Abstract:
The present study details an investigation into the provision of opportunities for secondary school students to develop an understanding of visual aesthetics by manipulating a single mathematical curve: the parabola. The study documents the establishment of a robust cross-curricular relationship between Mathematics and Visual Design by providing a pedagogical model for learning that relies on the conduit between the two subject areas being explicitly linked. Although the central concept is the marriage of disparate themes, it was operationalised by the development and delivery of activities sequenced to grow appreciation and understanding of the links between unrelated curricula. While this account aims to foster cross-curricular discourse and action, the product output simultaneously provided avenues for the presentation and exhibition of student work; a gallery of which is included in the study. Documenting the inter-disciplinary approach to learning and teaching has resulted in an exploration of the complexities we employ to discover meaning in a range of contexts not singularly reliant on art or language. A convergence is presented in that mathematical rules unite with the rules of art and design in the attempt to project new concepts into new situations where a space for originality exists. Here, the students have been encouraged to imagine new, effective ways of bringing ideas to form (Richmond, 2009). Naturally, developing explicit appreciation/action situations required critical and creative thinking to coincide with lateral and literal approaches to gaining knowledge and understanding of aesthetics. The study presents a reflexive account of the delivery of coursework entitled The Possibilities of the Parabola, from concept to completion.

L’intento del presente lavoro è duplice: sottolineare come Aleksandra Ekster abbia rivestito un ruolo di trait d’union tra la nascente avanguardia russa e l’ambiente artistico francese nei primi anni ’10 del XX secolo e come l’innovativo impiego del colore, su una superficie bidimensionale come la tela e in uno spazio tridimensionale come la scena teatrale, sia la chiave di lettura privilegiata attraverso cui prendere in esame l’attività di questa poliedrica artista. La ricerca si articola in sei capitoli. I – vengono analizzati i primi esperimenti pittorici della Ekster, che risentono dell’influenza dell’arte popolare ucraina da una parte e degli studi cezanniani sul rapporto tra colore e forma dall’altra. II – ci si concentra sul primo soggiorno parigino della Ekster, dove l’artista, all’inizio respinta poiché troppo esuberante nel colore, trova una strada autonoma tra le voci del cubismo francese, ma anche del futurismo italiano. III – si cerca di porre in risalto come la Ekster interagisca con il cubo-futurismo, senza essere ascritta specificamente né all'uno né all'altro movimento. IV - si analizza come la Ekster riesca, allo scoppio della prima guerra mondiale, a dare comunque il suo originale contributo alle mostre dell'avanguardia russa, e a confrontarsi con il suprematismo di Malevič, ancora in nome del colore. V – si cerca di dimostrare come la Ekster scommetta sul colore anche nell’attività di scenografa: il colore disegna i corpi degli attori e conferisce loro dinamicità. VI – nell’ultima parte si vuole porre in evidenza come il colore abbia incontrato la fabbricazione di abiti e la propaganda: alla Ekster viene affidato il compito di veicolare il dinamismo dell’attività di propaganda attraverso le sue capacità cromatiche.

The research is about Ferdinando Martini, an Italian politician and intellectual (1841-1928). The question that has justified this research has been the attempt to understand through which ways Martini - a man of the nineteenth century and of Risorgimento as well, son of idea of Nation, of liberals and constitutional ideas - reached fascism faith despite his political and cultural roots, such far from any authoritarian propensity. Was it a sudden conversion? Was it a long durée process? Was the biographical trajectory really contradictory or not? From this question, this research has carried on looking for evidence – far and near – that allow to approach the big break, the big transition in Martini identity. On the basis of this issue, the initial questions have been generalized to the context: was it possible to identify an overall process – underground or superficial – capable of explaining the evolution, or the involution, of the Italian liberal culture and politics?
La tesi tratta di Ferdinando Martini, politico e intellettuale italiano vissuto a cavallo tra Ottocento e Novecento (1841-1928). Il lavoro si concentra attorno alle svolte dell'identità culturale e politica del personaggio: depretisiano poi zanardelliano, giolittiano poi anti giolittiano, anti crispino poi crispino, anti colonialista poi colonialista, triplicista anti francese poi anti austriaco e filo francese, letterato che sostiene necessaria l'indipendenza degli ambiti e dei ruoli della politica e dell'intellettualità e al tempo stesso politico la cui attività affonda le radici in un terreno intriso di tendenze intellettuali e culturali, infine liberal democratico di tradizioni risorgimentali poi mussoliniano e fascista. La ricerca analizza ciascuno snodo e ricompone la traiettoria globale dell'identità di Martini inserendola all'interno della più ampia storia nazionale dell'Italia liberale, nel tentativo di cogliere i processi, sotterranei e di superficie, le lunghe durate, le sopravvivenze che collegano i due estremi della storia dell'Italia liberale, il Risorgimento e il fascismo.

In this dissertation I examine the narrative parts of the so-called cornice of the Decameron. The core of my interpretation is to be found in Chapter I where I show that the frame story--the novella portante, as it has been called--with its "parabolic" rather than "rectilinear" progression is intended to illustrate the brigade's pursuit of pleasure, without any ulterior motive such as, for instance, the restructuring of the decaying Florentine society. A careful study of the members of the brigade (Chapter II) and of their songs (Chapter III) obviously forms an integral part of any analysis of the frame story. The Appendix deals with the illustrations of the cornice: the rich iconographic tradition of the Decameron, at least before this century, appears to have accorded more significance to the frame story than has literary criticism.

Abstract:
A spherometer is often used to precisely measure the radius of curvature of a spherical surface. It can also measure the vertex radius of a more complex surface such as an off-axis parabola (OAP). This paper provides a reliable algorithm to find the vertex radius of an OAP by solving a few equations based on the test geometry. This algorithm can also be easily expanded to any conic surface with high-order aspheric coefficients. The algorithm was verified by measuring an 8-inch diameter OAP and comparing the results with its known prescription. Results show good agreement. An example of measuring the vertex radius of a 4-m diameter OAP is also presented. In addition to this, a calculation was done to show that the coma and astigmatism are independent of the clocking of the spherometer on the optic. “Der Untergang des Abendlandes” di Oswald Spengler segna un passaggio fondamentale nella storia del conservatorismo tedesco. Iniziata agli albori della prima guerra mondiale, per molti intellettuali tedeschi un'occasione di rinascita culturale e di emancipazione da ideali liberali, la filosofia della storia spengleriana rielabora i 'valori morali' bellici per ergerli a dogma in un futuro ordine politico-sociale, il 'Cesarismo'. Come già avevano fatto grandi personalità politiche quali Machiavelli, Federico il Grande o lo stesso Bismarck, Spengler si serve dello strumento dell'analogia per determinare il prossimo futuro dell'occidente, e, individuando molteplici similitudine tra il suo tempo e l'Impero Romano, ne deduce che esso - nonostante gli insuccessi appena riportati nello scontro bellico - si evolverà a favore di una nuova ascesa imperialistica tedesca. Questa visione spengleriana trova grande eco tra numerosi intellettuali di destra nella Repubblica di Weimar. Anche se questa oggi vale come un eccezionale esempio per i governi democratici del secondo dopoguerra, in quegli anni viene percepita da molti come un'istanza estranea, frutto della più umiliante sconfitta mondiale. La destra conservatrice, tra i cui nomi erge quello di Ernst Jünger, si impegna ora nell'elaborazione di un'alternativa nazionale, a cui l'intera 'Volksgemeinschaft' deve contribuire. In questo scritto verranno quindi affiancati i due scrittori, Spengler e Jünger, per capire in che misura il secondo fu influenzato dalle idee estetico-politiche dell'”Untergang des Abendlandes”.

