking, with a conjunction, with case marking, with a specific verbal form, with a switch-reference system and with the relativization strategy. The last chapter is focused on the specific situation of complementation strategies with perception verbs. This thesis aims to illustrate how subordinate clauses function in those languages, but it also aims to show how these languages may help to re-examine general linguistic theories

_______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
For a long time, the binding of Colombian farmers with the cultivation of the poppy has been among the concerns of government institutions and non-government organizations, primarily by the failure of the policies adopted by the government to reverse this scenario. This study aimed to find answers to a series of questions that have arisen in this troubled context, particularly it was aimed to find whether the rationality to be imposed by the development strategy of the illicit drugs combat policy is compatible with the dynamics of the problem and why its actions are sustained even when their failure is evident. A case study approach on the Silvia municipality, Cauca Department, south Colombia was used as a research strategy. It was proposed to analytically extrapolate the contrasting results obtained from the field research with the theoretical reference frame: territory; habitus, symbolic violence, rationality, the "new countryside" approach to territorial development, efficiency, institutional change and public policies. The research results showed that the verified failure of the illicit drugs combat policy in Colombia, proves important inconsistencies between the rationality of policy formulators and the dynamic of the territories concerned with the phenomenon. Being this a problem which can not be simply reduced to a matter of legality or income, it is believed that the territorial approach to development is a challenge to be pursued by social movements in the territory. Within this perspective, this research represents a reflection that brings together the conflict, heterogeneity and similarities in the manifestations of the "new countryside" in the territories of Latin America, in the context of contemporary capitalism. _______________________________________________________________________________ RESUMEN

Full textIn May 1963, the Indonesian government became the official ruler of West New Guinea (known today as Irian Jaya). After ten years of diplomatic confrontation, the Dutch government left its former colony and backed down on its commitment to leading the territory to independence. In spite of the 1969 United Nations general assembly vote which made the transfer of sovereignty official, the Papuan population of West New Guinea has remained reluctant to accept the Indonesian authority. Thirty years later, due to major ethnical and cultural specificities, the Papuans have not yet been integrated into Indonesian society. They have participated in a multiform resistance movement (commonly known as OPM - organization for the Papua liberation), mixing different kinds of objectives, empirical as well as mystical. While seeking the departure of the Indonesians, they also aspire to a society of abundance and eternal life. This thesis explores two major questions : firstly it presents the identity of the Papuans and the aspirations which underlie it. Secondly, it analyses the reasons why the Indonesian government wanted the integration of West New Guinea and the way it has choosen to rule the territory ever since

Abstract Jim Papoulis [ 1961 - ] is a famous American composer and conductor. He often receives commission works from different choruses all over the world. His compositions include many different genres: symphony, choral, film, dance, blues, rock-and-roll, hip hop and reel. The composer is especially good at combining classical with jazz styles. He has composed more than six hundred pieces of choral music. Some are published and some are on their way to publication. Many choral pieces are commissioned for school students and showed positive aspects of life. Six choral pieces by Jim Papoulis that contain “light “or “hope “were chosen to be the focus of this master research. They were published by Hal Leonard publishing company, namely ;“Give Us Hope”、“We Will ”、“A Light Inside”、“Oye”、“Stand Together ”and “Stand Tall” (Kusimama). “Give Us Hope” is written for three-part treble voices and piano. It takes about three minutes to perform , the music is vivid and full of life , the time signature changes transiently, which makes the music interwoven and changeably thus enhances the degree of compactness , aside from that the swiftness of beginning and ending will make the music full of surprises . “We Will” is a piece for two-part treble chorus, including soloist or small group, and about three minutes in length. The text is in English and sometimes Swahili. The song starts with a cappella singing and later with piano and shaker. The music is full of contrast and tension, expressing much broader lines for music, in conjunction with the lyrics as though they have found the direction and target for life. “A Light Inside” is for three-part treble choir. It is roughly four minutes. The tempo of the entire song is pretty steady, and it is rich in musical nature. The score sets off a fertile musical and picturesque situation. The rhythm is rather vivid, which serves as an incessant momentum for the song. “Oye” is for three-part treble chorus, piano, and optional percussion & bass. It is nearly four minutes. The texts are in Spanish and English. The vigorous rhythm and the use of instruments clearly remind South America’s customs and cultures. The fabrication of the structure is simple yet the force is gradually increasing. The composing finesse gradually puts the music into a boisterous mood. “Stand Together” is for three-part treble chorus with optional Bodhran drum. It is about four minutes long, the song is based on a lilting tempo and gradually changes characteristics, which is quite challenging; and make this work is full of life. The use of slur lines and link lines to reveal repetitive sounds with irregular rhythms, with the use of Bodhran Drum, it shall express the contrast of comfort vs. swiftness. “Stand Tall” (Kusimama) is for two-part treble chorus, piano, and percussion (Djembe & Shaker). It is about four minutes. The text is a combination of Swahili and English. The composer hopes to expose the singers to the rhythms, to cooperate with foot stepping and hand clapping motions. The body language makes a further extension of the music. It is a creation of a unique style. This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter one is the preamble; Chapter two is the background investigation: the life of Jim Papoulis, and compositional ideal of the composer and his choral pieces. Chapter three offers the musical analysis of these six choral works. Chapter four gives suggestions to choral rehearsal techniques about these six songs. Chapter five is the conclusion of this thesis. Aside from that, there are three appendixes: Appendix one is the reading chart for Spanish alphabets; Appendix two is the reading chart for Swahili alphabets; Appendix three is the E-mails between the writer and Jim Papoulis. Keywords: Jim Papoulis, American contemporary piece for treble choir, “Give Us Hope”

This is dedicated to analyzes the reconstruction efficiency of extented Papoulis-Gerchberg algorithm (ePGA) with more information and prior knowledge in signals. The traditional ePGA usually performs signal recovery under ideal situations. In this research, AWGN is added into signal for test. By changing the initial value of the missing signal, the effective of the initial value on the signal reconstruction efficiency is also discussed, meanwhile new convergence points through ePGA is explored. After the simulation, the distribution of new convergence points; in comparison to the original signal, found to be Gaussian. Besides, we also confirm the strong correlation between noise and new convergence point.

ABSTRACT This thesis is devoted to the study of further improving the speed of convergence of Papoulis-Gerchberg (P.G.) iterative algorithm for signal reconstruction. Hsu and Lo proposed a boundary-matched algothrim, there will be significant improvement on mean square error and convergence speed of the P.G. iterative algorithm by introducing a ‘pre-process’ to the P.G. iterative algorithm. However, there is still room for improvement in the convergence rate. This study is dedicated to speed up the convergence of iteration but keen the M.S.E. level. Our first proposed approach is to adjust the low-pass band width with decreasing passed band width during the iteration for the P.G.. Finally, restore the band width. This proposed approach achieved better convergence. Since the original initialization of P.G. algorithm for the lost sample data is set to be zero. Our second proposed approach is to use the Linear Interpolation technique (approximate to be first order hold) to replace zero assumption of the initial setting. By combining the first & second approaches, a better convergence very early iterations (< 10 times) can be achieved in the simulation.
