Abstract:
A new method of identifying parameters of nonlinearly vibrating system in frequency domain is presented in this paper. The problems of parameter identification of the nonlinear dynamic system with nonlinear elastic force or nonlinear damping force are discussed. In the method, the mathematic model of parameter identification is frequency response function. Firstly, by means of perturbation method the frequency response function of weakly nonlinear vibration system is derived. Next, a parameter transformation is made and the frequency response function becomes a linear function of the new parameters. Then, based on this function and with the least square method, physical parameters of the system are identified. Finally, the applicability of the proposed technique is confirmed by numerical simulation.

Abstract:
The problem of estimating item parameters from a two-parameter normal ogive model is considered. Gibbs sampling (Gelfand & Smith, 1990) is used to simulate draws from the joint posterior distribution of the ability and item parameters. This method gives marginal posterior density estimates for any parameter of interest; these density estimates can be used to judge the accuracy of normal approximations based on maximum likelihood estimates. This simulation technique is illustrated using data from a mathematics placement exam.

The paper presents the methodic for analytical determining of stress-strain state of a beam partially supported on elastic foundation at sudden damage of foundation structure (partial failure). Bending equation for a beam is written using dimensional parameter and solved with the initial parameters method. Such approach allows to obtain dimensional analytical solution to static and dynamic problems for universal boundary conditions of a beam since it always leads to equations’ system of second order. Using numerical analysis for various values of generalized stiffness parameter of a system “beam - foundation”, we established affecting of the length of failure foundation part to stress-strain state of the beam for two supporting variants: partial supporting and supporting by two ends with foundation failure in the middle part of the beam.

Abstract:
Abstract Hydrological models are simplified imitations of natural and man-made water systems, and because of this simplification, always deal with inherent uncertainty. To develop more rigorous modeling procedures and to provide more reliable results, it is inevitable to consider and estimate this uncertainty. Although there are different approaches in the literature to assess the parametric uncertainty of hydrological models, their structures and results have rarely been compared systematically. In this research, two different approaches to analyze parametric uncertainty, namely direct and inverse methods are compared and contrasted. While the direct method employs a sampling simulation procedure to generate posterior distributions of parameters, the inverse method utilizes an optimization-based approach to optimize parameter sets of an interval-based hydrological model. Two different hydrological models and case studies are employed, and the models are set by two distinct mathematical operations of interval mathematics. Findings of this research show that while the choice of the interval mathematic method can affect the final results, generally, the inverse method cannot be counted on as a reliable tool to analyze the parametric uncertainty of hydrological models, and the direct method provides more accurate results.

Abstract:
This article investigates the magnetohydrodynamic squeezing flow of nanofluid between parallel disks. Governing partial differential equations are converted into ordinary differential system via similarity transformations. We employ homotopy analysis method (HAM) to construct analytic expressions of velocity, temperature and nanoparticles volume fraction. Convergence analysis is performed and optimal values of the convergence-control parameters are determined. The computations are validated with the built in routine for solving nonlinear boundary value problems via shooting technique through software Mathematica 8.0. The behaviors of key parameters such as suction/blowing parameter (A), squeeze parameter (S), Hartman number (M), Brownian motion parameter (Nb) and thermophoresis parameter (Nt) are thoroughly examined. It is seen that the parameters have a great impact on the concentration field for the suction flow when compared with the blowing case. An intensification in the Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects results in the appreciable increase in the temperature and nanoparticles concentration.

The parameter setting of the power system stabilizer (PSS) is very important. This paper presents a PSS for wind power generation. We describe a method of simulation for PSS based on MATLAB Simulink, and research that how to build the mathematic model and get the parameters that are fitted to the real power plant generator Excitation System and PSS used the Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS), then builds the model on RTDS, and does the simulated testing. It is shown that this PSS can significantly influence the contribution that a wind farm can make to network damping. The optimal parameters of PSS can be obtained quickly through the approach of parameter optimization and it is a high efficiency and practicable parameter setting method. Performance capabilities superior to those provided by synchronous generation with automatic voltage regulator and PSS control are demonstrated.

For the nonliear and uncertainty parameters of the running driving component of Resonant cement-road breaking vehicle (RCRBV), the mathematic model of the speed Control is established, a adaptive backstepping control method based upon the dynamic recurrent fuzzy neural networks (DRFNN) is presented. The adaptive backstepping controlling arithmetic is designed firstly in transportational status without regard to the uncertain parameters. The convergence based on Lyapunov theory for the closed loop system is also analysised. secondly, the uncertain parameters of the Electro-hydraulic propotional system which affect the running speed controlling performances are defined as items to be estimated by DRFNN in breaking status to meet the high precision and stability requires, the parameter adjustment law is given based upon DRFNN. Finally, the results of the simulation show that the scheme is robust with respect to plant parameter variations and load disturbances.