Abstract:
This research work delineates the parabola of the fascist squads, from the period preceding the March on Rome until the central years of the regime, with some in-depht analyses up to 1945. The initial purpose is, therefore, to study how such an important phenomenon could have an influence not only in the period before the advent of fascism but also in the following years, playing a fundamental role in politics and in the evolution of the regime. The first part of the dissertation is aimed to analyze how fascist squads represented a new political style, both before and after the March on Rome, and how their use of violence, which was voluntarily employed and done to people, became a value with an end in itself as well as a terrorist instrument systematically used to kill enemies and to achieve power. The intimidating and terrorist potential that “squadrismo” could display helped to reinforce the fascist power and, at the same time, it allowed Mussolini to appear as a leader ready to normalize the situation. However, very often, the repression was only put on for show and this is evidence for Mussolini’s desire to maintain his relations with such loyal and stubborn, though quarrelsome and sometimes embarrassing, comrades. The members of the fascist squads are therefore leading characters in the consolidation of the fascist government during the first years after the March on Rome. The second part of the dissertation seeks to examine how the experience of the squads could achieve important political results and influence the lives of some diehard members and their social conduct. It was subsequently demonstrated how the attitudes and practices of the squads fitted in with the different political circumstances, by means of some exemplar biographies, such as those of fervent members like Arconovaldo Bonacorsi, Onorio Onori. The biographies of other specific social categories such as martyrs, dead and crazy people were also useful on this regard. The collective practice of violence represented a fundamental experience which was able to shape behaviours and attitudes lasting for a long time, but it also turned into efficient social strategies useful to the regime. In the final part the personal experiences are put together with the political context in order to emphasize the difficult and contradictory intertwining within the needs of the fascist regime and the long-lasting attitudes and behaviours of the squads. To do so, a new point of view has been chosen: the internal perspective belonging to the members of the squads who were interned by the police. These documents have been used only seldom, but they revealed highly interesting to detect the dynamics and the relations between squads and political hierarchies, and also to investigate the depictions and self-representations they gave of each other, from crimination to exaltation. If it is true that squads represented the «essence» of fascism, their study can be useful to analyse the whole parabola of the black shirts’ regime from a different perspective, in which squads represent a filter to investigate the evolution, contradictions and complexities of this period.
La ricerca delinea una parabola del fenomeno dello squadrismo dalla fase antecedente alla Marcia su Roma fino agli anni centrali del regime fascista, con alcuni approfondimenti fino al 1945. L’ipotesi di partenza è dunque quella di analizzare come un fenomeno così importante durante la vigilia si sia riflesso anche negli anni successivi alla presa del potere, giocando un ruolo centrale nella politica e nell’evoluzione del regime fascista. Una prima parte della tesi è volta all’analisi di come – sia prima sia dopo la Marcia su Roma – lo squadrismo abbia rappresentato uno stile politico nuovo, nel quale il ricorso alla violenza volutamente ricercata e perpetrata è divenuto un valore fine a se stesso e, al tempo stesso, uno strumento terroristico programmaticamente volto all’eliminazione sistematica dell’avversario e alla conquista del potere. Il potenziale intimidatorio e terroristico che lo squadrismo è in grado di dispiegare si rivela funzionale a rafforzare il potere fascista, permettendo al contempo a Mussolini di presentarsi quale volenteroso normalizzatore; resta il fatto che molto spesso la repressione è solo di facciata e mette in luce la volontà di non privarsi di camerati fedeli e intransigenti, per quanto riottosi e talvolta imbarazzanti. Gli squadristi sono pertanto dei protagonisti di primo piano del consolidamento del governo fascista nei primi anni del dopo-marcia. Una seconda parte della ricerca cerca di analizzare come l’esperienza fondante della militanza squadrista sia stata capace, non solo di ottenere importanti risultati politici, ma anche di influenzare la vita di alcuni squadristi integrali e le loro strategie sociali. Attraverso lo studio di alcune biografie esemplari di squadristi integrali (Arconovaldo Bonacorsi, Onorio Onori) o di categorie sociali specifiche (i martiri, i morti e i pazzi) è possibile analizzare come mentalità e pratiche squadriste di adattino, alle diverse contingenze politiche. La pratica comunitaria della violenza ha rappresentato un’esperienza fondante capace di plasmare stili comportamentali e mentalità che hanno mantenuto una lunga durata, trasformandosi in strategie sociali efficaci e, nel contempo, utili al regime. Infine si è cercato di far dialogare le esperienze personali con il contesto politico e mettendo in risalto il rapporto – talvolta aspro e contraddittorio – tra le esigenze del regime e la lunga durata di mentalità e comportamenti squadristi. Per farlo si è scelto di adottare un punto di vista per certi versi nuovo, cioè quello degli squadristi inviati al confino di polizia. Si tratta di materiale documentario finora usato soltanto in rare occasioni ma che, a mio avviso, si è rivelato di grande interesse nel permettere di ricostruire le dinamiche e le relazioni tra squadristi e gerarchie politiche, ma anche le reciproche rappresentazioni e auto-rappresentazioni, tra criminalizzazione ed esaltazione. Se lo squadrismo ha rappresentato l’«essenza» del fascismo, allora, studiarne l’evoluzione, le contraddizioni, le complessità, attraverso il filtro interpretativo dello squadrismo può rivelarsi utile per analizzare sotto una prospettiva diversa l’intera parabola del regime delle camicie nere.

It is presented a solar cooker made with a parabolic reflector composed by a composite material. For this purpose, it was utilized a cast concrete with a parabolic profile obtained by means of modeling. It will be demonstrated the manufacturing process and settings, as well as tests results, in order to determine the contact temperature and cooking time of some foods. This solar cooker presents the following main characteristics: the concentration method, low cost and easy manufacturing process. It was performed by employing recycled materials such as cement, plaster, crushed polystyrene and wheels. The captation area measures 1 square meter and its parabole was covered with a mirrors measuring 25 cm2. A temperature higher than 650?C was obtained. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that the cooking viability for several type of foods such as beans, potatoes, rice, yams and pasta can be used in two meals for a family of four. In addition, the advantages of this cooker were analysed in comparison with others described in literature as well as those operating on gas. Especially in Northeast of Brazil, where there is a potential for solar energy, this prototype is an important tool, because it avoids not only desertification, but also pollutants from burning firewoods which cause ecological imbalance

O fog?o solar a concentra??o tem como principal caracter?stica seu custo baixo, sendo produzidos a partir de uma composi??o de materiais reutiliz?veis, como cimento, gesso e EPS triturado e pneus. Apresenta ?rea de capta??o de 1,0 metro quadrado e sua par?bola foi coberto com segmentos de espelhos de 25 cm?. As principais carracter?sticas do fog?o solar ? concentra??o propostas s?o seus f?ceis processos de fabrica??o, montagem e seu baixo custo. Obteve-se temperatura de foco superioor a 650?C. Demonstrou-se a viabilidade de coc??o desse fog?o solar para v?rios tipo de alimentos como feij?o, batata, arroz, inhame e macarr?o e podendo ser usado em duas refei??es para uma fam?lia de quatro pessoas. Abstract:
Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope (formerly known as Advanced Technology Solar Telescope) will be the largest optical solar telescope ever built to provide greatly improved image, spatial and spectral resolution and to collect sufficient light flux of Sun. To meet the requirements of the telescope the design adopted a 4m aperture off-axis parabolic primary mirror with challenging specifications of the surface quality including the surface figure, irregularity and BRDF. The mirror has been completed at the College of Optical Sciences in the University of Arizona and it meets every aspect of requirement with margin. In fact this mirror may be the smoothest large mirror ever made. This paper presents the detail fabrication process and metrology applied to the mirror from the grinding to finish, that include extremely stable hydraulic support, IR and Visible deflectometry, Interferometry and Computer Controlled fabrication process developed at the University of Arizona.

