Abstract:
“Acceso directo”.

Abstract:
Most of the IP network traffic today consists of video content. In 2015 the videotraffic was estimated to be 70% of the Internet traffic and it is expected to rise past80% by 2020. The demand for high quality video, including high definition and ultrahigh definition, is steadily increasing with high resolution TV and computer monitorsbeing available to the general consumer. The video content streamed over theInternet have typically been compressed using a video encoder to reduce the bitsrequired to store and send the video. The increase of high resolution video contentalso requires updates to the video compression techniques. AVC is one of the mostcommonly used video compression standards, and its successor, HEVC, was able toachieve a 50% reduction of bitrate for the same perceived quality. Today there isongoing work to improve the compression efficiency of HEVC even further. Interpicture prediction, available in AVC and HEVC, is used to find redundant pixelsbetween adjacent frames in a video sequence and describe the movement of thepixels using motion vectors. This thesis focuses on exploring possible improvements to the inter prediction of thesuccessor to HEVC, currently under development, using low and high pass filteringwithin motion estimation and motion compensation to find potentially betterpredictions. The evaluation of the implemented filtering extension shows that themotion estimation and compensation filtering result can yield small benefits in somevideo sequences, with most of the video sequences in the test set resulting in smalllosses. There are still improvements to be made to the implementation, so there arepotentially more benefits to be gained by performing filtering within motionestimation and compensation.

Vaught, Dennis A. "Coach's dilemma: run versus pass." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 1987. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/43741.

Full text
Abstract:
The decision of run versus pass is of major importance to a football coach. This study focused on four situations: second down and short medium yardage for a first down; second down and long medium yardage for a first down; third down and short medium yardage for a first down; and third down and long medium yardage for a first down. Plays were taken off of a computer printout from the 1985 Virginia Tech Football team's statistics. Percentages of success and failure were taken to determine if a pattern could be established as to whether run or pass was more successful. These percentages were tested against a null hypothesis which stated that there would not be any difference in the success rate of run versus pass. Strength of schedule was taken into consideration. A Spearman rho (rank) correlation coefficient was computed for opponents' pre-season and post-season ranking. The study established that there was a significant difference in the success rate by using the run in the second down and short medium situation. This was also found to be true in the third down and short medium situation.

Abstract:
Bunces Pass is an unstructured tide-dominated inlet just north of the main entrance to Tampa Bay, Florida. The inlet has been stable for at least 130 years, as the size, shape, and orientation have remained unchanged. The morphological evolution of the Bunces Pass ebb-tidal delta is influenced by adjacent inlets. Historically, the ebb tidal delta was extremely large, due to the presence of the south channel of Pass-A-Grille Pass. As the tidal prism decreased through the south channel, the sheltering effect produced by the large ebb tidal delta diminished, and large volumes of sand began migrating shoreward. Sediment from the ebb tidal delta accreted along "the Reefs", formed both North Bunces Key and South Bunces Key, and accreted on Mullet Key south of the inlet. Tidal currents at Bunces Pass are primarily ebb-dominant during both summer and winter seasons, though there is flood dominance for several days during neap tides. The ebb dominance is primarily due to the large back-barrier embayment of Tampa Bay, which results in a spring ebb tidal prism of 2.02 x 107 m³. This tidal prism is more than 400 times the corresponding littoral drift. It is primarily responsible for maintaining the inlet's stability, as well as the development of its large ebb-tidal delta. Sediments from the ebb tidal delta at Bunces Pass reflect different degrees of wave versus tidal energy. The strongest tidal currents present throughout the entire ebb tidal delta complex mechanically weather shell gravel in the main channel, producing a shelly, fine quartz sand with relatively high amounts of shell gravel and carbonate sand. This sub-facies is also present on the north channel margin linear bar, due to the interaction of waves, tidal currents, and a southerly littoral drift along this coastal reach. Fine, quartz sand dominates the off shore and swash platform environments. The present situation at Bunces Pass shows a stabilized, tide-dominated inlet with a large, elongate ebb delta that is unlikely to change significantly in the future if present conditions are maintained. The prevalent ebb-dominance suggests that the inlet is hydraulically connected to the adjacent and much larger Egmont Channel inlet system, which also serves Tampa Bay. Strong ebb-tidal currents have kept Bunces Pass in dynamic equilibrium with its surrounding environment. The large ebb tidal prism is responsible for explaining how a tide-dominated inlet is maintained in a microtidal environment.

