ABSTRACT In recent years, the construction of foundation elements from large-volume reinforced concrete is becoming increasingly common. This implies a potential increase in the risk of cracks of thermal origin, due to the heat of hydration of cement. Under these circumstances, these concrete elements need to be treated using the mass concrete theory, widespread in dam construction, but little used when designing buildings. This paper aims to present a case study about the procedures and problems involved in the construction of a spread footing with a volume of approximately 800m³ designed for

Achlya catenulata sp. nov. was collected from water samples in a mangrove swamp of the “Parque Estadual da Ilha do Cardoso”, São Paulo State, Brazil. This new species is characterized by the presence of achlyoid type of zoospore discharge from both primary and secondary sporangia, catenulate smooth-walled oogonia in chains of up to 11 oogonia, diclinous antheridial branches and eccentric oospores, which generally failed to mature. Maximum likelihood phylogenetic analyses based on the ITS and LSU regions (rDNA) placed this species within the Achlya sensu stricto clade.

A pesquisa do antígeno rábico no tecido cerebral do morcego apresentou resultado positivo pela reação de imunofluorescência direta e pela prova de inoculação em camundongos. Species inventories are the basis for systematic study and critical to ecology, biogeography and identification of biological indicators and key species. They also provide key information for assessments of environmental change, for natural resource conservation or recovery of degraded ecosystems. Thus, inventories play a key role in planning strategies for conservation and sustainable use.