Scopo della tesi è presentare una piccola panoramica sulle coniche incentrata principalmente sui contenuti proposti nella scuola superiore: definizioni delle coniche come luoghi geometrici, alcune proprietà elementari, le loro equazioni canoniche, un esempio dei problemi proposti sui testi e applicazioni extra-geometriche. Successivamente sono presentate altre proprietà più specialistiche: similitudine ed eccentricità, classificazione affine e classificazione proiettiva delle coniche, per mostrare come questo argomento per essere affrontato in modo più vasto richieda nozioni che solitamente non fanno parte dei programmi della scuola superiore: similitudini, affinità, trasformazioni proiettive, matrici e loro rango, autovalori ed autovettori, forme quadratiche. Sono inoltre presentate alcune costruzioni realizzate con l’ausilio del software Geogebra, ormai diffuso in molte scuole, che riunisce in una sola pagina grafica sia il piano euclideo, tipico della "Geometria dinamica", sia il piano cartesiano su cui tracciare i grafici di funzioni, ed equazioni di coniche.

O presente trabalho apresenta um estudo analítico/comparativo do conto “A volta do marido pródigo”, extraído da obra Sagarana, de Guimarães Rosa com a Parábola do Filho Pródigo, encontrada no Novo Testamento, narrada em Lucas 15.11-32, comparando-o, formal tematicamente, fato que revela seu caráter intertextual. Propõe-se neste estudo uma reflexão acerca da relevância da análise da Bíblia tanto para o seu próprio conhecimento literário quanto para a constatação da mesma como referência consagrada para muitas obras que se tornaram marcos na literatura ocidental, como é o caso do conto selecionado neste trabalho, que configura uma expressão artística de um gênero discursivo pouco estudado na atualidade, que pode se constituir em uma ferramenta muito útil no processo de ensino/aprendizado. This essay presents a comparative analytical study of the short story A volta do marido pródigo from the book Sagarana, written by Guimarães Rosa, with the Prodigal Son parable, found in the New Testament, in Luke 15:11-32, comparing it formally and thematically with, which reveals its intertextual aspect. This study proposes a reflection on the relevance of the Bible analysis for both its own literary knowledge and it as a great reference for many works that have become memorable marks in Western literature, such as the short story selected in this work, which sets an artistic expression of a little studied genre that may constitute a useful tool in teaching and learning. Questa tesi si inserisce nel campo di ricerca in Didattica della Fisica. In particolare, il lavoro si colloca all’interno del progetto Erasmus+ IDENTITIES, avviato nel settembre 2019, in collaborzione con le università di Montpellier, Creta, Parma e Barcellona. IDENTITIES ha lo scopo di sviluppare moduli didattici interdisciplinari (fisica – matematica – informatica), rivolti ai futuri insegnanti. I moduli riguardano sia temi curricolari sia temi STEM come contesto in cui sviluppare competenze interdisciplinari e progettare nuovi modelli di co-teaching. I temi di IDENTITIES hanno ispirato e guidato l’attuazione di un corso rivolto a insegnanti di scuola secondaria di secondo grado, organizzato dal PLS di Fisica di Bologna assieme al PLS di Matematica e il POT di Bologna. Il corso, svoltosi tra novembre e dicembre 2019 ha rappresentato la principale fonte di materiale e di riflessioni per questo lavoro. L’obiettivo di questa tesi è contribuire al progetto tramite la creazione di un’attività didattica, rivolta ai futuri insegnanti, sul tema della parabola e del moto parabolico. L’attività è stata progettata con lo scopo di guidare attraverso i principali passaggi che hanno caratterizzato, da un punto di vista epistemologico, l’evoluzione del pensiero fisico dalla teoria sul moto del proiettile di Tartaglia fino alla dimostrazione della traiettoria parabolica del proiettile di Galileo. Nella tesi sono descritti il quadro teorico di base per il lavoro, la rielaborazione del materiale del corso PLS per costruire lenti per l’analisi dei libri di testo, l’analisi di un capitolo del libro di testo sulla cinematica bidimensionale e la conseguente progettazione dell’attività didattica. Nelle conclusioni sono discussi i principali risultati ottenuti, tra i quali la produzione delle griglie originali per l’analisi di libri di testo, l’individuazione della simmetria e dell’indipendenza dei moti come attivatori epistemologici e la produzione dell’attività.

O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido com a finalidade de orientar e aprimorar o estudo da Função Quadrática em uma turma de alunos do primeiro ano do Ensino Médio de uma escola pública estadual da cidade de Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. Nessa escola, a maioria dos alunos finaliza o estudo teórico da função sem relacioná-la a elementos práticos do cotidiano. Todavia, depreende-se que tal vínculo facilite o processo de aprendizagem. Consequentemente, desenvolver-se-á uma proposta de ensino que, além de trabalhar a abordagem teórica, dimensionará o estudo um pouco mais na prática, proporcionando aos alunos vislumbre e entendimento sobre as Parábolas em seu dia-a-dia. Assim, baseando-se nos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais, o plano de ensino proposto apresentará uma abordagem histórica, a descrição formal do tema estudado e a sua contextualização. Desse modo, espera-se que os alunos compreendam-no de forma significativa e consigam solucionar de maneira eficiente as situações problemas determinadas pelo gráfico de uma Função Quadrática. Contudo, esta proposta não possui a intenção de ser norteadora no ensino das Parábolas, ainda que apresente um caminho possível para fazer com que o ensino e a aprendizagem dessas curvas tenha mais significado para os discentes.
This paper was developed in order to guide and enhance the study of Quadratic Function in a class of first-year high school students at a public school in the city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. At that school, most students finish the theoretical study of the function without relating it to practical elements of daily life. However, it infers that such a link facilitates the learning process. Consequently, it will be developed a proposal of teaching that, in addition to accomplish the theoretical approach, it will dimension the study a little more in practice, providing glimpse and understanding of the Parabolas in the students’ day-to-day. Thus, based on the National Curriculum Standards, the teaching plan will present a historical approach, the formal description of the topic in question and its contextualization. Therefore, it is expected that students can significantly understand it and that they can be able to find efficiently solution to the situations problems determined by the graph of a Quadratic Function. However, this proposal does not intend to be a guide in teaching of Parabolas, although it suggests a possible way to establish the teaching and learning of these curves more meaningful for students.

Determining arch perimeter is of importance in both a clinical setting, where it is used to determine space requirements, as well as in an epidemiological setting where it is used to describe large populations. Physical measurement of arch perimeter is time consuming and may be prone to operator errors when done on study casts and even more so in a clinical situation. The use of a simple mathematical model to predict arch perimeter, using a few measurements that can be done easily and reliably, would be of great use to the practitioner.