Abstract:
With the explosive development of wireless communication systems the specifications of the supporting hardware platforms have become more and more demanding. According to the long term goals of the industry, future communications systems should integrate a wide variety of standards. This leads to the idea of software defined radio, implemented on fully reconfigurable hardware.Among other reconfigurable hardware blocks, suitable for the software radio concept, an outstanding importance belongs to the reconfigurable filters that are responsible for the selectivity of the system. The problematic of filtering is strictly connected to the architecture chosen for a multi-mode receiver realization. According to the chosen architecture, the filters can exhibit low pass or band pass frequency responses. The idea of reconfigurable frequency parameters has been introduced since the beginning of modern filtering applications due to the required precision of the frequency response. However, the reconfiguration of the parameters was usually done in a limited range around ideal values. The purpose of the presented research is to transform the classical filter structures with simple self-correction into fully reconfigurable filters over a wide range of frequencies. The ideal variation of the frequency parameters is continuous and consequently difficult to implement in real circuits. Therefore, it is usually sufficient to use a discrete programming template with reasonably small steps. There are several methods to implement variable frequency parameters. The most often used programming templates employ resistor and capacitor arrays, switched according to a given code. The low pass filter implementation proposed in this work uses a special switching template, optimized for a quasi-linear frequency variation over logarithmic axes. The template also includes the possibility to compensate errors caused by component tolerances and temperature. Another important topic concerns the implementation of programmable band pass filters, suitable for IF sampling receivers. The discussion is centered on the feasibility and the flexibility of different band pass filter architectures. Due to the high frequency requirements, the emphasis lays on filters that employ transconductance amplifiers and capacitors

Horwitz, Mark H. "Morphodynamics and Sediment Pathways of the John's Pass-Blind Pass Dual-Inlet System: Pinellas County, Florida." Scholar Commons, 2017. http://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/6864.

Abstract:
The morphodynamics of an inlet channel draining an estuary or bay are governed by a complex system of temporally and spatially varying physical processes, including wind, waves, tides, sediment transport, and both tide and wave driven currents. In addition, sediment availability and characteristics in conjunction with underlying geologic framework bear on the morphology and morphologic behavior of an inlet system. This study examines the morphodynamics, sediment transport patterns and time-series morphologic change of John’s Pass and Blind Pass, two structured tidal inlets that collectively make up a dual-inlet system sharing the tidal prism of northern Boca Ciega Bay, in Pinellas County, Florida. To quantify wave and tidal forcing and response mechanisms an array of hydrodynamic sensors were deployed over a 12 month period at both inshore and offshore locations. In order to capture morphologic changes and quantify volumetric changes within the inlets, bathymetric surveys of the inlets were conducted in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014. Similarly, bi-monthly beach survey data for the same range of time was acquired in order to quantify volumetric changes along adjacent stretches of beach. In addition to gaining insights into sediment pathways based on morphologic and volumetric variability, those data were also used to develop a regional sediment budget along the studied stretch of coast. To gain insights into the morphodynamics of the dual-inlet system, bathymetric and hydrodynamic data was used to develop a numerical model of the dual inlet system. Numerical model simulations based on existing or baseline conditions were compared with numerical simulations employing synthetic bathymetric and hydrodynamic conditions in order to examine inlet behavior under a range of different morphological and hydrodynamic conditions. John’s Pass is the dominant of the two inlets. It exhibits mixed-energy straight morphology and captures ca 81% of the available tidal prism. The inlet has a well-developed mature ebb shoal, and actively bypasses sediment from one side of the inlet to the other supplying sediment to the downdrift littoral system. Blind Pass captures less than 20% of the available tidal prism, and while also exhibiting mixed-energy morphologic characteristics has a less well developed ebb shoal that currently has not fully established a sediment bypassing system. Both inlets channels and ebb shoals have been dredged on multiple occasions to provide sediment for the nourishment of nearby chronically eroding stretches of beach. Dredge pits excavated along the distal margins of the ebb shoals are infilling at rates substantially slower than expected due to limited sediment transport along those regions of the ebb shoal, while inlet channel dredge pits infill at rapid and expected rates. The objective of this study was to characterize the morphodynamics of the dual-inlet system with the aim of identifying sediment pathways and bypassing mechanisms, and quantify a balanced regional sediment budget in order to design more sustainable approaches to inlet management.

