Abstract:
Proposes that feminist pastoral counseling brings into focus the patriarchal context which conditions much of life, including a great deal of traditional psychotherapeutic theory. Claims that empowerment and liberation ought to be the goals of pastoral counseling; and that the model of pastoral counseling proposed by Merle Jordan fits well a feminist perspective, one which treats seriously the unconscious dimensions of patriarchy—a patriarchy which has led to the violation of the sacred.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The necessity for a "new" evangelization appears before the challenge of keeping alive and always current the novelty of the Gospel. To remember the origin of the expression, one commonly refers to a speech by John Paul I I in a Meeting of the Latin American Episcopal Council, held in Haiti, in 1983. However, "the new evangelization" is a category which already appears i n the Conference of Medellin (1968), to express the requirement to carry forward the renewal of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), through a new pastoral model: to pass from a "pastoral" of conservation, w i t h an emphasis on sacramentalization (of Christianity), to a pastoral of transformation, w i t h an emphasis on pastoral evangelization (post-Christianity). However, the most accurate translation of the evangelical requirement that - f o r new times, a new evangelization-, is the expression "pastoral conversion", formulated by the Santo Domingo Conference (1992) and incorporated in the Conference of Aparecida (2007). It beckons for overcoming of outdated pastoral models by the renewal of the Second Vatican Council and by the Latin American tradition and that configure, today, models of an evangelization lost in time and space.

AbstractThe article maps the major trends and movements in the field of pastoral care and counselling and pastoral theology during the last ten years as they are reflected in publications. The areas which receive focused attention are the influence of and response to postmodern culture; renewed interest in ethical problems and the way these are attended to; the phenomenal contributions by feminist and womanist pastoral theologians; the much more prominent use of theological language rather than psychological jargon; renewed interest in the importance of pastoral anthropology; the recurring theme of spirituality; the attention given to the communal and contextual aspects of pastoral work; the effort to recognise the importance of making provision for congregational pastoral counselling; and the new emphasis on narrative and outcomes-based models of pastoral counselling. A model is proposed for pastoral work which recognises four distinct forms of care: mutual care, pastoral care, pastoral counselling and pastoral therapy.

Reflecting on the The Methodist Education and their Pastoral Models is a very rich and broad topic. It can be analyzed and understood by various looks. Obviously it will not be exhausted but the most relevant aspects of this discussion will be highlighted. Since the beginning of the Methodist movement in England in the century XVIII, John Wesley, its principal pioneer, showed special attention to education, godly life, as well as humanitarian actions in trying to reach and meet the needs of the human being of his time in full. His academic training was at the prestigious Oxford University. He dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge always associating it to the Christian faith and the practice of love of neighbor. The result of the dedication of this man has spread everywhere through the missionary work of the Methodist movement which, among many things, founded thousands of schools. In over 250 years of Methodist education, only in the U.S. and Britain were built 1,900 schools. The main point of this dissertation is the rich opportunity to reflect on the direction and relevance of Methodist education in Brazil today, through its educational institutions considering the historical trajectory from its founder John Wesley.

Keya, Benjamin Shikwati. "Towards an integrated pastoral care model for bereavement healing among Abaluyia / Benjamin Shikwati Keya." Thesis, North-West University, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/4602.

