Background: Neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis [NEC], characterized by intestinal necrosis and pneumatosis intestinal, is the most common gastrointestinal emergency in the premature newborns[1] . The disease has an incidence rate of 2 to 5% in premature infants. The incidence rate increases to 13% in those weighing 1,500 gram at birth. NEC has a mortality rate of 10 to 55%. Objective: To determine the frequency of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm neonates along with their outcome during stay in hospital. The refutation power of SAT and MaxSAT resolution is challenged by problems like the soft and hard Pigeon Hole Problem PHP for which short refutations do not exist. In this paper we augment the MaxSAT resolution proof system with an extension rule. The new proof system MaxResE is sound and complete, and more powerful than plain MaxSAT resolution, since it can refute the soft and hard PHP in polynomial time. We show that MaxResE refutations actually subtract lower bounds from the objective function encoded by the formulas. The resulting formula is the residual after the lower bound extraction.

In contrast to the believed similarity in their health outcomes, workers in different Western countries report very different rates of work disability. Using new data from the United States and the Netherlands, we offer a partial resolution to this paradox. We find that observed differences in reported work disability largely stem from the fact that Dutch respondents have a lower threshold in reporting whether they have a work disability than American respondents. For those who do not suffer from pain, work disability is similar in both countries once thresholds are the same. For respondents w

AbstractObservations of dense stellar systems such as globular clusters (GCs) are limited in resolution by the optical aberrations induced by atmospheric turbulence (atmospheric seeing). At the example of holographic speckle imaging, we now study, to which degree image reconstruction algorithms are able to remove residual aberrations from a partial adaptive optics (AO) correction, such as delivered from ground-layer AO (GLAO) systems. Simultaneously, we study, how such algorithms benefit from being applied to pre-corrected instead of natural point-spread functions (PSFs). We find that using pa

After its discovery in 2000, a series of auger holes were drilled by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to determine the areal extent of the site. Drilling indicated that the fossils occurred in fill material within a paleokarst basin, but the distribution of boreholes does not permit details of sinkhole topography, and therefore its formation and fill history, to be adequately resolved. Detailed mapping of the sound field produced by a modern turbofan engine, with its multitude of overlapping noise sources, often requires a large number of microphones to properly resolve the directivity patterns of the constituent tonal and broadband components. This is especially true at high frequencies where the acoustic wavelength is short, or when shielding, scattering, and reflection of the sound field may be present due to installation effects. Abstract Detection of transverse cracks in laminated composites is important for the development and verification of damage-growth models. Historically, it has been assumed that the matrix cracks propagate all the way across the width of a test coupon. When this happens, the dye-penetrant technique works well for the detection of cracks. However, when a crack starts at one edge but does not run all the way across (a partial crack) or when the crack is totally internal, the dye-penetrant method does not give satisfactory results. Moreover, the dye-penetrant technique cannot be used for in-situ
