Abstract. A fully integrated planar sensor for 77 GHz automotive applications is presented. The frontend consists of a transceiver multichip module and an electronically steerable microstrip patch array. The antenna feed network is based on a modified Rotman-lens and connected to the array in a multilayer approach offering higher integration. Furthermore, the frontend comprises a phase lock loop to allow proper frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar operation. The latest experimental results verify the functionality of this advanced frontend design featuring automatic cruise control, precrash sensing and cut-in detection. These promising radar measurements give reason to a detailed theoretical investigation of system performance. Employing commercially available MMIC various circuit topologies are compared based on signal-tonoise considerations. Different scenarios for both sequential and parallel lobing hint to more advanced sensor designs and better performance. These improvements strongly depend on the availability of suitable MMIC and reliable packaging technologies. Within our present approach possible future MMIC developments are already considered and, thus, can be easily adapted by the flexible frontend design. Es wird ein integrierter planarer Sensor für 77 GHz Radaranwendungen vorgestellt. Das Frontend besteht aus einem Sende- und Empfangs-Multi-Chip-Modul und einer elektronisch schwenkbaren Antenne. Das Speisenetzwerk der Antenne basiert auf einer modifizierten Rotman- Linse. Für eine kompakte Bauweise sind Antenne und Speisenetzwerk mehrlagig integriert. Weiterhin umfasst das Frontend eine Phasenregelschleife für eine präzise Steuerung des frequenzmodulierten Dauerstrichradars. Die aktuellen Messergebnisse bestätigen die Funktionalit¨at dieses neuartigen Frontend-Designs, das automatische Geschwindigkeitsregelung, Kollisionswarnung sowie Nahbereichsüberwachung ermöglicht. Die Qualität der Messergebnisse hat weiterführende theoretische Untersuchungen über die potenzielle Systemleistungsfähigkeit motiviert. Unter Berücksichtigung von kommerziell erhältlichenMMICs werden verschiedene Schaltungstopologien auf der Grundlage des Signal-Rausch-Verhältnisses verglichen. Sowohl für sequenzielle als auch für parallele Ansteuerung der Antennenkeulen wird eine deutliche Leistungssteigerung ermittelt. Diese Verbesserungen hängen maßgeblich von der Verfügbarkeit geeigneter MMICs und einer zuverlässigen Aufbau- und Verbindungstechnik ab. Das vorliegende Frontend-Konzept kann auf Grund seiner Flexibilität leicht an derlei zukünftige Entwicklungen angepasst werden.

Nous démontrons expérimentalement le contrôle du taux d’émission spontanée ainsi que le diagramme de rayonnement de nanoémetteurs positionnés de façon déterministe dans une antenne patch plasmonique proposée par l’équipe de J. J. Greffet de l’Institut d’Optique. Les nanoémetteurs utilisés sont des nanocristaux colloïdaux en CdSe/CdS émettant dans la gamme de longueur d’onde du visible à température ambiante. L’antenne patch est composée d’un disque d’or fin placé à 30 nm au dessus d’une surface d’or épaisse. Cette structure permet de confiner très fortement le champ électromagnétique dans les trois directions de l’espace. En plaçant un émetteur au centre de l’antenne, l’émission peut être accélérée d’un facteur atteignant 180 pour un disque de 160nm diamètre par effet Purcell. Afin de réaliser ces antennes, nous utilisons la méthode de lithographie in-situ développée par l’équipe de P. Senellart au LPN. Cette méthode consiste à d’abord repérer un émetteur par photoluminescence avec une précision de l’ordre de 25nm, puis, dessiner la structure photonique ou plasmonique au tour de l’émetteur grâce à un laser. Nous montrons que l’émission des nanocristaux se fait sur l’ensemble de la surface des antennes patchs avec un diagramme de rayonnement vertical et très directif. Une forte accélération du taux d’émission spontanée est observée et dépend du diamètre de l’antenne. En considérons la structure du double dipôle des nanocristaux, le facteur de Purcell atteint 80 pour un dipôle vertical au disque d’or. Par ailleurs, nous avons développé