In this dissertation we will cover the study of conic sections: ellipse, hyperbola and parabola. This subject is quite rarely addressed in high school books. We therefore propose an approach that favors the development of students’ ability to algebraically classify, geometrically compare, and understand the constructions in a simple and pleasant way. We atempt address the subject in a detailed and rigorous manner, telling the historical development, talking about its applications, and classifing the conic sections through the reduced equations. Starting from the general equation of conic sections, we discuss the role of rotation and translation processes that lead the general classification of conic sections. Since the aim of this work is to be a comprehensive source for teachers and students interested in the subject, we also present a way to classify the conic sections using definitions and theorems from linear algebra, enabling the reader to choose between methods and taking him to realize that Analytical Geometry and Linear Álgebra complement theirselves. For the sake of strenghtening the intuition on this process we will use some features of the mathematical software Geogebra.
Neste trabalho de conclusão de curso abordaremos o estudo das seções cônicas: elipse, hipérbole e a parábola. Tal assunto é muito pouco abordado nos livros de ensino médio. Por isso propomos uma abordagem ao tema que favoreça o desenvolvimento da habilidade dos alunos em classificar algebricamente, comparar geometricamente, e entender as construções de forma simples e prazerosa. Abordaremos o assunto de forma detalhada e rigorosa, contaremos a parte histórica, suas aplicações, classificaremos as cônicas através das equações reduzidas. Partindo da equação geral das cônicas discutimos a natureza dos processos de rotação e translação que levam a classificação geral das cônicas. Como o objetivo deste trabalho é ser fonte de referência aos professores e estudantes que se interessam pelo tema, apresentaremos também uma forma de classificar as cônicas usando definições e teoremas da Álgebra Linear, possibilitando ao leitor escolher qual método utilizar e levá-lo a perceber que a Geometria Analítica e a Álgebra Linear se complementam. E, para enriquecer a intuição à este processo utilizaremos alguns recursos do software matemático Geogebra.

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo desenvolver uma proposta de ensino em matemática para alunos do ensino médio. O conteúdo abordado na proposta são gráficos de funções, em especial, o gráfico da função quadrática: a parábola. A necessidade de um maior rigor matemático na explicação da justificativa do gráfico da função quadrática ser uma parábola fez com que desenvolvêssemos uma proposta de roteiro de aula com explicações e definições matemáticas mais rigorosas em relação as que são apresentadas atualmente nos livros didáticos. Utilizamos de cálculos algébricos para as demonstrações e também fizemos uso de um material prático, um quadro branco onde nele temos acoplado um esquadro, e com uso de pinos, barbante e pincel para quadro branco conseguimos traçar a parábola levando em conta sua propriedade. O material prático auxilia na explicação bem como exemplifica visualmente o que queremos mostrar com os cálculos algébricos. A proposta foi apresentada aos alunos de duas escolas, uma pública estadual e outra privada, que leciono no município de Viçosa - MG e também foi apresentada a seis professores de matemática, colegas de trabalho, sendo cinco destes professores de escolas públicas estaduais, municipais e privadas do município de Viçosa - MG e um professor de escola pública estadual do município de Teixeiras - MG.
The present work aims to develop a teaching proposal in mathematics for high school students. The content addressed in the proposal are graphs of functions, especially the graph of the quadratic function: the parabola. The need for greater mathematical rigor in explaining the justification of the quadratic function graph to be a parable has led us to develop a lesson plan proposal with more rigorous mathematical explanations and definitions than are currently presented in textbooks. We used algebraic calculations for the demonstrations and also made use of a practical material, a white board where we have attached a square, and with the use of pins, string and whiteboard brush we can draw the parable taking into account its property. The practical material helps in the explanation as well as visually exemplifies what we want to show with the algebraic calculations. The proposal was presented to the students of two schools, one state public and the other private, which I teach in the city of Viçosa - MG and was also presented to six mathematics teachers, co-workers, five of these teachers from state, municipal and state public schools. private schools of the municipality of Viçosa - MG and a teacher of a state public school in the municipality of Teixeiras - MG.

This work was carried out to help teachers and students of high school in the study of geometric gures known as ellipse, parabola and hyperbola obtained through the cone section. We will present how the main characters in the story in uenced the ndings. We will demonstrate the respective canonical (reduced) equations of each of the gures as well as the general equation. We will present some of the applications o ered by these structures emphasizing the importance of studying this theme.
Este trabalho foi realizado para auxiliar professores e alunos do ensino médio no estudo das guras geométricas conhecidas como elipse, parábola e hipérbole obtidas através da secção do cone. Apresentaremos como os principais personagens da história in uenciaram nas descobertas relativas ao conteúdo. Demonstraremos as respectivas equações canônicas (reduzidas) de cada uma das guras bem como a equação geral para a obtenção dessas estruturas. Apresentaremos algumas das as aplicações oferecidas por estas estruturas ressaltando a importância do estudo deste tema.

Este trabalho sobre funções quadráticas, destina-se a colaborar de forma contextualizada, com o estudo da função quadrática, desde sua parte histórica, passando pela equação quadrática, inequações quadráticas, sua representação gráfica, sua caracterização, contextualização através de problemas, resgatando a construção da parábola com régua e compasso e de forma atual, utilizando o GeoGebra. Mostramos também a utilização da propriedade refletora da parábola em diversas situações, bem como uma explicação geométrica para o fato. Espera-se que seja um instrumento colaborativo na construção do conhecimento e que seja principalmente, de fácil entendimento.
This work about quadratic functions is intended to collaborate in context with the study of the quadratic function from its historical part, passing by quadratic equation, quadratic inequalities, its graphic representation, its characterization, contextualization through problems, rescuing construction the parabola with ruler and compass, and current form using GeoGebra. Also we show the use of the reflective parabola property in several situations, as well as, a geometric explanation for the fact. It is expected to be a collaborative tool in the construction of knowledge and it is especially easy to understand.

У Докторској дисертацији је извршена методичкa трансформација садржа-ја  аналитичке  геометрије,  у  наставном  систему– настава  уз  помоћрачунара,  адекватним  избором  садржаја,  израдом  одговарајућихгенеричких органи-затора уз коришћење образовног софтвераGeoGebra иMathematica. Обрађен је дидактички систем настава уз помоћ рачунара,анализом међусобне зависности фактора наставе, анализом дидактичкихпринципа,  класификацијом  и  приказом  наставних  метода,  уз  подесноформиране  генеричке  организаторе.  Експериментално  истраживање  јепотврдило могућност примене наставе уз помоћ рачунара, као и позитиванутицај на реализацију циљева и задатака, на укупан образовни учинак иподизање нивоа ефикасности савремене наставе.
U Doktorskoj disertaciji je izvršena metodička transformacija sadrža-ja  analitičke  geometrije,  u  nastavnom  sistemu– nastava  uz  pomoćračunara,  adekvatnim  izborom  sadržaja,  izradom  odgovarajućihgeneričkih organi-zatora uz korišćenje obrazovnog softveraGeoGebra iMathematica. Obrađen je didaktički sistem nastava uz pomoć računara,analizom međusobne zavisnosti faktora nastave, analizom didaktičkihprincipa,  klasifikacijom  i  prikazom  nastavnih  metoda,  uz  podesnoformirane  generičke  organizatore.  Eksperimentalno  istraživanje  jepotvrdilo mogućnost primene nastave uz pomoć računara, kao i pozitivanuticaj na realizaciju ciljeva i zadataka, na ukupan obrazovni učinak ipodizanje nivoa efikasnosti savremene nastave.
In this doctoral dissertation, methodical transformation of content analyticgeometry, is carried out, in the educational system - a computer-assistedteaching, by appropriate selection of content, making appropriate genericorganizers using educational software GeoGebra and Mathematica.Didactic teaching system, computer-assisted teaching, was processed, byanalyzing the factors of teaching and didactic principles, classification andpresentation of teaching methods, with the adequately created genericorganizers. Experimental research has confirmed the apossibility ofcomputer-assisted teaching, as well as a positive impact on the realizationof goals and tasks, on the overall educational impact and raising theefficiency of modern teaching.

