Abstract:
Professionals in the field of analysis of quality systems is widely known for the Pareto principle and the corresponding graphs showing the contribution of private reasons in the overall picture of the functioning of the system. Pareto chart and the associated cumulative Lorenz curve are used to illustrate the dominant alternatives in terms of their total number. The reason for the popularity of Pareto charts lies in the objectively obvious visibility of the apparatus when nagoricino the analysis of functioning of complex systems. The aim of this work was to determine the possibility of using Pareto analysis to identify the causes that affect the quality of the students in the learning process of knowledge. Students were asked to analyze their own learning with the use of Pareto charts the results of activities and causes. In the first stage, the students in the scoring books expected average score in all disciplines, included in the above blocks. The obtained information was used to build the Pareto chart of learning outcomes. In the second phase, the students formulated a list of the most probable reasons for low (or high enough) progress on the most problematic unit, previously identified and evaluated the significance of each reason on a 100-point system. Addressing the identified causes of failure the student can't and requires improvement of the curriculum, and improving logistical support of the educational process. Pareto analysis, successfully used industrialized countries in assessing the quality of products, efficient and at the analysis of quality performance as well as allows to reveal problem places of the educational process.

Abstract:
Construction projects are inseparable from their unique management. The unique management of construction projects makes it difficult to maintain their quality. One of the tools to measure quality in project management is the Pareto chart. Pareto chart is a statistical technique that is usually used for decision making based on the frequency of events compared to the causes of events. This research was conducted to analyze the causes of repair work on project X by using Pareto chart. The conceptual framework used in this study is based on two approaches, namely literature and field observations. The main literature for analysis is the Pareto chart then field data collection on each component first which is then categorized based on the type of work. After the data is categorized, a Pareto chart will be made from the data. The processing results obtained two dominant types of errors in the casting work, namely cracks and unevenness of the casting results. Cracks and unevenness of the casting results can be overcome by the chipping method then followed by grouting if necessary. The chipping method is used to repair porous concrete or flatten the casting if it swells, and the grouting method to fill cracks and chipping results with a mixture of cement and water until the surface becomes flat and the casting work results are better.

Abstract:
To solve the drawbacks that the existing Pareto chart do not consider the fuzzy attribute of quality and imbalance of the improvement opportunities for quality defects, the nonconformity membership analysis method was introduced to lead a classification analysis on quality defects data, which increased the flexibility of data analysis, and Pareto priority index was introduced to assess improvement opportunities for quality defects, which increased the rationality during decision-making for quality defective items to improve. The two ways were both integrated to the analysis instance of equipment maintenance quality data based on fuzzy weighted Pareto chart, then weights and dynamic threshold were set to get different results of the Pareto analysis. The presented method can provide effective method support for organizations to scientifically analyze equipment maintenance quality data and accurately determine the direction of quality improvement.

Abstract:
In the repair industry, when restoring the operability of machinery and equipment by eliminating failures and extending operational life, discrepancies may occur resulting in internal losses detected during the testing phase of repaired machinery, equipment and units. When assessing internal losses from defects in repair production, it is advisable to apply the Pareto chart, which allows clearly detecting the main troubles, and, based on this, identify the causes of discrepancies and develop measures to reduce the risk of their further occurrence. The authors recommend applying two types of the Pareto chart: by the number of defects and by the cost of discrepancy. When applied during testing of repaired KAMAZ 6522 engines to assess internal losses resulting from faults, the Pareto chart identifi ed the need to eliminate the cause of discrepancies in the oil supply mode to the valve rocker arm bearings, leaky nozzle seals in the cylinder heads and improper oil pressure in the lubrication system.

