Abstract:
Interfaces between Rosemarie Parse nursing theory and national humanization policyAbstract: The objective was to discuss the interfaces between the nursing theory “Becoming Human” and tha Brazilian Humanization Policy, establishing relationships with the paradigm shift in health care. It is a documentary, qualitative, critical and reflective research, based on the triangulation of Rosimeire Parse's theory, the National Humanization Policy and national and foreign publications on the phenomenon studied. It was possible to demonstrate an intimate relationship between the aspects proposed in Parse's “Becoming human” theory and the National Humanization Policy, especially in the aspects of valuing the subjects and collectives, the integrality, the meaning of the experiences lived by the users, the welcoming and qualified listening, and nursing care as a mediator of a process of transformation of ways of living, having not only converging foundations, but the glimpse of finding in both possibilities of breaking paradigms and, consequently, of transforming care practices in health.Descriptors: Nursing Theory, Humanization of Assistance, Integrality in Health. Abstract:
Objective: The purpose of this human science nursing inquiry is to explore the meaning of struggling in change for persons at the end of life. Methods: Guided by Parse's theory of human becoming, a descriptive exploratory method was used to answer the research question: What is the meaning of the experience of struggling in change for persons at the end of life? Eight persons who were living with dying described experiences of struggling in change during face-to-face audiotaped interviews. Results: A process of analysis–synthesis revealed three themes that are discussed in relation to extant related literature and interpreted in light of the human becoming perspective.Significance of results: Findings from the study contribute new knowledge about human experience at the end of life from a human science perspective and offer new insights on struggling in change as a rhythmical pattern of living and dying. Implications for palliative practice, research, and education are discussed.

Abstract:
The 19th century philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche placed great emphasis on the notion of becoming and although contemporary Nietzsche scholars have paid considerable attention to Nietzsche’s psychology, little attention has been paid to Nietzsche’s notion of becoming as a theory of human development. This is not surprising given the aphoristic and unsystematic presentation of Nietzsche’s ideas. Drawing on his own familiarity with Nietzsche’s work, the author explores the literature on Nietzsche’s conception of becoming, placing particular emphasis on the notion of becoming what one is. In lieu of philosophical analysis of the primary texts, the author consults contemporary scholarship on Nietzsche’s psychology to develop a neo-Nietzschean theory of human development and argues that Nietzsche does indeed have an inchoate theory. The author further relates the neo-Nietzschean theory of human development to other theories within the discipline, such as possible selves, dynamic integration, self-actualization, self-creation, and additional metatheoretical concerns.

Abstract:
The present study describes ten personal values expressed by men and women from two countries, and it explores the relationships between two opposing values, Achievement and Benevolence, specifying Stimulation as a mediator between them. It is further explored whether such a mediation model could be further qualified by age and Gender as moderators. The 40-item Portraits Values Questionnaire (PVQ), measuring ten basic values, was administered to 1,000 young adults from two countries. Hierarchical regression methods were applied to examine mediation and moderation mechanisms.Minor gender and country differences emerged for some of the ten basic values. An indirect relationship among the three selected values was identified. Stimulation was found to operate as a mediator between achievement and benevolence. A conditional process model was established with Gender moderating the Achievement – Stimulation path (men had a steeper slope than women), whereas age moderated the Stimulation – Benevolence path (younger individuals had a steeper slope than older ones). Gender also moderated the Achievement – Benevolence path (men had a steeper slope than women). For men, the association between achievement and stimulation was stronger than for women. For the younger persons, the association between stimulation and benevolence was stronger than for older ones. For women, the level of benevolence was independent of their achievement level. The present analyses shed new light on indirect and differential associations among personal values, adding a novel perspective to research on cognitive mechanisms involved in the ten basic values’ becoming. Abstract:
AbstractThis is a paper about mark making and human becoming. I will be asking what do marks do? How do they signify? What role do marks play in human becoming and the evolution of human intelligence? These questions cannot be pursued effectively from the perspective of any single discipline or ontology. Nonetheless, they are questions that archaeology has a great deal to contribute. They are also important questions, if not the least because evidence of early mark making constitutes the favoured archaeological mark of the ‘cognitive’ (in the ‘modern’ representational sense of the word). In this paper I want to argue that the archaeological predilection to see mark making as a potential index of symbolic representation often blind us to other, more basic dimensions of the cognitive life and agency of those marks as material signs. Drawing on enactive cognitive science and Material Engagement Theory I will show that early markings, such as the famous engravings from Blombos cave, are above all the products of kinesthetic dynamics of a non-representational sort that allow humans to engage and discover the semiotic affordances of mark making opening up new possibilities of enactive material signification. I will also indicate some common pitfalls in the way archaeology thinks about the ‘cognitive’ that needs overcome.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to contribute to the human becoming school of thought in nursing by defining the teaching-learning process. From a human becoming perspective, teaching-learning is a process of engaging with others in coming to know. The teaching-learning process as a lived experience of engaging with others in coming to know involves the multidimensional processes of expanding imaginal margins, naming the new, going with content-process shifts, abiding with paradox, giving meaning, inviting dialogue, noticing the now, and growing story.

Abstract:
The status of constructivism as an open and accommodating intellectual approach is at odds with its aim of becoming the most appropriate site for a theory-practice synthesis. As an exemplar of the social concern that forms the ontology of constructivism, human rights is well placed to provide the context of a critique. More often than not, human rights are taken to be an unreliable variable within differently conceived international political schema. It is now an appropriate time to look again at the opportunities that human rights offers in establishing the cohesion of constructivism. Challenging the limitations of preconceived notions of social knowledge, the focus of the article will be on the human-rights side of the equation; namely, its features as a universal and its manifestation as a power, and what they tell us about the requirements for “becoming theory.”

Abstract:
This article presents a tentative theoretical model of nurses' becoming as human beings in end-of-life care. As human beings, nurses are vulnerable. Caring for patients at the end of life can strengthen their own understanding of life and death. In the caring communion, nurses gain contact with life and themselves as human beings. Nurses' becoming as human beings in end-of-life care can be understood as a strength and a willingness to act in love and in compassion as they strive to understand and be reconciled with their own life situations, happiness, and grief.