une méthode de lithographie permettant de réaliser des antennes patchs plasmoniques couplés à des émetteurs individuels par gravure laser directe<br>In this thesis, we experimentally demonstrate the control of the spontaneous emission rate and the radiation pattern of colloidal quantum dots deterministically positioned in a plasmonic patch antenna proposed by the J. J. Greffet’s team at IOGS laboratory. The nano-emitters used here are CdSe/CdS colloidal nanocrystals emitting in the visible wavelengths at room temperature. The antenna consists of a thin gold microdisk 30 nm above a thick gold layer. This structure confines the electromagnetic field in a small volume allowing reaching a Purcell factor up to 180 for a diameter of 160nm. These antennas are made by in-situ lithography technique developed by P. Senellart at LPN laboratory (Marcoussis). This technique consists in centering on the quantum emitter by maximizing the photoluminescence signal detection with 25nm accuracy, then, the photonic or a plasmonic structure is drawn with a laser. The emitters are shown to radiate through the entire patch antenna in a highly directional and vertical radiation pattern. Strong acceleration of spontaneous emission is observed, depending of the antenna size. Considering the double dipole structure of the emitters, this corresponds to a Purcell factor up to 80 for dipoles perpendicular to the disk. Dans le domaine des systèmes communicants, les antennes accordables (agiles) en fréquence suscitent un intérêt croissant en raison de la prolifération des standards de communication sans fils, proches les uns des autres. Toutefois, les solutions traditionnelles sont basées sur des composants actifs qui ont pour effet d’engendrer un surcoût et de complexifier le système. De plus, nous assistons également à une migration de l’électronique sur substrat rigide vers des substrats flexibles pour des raisons de coût et une recherche de souplesse et de conformabilité des systèmes. Cette thèse a pour objectif de lier ces deux thématiques par une approche originale qui consiste en la reconfiguration mécanique d’antenne patch sur substrat membranaire souple par un actionnement électrostatique en bande X, vers 10 GHz. Pour cela, un substrat polymérique innovant pour ce type de structure antennaire est utilisé, le polyuréthane (PU). À cet effet, les procédés technologiques nécessaires à la fabrication des antennes patch sur substrat en PU ont été développés. Ensuite, la caractérisation des propriétés diélectriques de films de polyuréthane sur une large bande de fréquence a été effectuée afin de pouvoir dimensionner le système antennaire à l’aide de simulations hyperfréquence. Enfin, la réalisation et la caractérisation de premiers systèmes antennaires sur membrane en PU ont montré que les figures de mérites Agilité fréquentielle/Tension mesurées sont supérieures à l’état de l’art. Des études préliminaires ont également été effectuées pour explorer différentes voies envisageables en vue d’une amélioration des performances des systèmes antennaires<br>In communication systems, smart antennas with large frequency tunability (agility) have been gaining worldwide attention over the past few years due to the proliferation of global wireless communication standards in close proximity to one another. However, conventional solutions use electronic components which induce additional costs and make the system more complicated. Moreover, the electronic devices have moved from rigid to flexible dielectric substrates to reduce the cost and to obtain stretchability and conformability properties. The goal of this thesis is to put together these two topics. The chosen original approach consists of the mechanical reconfiguration of antenna patch printed on a soft membrane substrate with electrostatic actuation in X band, at around 10 GHz. Moreover, a new polymeric substrate was employed in this structure, the polyurethane (PU). Firstly, the technological processes required to realize the antenna patch on the PU substrate were developed. Then, the dielectric properties of polyurethane films were measured on a large frequency band in order to define the antenna