Parametric design has been perceived as a highly sophisticated set of procedures requiring complex specialized softwares, making its introduction as part of undergraduate architectural education difficult. The aim of this study is to explore the possibility of introducing parametric thinking to novice architectural design students, using a purpose-designed non-CAD method. After a detailed lecture, students were asked to use the method to perform a design task based on parametric design principles and inspired by elements from vernacular architecture. Students’ feedback was obtained in regard t

Nature is an essential source of inspiration for designers with the variety of biological and complex organic forms it includes. Such a variation is difficult to capture with conventional design methods. Knowledge of advanced digital tools and parametric modeling, in particular, is crucial for finding a new way to solve design problems and help with creativity and innovation in design. The present research has stressed the importance of parametric modeling use in designing interior architecture, and fostering designers' innovation to come up with innovative and unconventional ideas and activit

Examining the relationship between humans and the natural world and the effects of interaction between them has deep roots in our understanding of society and culture. Cities, therefore, are a direct reflection of their citizens, as expressions of their architecture directly influence the living conditions of their people. The gap between architectural design ideas and their interpretation in a real built environment can be addressed differently by the opposite process and effect. With the flexibility and modularity of the construction system, the ancient Chinese architecture was a configurative system until the modern time when it became figurative with nationalistic symbolism, and lost its flexibility to adapt in different functions. Through this study, the researchers try to exploit and release the powerful adaptation of this configurative system by using the method of parametric design. First of all, according to the modern parametric theory, the logic of the traditional structural system is found out by abandoning the feudal social hierarchical factors. And then, a