Lo scopo principale di questa tesi è quello di fornire vari approcci didattici all'introduzione delle coniche, sia per scuole superiori che per l'università. Verranno studiate le coniche da un punto di vista storico e quindi come sezioni di un cono, analizzando e approfondendo proposizioni e definizioni tratte da Apollonio nel suo libro "Le Coniche" in cui compaiono le proprietà di tali curve, le quasi verranno successivamente studiate nel linguaggio della moderna geometria analitica. Dall'approccio storico si passa poi ad un approccio che usa la teoria generale delle curve algebriche piane (sia dal punto di vista affine che proiettivo), per poi andare a classificare le coniche sempre da un punto di vista affine, proiettivo ed euclideo. Si studieranno, infine le coniche inviluppo. Queste ultime verranno trattate sia geometricamente (attraverso il software di geometria dinamica: "GeoGebra") che analiticamente creando un collegamento tra la geometria e l'analisi in un modo nuovo e visuale.

In the rst part of this work, we present all conical with their cartesian equations and their graphs. Then, we made an approach to concepts of linear algebra, vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors in order to build matrices of linear transformations able to rotate, translate or even make these conical shear. Constructed matrices, GeoGebra software for constructing graphs obtained by transformation matrices were used. Besides this geometric part, we discuss the quadratic forms in order to identify a conic analyzing only the coe cients of its quadratic form and the eigenvalues. The end result was an excellent visual material built from software GeoGebra applying the concepts of Linear Algebra. We can not fail to mention that the construction of the taper in GeoGebra techniques that replace the ruler, compass and the string used by the ancient Greeks were implemented.
Na primeira parte desse trabalho, apresentamos todas as cônicas com suas respectivas equações cartesianas e seus respectivos grá cos. Em seguida, zemos uma abordagem de conceitos de Álgebra Linear, espaços vetoriais, transformações lineares, autovalores e autovetores a m de, construir as matrizes de transformações lineares capazes de rotacionar, transladar ou até fazer o cisalhamento destas cônicas. Construídas as matrizes, foi utilizado o software GeoGebra para a construção dos grá cos obtidos pelas matrizes de transformação. Além dessa parte geométrica, abordamos as formas quadráticas no intuito de identi car uma cônica analisando apenas os coe cientes da sua forma quadrática e os autovalores associados. O resultado nal foi um excelente material visual construído a partir do software GeoGebra aplicando os conceitos de Álgebra Linear. Não podemos deixar de citar que foram implementadas técnicas de construção das cônicas no GeoGebra que substituem a régua, o compasso e o barbante utilizados pelos gregos antigos.

Ao contrário da catenária, o estudo da parábola é encontrado com freqüência nos livros didáticos de matemática. Dois livros didáticos foram analisados para esta pesquisa: o livro de Olavo Freire de 1894, que associa o formato do cabo pênsil ao de uma parábola, e o livro da década de 1970 de Osvaldo Sangiorgi, que relaciona à figura de um balanço a forma de uma parábola. Notamos que esses livros didáticos com oitenta anos de diferença usam a corda suspensa para representar a forma parabólica. Como o formato de um cabo suspenso pelas extremidades sob a ação do seu próprio peso é representado pela catenária, sentimo-nos motivados a pesquisar sobre as curvas e entender por quais delas, afinal, o cabo da ponte pênsil é mais bem representado. Visto que essa dúvida surgiu a partir de livros didáticos, discorremos sobre a função do livro de matemática, na sala de aula, como indicadores do ensino da matemática, de um determinado local, dentro de determinado contexto histórico-político. No decorrer da história da matemática, houve confusão entre essas duas curvas, a qual motivou o estudo da catenária a partir do século XVII. Essa fase da história é conhecida como época das curvas, e em 1600, por Huygens, que se iniciaram seus estudos. Examinamos as curvas catenária e parábola no âmbito da educação e da história da matemática, bem como suas propriedades e aplicações práticas no âmbito da engenharia de pontes pênseis e na arquitetura. Amparamo-nos em leituras específicas de construção e história de algumas pontes pênseis e chegamos a visitar a Ponte Estaiada em São Paulo ainda em edificação, para entendermos como os engenheiros utilizam as propriedades das curvas catenária e parábola em sua construção. Os resultados revelaram que, surpreendentemente, o exemplo adotado no livro de Olavo Freire para representar uma parábola não levou em consideração o que acontece na prática da engenharia das pontes pênseis, e o ressurgimento do exemplo do balanço no livro de Osvaldo Sangiorgi, pareceu reforçar a tese de que havia, sim, certa confusão entre as duas curvas. Utilizando o software gráfico Winplot, construímos as curvas catenária e parábola e pudemos visualizar as diferenças ou similaridades entre elas. Finalizando, comprovamos algebricamente a aproximação entre as curvas catenária e parábola e a definição de parábola no ponto de vista da engenharia.
Unlike the catenary, the study of the parabola is often found in textbooks of Mathematics. Two textbooks were analyzed for this research: the book of Olavo Freire, 1894, which combines the format of the cable suspended to a parabola, and the book of the decade of 1970 of Osvaldo Sangiorgi, which relates to the figure of a stock as a parabola. Note that these textbooks with eighty years of difference used the rope suspended to represent the parabolic shape. As the format of a cable suspended by the extremities under the action of its own weight is the catenary, we felt motivated to search on the curves and understand how, after all, the cable of the suspension bridge is best represented. Since this question came from textbooks, we studied the basis of the book of Mathematics in the classroom, as indicators of teaching Mathematics in a given location, within a certain historical and political context. Throughout the history of Mathematics, there was confusion between these two curves, which led the study of catenary from the seventeenth century. This phase of history is known as the curves season, and in 1600, by Huygens, who started their studies. We have audited the catenary curves and parabola in education and the history of Mathematics, and its properties and practical applications in the Engineering of suspension bridges and architecture. Supported us in specific readings of history and construction of some suspension bridges and even payed a visit to the bridge Estaiada in Sao Paulo which is still under construction, to understand how the engineers use the properties of the catenary curves and parabola in its construction. The results showed that, surprisingly, the example used in the book of Olavo Freire to represent a parabola did not bring into account what happens in the practice of Engineering of the suspension bridges, and the resurgence of the example of the balance sheet in the book of Osvaldo Sangiorgi seemed to strengthen the argument that there was some confusion between the two curves. Using the software chart Winplot, the catenary and parabola curves were built and we could visualize the differences or similarities between them. At last, using algebra we proved the rapprochement between the catenary curves and definition of parabola in terms of Engineering.

This work presents a new extension for Uniform Marker Field, which is able to detect UMF on the cylinder. First part of the text deals with Augmented reality and focuses on systems using markers. It discusses the actual state-of-the-art systems and its possibilities. After that it focuses more deeply on the marker system Uniform marker field and its grayscale variants. Next part of the work describes properties of the cylinder projected in real space. Important properties for detecting are discussed in detail. Then the proposal and description of detection algorithm is presented. Implementation of algorithm is tested and evaluated on the very end of this thesis.