Abstract:
The objective of this thesis investigation is to find by computer optimization methods alternate passive realizations for the double resistance terminated low pass Butterworth filters for the third through the tenth order. A second goal is to explain why they exist and to explore other means to derive them. The iterative optimization search performed uses the GOSPEL computer program. New realizations found by this method are presented. Aspects of error and accuracy are discussed as well as a figure of merit test which confirms the validity of the results. Alternate filter realizations produced by selection of left-half-plane zeros for the power reflection coefficient are discussed and a detailed example using this process is performed.

Abstract:
This dissertation contributes to the theoretical and empirical understandings of international transmissions of exchange rate shocks. It consists of three chapters. The first chapter extends Corsetti and Dedola (2005) and further allows for competition in retail networks. In the model, there are four types of firms interacting with each other including retailing manufacturers, non-retailing manufacturers, specialised retailers and nontradable good producers. The equilibrium depends on the interaction among these four types of firms, which leads to a dynamic and incomplete exchange rate pass through (ERPT) depending on the firms’ share of retail networks. With the standard calibration, the model can generate a high (4-5) long-run trade elasticity without conflicting with a low (0.5-1) short-run elasticity, suggesting that the dynamics of retail networks offer a potential explanation of the trade elasticity puzzle. Chapter 2 investigates the ERPT of Chinese exporters. We propose an estimator that utilises orthogonal dimensions to control for unobserved marginal costs and estimate destination specific markup adjustments to bilateral and multilateral exchange rate shocks. Our estimates suggest that the cost channel accounts for roughly 50% of conventional EPRT estimates. We offer new channels of heterogeneity in firms’ pricing behaviour and provide supporting evidence on the international pricing system. Chapter 3 aims to bridge the gap between theoretical and empirical works on ERPT. I propose a machine learning algorithm that systematically detects the determinants of ERPT. The proposed algorithm is designed to work directly with highly disaggregated firm-level customs trade databases as well as publicly available commodity trade flow datasets. Tested on the simulated data from a realistic micro-founded multi-country trade model, my algorithm is proven to have accuracies around 95% and 80% in simple and complex scenarios respectively. Applying the algorithm to China’s customs data from 2000 to 2006, I document new evidence on the nonlinear relationships among market structures, unit value volatility and ERPT.

High strength, corrosion resistance, ductility, and toughness are material properties required for United States Navy (USN) Propellers. Propellers for both surface ships and submarines in the USN are currently made from cast Nickel Aluminum Bronze (NAB) Wrought NAB exhibits strength, corrosion resistance, high dampening capacity, low friction coefficients, and good fracture toughness for a wide range of temperatures [1]. Casting NAB into large structures lowers some of the qualities seen in wrought material and sought after for the propellers. After casting, some of the structure exhibits high porosity and an undesirable grain structure. Friction Stir Processing (FSP) can be used to refine grain structures and remove pores created during casting. This would reduce or eliminate the need for heat treatment and fusion welding currently being used to prepare Navy propellers. Orientation imaging microscopy was used to aid understanding of friction stir process's effects on grain structure evolution and processes of recrystallization in Nickel Aluminum Bronze. Observations were made about the grain orientation, size, and texture within the stir zone, thermal-mechanically affected zone, and the heat-affected zone for both a single-pass and a multi pass processed pieces of bronze.

(cont.) ridership growth induced by UAP programs. The lessons learned are then applied in form of a university pass program at the MBTA in Boston, suggesting program designs, pricing alternatives and estimating impacts on the transit agency, universities and unlimited access pass holders.
Unlimited Access Pass (UAP) Programs--arrangements between transit agencies and universities that provide transit passes to group members at a heavily discounted rate through a group purchase program--have become a successful tool to increase ridership and decrease vehicle miles traveled (VMT) and parking demand while yielding an equivalent fare value to transit agencies. Due to the prepaid and discounted nature of the pass these programs level the playing field between the automobile and transit by virtually eliminating the perceived out-of-pocket cost of taking transit. In addition, by capturing the cross-subsidies within a functional entity, such as a university or employer, this technique has the potential to internalize the otherwise external benefits of transit use, such as reduced pressure on limited amount of expensive parking supplies and access roads. It thereby achieves a "win-win" outcome for all of the primary affected groups, while maintaining equitable revenues, increasing ridership and improving off-peak utilization. Despite the apparent success of such programs, particularly with university students, many agencies, especially the largest ones in the United States, have not offered this type of university program, let alone considered a larger scale program targeting different market segments, such as hospitals or other large employers. Drawing on case studies of three agencies that offer successful university and employer UAP programs, this thesis shows that innovative program design allows the agencies to address the most common concerns. It examines why and how UAP programs work and provides a set of implementation guidelines including a recommended pricing model that allows for an equitable and effective way of capturing revenue increases related to

