Abstract:
“Is ḥśjw-mw ‘water conjuration’ an ‘Älteres Kompositum’? Investigations into a terminus technicus of the Egyptian lingua magica” - Starting in the Old Kingdom, depictions of the work and dangers of herdsmen, who ford cattle and ward off crocodiles with magical gestures, formed part of the motif repertoire of country life and agriculture in many commoners’ tombs. The textual counterparts of such scenes are mentioned in seven literary, magical and religious texts from the Middle Kingdom to the Graeco-Roman Period. Regardless of the unity of meaning and context, the terminus technicus denoting those conjurations directed against crocodiles is written in three essentially different ways as ḥśjw-mw (Tale of a Herdsman, Hymn to Amun in Papyrus Leiden I 350, Cairo Love Songs, a magical papyrus in Budapest, Florentine Mythological Handbook), ḥśjw-m-mw (CT 836) and śḥśjw-m-mw (Magical Papyrus Harris). When compared to graphic peculiarities of ‘Ältere Komposita’, ḥśjw-m-mw (CT 836) and śḥśjw-m-mw (Magical Papyrus Harris) can be identified as phonetic writings, and the attestation in the Tale of a Herdsman, which exhibits the peculiar insertion of a “boat” (Gardiner P.1), as an unetymological writing. Consequently, all seven tokens can be assigned to a single morphological pattern, ḥśjw-mw ‘water conjuration’, which, tentatively, can be revocalised *ḥĭśjắw-măw.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to analyze the attestations of the “beautiful day” (hrw nfr) in literary texts of the Ramesside period, which are written in the late Egyptian language, in order to develop their understanding framed by their historical and cultural context of production. Attention will be focused on the examination of the expression in the stories of The Two Brothers (Papyrus d’Orbiney), The Doomed Prince (Papyrus Harris 500) and The Contendings of Horus and Seth (Papyrus Chester Beatty I), with the general purpose of exploring the sense of their incorporation into the plots, as well as the narrative effects. Furthermore, characters and features involved in the “beautiful day” situation will be singled out. It is also expected to reflect on the comparison with other discourses, such as the funerary one.

Borges Pires, Guilherme. "Of Creator and Creation: Some Observations on the Cosmogonical Conceptions in the Stela of Suty and Hor (BM EA826), Papyrus Leiden I 350, and the Hymn to Ptah of the “Great Harris Papyrus” (BM EA9999, 44)." Abstract:
The present paper constitutes a brief preliminary approach to the cosmogonical conceptions suggested by three New Kingdom texts: the stela of Suty and Hor (BM EA826), Papyrus Leiden I 350 and the Hymn to Ptah of the “Great Harris Papyrus” (BM EA9999, 44). Taking into account and discussing the phraseological repertoire attested in these sources, an attempt is made to understand two fundamental aspects: who is the Creator and what does he create. Thus, the first part deals with the identity of the Creator, namely, his names, attributes, and core features. The second considers the different beings and cosmic elements brought into existence by the demiurgic action. Throughout the paper, some commentaries are provided on the different methods performed by the Creator to succeed in his task, in the context of the New Kingdom religion as a whole

A tanulmány Hypereidés Démosthenés ellen című beszédének szöveghagyományát tekinti át a Har- ris-Arden papirusztekercs töredékcsoportjainak bemutatásával. Gianfranco Bartolini fél évszázaddal korábban publikált átfogó elemzését egészíti ki az 1972 óta megismert adatokkal. Az előkészületben lévő Hypereidés-szövegkiadás (Bibliotheca Teubneriana) előszavának egyik, bővített fejezetét jelenti. This paper reviews the textual tradition of Hyperides’ speech Against Demosthenes by presenting fragment groups of the Harris-Arden papyrus scroll. It complements Gianfranco Bartolini’s comprehensive analysis published half a century ago with data acquired since 1972. It constitutes an extended chapter of the preface to the forthcoming Hyperides edition (Bibliotheca Teubneriana).

Abstract:
This chapter presents two examples that illustrate basic mathematical concepts used during the New Kingdom: Papyrus Harris I and Papyrus Wilbour. Papyrus Harris I is primarily a political document, documenting the relation between Ramses III and the temples of Egypt. It includes illustrations accompanied by hieroglyphic texts. The hieratic parts consist of lists of temple endowments and a brief summary of the entire reign of King Ramses III. The topic of the Wilbour papyrus is the administration of arable land, and thus this text is one of the sources one should take into account when reading the famous statement of Herodotus that geometry was invented in Egypt and then passed into Greece.

Abstract:
This chapter summarizes key discussions in chapters 9 to 15. The New Kingdom offers a variety of sources that provide insights into the uses and roles of mathematics at that time. As in previous periods, mathematics and the scribes who practiced it expertly continue to play a vital role in the administration. In order to illustrate the type and style of available sources, extracts of Papyrus Harris I and the Wilbour Papyrus have been used, both of which are as interesting as they are complex in terms of their usage of mathematical techniques and concepts. However, apart from these two outstanding papyri, it is the large number of smaller accounts written on papyri and ostraca that clearly documents the ongoing significance of administrative mathematics during the New Kingdom.

Abstract Before the continuous section (§ §1–20) of Lyk.begins must be placed three groups of fragments: those of the Harris papyrus (cols. 41–8); those of col. 1 of the Arden papyrus (before col. 2 ushers in the continuous section); and the three fragments independently preserved by Pollux (2. 152, 9. 137, 9. 156) the second and third of which, as will be seen, float free of any determinable context.

Abstract:
Abstract The Fragments of this story cover the first three pages that exist of the Harris Papyrus No. 500, where they immediately precede the Story of the Doomed Prince. Like the latter, it was discovered in 1874 by Goodwin, who took it for fragments of a historical narrative, and announced his discovery at a meeting of the Society of Biblical Archreology, March 3, 1874: Goodwin, Translation of a .fragment of an historical Narrative relating to the reign ofThotmes the Third, in the Transactions of the Society of Biblical Arch£ology, 1874, vol. iii, pp. 340-348. Wiedemann,Altagyptische Sagen und Marchen, small 8vo, Leipzig, 1906, pp. 112-117. The beginning is lost. At the point where we take up the story, there are three personages in the scene: an Egyptian officer named Thutiyi, the prince of a Syrian town and his equerry. The name of the country where the action is laid in that part of the story which is still preserved was read by Goodwin as Imu, and identified by him with the Emim of the Bible (Genesis xiv, 5, Deut. ii, 10, 11). The real form is Jopu, or according to Greek orthography Joppa. This reading has been objected to in its turn (Wiedemann,..&:gyptische Geschichte, pp.
