This study seeks to explore the paradox of Schizoid-self, which is split, fluid and in a constant flux, since it is situated in the interstitial space of gender and spirituality in Uzma Aslam Khan’s The Geometry of God (2008). The present study aims to yoke together Postmodernist implicit dangers of centrelessness, divergence, fragmentation, and chaos on a central pivot to bring resolution, harmony, and reunion in both distinct and shared human experiences. This research employs Postmodernist notions of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari (1972/1977) about Schizoid-self and further juxtaposes in

Hintikka has said this about questions: ‘The questioner asks his listener to supply a certain item of information, to make him know a certain thing’.1 Now this certainly seems to capture our intuitions about one kind of enquiry, a kind which I call market-place enquiry. That is, it seems to capture the speaker's aims when, in typical situations, he addresses a question to another person. But there are many uses of interrogative sentences, even some questioning uses, which Hintikka's account will not fit. AbstractThis paper examines a previously identified but so far imprecisely defined split in the historical phonology of Resígaro (Arawakan). I argue that this development was a simple case of allophonic redistribution or primary split, in which word-final allophones of *a merged with ɯ. However, comparative data offers no evidence for the existence of ɯ before the operation of the split in question. This apparent paradox can be resolved by the plausible hypothesis that ɯ entered the language via the massive influx of morphemes from Bora, an unrelated language of the Bora-Muinane family. Only a

Each stage is described by specific Lorentz transformations that obey certain boundary conditions related to the reversion of motion. I argue that the key to resolving the paradox lies in a mechanism of pronunciation of lower copies motivated by PF considerations, similar to the one proposed in Franks (1998) and Bošković (2001, 2002). Abstract:
AbstractIn this chapter, we unpack the complex politics of popular music education (PME) in schools through an examination of the ways in which youth and youth culture are represented in the Finnish National Core Curricula (2004 and 2014). Interrogating commonly held conceptualizations of diversity in music education, we identify a paradox in school-based PME which, on the one hand, aims toward democratic classroom practice yet, on the other, neglects diversity by approaching youth as a homogenous group. Challenging common analytical points of departure in PME research, we argue that scholars and educators need to recognize the multiple and intersecting identities of students if PME is to afford them equal opportunities for participation. Overall, we suggest that through the analytical lens of intersectionality, PME may be better positioned to take into account students’ own experiences of inequalities, providing new perspectives on diversity at the policy level. Thus, intersectionality could provide a useful analytical frame in the process of furthering further democratic practice in the classroom.

Abstract:
This chapter examines Friedrich Hölderlin's Sophocles “Notes.” Hölderlin's “Notes” to Oedipus the Tyrant and Antigone pursue two primary aims: on the one hand, they delineate the differences between ancient and modern poetry; on the other, they seek to define “the tragic” as it is manifested in Sophocles' works. The first task, in essence, goes back to the Querelle and its “revival” in the 1790s, while the second is uniquely idealist, though powerfully mediated by Aristotle's Poetics. Religious and historical conceptions form the link between the two aims. Both aims invoke the dynamic interchange of ancient and modern suggested in Hölderlin's letters and his concept of translation. The addition of notes to the Sophocles translation allows Hölderlin to make these dynamics explicit, and to advocate for a new approach to ancient poetry among his contemporaries.

Highly industrialized services add value to a company, but at the same time they can destroy it, should an almost identical proposal be made to two different clients who are seeking different experiences. The analysis of human subjectivity shows that the interaction with services goes beyond its mere use, as it is related to human beings’ search for meaning, and it can potentially become a part of its users’ biography and identity. The present chapter compiles some of the models that can contribute to getting over the paradox of service industrialization and which are here divided into two types: those that allow for a deep knowledge of the customer and those that are based upon designing experiences as a value proposition. The present chapter also suggests a research agenda that aims to get over the paradox of service industrialization.

‘Constrict theories’ are those theories whereby a law of nature resolves the Grandfather Paradox. This chapter introduces two such positions: the Chronology Protection Conjecture (whereby the laws rule out time travel) and Novikov’s Principle of Self-Consistency (which says that time travel is possible but that the laws of nature will ensure that there are no paradoxes). This chapter argues that because the Grandfather Paradox is a thought experiment, and aims to conclude something about metaphysical possibility, these theories are irrelevant. The chapter ends by discussing whether we should reinterpret the Grandfather Paradox as arguing for time travel’s physical impossibility instead.

Heisenberg was an ‘anti-realist’. Although Bohr was infamously obscure in many of his writings, it seems that he adopted a generally anti-realist interpretation, too. As their debate became more bitter, in early June 1927 Pauli was called in to mediate. With Pauli’s help, they forged an uneasy consensus, which became known as the Copenhagen interpretation. Einstein didn’t like it at all, setting the stage for a great debate about the quantum representation of reality. Although von Neumann’s formalism broadly conforms to the Copenhagen interpretation, he saw no need to introduce an arbitrary split between the classical and quantum worlds. But eliminating the split poses the problem of quantum measurement: when scaled to classical dimensions, a superposition of different measurement outcomes appears contrary to our experience, exemplified by the famous paradox of Schrödinger’s cat. Von Neumann was obliged to break the infinite regress by postulating the ‘collapse of the wavefunction’.

Within the collaborative research centre 666 “Integral Sheet Metal Design with Higher Order Bifurcations” the innovative manufacturing technologies linear flow-splitting and linear bend-splitting are researched that allow the continuous production of multi-chambered steel profiles in integral style. The massive forming processes create an ultra-fine grained microstructure in the forming area that is characterized by an increased hardness and lower surface roughness compared to as received material. These properties predestine the technology to be used in the production of linear guides. Additi

Fourier descriptor based path synthesis algorithms rely on harmonic decomposition of four-bar loop closure equation to split the design space into smaller subsets. The core of the methodology depends on calculation and fitting of Fourier descriptors. However, a uniform time parametrization is assumed in existing literature. This paper aims to explore the use of non-uniform time parametrization of input data and calculation of an optimal parametrization. Additionally, design-centric constraints have been proposed to give user enhanced control over coupler speed. As a result, this work improves

Abstract:
Beside strain intensity, stress triaxiality (pressure-stress states) is the most important factor to control initiation of ductile fracture in chip segmentation through affecting the loading capacity and strain to failure. The effect of stress triaxiality on failure strain is usually assessed by dynamic Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) or quasi-static tests of tension, compression, torsion, and shear. However, the stress triaxialities produced by these tests are considerably different from those in high speed machining of titanium alloys where adiabatic shear bands (ASB) are associated with

From design perspective, structural modification including material modification and geometry modification in a brake system is the most common approach in reducing the brake squeal. Research of this paper will focus on the modification of the largest noise-generating part in motorcycle’s brake system-the circular disc rotor, based on an existing product available in Taiwan. To reach the best geometry design of a circular disc rotor for specific vibration reduction criteria, parametric studies will be carried out in understanding effects of two evenly distributed modifications in the disc — th