Abstract:
In this study, we aim to investigate the impact of inflation targeting (IT) and the recent global disinflation on exchange rate pass-through (ERPT) using quarterly data from 1980:1 to 2009:1 for 51 industrial and emerging market (EM) countries. To this end, we employ not only the conventional panel data estimation methods but also the recent Common Correlated Effects Pooled estimation procedure by Pesaran (2006) which allows estimating the impact of common global shocks such as global inflation. We also explore some other determinants of ERPT during the recent global disinflation period. Furthermore, we consider asymmetric effects of positive and negative output gaps as proxies for domestic demand conditions on ERPT for IT industrial and EM countries. Our results strongly suggest that, for the non-IT samples, ERPT is significantly higher in EM countries than industrial countries. For every country groups excluding Euro area countries, we find that ERPT declined substantially during the recent global disinflation period. The decline in the ERPT is, however, much higher in IT countries especially in EM ones. One striking result is the convergence of ERPT coefficients of EM countries to industrial IT countries with the adoption of IT. This supports the endogenous response of ERPT to monetary policy credibility and price stability. Consequently, a high ERPT, per se, may be interpreted as not a binding constraint for the adoption of IT as it tends to decline with the success of monetary policy regime. We also find that ERPT appears to be more sensitive to positive output gaps in IT industrial countries whilst it does not have such a response to positive or negative output gaps in IT emerging market countries.

It is often said that we live in a network society. Increased familiarity with technical networks has brought the concept to the forefront of public imagination making the network a dominant trope. Whether inherent or ascribed, topologies seem to appear in social theories, transportation systems, technological structures and biological systems to name only a few examples. Often descriptions of networks combine semantics reflecting both conceptual and physical meaning. Regardless of content, be it conceptualization of power, information between computers, relationships between people or neurons; networks rely on topologies and protocols that locate nodes in relation to one another. In the field of technology certain networks are apparent - the internet and the world wide web constitute easily identifiable examples. In the social sciences, descriptions of relationships between people and even of self identity lend nicely to nodes, edges, curves and vertices. In the blurring of boundaries between disciplines the language of the network also becomes a node of interconnection. Technology, sociology, and various branches of theory reference each other in a search for deeper meaning within disciplines.
(cont.) Protocols for Alternative Sexuality and Sensibility or PASS is a wireless networked system designed to function with a multidisciplinary description of a network in mind, incorporating conceptual implications and technical implementation of networking. PASS is a system which visibly tracks connections in public space based on the embodiment of protocols associated with sexual identity. These user configured devices exchange information with other devices in order to uncover the often hidden interconnections created by the internalization of sexual identity. Sexual identity is represented by several alternative paradigms in addition to the culturally predicated homosexual/heterosexual binary. The resulting connections are made visible via independent graphical displays that indicate the various paradigms and connections at play. PASS shows how dominant cultural networks necessitate counter spaces which exist simultaneously in time and space with the hegemonic structures. It is in the revealing of these alternative spaces that I seek a technology of resistance; by connecting people in these counter spaces we create dynamic modes for understanding the influence of normativity and the experience of otherness. The physical representation of these theories reveal the hegemonic protocol structures of interconnection which we internalize as social norms.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Inspired by an old Chinese game, Go, we have designed a new graphical password scheme, Pass-Go, in which a user selects intersections on a grid as a way to input a password. While offering an extremely large password space (256 bits for the most basic scheme), our scheme provides acceptable usability, as empirically demonstrated by, to the best of our knowledge, the largest user study (167 subjects involved) on graphical passwords, conducted in the fall semester of 2005 in two university classes. Our scheme supports most application environments and input devices, rather than being limited to small mobile devices (PDAs), and can be used to derive cryptographic keys. We study the memorable password space and show the potential power of this scheme by exploring further improvements and variation mechanisms. We believe that Pass-Go could be a solid platform for future research and study.

