Abstract:
3-D computational modelling of the human spine provides a sophisticated and cost-effective medium for bioengineers, researchers, and ergonomics designers in order to study the biomechanical behaviour of the human spine under different loading conditions. Developing a generic parametric computational human spine model to be employed in biomechanical modelling introduces a considerable potential to reduce the complexity of implementing and amending the intricate spinal geometry. The main objective of this research is to develop a 3-D parametric human spine model generation framework based on a c

Much attention has been given to the economic aspects of the fisheries in Egypt, while building a statistical or mathematical model for fish production has received little attention. This study is devoted to a comprehensive assessment of Lake Manzala fisheries; past, present and future. The study objectives were to determine the factors that affect fish catches by individual vessels, to compare between parametric and non-parametric models of the fish

Abstract:
Bayesian nonparametric modelling has recently attracted a lot of attention, mainly due to the advancement of various simulation techniques, and especially Monte Carlo Markov Chain (MCMC) methods. In this thesis I propose some Bayesian nonparametric models for grouped data, which make use of dependent random probability measures. These probability measures are constructed by normalising infinitely divisible probability measures and exhibit nice theoretical properties. Implementation of these models is also easy, using mainly MCMC methods. An additional step in these algorithms is also proposed,

The visual system is confronted with the daunting task of extracting behaviourally relevant visual information from noisy and ambiguous patterns of luminance falling on the retina. It solves this problem through a hierarchical architecture, in which the visual stimulus is iteratively re-encoded into ever more abstract representations which can drive behaviour. This thesis explores the question of how the computations performed by neurons in the visual hierarchy create behaviourally relevant representations. This question requires probing the visual system at multiple scales: computation is the

Joint modelling is the simultaneous modelling of longitudinal and survival data, while taking into account a possible association between them. A common approach in joint modelling studies is to assume that the repeated measurements follow a lin- ear mixed eects model and the survival data is modelled using a Cox proportional hazards model. The Cox model, however, requires a strong proportionality assump- tion, which seems to be violated quite often. We, thus, propose the use of parametric survival models. The starting point of the proposed approach is given by a task ontology. It is well known that the radio channel is characterized by multipath propagation, a phenomenon deemed problematic and whose mitigation has been achieved through techniques such as diversity, beamforming or adaptive antennas. By exploring conveniently the spatial domain MIMO sys