A method which can process flight test data by integrating parameter identification and non-dimensional flight dynamic model was proposed to acquire the effective aerodynamic parameters of a helicopter. First of all, a non-dimensional mathematic model considering flight dynamics was deduced for a helicopter in state of level flight, and some important parameters including aerodynamic and correctional were developed. Next, taking helicopter Z-9× for example, the least squares method was adopted to identify these parameters based actual flight test data. Lastly, the identification method was proved valid through feasibility analysis. Results show that this method is a good way to acquire aerodynamic parameters and can shorten flight test periods as well.

The enzymatic membrane bioreactor (EMB), which is a combination of a membrane separation process and an enzymatic reaction, is increasingly applied in food and agriculture fields. This article reviews the previous literatures of this topic, and particularly focuses on mathemaitc models which simulate the EMB system behavior and factors restricting EMB performances. The article consists of three parts. The first sector discusses mathematic models of EMB which are mostly derived from Michaelis-Menten equation, Fick’s diffusion law, chemical equilibrium and material balance, and affecting factors whose interactions are revealed by response surface methodology, in order to optimize the parameters of EMB. The second section summarizes the reaction characters of EMB. Finally, the future research areas of EMB are proposed.

A mathematical model for the effects of chemical reaction and heat generation/absorption on unsteady laminar free convective flow with heat and mass transfer over an incompressible viscous fluid past a vertical permeable cone with nonuniform surface temperatureTw'(x)=T∞'+axnand concentrationCw'(x)=C∞'+bxmis considered here. The dimensionless governing boundary layer equations of the flow that are transient, coupled, and nonlinear partial differential equations are solved by an efficient, accurate, and unconditionally stable finite difference scheme of Crank-Nicholson type. The velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles have been studied for various parameters, namely, chemical reaction parameterλ, the heat generation and absorption parameterΔ, Schmidt number Sc, Prandtl numberPr, buoyancy ratio parameterN, surface temperature power law exponentn, and surface concentration power law exponentm. The local as well as average skin friction, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number are discussed and analyzed graphically. The present results are compared with available results in open literature and are found to be in excellent agreement.

Abstract:
Our paper is consecrated to show the influence of variable fluid properties in EMHD non-Newtonian power-law fluid along a moving Riga plate. Slip velocity phenomenon is considered at the surface which is convectively heated. Entropy analysis is elaborated employing thermodynamic second relation. The governing nonlinear PDEs are altered into ODEs through adequate propinquity transformations which have been solved numerically via the shooting method with the fourth-order Runge–Kutta algorithm through Mathematica software (bvp4c). Characteristics of different basic parameters on velocity, temperature, entropy generation and Bejan number are highlighted through graphs. The outcomes exhibit that the minimum entropy rate in the flow system can be obtained either with rising viscosity parameter and slip parameter or declining dimensionless parameter and thermal conductivity parameter. The entropy rate is minimal for dilatant fluid when compared to pseudo plastic fluid with the most governing parameters. Contrast behavior on the thermal field is noticed for larger values of viscosity parameter and thermal conductivity parameter.

A Haken-Lorentz equation with self-feedback light field as well as its stability condition were gained through a series of mathematic process, and the stability judgements of the equation under 6 groups of parameters were gained using the stability condition, then a MATLAB simulation was carried out on the equation and the movement orbits of the equation were gained. It shows that when the stability condition gives a stable judgement, the movement orbit in the mathematic simulation is a single helix ends in a stable point, which shows that the simulation results are stable too; when the stability condition gives an unstable judgement, the movement orbits in the mathematic simulation are two chaotic helixes, which shows that the simulation results are unstable too. The judgements which result from the stability condition are consistent with the MATLAB simulation judgements, which shows that this stability condition can be a criterion of the Haken-Lorentz equation with self-feedback light field in some parameter ranges.

This study aims to determine the item response theory model which is more accurate in estimating students' mathematical abilities. The models compared in this study are Multiple Choice Model and Three-Parameter Logistic Model. Data used in this study are the responses of a mathematical test of 1704 eighth-grade junior high school students from six schools in the Depok City, West Java. The Sampling is done by using a purposive random sampling technique. The mathematics test used for research data collection consisted of 30 multiple choice format items. After the data is obtained, Research hypotheses were tested using the variance test method (F-test) to find out which model is more accurate in estimating ability parameters. The results showed that Fvalue is obtained 1.089, and Ftable is 1.087, the value of Fvalue > Ftable, so it concluded that Ho rejected. That means Multiple Choice Model is more accurate than Three-Parameter Logistic Model in estimating the parameters of students' mathematical abilities. This makes the Multiple-Choice Model a recommended model for estimating mathematical ability in MC item format tests, especially in the field of mathematics and other fields that have similar characteristics.