Walsh, Andrew Timothy. "Engineering Geomorphological Assessment and Slope Hazard Identification of the Haast Pass Highway Corridor, State Highway Six, Haast Pass New Zealand." Thesis, University of Canterbury. Geological Sciences, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10092/10575.

Abstract:
The Haast Pass highway has had a long history of instability since it was constructed in 1960. Steep slopes and deeply incised river create an actively changing geomorphic environment making maintaining the highway corridor hazardous and difficult. This thesis study provides the first comprehensive investigation of the highway corridor between the Summit and Thunder Creek Falls using LiDAR and detailed air-photo analysis to provide the basis for geomorphic mapping. Management of slope hazards to date has been based on a reactive approach treating the immediate unstable areas around landslides after they occur. This study presents the first large-scale geomorphological assessment of the highway corridor identifying surface unit type, slope processes and slope hazards in order to facilitate the development of a long-term highway management strategy. Because dense vegetation covers nearly all the slopes above the highway in the study area as as such, it has not been possible to adequately investigate slope geomorphology until the availability of LiDAR. This study is the first to use Light direction and ranging[LiDAR] for corridor hazard mapping beneath dense vegetation in New Zealand. The LiDAR survey was flown by New Zealand Aerial Mapping in January 2014 for the New Zealand Transport Agency and was provided for use in this study. The LiDAR surface model created serves as the basis for mapping surface units and landslide features, enabling the identification of slope processes and landslide hazards. Aerial photos were also used to identify surface unit type and slope processes where vegetation was absent and enabled the activity of slopes to be evaluated. Interpretations made using LiDAR were validated using aerial photography and targeted ground truthing with all ground truthing sites confirming the interpretations made. Large scale geomorphology mapping was undertaken on slopes above the highway on the western side of the valley and showed that there were distinct differences between the southern and northern parts of the highway corridor. Between The Haast Pass Summit and Pipson Creek the slopes are dominated by schist bedrock with regolith confined to small deposits next to the highway and larger deposits in tributary valleys. The slope hazards affecting the highway in this zone are confined to debris sliding and rockfall from regolith deposits and bedrock cliffs next to the highway between Robinson and Pipson Creeks. The slopes between Pipson Creek and the Gates of Haast, in contrast, consist of deep regolith deposits and regolith veneered slopes. Evidence of active and recently active slope processes on the slopes facing the highway confirm the instability is associated with slope hazards including debris flows, debris slides, rock fall and highway collapse. Small-scale detailed evaluations were undertaken at Diana Falls, Ford Creek, The Hinge and the Gates of Haast with the sites selected based on their history of instability and/or their particu- larly hazardous appearance during the large-scale geomorphology and hazard identification. Using the LiDAR surface model surface units and landslide features were identified and mapped with small-scale engineering geomorphology maps. This information was then used to interpret the subsurface geometry and the failure mode/slope processes acting on the slope enabling an assessment of the current stability and future slope development to be made. Diana Falls was found to have scarps and tension cracks running across the regolith covered slope indicating that future landslides from this site will be an ongoing problem. At Ford Creek the landslide was identified as a rock compound slide, but assessments of its current stability and future development were unable to be made. Detailed investigations at The Hinge revealed evidence of a large creeping debris slide and the existence smaller debris slides below the highway through the entire investigation area; the debris slides identified show signs of activity and continued debris sliding will continue to affect the highway in the future. The investigation of the Gates of Haast revealed that the slope instability is not as extensive as it has been in the past, however, recent rock slides and debris flows have continued affect the highway and will continue to pose a hazard in the future. This thesis provides fundamental information required to develop a comprehensive management plan for the Haast Pass highway corridor between the Haast Pass summit and the Gates of Haast. A new landslide management plan has been developed outlining immediate, short-term and long- term options and programmes that should be implemented. Immediate options are steps that can be taken to quickly increase the safety of road users and include moving of highway closure gates and installation of warning signage. Short-term options aim to mitigate landslide hazards where feasible including the installation of rockfall barriers and debris flow attenuators, and lay the groundwork for future avoidance of hazards by undertaking investigations of highway realignment and developing highway closure rainfall thresholds. Long-term options are recommended where landslides will continue to impact the same section of the highway repeatedly and focus on hazard avoidance by building landslide shelters or major highway realignments. The adoption of a management plan ensures security of the highway, protects against loss of life and provides the most cost effective long-term solution to manage the landsliding hazards.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Tri-state structures are used to implement multiplexers and buses because these structures are faster than AND/OR logic structures. But testing of tri-state structures has some issues associated with it. A stuck open control line of a tri-state gate will cause some lines in the circuit to float and take unknown values. A stuck-on control line can cause fighting when the two drivers connected to the same node drive different values. This thesis develops new gate level fault models and dynamic test patterns that take care of these problems. The models can be used with traditional stuck-at and transition fault automatic test pattern generation (ATPG) to ensure high fault coverage. This research focuses on producing good test coverage with reduced effort for tristate and pass transistor structures. We do circuit level modeling to help develop and validate gate level models, which can be used in production ATPG. We study the two primary effects of interest, capacitive coupling and leakage, and analyze the tri-state structures using these two effects. Coupling and leakage can cause a Z or X state to be seen as 0 or 1 in some cases. We develop parameterized models of behavior of common structures using these effects and some parameters such as number of fan-ins. We also develop gate level models of tri-state circuits that would replace the tri-state library cells in the ATPG engine. This work develops a methodology to make tri-state and pass transistor circuit structures more usable in the industry.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Due to the rapid progress in the field of VLSI, improvements in speed, power and area are quite evident. Research and development in this field are motivated by growing markets of portable mobile devices such as personal multimedia players, cellular phones, digital camcorders and digital cameras. Among the recently popular logic families, pass transistor logic is promising for low power applications as compared to conventional static CMOS because of lower transistor count. This thesis proposes four novel designs for Booth encoder and selector logic using pass logic principles. These new designs are implemented and used to build a 64 x 64-bit multiplier. The proposed Booth encoder and selector logic are competitive with the existing and shows substantial reduction in transistor count. It also shows improvements in delay when compared to two of the three published works.

