The purpose of this article is to examine factors that influence passengers' decision in selecting an airport in a multiple airport system (MAS). This article focuses on a MAS in China consisting of two airports that directly compete with each other in serving domestic and international passengers in the same area. A survey was conducted in the Beijing area to collect the data, and a logistic regression was used to test the effects of these factors on the passenger choice. The results indicate that airfare is the most significant determinant of Beijing passengers' airport choice, followed by flight delay.

In-flight safety videos are used in the commercial aviation industry as a regulatory act set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). As passenger safety is considered top priority for the government entity, it is essential that the in-flight safety briefings are presented in all commercial airlines to ensure that passengers on board are aware of safety procedures in case of an unfavorable emergency. However, passengers have reported these pre-safety briefings to be considered boring and repetitive, and are sometimes ignored. The purpose of this paper is to explore in-flight safety videos presented to passengers as a form of marketing, for numerous airlines ranging from premium to budget airlines. Given the exploratory nature of this study, secondary data will be collected using a literature search. In addition, content analysis of numerous in-flight videos from various commercial airlines will also be explored.

Data regarding people and their activities have been collected over the years, which has become more pervasive with widespread usage of the Internet. Collected data usually are stored in data warehouses, and powerful data mining tools are used to turn it into competitive advantage. Besides businesses, government agencies are among the most ambitious data collectors, especially in regard to the increase of safety threats coming from global terrorist organizations. For example, CAPPS (Computer Assisted Passenger Prescreening System) collects flight reservation information as well as commercial information about passengers. This data, in turn, can be utilized by government security agencies. Although CAPPS represents US national data collection efforts, it also has an effect on other countries. The following sign at the KLM ticket desk in Amsterdam International Airport illustrates the international level of data collection efforts: “Please note that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and other airlines are required by new security laws in the US and several other countries to give security customs and immigration authorities access to passenger data. Accordingly, any information we hold about you and your travel arrangements may be disclosed to the concerning authorities of these countries in your itinerary.” This is a very striking example of how the confidential data belonging to citizens of one country could be handed over to authorities of some other country via newly enforced security laws. In fact, some of the largest airline companies in the US, including American, United, and Northwest, turned over millions of passenger records to the FBI, according to the New York Times (Schwartz & Maynard, 2004).

In the airline industry, the term load factor defined as the percentage of seats filled by revenue passengers and is used to measure efficiency and performance. This metric evaluates the airlines capacity and demand management. This paper applies stochastic models to analyse the load factor of the Association European Airlines (AEA) for flights of Europe - North Africa and Europe- Sub Saharan Africa. The estimation result prevails that the airlines have better demand management in the flights of Europe- Sub Saharan Africa than in the flight of Europe - North Africa. However, the capacity management of the airlines is poor for both regional flights. The autocorrelation structures for the load factor for both regional flights have both periodic and serial correlations. Consequently, the use of ordinal panel data models is inappropriate to capture the necessary variation of the load factor of the regional flights. Therefore, in order to control for the periodic autocorrelation, the author introduces dynamic time effects panel data regression model. Furthermore, in order to eliminate serial correlation the author applies the Prais–Winsten methodology to fit the model. Finally, the author builds realistic and robust forecasting model of the load factor of the Europe- North Africa and Europe-Sub Saharan Africa flights.

Revenue management is the art and science of making the right product or service available to the right customer at the right time through the right channel at right price. Dynamic pricing plays a crucial role in the implementation of revenue management in passenger airline reservation system. The liberalization of domestic aviation sector in countries such as India has seen many new market entrants resulting in higher competition while setting the flight fares. The variation in flight fares of Delhi – Mumbai passenger airline sector is studied for a departure date based on the number of days in advance the booking is made. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses of the fares reveal the impact of airlines, booking channels and departure time windows on the pricing decisions of flight fares. The analysis framework of this study could be used as a basis for a continuous tracking study of flight fares by airline revenue managers to help them arrive at the right fare for each fare class of a flight.

Many of the findings within the data have generated more questions than answers; but in doing so, illuminated several paths of further investigation that may provide greater insights into the complexities of stabilizing troubled states. This chapter then, is a starting point on a journey to discover more effective means to deliver humanitarian and development aid to conflicted societies without doing greater harm in the process. Holland discusses the utility of flight simulators in helping commercial airline pilots experience a variety of scenarios that would be unthinkable to expose passengers to in the real world. The value of the pilot's experience in the simulator depends on how closely the simulator matches the aircraft it models. With even greater numbers of lives and resources at stake, utilizing agent-based modeling as a policy simulator would allow leaders to experiment with numerous response and intervention strategies in a very short period of time.

Rotary wing aircrafts in any flight conditions suffer from excessive vibration which makes the passengers feel uncomfortable and causes fatigue failure in the structure. The main sources of vibration are the rotor harmonic airloads which originate primarily from the rapid variation of flow around the blade due to the vortex wake. Unlike fixed wing aircrafts, helicopter wake consists of helical vortex sheets trailed behind each blade and remains under the rotor disk which induces vertical downwash velocities at chordwise and spanwise stations of the blade. Using data from an enumerated network of worldwide flight connections between airports, we examine how sampling designs and sample size influence network metrics. Specifically, we apply three types of sampling designs: simple random sampling, nonrandom strategic sampling (i.e., selection of the largest airports), and a variation of snowball sampling.
