Abstract:
..........In the context of patient services constrained by cost barriers, physicians often find it unfavorable to choose an option that prioritizes patient interest. As has been the practice of physicians since Hippocrates, physicians position themselves as the one who best knows what is the most appropriate for the patient. This is in contrary to the concept of patient-centered care. Supported by the ethical principle of patient autonomy, patient-centered services / PCC (LBP/Layanan Berpusat Pasien) empower patients through the provision of more clear and accurate information, allowing patie

<p> Patient centered care considers patients' values, personal preferences, cultural traditions and lifestyles when it comes to implementing care and treatments. This study looks at the effect of patient-physician race concordance on patient centered care and focuses on which ethnic backgrounds are more impacted by this concept. When patients feel they can relate to their care providers, they tend to report higher satisfaction rates when it comes to their treatments. Results of this study can be applied to future research revolving around patient centeredness and can be used to determine how t

Accountable care units (ACU-?¢) provide a new model for integrated patient care. The ACU-?¢ promotes patient centeredness in nursing units as team members work collaboratively with physicians to improve patient outcomes and reduce unwarranted variations. A health system in the southeastern United States incorporated the ACU-?¢ as part of their care model. These units were held accountable for their clinical, service, and cost outcomes but lacked a validation process to demonstrate the effective utilization of their data. This thesis presents a challenge to policy initiatives that presume that patient-centered care will reduce racial disparities in health. Data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey were used to test patient assessment of provider behavior defined as patient-centered care according to the National Health Disparities Report of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality of the Department of Health and Human Services. Results indicated patient-centered care improves self-rated health status, but blacks still report worse health status than whites experiencing comparable patient-centered car

The quality of healthcare is an emerging concern worldwide. Despite attempts to minimize adverse events and medical errors, the disclosure of medical errors by health professionals remains a significant challenge. We have previously reported that international policies and the Canadian Provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons both encourage the open disclosure of adverse events and have suggested its integration into a ‘no-fault’ model. Disclosure policies can provide a framework and guidelines for appropriate disclosure, leading to practices that are more transparent. The purpose of this

In this study, we create and evaluate a new framework for patient-centered care in cancer using human factors approaches.
