Full textThis thesis discusses the interaction of heritage, landscape and tourism and identifiestheir relationship, either associative or contradictory. Tourism, being the main sourceof financial activity in Greece influences and dominates almost every geographicallocation, particularly the islands, as these constitute priority destinations for visitors inevery island. Urban development and tourism have often contributed in compromisingthe integrity of natural and cultural heritage of islands, including their territories, water tables, customs and architecture. Without doubt, a key and decisive factor is thedisposition of local populations to act and react to these changes. Before everythingtransforms, we decided to study culture through the rural built heritage that dominatesa space that is insular and agricultural at the same time. In this framework, we decidedto choose as a case of study the island of Amorgos, in Cyclades, which seems toexhibit a moderate tourism development and has managed to preserve its profile andidentity. Tourism and rural landscape coexist harmoniously, keeping a balancebetween environment (landscape) and development (tourism), a balance that allowsthe preservation of the local identity, and has the potential to resist time. Asmethodology, we decided to use an inventory, which identifies rural buildingscontributes to the recognition and mapping out of the insular rural world

Full textFor more twenty years, one notes the emergence of the concept of "land" and the rediscovery of patrimony too. This double resurgence has concretized oneself in 1995 with the creation of the "lands" by a law, which is often, the occasion to mobilize the patrimony, to define these new spaces, to make them identifiable. In order to understand and to explain this phenomenon we chose to observe and study the construction of one of these new territories, the Lauragais, as a practitioner an ethnology of the alive one. Many are those which considered themselves, particularly in rural areas, life forgotten by the development ; the "land" allows to assert their reality, to build their identity, to be even opposed to national directives decided elsewhere. A significant question arises : attend one a transfer of the relations of domination in the social representations ? It will be necessary for us to define the concepts, and to treat many questions : heterogeneity and extension of the patrimonial field, the creation of a territorial identity, the use of the knowledge, the return of the myth, the commercialization of the culture, the political strategies. .

Full textThis thesis explores the social and historical environment in which the concept of Palestinian cultural heritage has been formulated throughout the past two centuries. The study, which is based on fieldwork, relies on an inventory of the manually operated, iron screw-mechanism olive presses (MISP) that still exist in situ in the rural area of the Ramallah governorate. This inventory constitutes an essential step in evaluating the heritage linked to the production of olive oil and in illustrating the rural proto-industry that existed by the second half of the 19th century in Palestine. Illustrating the bottom-up history of these findings and documenting the evolution of these techniques in view of offering a tool for the promotion and re-appropriation of this part of heritage as an inherent part of Palestinian culture, history and identity while incorporating it as an integral part of the greater Mediterranean olive oil culture

Full textThe reciprocal influences between competition law and geographical indications, in Europe and in Brazil, shows us different approaches adopted for the protection and development of the agricultural sector. This relationship is well established in numerous European relevant markets, particularly in France, being considered the intellectual property framework. This approach reveals some aspects of the agricultural common policy adopted in European Union, where appellations are intended to be used as a tool for internal market accomplishment, for reacting to overproduction/protectionism concerns and for aggregating value in order to increase exports. On the other hand, Brazil has not developed yet a clear competition policy in agricultural sector nor a strong geographical indication based market. This context derives from the Brazilian economical environment and competition law history, which encourage trademarks and biotechnology rather than geographical indications as an intellectual property framework for agricultural sector and food industry. Another reason is that Brazil is the owner of a great biodiversity which is not exploited yet, asking for a model of protection that does not fit exactly into the geographical indications requirements.Brazilian geographical indications is more requested only on the basis of external demand, as it can be seem in the markets of coffee and cachaça, demonstrating that the TRIPs agreements is not well adaptated into the Brazilian agricultural sector, leaving space for further sui generis intellectual property rights. Geographical indications are a legal concept created if only some specific social, cultural and economical conditions were reunited. Otherwise, as a social institution, geographical indications should be adapted in order to be applied in the Brazilian context. Furthermore, the economical and political environments promote the evolution of the concept of appellations of origin towards competition law in the European context, creating new goals to intellectual property

Full textThe fast growing sixties are responsible for a lot of pressure on the traditional landscape of the "Val de Loire" and many of its ensuing changes have altered the intrinsic nature of open spaces. If we aim at protecting our landscapes while re-arranging them one has to know all about their intimate nature. In order to do an unbiased analysis of the impact of this new arrangement it is necessary to draw a picture of the landscape legacy left by past generations before going into more recent changes. In my thesis, scenery is often referred to as being the reflection of our civilization. Let's see how this comes up in our ever more sophisticated society. In the rural world people are throwing off the yoke of constraint and we bear witness to a new distribution of properties. Streams and rivers are canalized and harnessed to prevent them from flooding the meadows nearby. Hedgerows are fast disappearing so that the eye takes in vast open spaces. In villages the housing uniformity has been steadily on the wane to be replaced by a more functional landscape tatting into account each individual's specific needs. This civilization, whose technical means have made it possible an emancipation from constraint imposed by mother nature, has reduced the gap between the different way of life, has equipped itself with important collective constructions and finally has played a paramount part on open spaces. The philosophy behind it all has changed and the functional seems to have the best although there exist some scattered interesting attempts at estimating the impact of new accomplishments and above all at enriching and maintaining some of our historical heritage

