The purpose of this article was to determine if being socialized in a drug culture has increased knowledge levels and eliminated the need for adult drug education programs. A large group of parents was surveyed and it was found that the parents of the late 1980s had knowledge levels only slightly higher than the parents of the early 1970s. Today's parents significantly lack the knowledge and resources to informatively educate their children. The clearer operationalization of the concepts of parental involvement and participation allows the differentiation of the following aspects: - two types of parental involvement, namely spontaneous (starts from the bottom up) versus planned (from the top down); the latter refers to interventions

Abstract:
Due to the sudden closure of schools during the Covid-19 pandemic, parents were required to promote home learning in order to support their children's online learning. As a result, the quality of online learning activities provided to primary school students is dependent on parental participation. Thus, this research focuses on studying the extent to which parental factors influence the management of home learning for students. The study adopted a descriptive research design and used a purposive sampling technique to select the respondents. The data was collected using a self-administered ques

This report presents findings for Ireland for two aspects of students’ environmental awareness that were captured for the first time in the 2023 cycle of TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study). These are (i) students’ environmental knowledge – a subscale of the science assessment, drawing on selected items that are related to environmental and climate issues – and (ii) students’ attitudes towards environmental preservation. The report presents data for Fourth Class (primary) and Second Year (post-primary) students, and also describes environmentally relevant practices an

We document large gaps between parents knowledge and school reports of students attendance and grades. Sending frequent text messages with information on attendance, grades and school behavior shrinks those gaps. Parents of at-risk students adjust their understanding of their children's performance to the greatest degree. High-frequency text messages had positive impacts on grades and attendance. Math GPA increased 0.08 of a standard deviation; the probability of earning a passing grade in math increased by 2.7 percentage points (relative to a mean of 90 percent). Full text
Abstract:
Early childhood care and development (ECCD) discourse, policy, and research have understandably focused on parents—their roles, knowledge, practices, and lived experiences. However, it truly “takes a village” to raise a child, particularly in an intergenerational, communal society like the Philippines, where both historical and future trends indicate a greater involvement of various “significant others” in the pag-aalaga (i.e., care or nurturing) of children. This report examines how Filipino parents approach early childhood development, emphasizing the central roles of various actors—parents,

The epigentic part of this objective was modified during the course of the project: instead of characterization of chromatin structure in a single melon line through genome-wide mapping of nucleosomes using MNase-seq approach, we took advantage of rapid advancements in single-molecule se

Latin America and the Caribbean are facing numerous challenges, such as low-quality education, poor well-being, and non-peaceful and exclusive societies. The causes are complex, yet connected to outdated, ineffective, and underfinanced education systems. The emotional strain of the pandemic continues to create new challenges and unearth problems that have long been neglected. There is an urgent need for a disruptive solution that supports educators, parents, and students to overcome existing problems as well as better prepare them for uncertain times that lie ahead. Thus far, empirical research on the STW has been limited by a dearth of data; however, based on newly available data from BPS:12/17, the findings in this
