Detecting causal interrelationships in multivariate systems, in terms of the Granger-causality concept, is of major interest for applications in many fields. Analyzing all the relevant components of a system is almost impossible, which contrasts with the concept of Granger causality. Carbon price forecasting is significant to both policy makers and market participants. However, since the complex characteristics of carbon prices are affected by many factors, it may be hard for a single prediction model to obtain high-precision results. As a consequence, a new hybrid model based on multi-resolution singular value decomposition (MRSVD) and the extreme learning machine (ELM) optimized by moth–flame optimization (MFO) is proposed for carbon price prediction. First, through the augmented Dickey–Fuller test (ADF), cointegration test and Granger causality test, the external factor

Modeling the brain dependence network is central to understanding underlying neural mechanisms such as perception, action, and memory. In this study, we present a broad range of statistical methods for analyzing dependence in a brain network. Leveraging a combination of classical and cutting-edge approaches, we analyze multivariate hippocampal local field potential (LFP) time series data concentrating on the encoding of nonspatial olfactory information in rats. We present the strengths and limitations of each method in capturing neural dynamics and connectivity. Our analysis begins with explor

A growing number of studies are focusing on methods to estimate and analyze the functional connectome of the human brain. Graph theoretical measures are commonly employed to interpret and synthesize complex network-related information. While resting state functional MRI (rsfMRI) is often employed in this context, it is known to exhibit poor reproducibility, a key factor which is commonly neglected in typical cohort studies using connectomics-related measures as biomarkers. We aimed to fill this gap by analyzing and comparing the inter- and intra-subject variability of connectivity matrices, as

Abstract Resilience is a concept that reflects the ability to cope with change; sustainability is the ability to preserve the beneficial aspects associated with economic activity. Regarding the last decades, we assess the extent to which the resilience of sustainable tourism depends on labour market, economic growth, energy consumption, and renewable energy consumption. We used Granger causality applied to indicators correlated with sustainability (number of international tourism arrivals, labour force, GDP, total energy consumption, renewable energy consumption) for the period between 1995 an

This paper examines the volatility risk in the KSA stock market (Tadawul), with a specific focus on predicting volatility using the logarithm of the standard deviation of stock market prices (LSCP) as the output variable. To enhance volatility prediction, it proposes the combined use of the dynamic evolving neural fuzzy inference system (DENFIS) and the nonlinear spectral model, maximum overlapping discrete wavelet transform (MODWT). A total of 48 individuals with TIA and 41 age-matched and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs) were recruited for this study. The participants were scanned using MRI, and their clinical characteristics were collected. Emerging or diminishing nonlinear interactions in the evolution of a complex system may signal a possible structural change in its underlying mechanism. This type of structural break may exist in many applications, such as in climate and finance, and standard methods for change-point detection may not be sensitive to it. In this article, we present a novel scheme for detecting structural breaks through the occurrence or vanishing of nonlinear causal relationships in a complex system. A significance resampling test was developed for the null hypothesis (H0) of no nonlinear causal relationships

Objective: This study investigates the central cardiovascular network (CCVN) as a part of the CAN, during which heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SYS) and frontal EEG activity in 21 healthy subjects (CON) will be analysed.