patch dimensions using high frequency simulations. Finally, the first antennas patch realized and characterized have a figure of merit Frequency tunability/Voltage higher than the state of the art. La Transformation d’Espace appelée aussi Transformation Optique (TO) est un outil de conception électromagnétique puissant qui a permis la conception de nouveaux dispositifs tels que la célèbre “cape d'invisibilité”. Cette thèse s’inscrit dans la continuité directe de celle de M.D. Clemente Arenas (Application de la transformation d'espace à la conception d'antennes à diagramme de rayonnement contrôlé, 2014) et porte sur l’utilisation de la TO pour modifier drastiquement le rayonnement d’une antenne patch. Ces fortes modifications du rayonnement sont habituellement obtenues avec l’aide d’un superstrat encombrant et constitué de matériaux ayant une perméabilité et permittivité exotiques (métamatériaux). L’objectif est donc ici de réduire cet encombrement et de simplifier la réalisation en utilisant des matériaux diélectriques standards. Ainsi, grâce au superstrat développé, une antenne patch ayant un gain réalisé de 7 dB devient une antenne présentant deux lobes dans le plan azimutal de gain réalisé de 3.5 dB. Le superstrat, d’épaisseur 0.12λ, est conçu à l’aide de deux matériaux uniquement : Alumine (εr = 9.9) et Fullcure (εr = 2.8), alors que le profil initial comporte une permittivité variant entre 1 et 15 et une perméabilité entre 0.3 et 3. Divers degrés de libertés dans la conception permettent d'adapter notre solution pour concevoir d’autres superstrats avec des fonctionnalités différentes: diagramme ayant une ouverture de plus de 180° dans un plan, diagramme end-fire, etc. Les applications visées sont notamment celles de l’aéronautique pour lesquelles il existe aujourd’hui sur les aéronefs plusieurs dizaines d’antennes pour assurer toutes les liaisons nécessaires aux communications, à l’identification, au positionnement, etc. La géométrie du porteur conduit alors à utiliser plusieurs antennes protubérantes pour remplir cette mission. Cependant pour un avion, ces excroissances contribuent à dégrader l’aérodynamisme de l’appareil ce qui se traduit par une consommation plus importante. Le but est donc de proposer des solutions antennaires à rayonnement nonconventionnel et non protubérante compatible avec une intégration sur dérive ou fuselage. Le concept est validé à l'aide d'une maquette réalisée avec une imprimante 3D et avec le soutien d’Airbus Group Innovations<br>Transformation Optics (TO) is a powerful electromagnetic design tool that enables the design of new devices such as the famous "invisibility cloak". This thesis is in direct continuation of that of M.D. Clemente Arenas (Application de la transformation d'espace à la conception d'antennes à diagramme de rayonnement contrôlé, 2014) and focuses on the use of the TO to drastically change radiation of a patch antenna. These sharp changes in radiation pattern are usually obtained using bulky superstrates made of metamaterials having exotic permeability and permittivity values. The objective of this thesis is to reduce the thickness of the superstrate and simplify the fabrication by enabling the use of standard dielectric materials. Thus, a patch antenna with realized gain of 7 dB is transformed, with the help of proposed superstrate, into an antenna having two lobes in the azimuth plane withrealized gain of 3.5 dB. The 0.12λ thick superstrate is designed using two standard dielectric materials only: Alumina (εr = 9.9) and FullCure (εr = 2.8), whereas the previous solution had variation in permittivity between 1 and 15 and in permeability between 0.3 and 3. Various degrees of freedom in the design allow adapting this solution to develop new superstrates for other applications: radiation pattern with HPBW greater than 180 ° in one plane, end-fire radiation pattern, etc. Target applications include those of aeronautics. Today, dozens of antennas on an aircraft are required to ensure the necessary communications links, identification, positioning and other purposes. The structure of the aircraft necessitates use multiple antennas to fulfill this mission, which