Abstract This theory realized a voltage-mode second-order Butterworth filter contains low-pass, band-pass, high-pass and notch in the high frequency. In this circuit design, using OTRA to be the main active components that is the dual element of OTA . Operational Trans-Resistance Amplifier (Abbreviation: OTRA) have a Characteristic is virtual grounded at input extremities, it can reduce the parasitic effect for achieve the high accurate output signal. Using node analysis design method, we propose two Operational Trans-Resistance Amplifier and three capacitors, and four resistors, and the circuit is independent control. The simulation of this paper uses H-Spice with TSMC035 level 49 process to obtain the results, and compared with the theoretical by MATLAB., and then analyze the sensitivity of the active components for frequency response. We find this circuit have the advantage is low sensitivity, and consider the non-ideal effect of the active component to investigate the reason of distortion at high frequency. By analysis the gain-frequency from Rm, and simulate the circuit by using low pass model from Rm in MATLAB, find it is not enough to resolve, so add the band pass model from Rm, find it is because the inside non-ideal by OTRA . Then, we transform the resistor by MOS, because of it will improve the resistors in IC process is difficult for exactly manufacture and big size, besides the circuit still have high accurate output signal, but it still have the problem of distortion, consider the same reason ,find it is the same with the part of resistor . Finally, concluded this paper to explore a variety of better design in the future.

It is worthy of research to do the analogue circuit design using Operational Transconductance Amplifiers (OTAs) and Capacitors (Cs) because an OTA is equivalent to both an active element and a resistor leading to a more condensed integrated circuit without resistors ,and because the equivalent resistor value can be electronically tuned varying the bias current. Due to the difficulty to precisely fabricate the capacitance in integrated circuits, it becomes an important research work to find a tunable element for the replacement of the capacitor used to realize the s terms in transfer functions. The input-and-output relationship of an Operational Amplifier (OA) is shown as below. in which is the gain, the bandwidth , and the product of both gain and bandwidth . It is exhibited that, an OA can also be used to realize the s terms in transfer functions. Hence, the question is:“Is the variable , as he transconductance of an OTA , or not” ? In this thesis , we have found that the is variable tuning either the bias current or the inner compensation capacitance of an OA just like the variation of the trancondance of an OTA through the tuning of its bias current. Abstract:
My topic is the question 'Does time pass?'. Although much has been written in attempts to answer this question, not enough attention has been paid to the asking of the question itself. As a result, it has not been clear exactly what is at issue in this matter, and, consequently, it has not been clear just what are the different views available to one who wishes to give an answer to the question. I hope to ameliorate this situation. The aims of my essay are: (i) to state the issues involved in the controversy over temporal passage in a fruitful way; (ii) to formulate what I see as the leading candidates among the possible responses to those issues; and (iii) to consider the best arguments relevant to the choice among these alternative views. Roughly one-quarter of the essay is devoted to linguistic questions about time and tense. Another quarter is devoted to metaphysical matters involving the status of such putative properties as pastness, presentness and futurity. What emerge are not just two but, rather, five distinct views about whether or not time passes: one view, which I call the 4D view, to the effect that time does not pass, and four different views, which I call the 3D views, to the effect that time does pass. Each of these five views consists of a package of linguistic and metaphysical components. Once I have formulated these five different views, I present, for each of the five views, a formal language, with semantics, that would be appropriate for that view. Next, various arguments that have been suggested in the literature against the claim that time passes are considered as arguments against the 3D views; each such argument is found to be defective. Similarly, various arguments that have been suggested in the literature against the claim that time does not pass are considered as arguments against the 4D view; each of these arguments is also found to be defective. Finally, I explain why I prefer a certain one of the 3D views over its four rivals, and I consider some possible objections to that view.

