Abstract:
This article concerns about family thread in description of Perpetuae’s martyrdom in 3rd century Carthage. It describes Perpetuae’s family structure, family form upper strata of Roman Africa society, but not from aristocracy. The main function has father but almost equal in prestige is his daughter – Perpetua. Her husband was not mention text did not mention, except from the fact of being a father. Similar faint role have two living brothers. Story focus more on the youngest dead brother, that died in torment from deceased. Author suggest that Perpetua form unknown reason have advantage in prestige above her pagan father, implements, from her martyrdom, plan for salvation all of her family. This “altruistic” plan is to shorten posthumous torments for not baptise brother and to end members of family dilemma, torn between new religion and tradition. It makes Perpetua, a heroic person, that sacrifice upbringing of her child for the sake of rest family. This text’s meaning is rather exceptional for the early Christian literature and it definitely exclude authorship from Tertullian because of his view on women.

Abstract:
The martyrs whose suffering and death is recorded in the Passio Sanctarum Perpetuae et Felicitatis have been revered for almost two millennia. The Church has signaled its high regard with the inclusion of Perpetua and Felicitas in the canon missae. The praise for these young Carthaginian converts was immediate. Beginning with Tertullian and including luminaries like Augustine and Quodvuldeus, leaders of the African church acknowledged these youthful Christians as models of Christian self-sacrifice; their triumph, the courage of spirit over the dread of death. For Tertullian, their act of confident self-immolation was the apogee of Christian fortitude. In his discussion of the location of the eternal dwelling place for those who die in Christ, Tertullian, in De Anima, called the young Roman woman Vibia Perpetua “the most courageous martyr” of the Church. His comment, at least partly intended to stiffen the resolve of his threatened congregation, is difficult to reconcile with the normative status accorded at this time to the figure of Stephen in Acts (cf. Acts 6–7). His remark might be a flight of characteristic hyperbole. It might suggest, however, that the traditional role of the proto-martyr Stephen was not yet canonical in Carthage. Conversely, if Tertullian has already moved from orthodoxy, it might represent a deliberate attempt on his part to elevate the narrative of the Passio over the incident in Acts, thus privileging Montanist belief in the power of the Holy Spirit's continuing revelation. There is certainly evidence for the latter position in the anonymous editor's opening remarks in the Passio itself.

Abstract:
Abstract The present article attempts to discuss the relationship between time and gender in the Acta Pauli et Theclae and the Passio Perpetuae et Felicitatis. By analyzing both the temporal perception in the narrative and the construction of time through a series of narratological devices, I will focus on how specific notions of time that emerged in the early centuries of the Christian era proved to be a key factor in shaping women’s agency. Building on this evidence, I aim to identify a set of key features that may define the relationship between eschatology and the role of women in early Christianity. The figures of Thecla, Perpetua and Felicitas will be analyzed as highly representative case studies of gendered temporality.

In this paper we propose an analysis of popular religious practices in the Passio Sanctorum Perpetuae et Felicitatis, which tells the story of the imprisonment and execution of a group of Christians in Carthage, North Africa, at the turn of the second to the third century of the Christian era (202- 204 AD) during the reign of Emperor Septimus Severus. We highlight reports that approximate the practices of the martyrs to the religious practices of subalterns, with emphasis on practices consolidated within the scope of the religion of the people, namely the consultation of dreams and oracles of various types, with the purpose of managing conflicts and the scarcity of resources, as well as the preparation of amulets.

Abstract:
“The Passion of Saints Perpetua and Felicity” is in many ways a unique source on the history of early Christianity and the Roman Empire. Its uniqueness is evident not only in the structure of the text or its content but also in the complexity of issues related to its main characteristics as a historical source. The issues of dating, the interrelation of different versions of the text, original language, authorship and many others for a long time remain a matter of debate in foreign historiography. But in Russian historiography that martyrdom is still on the periphery of attention, and its scientific potential remains not fully disclosed. The paper provides an overview of the existing discussions about the nature of that early Christian text and solutions to the source issues associated with its study. The author proves that the “The Passion of Saints Perpetua and Felicity” has a quadripartite structure: authentic records of the martyrs Perpetua and Saturus, who died together with their comrades in Carthage at the beginning of the 3rd century, the eyewitness testimony of their execution, as well as a prologue and epilogue written by the unknown compiler. The paper also considers the perspectives for studying the text in the context of the relationship between the Christianity and the Roman Empire, in the course of the evolution of Christian thought, and through the prism of gender studies.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the Passio Sanctorum Perpetuae et Felicitatis, highlighting how this martyrdom report presents its main characters, that is, as the martyrs are built narratively. The research works martyrdom in early Christianity as a discursive phenomenon, that is, as a practice that emerges from a discursive interaction between the main cultures in constant dialogue in the early centuries of the Christian era, Greco-Roman, Jewish and Christian. For this analysis, we will dialogue with the works of Judith Perkins and Candida Moss, Christine Trevett, William Tabbernee, Rex D. Butler, among others, as well as we will use the dialogic concept of Mikhail Bakhtin. The research also discusses the latest research about the martyrdom theme. By examining this ideology developed in early Christianity could identify the discursive construction of a character linked to the practice martyrdom, the martyr. We present the various characteristics attributed to the martyr in a corpus of early Christian texts known as Acts of the martyrs, highlighting the high status achieved by these men and women who faced death. The martyr, to face and experience death receives invaluable powers, which makes it a special person, an ideal Christian who is above the ecclesiastical hierarchy and even the heavenly hierarchy. The Passio Sanctorum perpetuae et Felicitatis is an example of early Christian literature that shares these ideas that pervade the early centuries of the Christian era. By analyzing the plot of the narrative composition of martyrdom report identified traces of the discourse on martyrdom and the martyr present in early Christianity.

Abstract:
ANGLICKÁ ANOTACE (= předběžná náplň práce) Passio Perpetuae and Its Reflection in the Literature of Ancient Church The "Passion of Perpetua and Felicity" (Passio Perpetuae et Felicitatis) is one of the most renowned texts of early Christian hagiography. Accordingly, it has been enjoying a renewal of scholarly interest in the last decades. However, surprisingly little attention was paid to its literary "Nachleben", and there exist virtually no studies focusing on its reception in the subsequent literature of the early Church. Seemingly simple narrative, describing the martyrdom of a group of North African Christians, has been held in high esteem since its composition. It acquired almost "canonical" status and was considered authoritative not only by the mass of simple believers but by the Christian intellectuals, too. Though highly venerated in the early Church, it contained a number of innovative and - in the context of Antique and early Christian society - potentially subversive features. These novel features were felt to undermine the existing social order and hierarchy, and it was necessary to "explain them away" in order to make the text more compliant with traditional and generally accepted social values. This was then often taken into account, when later authors and interpreters refer to the text. The...