are fixed and protrude on fuselage or wings. However, for an aircraft, these protuberances contribute to the aerodynamic drag, which results in higher fuel consumption. Therefore, the objective is to propose conformal antenna solutions with unconventional radiation pattern, which can be eventually integrated on fuselage or rudder. Il est bien connu dans la théorie de Maxwell que le rayonnement électromagnétique (EM) d'une onde porte à la fois du moment linéaire (énergie) et du moment angulaire. Ce dernier possède deux parties: le Moment Angulaire de Spin (ou SAM) qui est également connu sous le nom de la polarisation et le Moment Angulaire Orbital (ou OAM). Le SAM ne comprend que deux états (gauche et droite) et est utilisé en télécommunications pour doubler la capacité du canal. Par contre, le moment angulaire orbital (OAM) peut en théorie, avoir un nombre infini d'états appelés les modes OAM. Par conséquent, en radiofréquences, les premières applications de l'OAM ont été proposées dans le domaine des communications sans fil. Mais, tout d'abord, il est nécessaire de développer des antennes générant de telles ondes. L'objectif de cette thèse est de concevoir des antennes pour générer des ondes ayant un OAM. Le manuscrit se décompose en trois parties. Dans la première partie, un réseau d'antennes « patches » utilisant un déphaseur original est développé et testé. Ce réseau génère une onde ayant de l'OAM. Dans la deuxième partie, une cavité Fabry-Perot (FP) est utilisée pour apporter plus de directivité à ce réseau d'antennes. Ces ondes ont ensuite été utilisées pour exciter des antennes en cornet et rayonner des faisceaux directifs transportant du moment angulaire orbital<br>It is well known from Maxwell’s theory that electromagnetic (EM) radiation carries both linear momentum (energy) and angular momentum. The latter has two parts: Spin Angular Momentum (SAM) which corresponds to the polarization of an EM wave and Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) which is associated with the spatial distribution of an EM wave. The SAM has only two states (left and right) and is used to double the channel capacity in telecommunications. On the other hand, the OAM can theoretically have an infinite number of states called the OAM modes. Therefore, the first applications of OAM have been proposed in wireless communications at radio frequencies. However, first of all, it is necessary to develop the antennas for generating such waves. The objective of this thesis is to design the antennas for the generation of radio waves bearing OAM. The manuscript contains three parts. In the first part, an antenna using 4 patches and an original phase shifter is developed and tested to generate an OAM wave. In the second part, a Fabry-Perot (FP) cavity is used to enhance the directivity of this antenna. The third part is to generate guided OAM waves. Some horn antennas are used to radiate these waves with good directivity

Negli ultimi anni, la popolazione è stata esposta a vari tipi di campi elettromagnetici generati da strumentazioni elettroniche e dispositivi di telecomunicazione. In questa tesi, si valutano SAR ed effetti termici prodotti da tre antenne patch a radiofrequenza sia su Cheratinociti (cellule dell'epidermide) in vitro che sull'epidermide umana in vivo caratterizzata in un modello multistrato contenente tessuti biologici. Le antenne progettate hanno frequenze di risonanza di 1.8 e 2.4 GHz, tipiche delle bande utilizzate rispettivamente da LTE (Long Term Evolution, la più recente evoluzione degli standard di telefonia mobile cellulare) e dalle moderne tecnologie Wi-Fi, e di 60 GHz, propria delle cosiddette onde millimetriche. Vengono valutati quindi il SAR (Specific Absorption Rate, grandezza che fornisce una misura dell'assorbimento delle onde da parte dei tessuti biologici) e le variazioni di temperatura prodotte dall'applicazione del campo elettromagnetico: ciò viene realizzato attraverso l'equazione del calore stazionaria e, nel caso dell'epidermide in vivo, con la Bioheat Equation, che contempla anche la circolazione sanguigna ed il calore generato nei processi metabolici che avvengono nell'organismo.