Abstract:
PurposeThis research proposes a text analytics–based framework that examines the utility of online customer reviews in evaluating automobile manufacturers and discovering their consumer-perceived weaknesses.Design/methodology/approachThe proposed framework integrates aspect-level sentiment analysis with the house of quality (HoQ), TOPSIS, Pareto chart and fishbone diagram. While sentiment analysis mines and quantifies review-embedded consumer opinions on various automobile attributes, the integrated HoQ-TOPSIS analyzes the quantified opinions and evaluates the manufacturers. The Pareto charts assist in discovering consumer-perceived weaknesses of the underperforming manufacturers. Finally, the fishbone diagram visually represents the results in the form with which the manufacturing community is acquainted.FindingsThe proposed framework is tested on a review data set collected from CarWale, a well-known car portal in India. Selecting five manufacturers from the mid-size car segment, the authors identified the worst-performing one and discovered its weak attributes.Practical implicationsThe proposed framework can help the manufacturers in evaluating competitor; identifying consumers' contemporary interests; discovering own and their competitors' weak attributes; assessing the suppliers and sending early warnings; detecting the hazardous defects. It can assist the component suppliers in devising process improvement strategies; improving their customer network; comparing them with competitors. It can support the customers in identifying the best available alternative.Originality/valueThe proposed framework is first of its kind to integrate the sentiment analysis with (1) HoQ-TOPSIS to assess the manufacturers; (2) Pareto chart to discover their weaknesses; (3) fishbone diagram to visually represent the results.

Abstract:
Statistical process control (SPC) which includes very powerful techniques used in other mature engineering disciplines for providing process control is not used by many software organizations. In software engineering domain, SPC is currently utilized only by organizations which have high maturity levels according to the process improvement models like CMM, ISO/IEC 15504 and CMMI. Guidelines and software tools to implement SPC techniques should be developed for effective use and dissemination of SPC especially for low maturity organizations. In this thesis, a software tool (SPC-AAT) which we developed to assess the suitability of software processes and metrics for SPC and use of SPC tools is presented. With SPC-AAT, we aim to ease and enhance application of SPC especially for emergent and low maturity organizations. Control charts, histograms, bar charts and pareto charts are the supported SPC tools for this purpose. We also explained the validation of the tool over two processes of a software organization in three case studies.

Abstract:
This thesis aims at securing the quality of components from AP&T’s suppliers and to get a picture of different suppliers’ processes. In this thesis, samples supplied by various AP&T suppliers where measured at AP&T to gather data on how well the parts met design specifications. The collected data were analyzed using histogram and stratification. Further analysis was done using pareto chart and capability indices. Only the critical dimensions identified from the pareto chart together with discussions with experts on the shop floor were further analyzed using capability indices. This was done to focus more on the critical dimensions which needed more attention. The findings were critically studied and suggestions were made which served as a fundamental base for supplier product quality improvement plan at AP&T. However, there was no direct contact with the supplier process to ascertain its being in control; therefore, product characterization was carried out. In this case, all the results obtained from the analyses only gave a momentary picture of the process. Therefore, the results can not be used for future predictions. In the analysis, special attention was laid on the shape, spread and centering of the histogram. Studies were also done on the significant few; got from the pareto chart. Use was made of capability indices to get the momentary fall-outs of ppm and the percentage of the specification band used up by the process.

Some organizations in the Brazilian forestry industry do not follow the development pace of other industries, or the adoption rate of management and quality methodologies and tools. As result, the low quality and high instability of processes create a lot of waste in the sector. This is intensified when it happens during the harvesting, one of the activities that most contributes to the production costs of a forestry business. This study aimed to evaluate the predictability of timber harvesting process based on critical points identified in the thinning and harvest operations. For this, research was divided in three stages. The first one was mapping the harvesting process and the elaboration of fluxograms. The second stage was the identification, through interviews, and assessment of critical points using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Pareto chart. The third stage was the evaluation of the process using Statistical Process Control (SPC) through attributes and variable in the main failures. In the interviews conducted with workers, seven critical points were identified: damage to the remaining trees, sorting, stump height, dirt in load, knot on the second log, tree left in the field and safety. The evaluation with Pareto chart showed that 80% of the failures identified during harvest are attributed to three causes: damage to the remaining trees, sorting and stump height. The FMEA analysis showed that the failure with highest risk index was knots on the second log, followed by safety. For evaluation with the SPC, damage to remaining trees, sorting and stump height were selected. In general, control charts showed that the forest harvest process was considered unstable and unpredictable, even though it is within the limits defined by the company