In the sports market millions of euros are transacted annually causing an impact on countries' economies. Football is the sport that attracts more spectators and has greater visibility and media exposure, through prizes won and investments in player hirings. One of the main forms of club's financing is the revenue generated by ticket selling and, in advance, the revenue generated from the sale of the season tickets, more precisely, the Red Pass. The present study proposes the analysis of the sport's consumer profile, analyzing the factors that influence the non-renewal of Red Pass and the factors that influence the new subscriptions of the same. The first stage of this study was carried out by using primary sources (questionnaires) and secondary sources (internal and external) to analyze the profile of consumers, their consumption behaviors and their motivations. This analysis results in two conclusions: the determinants for the non-renewal of the Red Pass are the impossibility of going to the stadium, or do not want to watch the majority of the games, the significant increase of the season tickets' price and the decrease of the disposable income of the household. Regarding the determinants for the Red Pass subscription these are: the will to attend of all the games support the team and their success, the lowest cost and do not having to buy single tickets.

Filter is an essential component in communication system. It is always implemented by distributed elements at micro- and millimeter- wave frequencies, and distributed elements are usually made by microstrip-line and coplanar-waveguide because of their planar characteristics which make them easy to connect with other circuit components. In this study, various microstrip and coplanar-waveguide filters will be implemented, together with the designs in accordance with their features. The conventional quarter-wavelength edge-coupled filter will be modified, and the notch performance will also be improved. The area of modified filter is the same compared with the conventional ones, the notch characteristic becomes better at both high and low frequencies, and the insertion loss is also the same. The bandpass filters with center frequencies at 28GHz and 38GHz can be achieved by this structure. A broadband coplanar-waveguide filter will be proposed based on the novel shunt short stubs and series open stubs. Completely different from the conventional filters, the shunt stubs of proposed filter are located at center main CPW, and the series stubs are located at two ground planes of CPW. The proposed filter has less bound wire compared with the conventional one, so that the cost of fabrication can be reduced. The two proposed planar filters are both easy to fabricate and compact, they are suitable for communication systems.

The multi-pass ring cavity was constructed using only a pair of identical spherical mirrors, which is compact and can easily be aligned. The spatial hole burning effect and green problem can be eliminated in these ring cavities that can be applied to generate a single frequency laser. The characteristics of multi-pass non-planar and planar multi-pass ring cavities were analyzed, such as the reentrant conditions and cavity stability. The multi-pass ring lasers were successfully demonstrated by the reentrant condition simulations, the cavity length error between experimental result and simulation value were below 1.2%. Yb3+:YAG was used as the gain medium in this dissertation, it has many advantages compared with that of Nd3+:YAG. Such as high doping concentration, low quantum defect, long upper state lifetime, broad emission bandwidth and its wide absorption band. However, the quasi-three-level nature of Yb3+:YAG makes temperature control crucial for laser performance. A Ti:sapphire laser pumped Yb3+:YAG bulk crystal multi-pass continuous-wave ring laser was demonstrated with a slope efficiency of 50.3%, and a Yb3+:YAG crystal fiber ring laser was demonstrated with a slope efficiency of 54.7%. The thermal load in Yb3+:YAG was observed and compared with that of Nd3+:YAG. The passively Q-switched operation was obtained by a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber. Due to the ring cavity configuration, the spontaneous noise from gain medium perturbs the population difference of the saturable absorber was reduced so that the timing jitter of the repetition period was restrained to around 11% while 33 ns pulses were obtained. A compact diode-pumped continuous-wave ring cavity with 25.0% slope efficiency was presented. Two main challenges are noticed in the high power laser diode end pumped configuration, mode-matching difficulty and huge heat load. The mode-matching problem can be solved by an appropriate cavity design, the laser-heated pedestal growth (LHPG) method was used to growth Yb3+:YAG crystal fiber with small surface to improve the heat dissipation. The fiber crystal laser was successfully generated and compared with that of bulk crystal. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a Yb3+:YAG ring laser, and also the first demonstration of Yb3+:YAG crystal fiber ring laser.

