Abstract:
Omics studies use large-scale high-throughput data to explain changes underlying different traits or conditions. However, omics analysis often results in long lists of pathways that are difficult to interpret. Therefore, it is of interest to describe a tool named PAVER (Pathway Analysis Visualization with Embedding Representations) for large scale genomic analysis. PAVER curates similar pathways into groups, identifies the pathway most representative of each group, and provides publication-ready intuitive visualizations. PAVER clusters pathways defined by their vector embedding representations

Polygenic risk scores (PRSs) have been among the leading advances in biomedicine in recent years. As a proxy of genetic liability, PRSs are utilised across multiple fields and applications. While numerous statistical and machine learning methods have been developed to optimise their predictive accuracy, these typically distil genetic liability to a single number based on aggregation of an individual’s genome-wide risk alleles. This results in a key loss of information about an individual’s genetic profile, which could be critical given the functional sub-structure of the genome and the heterog

The complexity of SWSD arises from the altered interactions between thousands of genes, making it challenging to prioritize disease mechanism, biomarkers, and drug targets. Abstract:
Each combination of technologies necessary to produce, deliver, and distribute hydrogen for transportation use has a corresponding levelized cost, energy requirement, and greenhouse gas emission profile depending upon the technologies’ efficiencies and costs. Understanding the technical status, potential, and tradeoffs is necessary to properly allocate research and development (R&D) funding. In this paper, levelized delivered hydrogen costs, pathway energy use, and well-to-wheels (WTW) energy use and emissions are reported for multiple hydrogen production, delivery, and distribution pathwa

Abstract:
Calcium signaling pathways play pivotal roles in regulation of various important biological processes in eukaryotes ranging from yeast to human. Because of the high degree in gene conservation from yeast to human, the small molecule inhibitors discovered in the yeast based-drug screening system can be expected to exert their function in human as well. The immunosuppressive agents, FK506 and cyclosporine A, are an example. Our previous studies using a zds1 yeast-based assay to search for inhibitors in the calcium signaling pathway in Saccharomyces cerevisae mutant strain from the crude extract

Original objectives: The long-term goal of the research is to achieve higher protein content in the milk of ruminants by modulating the translational apparatus of the mammary gland genetically, nutritionally, or pharmacologically. The short-term objectives are to obtain a better understanding of 1) the role of amino acids (AA) as regulators of translation in bovine and mouse mammary epithelial cells and 2) the mechanism responsible for the synergistic enhancement of milk-protein mRNA polyadenylation by insulin and prolactin. Background of the topic: In many cell types and tissues, individual A

Abstract:
Postharvest leaf senescence contributes to quality losses in flowers and leafy vegetables. The general goal of this research project was to investigate the regulatory mechanisms involved in dark-induced leaf senescence. The regulatory system involved in senescence induction and control is highly complex and possibly involves a network of senescence promoting pathways responsible for activation of the senescence-associated genes. Pathways involving different internal signals and environmental factors may have distinctive importance in different leaf senescence systems. Darkness is known to have

Abstract:
Digital trade is increasingly touted as a key pathway for mitigating economic losses from COVID-19. On the one hand, the pandemic has accelerated the scope of a digital-led recovery; on the other, the existing digital divide across countries has been exacerbated by a sudden and increased reliance on digital technologies. This paper aims to deepen the understanding of the contribution digital trade can make in supporting a post-COVID economic recovery in the Commonwealth, and to situate this within the context of the diversity of challenges involved in growing digital trade and expanding the di

• Targeted manipulating Phenylalanine (Phe) synthesis is one of the most powerful strategies to boost the biologically and economically important secondary metabolites, including phenylpropaniods, aromatic volatiles and specialized secondary metabolites. • Over-expression of the petunia MYB transcript factor, ODORANT1 (ODO1), results in significant alterations of the levels of specific phenylpropanoid compounds in plants. • Our previous studies indicated that ectopic expression of the feedback-insensitive AroG could break the bottleneck between primary and secondary metabolisms in tomato, ther

The environmental crisis is increasing risks to security and peace worldwide, notably in countries that are already fragile. Indicators of insecurity such as the number of conflicts, the number of hungry people and military expenditure are rising; so are indicators of environmental decline, in climate change, biodiversity, pollution and other areas. In combination, the security and environmental crises are creating compound, cascading, emergent, systemic and existential risks. Without profound changes of approach by institutions of authority, risks will inevitably proliferate quickly. Environm

Abstract:
Diseases are often the consequence of proteins or protein complexes that are non-functional or that function improperly. An active area of research has focused on the identification of molecules that can interact with defective proteins and restore their function. While 22% percent of human proteins are estimated to be druggable, less than fifteen percent are targeted by FDA-approved drugs, and the vast majority of untargeted proteins are understudied or so-called "dark" proteins. Elucidation of the function of these dark proteins, particularly those in commonly drug-targeted protein families,