Abstract:
Advertising has played a central role in shaping the history of modern media. While often identified with American consumerism and the rise of the 'Information Society', motion picture advertising has been part of European visual culture since the late nineteenth century. With the global spread of ad agencies, moving image advertisements became a privileged cultural form to make people experience the qualities and uses of branded commodities, to articulate visions of a 'good life', and to incite social relationships. Abandoning a conventional delineation of fields by medium, country, or period, this book suggests a lateral view. It charts the audiovisual history of advertising by focussing on objects (products and services), screens (exhibition, programming, physical media), practices (production, marketing), and intermediaries (ad agencies). In this way, the book develops new historical, methodological, and theoretical perspectives.

Abstract:
This book offers a comprehensive linguistic evaluation of the 376 personal names attested in the roughly 600 Aramaic inscriptions of Hatra, the famous Northern Mesopotamian city that flourished in the Parthian age, between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD. This study benefits from the publication of many Hatran inscriptions during recent decades, which have yielded rich onomastic data, and some fresh readings of these epigraphic sources. This work is subdivided into three main parts: an “Onomastic Catalogue”, a “Linguistic Analysis”, and a “Concordances Section”. The “Catalogue” is organized as a list of entries, in which every name is transliterated, translated (whenever possible), discussed from an etymological perspective, provided with onomastic parallels, and accompanied by its attestations in the Hatran Aramaic corpus. The “Catalogue” is followed by a “Linguistic Analysis” which describes, firstly, the principal orthographic, phonological, morphological, and syntactical features of Hatran names. The linguistic discussion proper is followed by a semantic taxonomy of the names which make up the corpus and an overview of the religious significance of the theophoric names. “Charts of Concordances” end the book.

Abstract:
The text investigates nationalist thought during the Italian interwar years, tracing the rising of significant issues of economic policy, such as the Labour Chart, the founding of IRI, corporativism and colonial politics. Three economists were especially relevant: Vilfredo Pareto, Maffeo Pantaleoni and Enrico Barone. Anyway, in the field of political economy and law, two other personalities were even more crucial: Alfredo Rocco and Alberto Beneduce, who Mussolini trusted in terms of loyalty and competence. The topic is complex and requires further investigation. The alternate influence of the two during the long government of Mussolini, Rocco first and then Beneduce, is to be carefully considered as one of the main events of the Italian history under the Fascist regime

Abstract:
A novel approach using a genetic algorithm is presented for extracting globally satisfycing (Pareto optimal) solutions from a morphological chart where the evaluation and combination of “means to sub-functions” is modeled as a combinatorial multi-objective optimization problem. A fast and robust genetic algorithm is developed to solve the resulting optimization problem. Customized crossover and mutation operators specifically tailored to solve the combinatorial optimization problem are discussed. A proof-of-concept simulation on a practical design problem is presented. The described genetic algorithm incorporates features to prevent redundant evaluation of identical solutions and a method for handling of the compatibility matrix (feasible/infeasible combinations) and addressing desirable/undesirable combinations. The proposed approach is limited by its reliance on the quantifiable metrics for evaluating the objectives and the existence of a mathematical representation of the combined solutions. The optimization framework is designed to be a scalable and flexible procedure which can be easily modified to accommodate a wide variety of design methods that are based on the morphological chart.

