Les données in-situ recueillies lors du projet Drake ont permis d’aborder différents aspects de la circulation du Courant Circumpolaire Antarctique dans le Passage de Drake. En Janvier-Février 2006, deux sections hydrographiques de haute résolution ont été réalisées en trois semaines sous la trace 104 du satellite altimétrique Jason-1. This thesis examines Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) circulation and the mechanisms of meridional heat transport in Drake Passage. In order to achieve these goals we used in situ measurements collected during the DRAKE project (from January 2006 to March 2009; DRAKE 2006-9), available observations from the historical DRAKE 79 experiment, satellite altimetry data (since 1993) and high resolution model outputs (ORCA 12, MERCATOR). The Eocene-Oligocene boundary marked the transition from a very warm to a much cooler global climate, and the first appearance of large ice sheets in Antarctica. During the 1740’s, Hudson Bay went from an obscure backwater of the British Empire to a locus of colonial ambition. Arthur Dobbs revitalized Northwest Passage exploration, generating new information about the region’s environment and indigenous peoples.