Abstract:
The central premise of this dissertation is that a pastorally sympathetic assessment of cultural bereavement healing approaches in the light of a biblically informed understanding of death, bereavement and afterlife provide a basis for the bereaved to cope with the angst associated with bereavement through death and engenders pastoral care among the Abaluyia. It is noted that although many Abaluyia Christians consciously or otherwise lurch back to cultural approaches for consolation and healing during bereavement, there is a lack of meaningful engagement between the Abaluyia culture and the gospel. The result of this lack of engagement has not been syncretism as commonly assumed but rather parallelism whereby, on the one hand, the gospel is held as though it were alien and whimsical in contrast with traditional beliefs and practices which are perceived as practical and consequential. On the other hand, cultural approaches are dismissed as being part of ancestor worship or superstition and thus contrary to the gospel. In view of these extreme perceptions, Abaluyia Christians often feel guilty for either engaging in or shunning cultural approaches thus raising a pastoral concern in relation to caring for the bereaved. In response to the aforementioned pastoral concern, this dissertation firstly examines the role of cultural beliefs and practices in mediating healing for the bereaved among the Abaluyia. It is suggested that the persistence of cultural models is informed largely by their therapeutic value. Consequently, attention is put on the efficacious beliefs and practices employed by the Abaluyia which include community based approach to bereavement, rituals, systems of inheritance and care, conduct of the bereaved, procedures for forgiveness and reconciliation, hospitality, acts of benevolence and performances. Secondly, the identified cultural approaches are reflected upon in the light of the normative biblical teachings. The reflection is done in order to expose and isolate cultural beliefs and practices that are at odds with biblical teachings. The reflection follows a systematic analysis undertaken to establish the biblical understanding of death and the afterlife as well as a biblical hermeneutical analysis of pertinent biblical passages in order to draw paradigmatic biblical practices in bereavement. It is argued that the biblical ministry of healing in bereavement is rooted in the hope of resurrection and the conception of God as compassionate in his character. Lastly, an integrated pastoral care model, namely, Circle for Pastoral Concern, is proposed as a tool for bereavement healing among the Abaluyia. The proposed integrated model is cognisant of local cultural milieu in engaging in pastoral care for the bereaved. According to the Circle for Pastoral Concern model, the community of believers in their local setting, under the Triune God, form the context for healing.

Abstract:
Can Biblical narratives be applied to the pastoral care of primary school children between the ages of 6 and 13? If so, how are Biblical narratives effectively applied in the pastoral care of primary school children between the ages of 6 and 13? With these questions in mind, this research was undertaken with the goal in mind to eventually put forward a model for the use of Biblical narratives in the pastoral care of primary school children between the ages of 6 and 13. The research was done by making use of the research method of Zerfass (1974: 166). * The basic-theoretical phase of this study was done by means of a study of available literature. It began by an enquiry into the relevant Biblical perspectives on pastoral care and was followed by a further inquiry into the relevant Biblical perspectives on narrative pastoral care. This phase of the study was completed by an inquiry on the basic principles of pastoral care of children, with specific reference to children between the ages of 6 and 13. * The meta-theoretical phase of this study was done by an overview of the handling of children between the ages of 6 and 13 through the course of history in Western society. This was followed by a study of adjacent disciplines concerning the value of a narrative approach to the pastoral care of primary school children between the ages of 6 and 13. The next part of this phase was done by identifying the most common pastoral needs of children between the ages of 6 and 13, by means of an empirical enquiry. * The practice-theoretical phase was done by providing guidelines for the application of Biblical narratives in the pastoral care of children between the ages of 6 and 13. This was followed by an illustration of the application of Biblical narratives in the pastoral care of children between the ages of 6 and 13, by means of case studies. This phase of the study was completed by providing a model for the use of Biblical narratives in the pastoral care of primary school children between the ages of 6 and 13. This study has achieved success by providing a model for the use of Biblical narratives in the pastoral care of primary school children between the ages of 6 and 13. The model was provided within the epistemological framework of a post-postmodern epistemology. This model shows that Biblical narratives can be successfully applied in the pastoral care of primary school children and it also provides practical guidelines in the practical application of it.