Abstract:
Transportation in Arctic seas is connected with variability of routes. Availability of those routes is depending on current environmental conditions. In the paper the algorithm for navigation system, which is intended to advice captain the most economically effective and less risky route with the presence of ice chart, is proposed. Smart navigation system for Arctic seas has specific: shortest ways can occur to be impassable or too risky. More long routes through free waters can finally take less fuel comparing to shorter, but covered with ice. Thus, economical profitability of operating in Arctic seas depends on effectiveness of route choosing. To make estimations about most effective route and its length, the method based on graph algorithms is presented in this paper. The ice chart is covered by the graph, which can have form of grid, with neighbor nodes connected by edges. In general, multiple parameters can be assigned to each edge — length, maximal ice thickness on the way, risk, etc. In this paper two separate cost functions are considered: first is responsible for travel expenses, and the second is responsible for ice passability on the route. To find most economically efficient route with minimal possible ice thickness on the way the method with graph modification and Dijkstra algorithm was used. This route provides Pareto-optimal solution for reduced version of the problem. The software, which implements the method, was built. The example of searching for least expensive and Pareto-optimal route is provided. Results are discussed.

Abstract:
Jet fuel flowing through the fuel injector is atomized and then mixed with high temperature compressed air flowing through the swirler to create a combustible mixture inside a gas turbine combustor. Individual geometric and flow features are carefully tuned at a component level to deliver optimum combustion performance. In a critical interface such as the fuel injector and swirler, manufacturing tolerances not only have an impact on combustor performance and operability but also on durability, as the relative position of the fuel injector to the swirler significantly impacts the swirler temperature. This paper studies the influence of manufacturing tolerances on component assembly and the resulting impact on swirler temperature. The oxidation damage mechanism of the swirler is used as a measure to assess swirler durability. A Pareto chart of the effect of manufacturing tolerances on metal temperature is used to highlight the key influencing parameters. Probability distribution associated with manufacturing tolerances is gathered with Monte Carlo simulation to guide the design.

Abstract:
The effect of the geometry of conductive fillers on the conduction of conductive adhesives is studied. 3-D microstructure models of conductive adhesives are built to describe the positions and connections of the conductive fillers. Both rectangular flakes and spherical particles are studied. The total resistance of conductive adhesive is calculated by solving the resistor network formed by all particle connections. The method of full factorial design at two levels is used, and the geometric parameters are set at high and low level to study their effects on the resistivity of the conductive adhesive. Pareto chart of standardized effects of factors are examined for different configurations. Factors with significant effects are found. Main effect plots are used to study how significant factors affect the resistivity. Monte Carlo simulations are used for each configuration. Radius mean has the most significant effect for spherical particles, while the alignment angle is most significant for flakes.

Abstract:
Abstract A performance-based representation is presented, which uses the Performance Orientation Chart (POC) to aid the designer throughout an interactive design process. Assuming that all performance attributes can be expressed as functions of the design parameters, three types of graphical matrix are shown in the POC: 1) The design form depicts the performance attributes varying with the correspondent design parameters; 2) The performance dependency addresses the trade-off information among the multiple specifications based on Pareto optimal solutions; 3) The parameter constraint space defines the feasible region of the design, parameters within the, active specification limits. Guided by these graphical matrices, the designer can interactively develop the design solution to satisfy multiple specifications. The methodology was applied to a practical design problem to explicate how the POC can help the designer acquire a satisfying design solution with extensive confidence. Finally, the discussion, indicates that the performance-based representation is significantly compatible with other current engineering design methodologies.

Abstract:
Manual construction of design tolerance charts is a popular technique for analyzing tolerance accumulation in parts and assemblies, even though it is limited to one-dimensional worst-case analysis. Since charting rules are GD&T (geometric dimensioning & tolerancing) specification dependent, and the user has to remember all the different rules to construct a valid tolerance chart, manual charting technique is time-consuming and error-prone. The computer can be used for automated tolerance charting, which can relieve the user from the tedious and error-prone procedure while obtain the valid results faster. The automation of tolerance charting, based on the ASU GD&T mathematical model, involves (1) automation of stackup loop detection, (2) formulation of the charting rules for different geometric tolerances and determination of the closed form function for statistical analysis, (3) automatic part arrangement for an assembly level chart analysis, (4) development of the algorithms for chart analysis and automatic application of the charting rules. Since the authors’ previous DETC/CIE’03 paper already discussed tasks 1~2 and part of task 4, this paper will focus upon task 3, i.e. virtual part arrangement in assemblies for tolerance charts, and update the analysis algorithm (related to task 4). These two papers together will provide a complete coverage of automated tolerance charting technique popularly used in industry. The implementation will be briefly discussed as well, and case studies will be provided to demonstrate the approach to virtual part arrangement.