É comum realizarmos revisões de conteúdos com os alunos com o objetivo de sanar dúvidas e consolidar conceitos. Neste trabalho, apresentamos a Geometria do Taxista, uma geometria que difere da Geometria Euclidiana na maneira de medir as distâncias. Pela proximidade com a Geometria Euclidiana, propusemos cinco atividades que possibilitarão a apresentação desse conteúdo, a revisão e a consolidação de muitos temas abordados nos diversos anos que antecedem o ensino superior. Esperamos que este trabalho contribua para o aprendizado de alunos e professores.
It¿s a quite usual practice to review some mathematics topics on the middle and, mainly, high school, several times in order to consolidate math¿s fundamental concepts among the students. In the present work, we present the Taxicab Geometry, a geometry which differs from the usual Euclidean Geometry on the way one can measure distances. Due to the close relationship with the Euclidean Geometry, we propose some activities that provide us a nice revision and consolidation exercise on several geometric and algebraic topics relevant to undergraduate students aspirants. We deeply hope that this work can contribute someway to the teachers¿ and students¿ learning process.

Abstract:
The so-called “Fabulae” written by Odo of Cheriton (1180/90-1246/47) owe their traditional title to Hervieux’s edition published in 1896, still used as a reference. This work aims at providing the reader with a new edition based on an accurate philological inquiry into the text and its manuscripts. If the literary features of Odo’s fables have, indeed, been studied, especially in regard to their innovative elements, such as their christianized morals and the relationship of the tales to preaching, the collection has not been studied from a philological point of view. Before this research there was no clarity in regard to the total number of tales, which varied in previous editions between 60 and 117, nor to the determination and inner divisions of the corpus; moreover, all previous editions are based on only one manuscript or little more. As a matter of fact, Hervieux basically published a codex optimus that he only occasionally emended – but did not declare where he operated basing the correction on other manuscripts and where he did so ope ingenii – which is Cambridge, Corpus Christi College, 441; other editions are the ones done by Voigt (1878), Oesterley (1868 and 1871) and Perry (1952). Voigt is the only one to study the relationship between codices, although only between a small portion of them (11); Oesterley uses only one manuscript in both his editions (although the two are different between one another) and Perry only publishes a selection of the tales present in Hervieux, adding an apparatus which informs the reader on variantes available in the already existing studies, but not conducting a new research himself. Other issues of Odo’s status queastionis are the absence of a comprehensive study of his works, all unpublished apart from 65 of his “Sermones dominicales” (Paris, 1520) and the tales themselves, the lack of a census and, concerning the fables, of a systematic analysis of the whole collection. This situation prevents from making extensive comparisons and evaluations of the author’s usus scribendi, which is why the first purpose of this dissertation was a general introduction that could account for the main literary features shared by the whole collection. Starting from a short contextualization of Odo’s biography and his other works, we looked into the prologue of the tales, that heavily references the Sacred Scriptures and relies on the allegorical method proper to exegesis, which is strongly stressed, even more so than the usage of Aesopical tales in the collection, although as important. Secondly, the title itself has been questioned: even if the collection is usually called “Fabulae”, the manuscripts never offer this lectio, which is instead Hervieux’s arbitrary choice. In the prologue, Odo talks of his work not as fabulae, but instead as a tractatus parabolicus: if one is to give the collection a proper title, then, the latter one must be used, although there is no evidence of a specific rubric redacted by Odo to be used as a title. One of the new discoveries made in this research is then the refusal of the title currently used and the clarification of another ambiguity derived by Hervieux’s edition. As a matter of fact, the French scholar not only arbitrary called the tales “Fabulae”, but also decide to publish some excerpta from Odo’s sermons under the title “Parabulae”. He did so by isolating these extracts from ms. Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, lat. 16506, thus creating a significant confusion in subsequent research trying to address the two texts: even nowadays it is quite hard to understand if a catalog is, for example, talking about the tale collection or the sermons. During this research, it was discovered that some extracts on fables topics from the sermons actually circulated throughout the Middle Ages, as nine manuscripts who hold them included them into bigger exempla collections; nonetheless, these exceerpta never constituted an independent work, and the only tale collection produced by Odo is the one that should more properly be called tractatus parabolicus. Moreover, the introduction includes a short analysis of the main literary features of the text, with a particular attention given to the mixing up of the fable and exemplum genres in Odo’s work, as he used for every one of his stories the allegorical method proper to biblical exegesis. The aim of such an introduction is to be a first step into a deeper and more complex analysis of Odo’s works as a whole, an accomplishment that, however, will inevitably need wider studies dedicated also to the other books he wrote in order to be completed. In regard to the tale collection, particularly developed is its social and religious critique, which Odo wanted to express in his allegory-rich and heavily christianized morals. This critique is addressed especially against ecclesiastical hierarchies – not the Church itself, but its people – but not only those; it is against all who abuse their subjects when in a position to exercise power over others. Odo thus condemns not only bishops, ministers and prelates who only worry about earthly matters and fall short of their responsibilities, indulging in vices instead, but also rich masters and rulers who vex their subjects. However, Odo’s attack does not spare the humbles too, who are criticized when they try to improve their social standing and thus forget their place, or who are more generally guilty, as anyone, of the seven deadly sins, of lack in faith or of conducting themselves not virtuously enough. It can be easily noticed, then, that Odo had a strong drive towards contributing to reforming his contemporary society, whose morals felt in need of a deep renovation. Lastly, the introduction addresses shortly the success of Odo’s collection, which was translated into vernacular three times (into Gaelic, Chwedlau Odo, into Old-French, Les Parables Maystre Oe de Cyrintime, into old Spanish, Libro de los gatos); apart from these works, it must also be mentioned that Odo probably influenced Nicole Bozon, John of Sheppey and maybe, Clemente Sánchez, Stephan of Bourbon and the Speculum laicorum as well. After the analysis of the main literary features of the collection, the research proceeded with the production of a new, updated census of the manuscripts transmitting the Tractatus parabolicus. Seventy-one codices have been found, in comparison to Hervieux’s twenty-five and to other ten that had already been identified by previous bibliography (see Dicke-Grubmüller 1987 and Welter 1927). Thanks to this recensio we were also able to investigate the definition itself of Odo’s corpus, a topic made quite complex by the constitutive mobility of the fable genre in the Middle Ages. As a matter of fact, it is quite common for the author and text identity to be easily and almost immediately lost in this genre, also due to the easy addition or elimination of some of the apologues due to different motivations, that vary also from manuscript to manuscript. Since tales were often included into bigger collections that took on from various sources, it is extremely difficult to determine the original corpus. Moreover, in Odo’s case the matter is even more complicated due to a sometimes ambiguous internal division of tales, once again partially depending on Hervieux’s choices, partially on the tradition itself. As a matter of fact, Hervieux chose to number the tales not progressively, but by sometimes adding letters onto numbers, especially when he thought that two consequent tales revolved around the same topic. One then finds, for example, tales 56, 56a, 56b, 56c, which Hervieux separated in his edition but which should instead considered as only one fable; conversely, tales 1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d e 1e are on one hand independent ones (1, 1a, 1c, 1e), on the other the result of corruptions of the tradition (1b, 1d). At the same time, manuscripts sometimes don’t distinguish clearly between Odo’s tales, fusing some together or dividing others in peculiar ways, so a degree of uncertainty is to be found not only in the history of studies, but also in the tradition itself. Another accomplishment of this dissertation is thus precisely giving a new, clearer definition of the corpus, not only in regard to its internal divisions, based upon the manuscript tradition, but also to their number and the identification of spurious fables, such as 76, 1b and 1d. Starting from the new recensio, the dissertation then proceed onto the philological and textual analysis of the collection, with the hope of tracing a stemma codicum. We thus selected thirty-six manuscripts according to their antiquity, place of origin (with a predilection for England) and portion of the text transmitted, into which some loci critici that cover around one-third of the work were identified. Unfortunately, though, manuscripts present a lot of different variantes, but not of stemmatical importance: they are often lectiones adiaphorae and/or small differences in the order of words, alteration of conjunctions, verbal tenses and so on. It was then not possible to trace a proper stemma, but we still tried to account for the different features of the tradition. Five different orders in the transmission of the collection were found, which seem to present themselves also when studying the text of the loci critici. Apart from one (δ, linked to order D and to one manuscript of the order A), it is improper to talk about families, but it is only possible to group the non fragmentary codices – we intend with the expression “fragmentary codices” all those manuscripts that only transmit a maximum of ten tales, generally dispersed within the codex itself, which usually collects materials from different sources – based upon quite uniform geographical areas. That is to say that there seem to be a link between almost all German manuscripts and one Italian one (Wo, order B), between the bohemian and eastern-European codices (order C), between some English manuscripts and two French ones (order E), whereas the majority of the English codices (plus two German, one Austrian, one bohemian and two French) share order A. The five orders that can be identified in most of the tradition seem to have also a textual foundation, although only δ features proper errors. Once the philological inquiry, conducted on a wide portion of the textual witnesses, was completed, the impossibility of a stemma made necessary to conduct the edition based on different criteria. We have thus relied first of all on the most ancient manuscripts, dating back to the 13th century; in order to balance the fact that all of them, apart from C1, do not transmit tales 61-75, we have chosen to add to this number two German codices (B5 Ba), considering that the German group is the only one to hold this portion of the text as well, and another English manuscript, Du, in order to better represent the tradition. The critical edition thus follows a conservative approach, that mostly relies to C1, quite close to the author, but corrects its mistakes by integrating its testimony first of all with B2 C2 L4 O2 V, the most ancient manuscripts, and then B5 Ba Du, as already stated. For the portion of the text collated for the loci all the thirty-six manuscripts used in the collection itself were also included. The critical apparatus thus concerns nine codices for the whole text, thirty-six for the loci. Lastly, the edition also provides the first Italian translation of Odo’s fables and a small paragraph that, tale by tale, reminds the reader of the witnesses of the text and of other retellings available in a selection of other medieval Latin fabulists, apart from references to the principal repertoires of the genre. To sum up, this dissertation had as its purpose not only trying to account for the main literary features of the Odo’s fables collection, even if, of course, in a limited way, but also studying this work from a philological and textual point of view. We thus tried to offer a wide as possible exam of the tradition, although very complex, proposing then a new critical edition of the text that tries to overcome Hervieux’s, so as to give the reader the tools needed to approach a text as solid ad possible. We wish that, in the future, similar endeavors will be conducted for all of Odo’s works.