In this study, both narrow-band and broad-band coplanar waveguide (CPW) band-pass filters are carefully examined, theoretically and experimentally. To implement the narrow-band band-pass filters, an edge-coupled quarter-wavelength (λ/4) transmission-line section is adopted to replace the gap-capacitance and the λ/4 line segment in the conventional capacitance-coupled half-wavelength (λ/2) filters and LC-coupled λ/4 filters. This makes the design process simpler than the conventional one. This study also proposes a novel λ/4 CPW coupled-line broad-band band-pass filter which has the attenuation poles in the upper and lower rejection bands. Specifically, the upper rejection band characteristic may be adjusted by controlling the gap-capacitance through a design formula, and the lower rejection band response may be improved by incorporating open stubs into the filter circuit.

The complementary split ring resonators with a novel C-shaped coupling presented the high coupling efficiency are introduced for designing high performance high-pass filter in this thesis. Meantime, the variations of C-shaped coupling radius ratio in CSRR-based high-pass filter are studied for optimization the performance to achieve the desired responses. The modified equivalent circuit model is proposed for analyzing with characteristic simulation and discussion. For practical CSRR-based HPF with C-shaped coupling, the results with 3-dB cut-off frequency at fc=1.809 GHz, maximum IL within 0.273 dB up to 8 GHz and 60.71-dB high rejection extended down to 0.587GHz are achieved. The methodology included surface current distributions, frequency responses and equivalent circuits are used for design and analysis.

In this thesis, we propose to remove rain streaks by high pass and low pass filter method of combination. In the image, the low frequency component is background and the high frequency components are contour and rain streaks by combining high pass and low pass filters. The method which we proposed can remove rain and keep the original background and contour. First, we reduce impact of rain streaks by smooth filter (LPF). The rain streaks component is the difference between the original image and smooth filtered image. After that, through threshold process and adjust parameters to change for level of removing rain image. Second, in order to highlight contour for image, e.g. edge image, this is generated by high pass filter. The image enhancement is obtained by sum of edge image and original image. Finally, by implementing ROM filter from difference of the rain streaks component and the image enhancement generate a removal rain image. In this thesis, the results of our research are as follows: 1. We highlight rain streaks components, background components and contour of image in image by a simple combination for high pass and low pass filter method. After that, use ROM filter to generate removing rain image. 2. We can adjust parameter to change for level of removing rain image.

In this paper, we use single-layered frequency selective surfaces to design band-pass frequency selective shielding design for WLAN. We use four kinds of loop type element: four-legged loaded element, hexagon element, square element and circular element. We’ll find the advantage of each element and common design rules according to the simulation results. Use simulation software to design and calculate the shielding effectiveness and passband transmittance with simulation results. And we use 1.6mm FR4 to build above FSS elements and measure the S-parameters by network analyzer to verify the accuracy of simulation. This paper will also compare the results of simulation and measurement, and discuss the relationship between the perimeter of loop elements and wavelength at resonant frequency.

Communication network become the most important activity of the people. Since the telephone was invented, peoples can communicate by telephone whenever they want in anywhere. In the 21st century, Internet Telephony is the most important application of Internet because of its high-quality voice and low cost. SIP is also the most important VoIP protocol for call signaling using in Internet Telephony system because it is so simple and easy to implement. It is usefulness of interoperability within various devices. Thus, the 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) has selected SIP as the core protocol for session establishment. However, SIP-signaling is usually broken by NAT. Thus, how to establish a way for SIP packets passing through NATs becomes an important matter in this field. In order to solve this problem we try to design three mechanisms: (i) Registrar-side mechanism (ii) Proxy-side mechanism and (iii) STUN-like server. Finally, we implement our mechanisms and show how it works.