Schnabel, Filipina, and Danielle Aldridge. Effectiveness of EHR-Depression Screening Among Adult Diabetics in an Urban Primary Care Clinic. University of Tennessee Health Science Center, April 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21007/con.dnp.2021.0003.

Full text
Abstract:
Background Diabetes mellitus (DM) and depression are important comorbid conditions that can lead to more serious health outcomes. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) supports routine screening for depression as part of standard diabetes management. The PHQ2 and PHQ9 questionnaires are good diagnostic screening tools used for major depressive disorders in Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). This quality improvement study aims to compare the rate of depression screening, treatment, and referral to behavioral health in adult patients with DM2 pre and post-integration of depression screening tools into the electronic health record (EHR). Methods We conducted a retrospective chart review on patients aged 18 years and above with a diagnosis of DM2 and no initial diagnosis of depression or other mental illnesses. Chart reviews included those from 2018 or prior for before integration data and 2020 to present for after integration. Sixty subjects were randomly selected from a pool of 33,695 patients in the clinic with DM2 from the year 2013-2021. Thirty of the patients were prior to the integration of depression screening tools PHQ2 and PHQ9 into the EHR, while the other half were post-integration. The study population ranged from 18-83 years old. Results All subjects (100%) were screened using PHQ2 before integration and after integration. Twenty percent of patients screened had a positive PHQ2 among subjects before integration, while 10% had a positive PHQ2 after integration. Twenty percent of patients were screened with a PHQ9 pre-integration which accounted for 100% of those subjects with a positive PHQ2. However, of the 10% of patients with a positive PHQ2 post-integration, only 6.7 % of subjects were screened, which means not all patients with a positive PHQ2 were adequately screened post-integration. Interestingly, 10% of patients were treated with antidepressants before integration, while none were treated with medications in the post-integration group. There were no referrals made to the behavior team in either group. Conclusion There is no difference between the prevalence of depression screening before or after integration of depression screening tools in the EHR. The study noted that there is a decrease in the treatment using antidepressants after integration. However, other undetermined conditions could have influenced this. Furthermore, not all patients with positive PHQ2 in the after-integration group were screened with PHQ9. The authors are unsure if the integration of the depression screens influenced this change. In both groups, there is no difference between referrals to the behavior team. Implications to Nursing Practice This quality improvement study shows that providers are good at screening their DM2 patients for depression whether the screening tools were incorporated in the EHR or not. However, future studies regarding providers, support staff, and patient convenience relating to accessibility and availability of the tool should be made. Additional issues to consider are documentation reliability, hours of work to scan documents in the chart, risk of documentation getting lost, and the use of paper that requires shredding to comply with privacy.

Woods, Rachel, Alison Zhong, and Madelyn Vincent. Factors Associated with Influenza & Tdap Vaccine Uptake in Pregnant Patients at the UT Family Medicine Clinic in Memphis. University of Tennessee Health Science Center, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21007/com.lsp.2020.0003.