In order to achieve the precision and efficient processing of nanocomposite ceramics, the ultrasound-aided electrolytic in process dressing method was proposed. But how to realize grinding parameter optimization, that is, the maximum processing efficiency, on the premise of the assurance of best workpiece quality is a problem that needs to be solved urgently. Firstly, this research investigated the influence of grinding parameters on material removal rate and critical ductile depth, and their mathematic models based on the existing models were developed to simulate the material removal process. Then, on the basis of parameter sensitivity analysis based on partial derivative, the sensitivity models of material removal rates on grinding parameter were established and computed quantitatively by MATLAB, and the key grinding parameter for optimal grinding process was found. Finally, the theoretical analyses were verified by experiments: the material removal rate increases with the increase of grinding parameters, including grinding depth (ap), axial feeding speed (fa), workpiece speed (Vw), and wheel speed (Vs); the parameter sensitivity of material removal rate was in a descending order asap>fa>Vw>Vs; the most sensitive parameter (ap) was optimized and it was found that the better machining result has been obtained whenapwas about 3.73 μm.

Abstract:
In this, study we present the data for 2D Axial Next Nearest Neighbor Ising model (ANNNI-model) obtained from Monte Carlo (MC) simulations using the standard Metropolis algorithm. The temperature dependences of thermodynamic parameters for a cubic lattice with linear sizes L=32 at different values of the competing interaction parameter |J1/J|=0.1÷1.0. Transition temperatures of ferromagnetic ordering to the paramagnetic state at |J1/J|<0.3 and to the modulated state at 0.3<|J1/J|<0.5 are shown to shift towards low temperatures with an increase in a competing interaction parameter absolute value. Conversely, transition temperatures of the modulate state to the paramagnetic ordering grow. The modulated ordering in the 2D ANNNImodel appears in the temperature range 0.1<T<2.0 at 0.2<|J1/J|≤1.0. Modulated structure parameters are computed using a mathematic apparatus of Fourier transform spectral analysis. According to the Fourier analysis results, the wave number grows with an increase in the competing interaction parameter absolute value. Summarizing obtained results, we plot a phase diagram of 2D anisotropic Ising model with competing interactions.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to address the entropy analysis of the 3D flow of Maxwell nanofluid containing gyrotactic microorganism in the presence of homogeneous–heterogeneous reactions with improved heat conduction and mass diffusion models over a stretched surface. Improved models are supported out by utilizing Cattaneo–Christov heat flux and generalized Fick’s law, respectively. Design/methodology/approach Governing equations which present the given flow phenomenon are modeled in the form of PDEs by applying boundary layer analysis and then suitable makeovers are engaged to transfigure prevailing partial differential equations into a set of ordinary differential equations. Transformed equations are handled via optimal homotopy analysis process in computational tool Mathematica and also a special case of already published work is substantiated and found to be in excellent settlement. Findings The bearing of innumerable convoluted physical parameters on velocity, temperature, concentration, reaction rate, the concentration of motile microorganism and entropy generation are presented and deliberated through graphs. Moreover, the convergence of the homotopic solution is presented in tabular form which confirms the reliability of the proposed scheme. It is perceived that mounting values of the magnetic parameter and Brinkman number boosts the irreversibility analysis and Bejan number diminishes for these parameters. Moreover, the growing values of Prandtl and Schmidt numbers reduce the temperature and concentration fields, respectively. Practical implications The work contained in this paper has applications in a different industry. Originality/value The work contained in this paper is original work and it is good for the researcher in the field of applied mathematics.

A new set of spiral formulas is introduced as a new member of the spiral formulas’ family, people with interest in mathematics and natural spirals may use the new spiral formulas to simulate natural spiral objects or generate their own spirals. The new formulas are derived from a proposed new hypothesis called Rotating Two Arm Sprinkler Emission model (ROTASE) for the formation of spiral galaxies. In this paper, the derivation of the new spiral formulas is illustrated with boats moving across a circular river from central round island. The formulas have only one parameter and one variable, the parameter can change with time in any format, the morphology of the spiral is decided by the behavior of the parameter. 4 real spiral galaxies are precisely simulated shown as examples. It is demonstrated in this paper that the new spiral formulas can be also applied to simulate Earth natural objects such as plants, animals and hurricanes which have spiral patterns. The result shows that the new formulas seem more universal spiral formulas which can produce various different spirals patterns, can be applied to architecture, artworks and industry design. The new spiral formulas will be a new addition to the family of current mathematic spiral formulas.