Grâce aux progrès réalisés ces dernières années dans la conception de réseaux intelligents, tels que les réseaux centrés sur la personne (WBAN) ou les réseaux sans fils de proximité (WPAN), de nouveaux types d'applications émergent et utilisent des capteurs d'informations capables de relever les paramètres physiologiques, environnementaux et plus particulièrement le positionnement des personnes. Dans ce cadre, nous nous sommes attachés dans ce travail de recherche à la conception et la réalisation d'antennes en polarisation circulaire pouvant être intégrées dans des vêtements, pour les standards de géolocalisation européen Galiléo et Américain GPS. Nous avons utilisé pour ces antennes des structures métamatériaux de type conducteurs magnétiques artificiels, afin d'augmenter les performances en rayonnement et pour diminuer le couplage avec et le corps humain. Une autre voie explorée est l'utilisation d'antennes patchs qui sont de nature faible encombrement. La bande de fréquence du standard de communications par satellite Iridium étant très proche du standard de géolocalisation GPS, nous avons trouvé intéressant de développer une solution de type patch couvrant les deux bandes GPS (1,575 GHz) et Iridium (1,621 GHz). L'antenne devant être intégrée sur une boite crânienne, les niveaux de débit d'absorption spécifique et les modifications du rayonnement sous conformation de l'antenne ont également été étudiés. L'évolution de ce travail a été ensuite d'étudier le comportement de cette antenne posée sur le dessus d'un casque militaire français. Les performances en rayonnement ont été satisfaisantes et ont montré la possibilité d'une telle application.

The current state of wireless sensing technologies possesses a good reliability in terms of time response and sensing on movable parts or in embedded structures. Nevertheless, these tech- nologies involve energy supply such as battery and suffer from low resolution and bulky signal conditioning system for data processing. Thus, a RFID passive wireless sensor is a good candidate to overcome these issues. The feasibility of implementing microstrip patch antennas for sensing application were successfully investigated; however, low sensitivity was always a big issue to be concerned. Sensors based on nanocomposites attracted a lot of attention because of their excellent performance in term of light weight, high sensitivity, good stability and high resistance to corrosion but it lacks the capability of high conductivity, which limit their implication into RFID applications. This work introduces a novel high sensitive passive wireless strain and temperature sensors based on nanocomposites as sensing layer. To accomplish this, intrinsically conductive polymer based on carbon nanofillers nanocomposites are deeply studied and characterized. Then it’s performance is evaluated. Among them a novel tertiary nanocomposite is introduced, which opens the gate to new nanocomposite applications and thus broad- ens the application spectrum. Understanding the transport mechanism to improve the conductivity of the nanocomposite and extracting individually different models based on physical explanation of their piezoresistivity, and behavior under temperature and humidity have been developed. Afterwards, selected nanocomposites based on their high sensitivity to either strain or temperature are chosen to be used as sensing layer for patch antenna. The fabricated patch antenna has only one fundamental frequency, by determining the shift in its resonance frequency as function of the desired property to be measured; the wireless sensor characteristics are then examined. For strain sensing, the effect of strain is tested experimentally with the help of end-loaded beam measurement setup. For temperature sensing, the sensors are loaded in a controlled temperature/humid chamber and with the help of a vector network analyzer, the sensitivity of the antennas are extracted by acquiring the shift in the resonance frequency. The fabricated wireless sensors based on patch antenna are fabricated on very low lossy material to improve their gain and radiation pattern. This approach could be expanded also to include different type of substrates such as stretchable substrates i.e. elastomer polymer, very thing substrates such as Kapton, paper-based substrates or liquid crystal polymer.

