Abstract:
The article examines the key features of the Qur’anic exegesis of Bashkir Sufi and scholar Tajj al-Din ibn Yalchighul (1767–1837) expressed in his interpretation on one-seventh part of the Qur’an in the Turkic language written in 1829 and published several times between 1859 and 1917. The author relates Tajj al-Din’s adherence to the historical-narrative and ethical-didactic interpretation of the sacred text to his biography and socio-cultural background. The main factor that influenced his formation as a Muslim scholar was his long-term education in the cultural centers of the Ottoman Empire

Abstract:
Scale critique applies to time as well as space. Thinking with temporal scale variance can help us avoid seeing deep time as sublime, numerical, and continuous. By reading Stephen Jay Gould with Michael Madsen's documentary Into Eternity, this essay argues that the second concept of scale critique is about the fit, good or bad, between a temporal scale domain and a narrative timeframe. Because temporal scale domains have material finitude and specificity, they counteract the timelessness that accrues to ideologies of extinction.

In a synthetic approach to the quassinoid bruceantin (2), the key intermediate 8 obtained via alkylation of a dianion has been transformed into the pentacyclic intermediate 33 via an ABDC ring forming strategy. The key steps involved in this route are as follows: a unique acid catalyzed cyclization, 19 → 20; an intramolecular Michael reaction, 24 → 28; and an allyl sulfoxide [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement to introduce the axial C12 alcohol, 31 → 33. Key words: bruceantin, quassinoids, cyclization, sulfoxides, sigmatropic rearrangement.

Abstract Background: Classic reports on lymphocyte development hold that B and T cells develop independently. This concept derives in part from the observation that patients with pure B cell immunodeficiency and hypogammaglobulinemia have a normal thymus and T cell numbers. Our recent findings however challenge this concept. We found that T cell development depends not only on the interaction of T cell precursors with thymic epithelial cells but also on other cells. Here we report that those other cells are B cells. Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine whether B cells drive T cell

Further, recommendations are made to cope with challenges of food insecurity. The authors emphasise the need of continuity of the current trend of reforms and devising new policies for the agricultural, food, and natural resources sectors. The issues of poverty, foo

We report on the faunal transition of benthic foraminifera during the middle Eocene at Site U1333 (4862 m water depth, 3,560–3,720 m paleo-water depth) of Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 320 in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. During the period ∼41.5–40.7 Ma, which includes carbonate accumulation event 3 (CAE-3), the benthic foraminiferal accumulation rate (BFAR) increased gradually and then it declined rapidly. In contrast, BFAR was considerably lower during ∼40.7–39.4 Ma, corresponding to the middle Eocene climatic optimum (MECO), and then it increased during ∼39.3–38.4 Ma,

This study investigated the timing of a habitat shift from fluvial to lacustrine habitat of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar, parr in a subarctic river in northern Finland and whether the individuals that shifted already had the best growth rate prior to the shift or, alternatively, whether the shift was triggered by competition-induced growth depression. The age distribution of parr indicated that most of the fish that shifted belonged to the age group 2+ and the proportion of 1+ fish was less than 3%. AbstractLagrangian statistics of the surface circulation in the Indian Ocean (IO) are investigated using drifter observations during 1985–2013. The methodology isolates the influence of low-frequency variations and horizontal shear of mean flow. The estimated Lagrangian statistics are spatially inhomogeneous and anisotropic over the IO basin, with values of ~6–85 × 107 cm2 s−1 for diffusivity, ~2–7 days for integral time scale, and ~33–223 km for length scale. Large diffusivities (>20 × 107 cm2 s−1) occur in the central-eastern equatorial IO and the eastern African coast. Small diffusivitie

SummaryPlatelets are exposed to thrombin when they take part in arterial thrombus formation, and they may return to the circulation when they are freed by fibrinolysis and dislodged by flowing blood. Thrombin causes the expression of procoagulant activity on platelets, and if this activity persists, the recirculating platelets may contribute to subsequent thrombosis. We have developed techniques to degranulate human platelets by treatment with thrombin, and recover them as single, discrete platelets that aggregate in response to both weak and strong agonists.