Full text
Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Given the increased risk for infections among pregnant patients and newborns, vaccination against influenza (>50,000,000 annual US cases affecting all ages) and pertussis (>15,000 annual US cases disproportionately affecting newborns) are recommended among pregnant patients in order to protect them and their babies via passive immunity to cover a newborn’s window of vaccine ineligibility. Though flu and Tdap vaccination rates among pregnant patients have been trending upwards nationally, there is still room for improvement to achieve optimal rates. OBJECTIVES: The primary objectives were to study factors that affect the vaccination rates at the University of Tennessee Family Medicine Clinic at Memphis (UTFMC-M), compare those rates with national pregnancy flu/Tdap vaccination rates, and to generate recommendations based off observed factors associated with vaccine uptake to improve flu/Tdap vaccination rates in UTFMC-M pregnant patients. METHODS: This was a retrospective chart review of UTFMC-M patients who were pregnant from September 1, 2019-April 24, 2020 (included 2019-2020 flu season) (n=465). Variables studied included demographic data (race, age, insurance), immunization history (vaccine status, history of physician encouragement), and prenatal history (parity, number of prenatal visits, trimester at first visit, high risk clinic (HRC) admittance status). Vaccination status was based on ACIP recommendations (Flu shot eligible = any gestational age; Tdap eligible = ≥27 weeks). Positive HRC admittance was noted for patients with ≥2 visits to the UTFMC-M HRC, a clinic that specializes in high risk pregnant patient care. RESULTS: The patient sample was predominantly black (84.3%) and insured by Medicaid programs (88%). Among eligible UTFMC-M pregnant patients, 50.1% were flu-vaccinated (n=465); 73.8% were Tdap-vaccinated (n=317); and 52.1% were Flu+Tdap-vaccinated (n=317). No significant associations were found between vaccine uptake and HRC status, parity, and age. However, statistically significant relationships were found between vaccine uptake and physician encouragement (positive relationship with flu shot: X2(1, N = 465) =131, p < 0.001, Tdap: X2 (6, N = 465) =476, p < 0.001), number of prenatal visits (flu shot group median 8 visits, Tdap group median 9 visits vs. unvaccinated group median 4 visits; p < 0.001), and early trimester age at first prenatal visit (X2(6, N = 465) =47.635 , p CONCLUSION: 2019-2020 UTFMC-M vaccination rates were on par with 2018-2019 US flu vaccine rates and higher than 2018-2019 US Tdap and Flu+Tdap rates. There were statistically significant relationships between vaccine uptake at UTFMC-M and physician encouragement, number of prenatal visits, and early trimester age at first prenatal visit but no significant relationships with UTFMC-M HRC admittance, parity, or age. Recommendations following from our observations to address further vaccine rate improvement include: continue vaccine encouragement, continue booking multiple visits (8 for flu, 9 for Tdap), prioritize Tdap vaccine higher for late trimester intake patients, and focus on flu vaccine encouragement and education.

In this article considered Journalistic and editorial activity of Volodymyr Lenika (14.06.1922–02.11.2005) – one of the leading figures of Ukrainian emigration in Germany. First outlined basic landmarks of his life and creation. Journalistic and editorial activity of Volodymyr Lenik was during to forty years out of Ukraine. In the conditions of emigration politically zaangazhovani Ukrainians counted on temporality of the stay abroad and prepared to transference of the created charts and instituciy on native lands. It was or by not main part of conception of liberation revolution of elaborate OUN under the direction of Stepan Banderi, and successfully incarnated in post-war years. Volodymyr Lenik, executing responsible commissions Organization, proved on a few directions of activity, which were organically combined with his journalistic and editorial work. As an editor he was promotorom of creation and realization of models of magazines «Avangard», «Krylati», «Znannia», «Freie Presse Korespondenz», newspapers «Shliakh peremogy». As a journalist Volodymyr Lenik left ponderable work, considerable part of which entered in two-volume edition «Ukrainians on strange land, or reporting, from long journeys». Subject of him newspaper-magazine publications directed on illumination of school, youth, student, cultural, scientific problems, organization and activity of emigrant structures, political fight of emigration, to dethronement of the antiukrainskikh Moscow diversions and provocations. Such variety of problematic of works of V. Lenika was directed in the river-bed of retaining of revolutionary temperament in the environment of diaspore, to bringing in of it to activity in public and political life. Problematic of him is systematized publicism and journalistic appearances, which was inferior realization of a few important tasks, namely to the fight for Ukrainian independence in new terms, cherishing and maintainance of national identity, counteraction hostile soviet propaganda. On an example headed Volodymyr Lenikom a magazine «Knowledge» some aspects are exposed him editorial trade.