L'utilisation exponentielle d’applications mobiles entraîne une demande en constante croissance pour des débits de données de plus en plus élevés associées à des solutions de télécommunications mobiles à faible coût. Alors que les réseaux 5G en sont encore à leur début, les télécommunications mobiles par satellite (Sat-Com-On-The-Move) peuvent jouer un rôle central dans cette problématique. La bande passante disponible dans les bandes de fréquences Ku- (10,75-14,5 GHz) et Ka- (18-31 GHz) pour ces applications peut être exploitée afin de fournir une connexion internet globale à haut débit et faible coût. Des entreprises comme SpaceX déploient actuellement de grandes constellations de satellites positionnées sur des orbites terrestres basses et pouvant répondre à ces besoins. Néanmoins, le prix et le facteur de forme des terminaux utilisateurs à réflecteur motorisé existants restent les principaux goulots d'étranglement pour rendre ces technologies abordables à une grande partie de consommateurs. La bande passante opérationnelle atteignable par les éléments rayonnants intégrés à faible profil (i.e. réseaux d’antennes à fentes) étant limité, la plupart des solutions existantes divisent la transmission (Tx) et la réception (Rx) dans deux panneaux rayonnants différents ce qui impose un coût relativement élevé pour les utilisateurs finaux. L'objectif de cette thèse consiste à développer des solutions d'antennes innovantes à faible coût et à large bande, notamment des antennes patch à couplage par fente et des antennes à guides d'ondes nervurés fabriqués avec des circuits imprimés standard (PCB) et par impression 3D en métal. Ces antennes sont censées couvrir la totalité de la bande Ku et Ka afin de permettre la création de terminaux utilisateur Sat-Com-On-The-Move à faible encombrement capables d'effectuer à la fois les fonctions Rx et Tx à l'aide d'un seul panneau antennaire. Une attention particulière est accordée à la possibilité d'intégrer ces éléments rayonnants dans de petits réseaux à utiliser comme cellule unitaire pour la réalisation de plus grands, en envisageant la possibilité d'atteindre les niveaux de gain requis par ce type de télécommunications<br>The increasing use of mobile applications leads to a growing demand for higher data-rates and low-cost mobile telecommunication solutions. While 5G networks are still at their early stages, a central role can be played by the mobile satellite telecommunications (Sat-Com-On-The-Move). The frequency bandwidth available at Ku- (10.75-14.5 GHz) and Ka- (18-31 GHz) bands for these applications can be leveraged in order to provide worldwide, high-speed and low-cost internet connections. Companies like SpaceX are actually deploying large satellite constellations required to work at Low Earth Orbits and offer such services. Nevertheless, the price and the form factor of the traditional motorized reflector-based user terminals remain the main bottlenecks in order to make these technologies affordable to the mass-market consumers. The limited operational bandwidth of the radiating elements integrated in their low-profile alternatives (i.e. slotted waveguide antenna arrays) actually obliges to split transmission (Tx) and reception (Rx) in two different panels, keeping a relatively high cost for the end-users. The objective of this thesis is to develop innovative low-cost and wideband antenna solutions, notably microstrip aperture coupled patch and double ridged waveguide antennas, to be respectively realized by standard Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and metal 3-D printing. These antennas are meant to cover the whole Ku- and Ka- band in order to allow the creation low-profile Sat-Com-On-The-Move user terminals able to perform both Rx and Tx using a single antenna panel. A particular attention is given to the possibility to integrate these radiating element in small arrays to be used as unit cell for the realization of larger ones, envisaging the possibility to achieve the levels of gain required by this kind of telecommunications

La tomographie SAR exploite plusieurs acquisitions d'une même zone acquises d'un point de vue légerement différent pour reconstruire la densité complexe de réflectivité au sol. Cette technique d'imagerie s'appuyant sur l'émission et la réception d'ondes électromagnétiques cohérentes, les données analysées sont complexes et l'information spatiale manquante (selon la verticale) est codée dans la phase. De nombreuse méthodes ont pu être proposées pour retrouver cette information. L'utilisation des redondances naturelles à certains milieux n'est toutefois généralement pas exploitée pour améliorer l'estimation tomographique. As the transmitted waves are coherent, the desired spatial information (along with the vertical axis) is coded in the phase of the pixels. Many methods have been proposed to retrieve this information in the past years. However, the natural redundancies of the scene are generally not exploited to improve the tomographic estimation step.
