The object proposed in this study is to consider both the activities and the importance of the Pathfinder Force, Royal Air Force, in the Second World War. Their story has a much earlier beginning than 15 August 1942 when the founder squadrons gathered on various R.A.F. stations in the vicinity of the cathedral city of Ely in Cambridgeshire. The LISA Pathfinder ESA mission was concluded on July 18th, 2017, after 18 months of operations as one of the most successful ESA missions ever. It was launched on December 3rd, 2015 with the purpose of assessing the feasibility of geodesic motion of two free-falling test masses at the level required by LISA, the first space-based gravitational wave observatory programmed for launch in 2034. The particular study case in this thesis is the shock test performed on the LISA Pathfinder satellite conducted in a laboratory environment on a dedicated test bed: Vega Shock Test Apparatus (VESTA).