The aim of the workshop is to present and discuss several ideas which relate to technology as well as to creative teaching. Educational experience, common sense and educational research have all proven how important for comprehensive understanding different cognitive representations are. We will present and discuss several elementary mathematical ideas of which mechanical realisations mean ingenius technological inventions (for example: ‘car differential’ and ‘digital sound technology’). Technological insights can provide deep intuitive understanding of otherwise abstract mathematical concepts and therefore yield also better comprehension of mathematics. Besides that we will use and present the technology in the form of dynamic geometry programs to show, provoke and motivate rethinking and deeper understanding of several elementary mathematical concepts.

Many consumer products, such as within the computer areas, computer graphics, digital signal processing, communication systems, robotics, navigation, astrophysics, fluid physics, etc. are searching for high computational performance as a consequence of increasingly more advanced algorithms in these applications. Until recently the down scaling of the hardware technology has been able to fulfill these higher demands from the more advanced algorithms with higher clock rates on the chips. This that the development of hardware technology performance has stagnated has moved the interest more over to implementation of algorithms in hardware. Especially within wireless communication the desire for higher transmission rates has increased the interest for algorithm implementation methodologies. The scope of this thesis is mainly on the developed methodology of parabolic synthesis. The parabolic synthesis methodology is a methodology for implementing approximations of unary functions in hardware. The methodology is described with the criteria's that have to be fulfilled to perform an approximation on a unary function. The hardware architecture of the methodology is described and to this a special hardware that performs the squaring operation. The outcome of the presented research is a novel methodology for implementing approximations of unary functions such as trigonometric functions, logarithmic functions, as well as square root and division functions etc. The architecture of the processing part automatically gives a high degree of parallelism. The methodology is founded on operations that are simple to implement in hardware such as addition, shifts, multiplication, contributes to that the implementation in hardware is simple to perform. The hardware architecture is characterized by a high degree of parallelism that gives a short critical path and fast computation. The structure of the methodology will also assure an area efficient hardware implementation.

Dabei taucht eine neue Klasse von Algebren auf, die in gewisser Weise als Interpolation zwischen der pro-p Iwahori-Heckealgebra einer p-adischen reduktiven Gruppe $G$ und derjenigen einer Leviuntergruppe $M$ von $G$ gedacht werden kann. Für diese Algebren wird ein Induktionsfunktor definiert und eine Transitivitätseigenschaft bewiesen. Dies liefert einen neuen Beweis für die Transitivität der parabolischen Induktion für Moduln über der pro-p Iwahori-Heckealgebra. Ferner wird eine Funktion auf einer parabolischen Untergruppe untersucht, die als Werte nur p-Potenzen annimmt. Es wird gezeigt, dass sie eine Funktion auf der (pro-p) Iwahori-Weylgruppe von $M$ definiert, und dass die so definierte Funktion monoton steigend bzgl. der Bruhat-Ordnung ist und einen Vergleich der Längenfunktionen zwischen der Iwahori-Weylgruppe von $M$ und derjenigen der Iwahori-Weylgruppe von $G$ erlaubt. Für den Beweis des Zerlegungssatzes wird vorausgesetzt, dass die gewählte parabolische Untergruppe in einer nichtstumpfen enthalten ist. Des Weiteren werden die nichtstumpfen parabolischen Untergruppen von $G$ klassifiziert.
The first part deals with a new construction of parabolic induction for modules over the pro-p Iwahori-Hecke algebra. This construction exhibits a new class of algebras that can be thought of as an interpolation between the pro-p Iwahori-Hecke algebra of a p-adic reductive group $G$ and the corresponding algebra of a Levi subgroup $M$ of $G$. For these algebras we define a new induction functor and prove a transitivity property. This gives a new proof of the transitivity of parabolic induction for modules over the pro-p Iwahori-Hecke algebra. Further, a function on a parabolic subgroup with p-power values is studied. We show that it induces a function on the (pro-p) Iwahori-Weyl group of $M$, that it is monotonically increasing with respect to the Bruhat order, and that it allows to compare the length function on the Iwahori-Weyl group of $M$ with the one on the Iwahori-Weyl group of $G$. In the second part a general decomposition theorem for polynomials over the spherical (parahoric) Hecke algebra of a p-adic reductive group $G$ is proved. The proof requires that the chosen parabolic subgroup is contained in a non-obtuse one. Moreover, we give a classification of non-obtuse parabolic subgroups of $G$.