The Christian churches, mainly the historical ones have, in the ecumenical dialog, the opportunity to live their faith, and to profess, in a non pre-conceptual manner, without proselytism and with the conviction that the God revelation as Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) is not restrict to any church exclusively. The theme ecumenism remains vital nowadays due to the cultural and religious plurality present in our society. The investigation s object of this work is the Movimento Ecumênico do Município (MEM) of São José dos Campos SP Vale do Paraíba region. Be part of this movement mainly the historical Christian churches, but are also present the Pentecostal and even the Neo-Pentecostal churches. This research had the objective to study the MEM in the period from 1999 to 2001, between clergy and laymen of the historical churches, focusing on the advances, difficulties, directions and the perspectives from this movement. In this analysis, I detected three ecumenical dialog models: theological-doctrinal ecumenism, institutional celebrative ecumenism and practical ecumenism. The work proposes to find possible solutions for the advances on the ecumenical dialog. The hypothesis is that maybe there is a deficiency of this advance on the ecumenical dialog due to the lack of a common ideal, i.e., lack of a united social action, which would characterize the Christians as authentic. The theoretical structure was based on studies of protestant and catholic theologians who approach the inter-clerical dialog, as well as information and positions from many churches and ecumenical organisms. For the churches historic that belong to MEM, as well as to discover their real difficulties, was accomplished interviews and research in the churches and municipal registry offices. The research, done under a scientific vision, can favor the comprehension that the true ecumenism begins through a concrete action, or, in other words, through practicing the Gospel. This process can lead the ecumenical movement to achieve its objective: the unity on the diversity for the world to believe . Therefore, it leads to the expansion of MEM in the region that belongs to and also its results can be projected in the environments on which is proposed this unity on the diversity

Abstract:
The objective of this practical theological study was to explore to what extent a pastoral accentuation of Christian teachers as role models can result in a new perspective on the teacher-learner relationship in the South African school context. For this purpose, a research question was formulated with the eye on identifying elements of pastoral knowledge and skills to equip the Christian teacher to lead learners by means of a metaphorical deployment of his/her function as a role model towards spiritual maturity. Basic theoretical guidelines were formulated from Scripture to describe the metaphorical functions in the pastoral role of Christian teachers. The function of biblical metaphors such as shepherd, servant, comforter, priest, prophet and king were described. A literary investigation was conducted to explain the educational milieu in which teachers in the South African schooling system operate. In this section of the study, as a result of investigations into related sciences, the following aspects came to light: the question regarding the essence of education; the role and function of the teacher; the role of the learner and also the role of the school as an educational institution. An empirical study was done to gain further perspective on the realities, with which teachers in South African schools are faced with on daily basis, and how they visualise their role in this context. A qualitative research method was done by interviewing Christian teachers. The methodological model of Zerfass was used as a framework, to establish hermeneutical interaction between basic-theoretical, meta-theoretical and empirical aspects. Thereafter my own model was designed to provide guidelines to the Christian teacher to fulfil his/her role, as a role model for learners. Research findings indicate that a Christian teacher?s metaphorical deployment of his/her function as role model can indeed play a vital role in the education situation in the context of the current South African school system. However, there seems to be some uncertainty in the midst of teachers about what exactly the metaphorical functions comprise and the need for further equipment in this regard proved to be necessary.

The present research seeks to analyze the narratives of the trajectories of Protestant Christian women up to their admission to the pastoral office, focusing on the meaning of women’s ordination as given by the female ministers. In this paper, some existing cases in Fortaleza were presented, and the characteristics of a female pastoral care and the models found in this field were noted. The models in the field are found in the equation of “permanence and rupture” variables as related to the biblical model of women which permeates the religious mindset of the female ministers. A qualitative methodology was used with life narratives for the purpose of analyzing their life trajectories, understanding what the process is like in the rise of women to the pastoral office in different denominational settings.

Abstract:
Abstract The first chapter of this edited volume traces the history of documenting spiritual care. By referring to ancient and early modern practices, the relationship between spiritual (self-) care and various forms of documentation is outlined. The focus lies on developments in the twentieth and the twenty-first century, although the question of what constitutes an adequate practice of documenting healthcare chaplaincy is as old as the profession itself. The pioneers of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) – Richard Cabot, Anton Boisen, Russell L. Dicks, and others – developed distinctive forms of recording for different purposes. For example, procedures of documentation that are prepared for and helpful to the pastors themselves as “self-criticism,” “self-improvement,” or even “self-revelation” have been distinguished from documentation practices that are intra- or interprofessional. Regarding more recent developments in documentation, the introduction of electronic patient records (EMRs) was critical. We present a case study from Kenya to show how the issues discussed here are encountered in a non-Euro-American context.