Depuis la traduction grecque des Septante, le livre biblique Michlé est traduit par « Livre des Proverbes ». Or, dans la tradition herméneutique juive, la signification correcte n’est pas « proverbes » mais « paraboles ». Ce choix de signification modifie le contenu de l’ensemble du livre, puisqu’il invite à lire et à interpréter ses assertions dans un tout autre horizon que la perspective reçue depuis la Septante. Il fallait donc traduire le texte hébraïque de Michlé sur de nouvelles bases, en suivant l’herméneutique talmudique et midrachique, reprise et développée à l’époque médiévale par les commentateurs, les philosophes et les grammairiens juifs. Nous proposons ainsi une traduction nouvelle, accompagnée de commentaires et de notes philologiques qui explorent « les » sens du texte hébreu en fonction de ses strates métaphoriques et allégoriques, et en déploient le contenu. Cette traduction est précédée d’une longue introduction qui permet de comprendre les prémisses de l’herméneutique juive ; et s’efforce de déchiffrer les processus littéraires et historiques qui en empêchent l’accès, et engendrent les malentendus dont Michlé est un exemple crucial. Il importait encore de faire le point sur l’état actuel de la traduction des textes bibliques, tant du point de vue des travaux réalisés en France que du point de vue des impératifs internes de la tradition hébraïque. Une part importante de l’introduction est donc aussi consacrée aux problèmes méthodologiques particuliers à la traduction des écrits bibliques ; et à l’esquisse d’une démarche dont la traduction de Michlé est la mise en pratique
Since the Greek Septuagint, the biblical book Mishlei is translated "Book of Proverbs". But in the Jewish hermeneutic tradition, the correct translation is "parables". This new meaning changes the meaning of the whole book. It was therefore necessary to translate the Hebrew text of Mishlei on a new basis, following the Talmudic and midrashic hermeneutics, extended and developed in medieval times by commentators, philosophers and Jewish grammarians. Thus, we propose a new translation, with commentary and philological notes that explore the meanings of the Hebrew text including its metaphorical and allegorical layers. This translation is preceded by a long introduction devoted to locate the premises of Jewish hermeneutics, and to understand the literary and historical proces that prevent access, and create misunderstandings which Mishlei is a crucial example. An important part of the introduction is also devoted to methodological problems of translation of biblical writings

L’objectif de ces travaux de thèse de doctorat est de développer des modèles simplifiés d’impact hydrodynamique sur le pont mouillé d’un SWATH pour la maintenance des éoliennes offshore. La connaissance des chargements hydrodynamiques auxquels est soumis le pont mouillé est une étape primordiale lors de la conception de l’étrave du navire. Pour réaliser cette étude nous avons choisi une géométrie bidimensionnelle parabolique symbolisant le pont mouillé et une houle d’Airy régulière pour la surface libre. Les modèles développés reposent sur le modèle de Wagner qui permet d’obtenir des résultats pertinents pour un faible temps de calcul. Deux types de modèles d’impact ont été développés. Des modèles dits asymptotiques car ils reposent sur un développement de Taylor du profil de houle et des modèles non-asymptotiques car ils conservent la forme complète de la houle. Les distributions de pression sur le profil parabolique sont majoritairement calculées au moyen du formalisme Modified Logvinovich Model (MLM). Les résultats en termes de corrections de surface mouillée, de champs de pression et d’efforts hydrodynamiques sont comparés entre les deux types de modèles en fonction du rayon de courbure de la houle. Nous déterminons aussi quel est la configuration d’impact qui engendre les chargements hydrodynamiques dimensionnants en se basant sur des configurations de référence. Pour les modèles non-asymptotiques, la contribution de l’amplitude et de la vitesse de phase de la houle au sein des efforts hydrodynamiques est analysée. Pour les modèles asymptotiques, nous avons réalisé l’étude des variations spatiales et temporelles des champs de pression calculés avec l’équation de Bernoulli linéarisée. Nous avons aussi comparée les résultats du formalisme composite (COMP) au formalisme MLM et leurs conséquences sur les efforts hydrodynamiques d’impact. Enfin, dans le but d’avoir une base de comparaison pour ces modèles d’impact sur houle d’Airy régulière, nous avons implémenté des modèles numériques d’impact au moyen du logiciel commercial ABAQUS/CAE. Ces modèles reposent sur un couplage CEL (Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian) et ont montré une bonne correspondance avec les résultats des modèles non-asymptotiques en termes d’écarts relatifs. Au sein d’un bureau d’étude, l’intégralité de ces résultats peut constituer une aide au dimensionnement du pont mouillé d’un navire SWATH
The aim of this PhD thesis is to develop simplified models about hydrodynamic impact (slamming) on the wet deck of a SWATH vessel for the maintenance of offshore wind turbines. The knowledge of the hydrodynamic loadings that the wet deck is subjected is an essential step in the design of the vessel’s bow. To realise this study we chose a parabolic twodimensional geometry which symbolises the wet deck and a regular Airy wave for the moving free surface. The models developed are based on the Wagner theory which provides relevant results for a low computational time. Two types of impact models have been developed. So-called asymptotic models, because they use a Taylor expansion of the wave profil and non-asymptotic models because they retain the whole shape of the wave. The pressure distributions on the parabolic shape are mainly calculated by the Modified Logvinovich Model (MLM). The results in terms of wetted corrections, pressure fields and hydrodynamic loadings are compared between the two types of models as a function of the wave radius of curvature We also determine the hydrodynamic impact arrangement which produces the highest hydrodynamic loadings by using reference configurations. For non-asymptotic models, the contribution of wave amplitude and phase velocity within hydrodynamic loadings is analysed in details. For non-asymptotic models, we made the study of the spatial and time variations of pressure fields computed with the linearized Bernoulli equation. We also compared the results of composite theory (COMP) to MLM theory and their consequences on hydrodynamic loadings. Finally, in order to get a basis of comparison for these regular Airy wave impact models, we implemented a numerical model using ABAQUS/CAE software. This model is based on a Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) coupling and show good matching with the results of non-asymptotic models in terms of relative errors. In a design office, all those results can be used to help design of the wet deck of a SWATH vessel

Abstract:
The Magellan radar imager detected approximately 60 dark (i.e. low backscatter cross section) parabola-shaped features on the surface of Venus; each parabola is oriented with the open end toward the west and envelopes an impact crater near its "focus." In this thesis, I use a model of parabola formation to fit the 58 Venusian parabolas observed to date, as well as 9 circular features that are similar to the parabolas. I achieve good results for ∼65% of the 41 parabolas that meet the conditions for the model to apply. As a result of modeling the parabolas, I derive a quantitative description of the distribution of small (∼1 cm to ∼1 μm in diameter) impact ejecta over a planetary surface. My results agree well with the distribution of fine impact ejecta derived for the Terrestrial impact crater Chicxulub. In addition, these results lead to a method for estimating the quantity of fine-grained material available on Venus for surface transport processes such as saltation.

In this thesis we calculate the parabolic Chern character of a bundle with locally abelian parabolic structure on a smooth strict normal crossings divisor, using the definition in terms of Deligne-Mumford stacks. We obtain explicit formulas for ch_1, ch_2 and ch_3, and verify that these correspond to the formulas given by Borne for ch_1 and Mochizuki for ch_2. The second part of the thesis we take D subset in X is a curve with multiple points in a surface, a parabolic bundle defined on (X, D) away from the singularities can be extended in several ways to a parabolic bundle on a resolution of singularities. We investigate the possible parabolic Chern classes for these extensions.