Full textHow can we preserve a threatened heritage? Should we neglect it and lose our memory of national and local history? Can tourism be a solution to preserve architectural private wealth? This thesis explores several fields, such as tourism, heritage, architecture and literature in order to determine what can be the future of architectural wealth in rural areas. Using various sources (interviews, field research, guides, video, media, social networks, etc.), and starting with an overview of the situation, we have arrived at the following question: can tourism be a solution to preserve architectural private wealth? Our study focuses on three Portuguese-speaking regions (Vale do Paraíba – Brazil, Ponte de Lima – Portugal and Goa - India), where many palaces were built until the 19th century. After a period of magnificence, their importance gradually faded in collective memory. They stand as witnesses of our history. Nowadays, it is more and more difficult to maintain these buildings. It is interesting to compare these three areas: their common point is the disappearance of their heritage, but they differ greatly in their tourism policies. The first part of this study describes the architectural heritage in Portuguese-speaking areas, and explains how it grew up and why it is now in danger. The second part analyses solutions offered in terms of rural tourism, and how family memory is thus preserved

Full textThe notion of poverty has been the subject of much debate around the world. Previous analyses have emphasized the one-dimensional character based essentially on a monetary approach (income or consumption expenditure). Thanks to the work of some authors such as Townsend and Sen, the multidimensional character is highlighted, considering the difficulty of quantifying certain variables that translated the idea of lack. In addition, many empirical studies show that the rural sector remains the most affected by poverty. In the case of Côte d'Ivoire, poverty is also a rural phenomenon and most studies have focused on the monetary approach. This study addresses the analysis of poverty by focusing on rural farming and apprehends the phenomenon of poverty from three (03) approaches: (i) monetary; (ii) relative deprivation and (iii) wealth. The results show that poverty remains important in this sector with a high rate for the indicator of the relative deprivation. In addition, there is greater monetary inequality than other types of poverty whatever the year (2002 and 2008).The identification of the explanatory factors of the membership or not in the class of the poor shows that the variables related to the gender, to the type of religion and the age group are the most common in the various years and various approaches.Based on the obtained results , the following recommendations are formulated: (i) towards the Ivorian government, use monetary and non-monetary approaches in next analyses on poverty in Côte d’Ivoire; emphasize the construction of new infrastructures and the purchase of new equipment; improve communication about government actions; build the capacity of producers to use improved inputs and relevant tools; (ii) to agricultural producers, adopt agricultural technologies and techniques and quality inputs, accept to join cooperative enterprises; (iii) for cooperatives, it is necessary to look for outlets for its members, to negotiate better remunerations for agricultural productions, to transform farmers into real agricultural entrepreneurs

Full textThrough a case-study of wine-farming in Bordeaux, this thesis aims to analyse how vineyardprices reflect heritage. We define heritage as a set of properties and institutions which arehistorically and territorially located. Locally, this defines organisations specific to the Bordeauxviticulture. We show that farmland can be an asset through which the viticulture heritage isbuilt. We assume that the value of this heritage is revealed by the preferences of agents onthe farmland market. From this assumption and through a hedonic analysis, we analyse theprice of vineyards sold between 2002 and 2010 in the Gironde department in France. Thiswork is based on an original multisource geographic information systeme data and uses spatialeconometric techniques. We show that vineyard prices on the market are the reflection of thelocal viticulture and of its past and future links to the territory

Full textFacing the contemporary changes of the rural worlds, the comprehension of the ability of the rural societies to reproduce and organize their territories is a crucial stake. This PhD in Ethnology is integrated into the pluri-disciplinary researches of a landscape ecology laboratory. The aims of the study are to understand the dynamics between societies and territories in rural societies of the Bas-Comminges, in Haute-Garonne (France). Those societies have the capacities to assimilate changes and are marked by the presence of a specific social system, known as “the house-centered system”, which characteristic is to involve the stability of the real estate. The ethnographic study of the inheritance, the limits and the composition of the real estate since the beginning of the 19th century and the integration of the data collected in a Geographical Information System will reveal the bond between a social organization and its territory. The results are articulated in three points. (1) The real estates are stable during the last 2 centuries. The studied society presents a strong social hierarchy. The social status is based on the land richness and its maintenance from generation to generation. (2) It is noted that it is necessary for the Bas-Commingeois to hold but also to cultivate the land to remain its statute. The objective of the owners is to respect a principle of autonomy of the properties and a diversity of the practices and cover of the land. (3) The maintenance of the status within the hierarchy also passes by an involvement of the Bas-Commingeois within the village’s institutions. The respect of these principles induces the permanence of the territory and an adaptation of the system to the changes of the rural world. This study answers questions about the dynamics of agricultural and forest spaces and contributes to a better understanding of the capacities of the rural worlds to survive
Shen, Shiwei. "Les vieux villages chinois : évolution, patrimonialisation et mise en tourisme." Thesis, Angers, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014ANGE0026/document.
Full textTraditional China was a highly agricultural society where the majority of people lived in villages. Each village constituted a miniature world, which showed great diversity at all levels. All the characteristics of rural China mainly remained in ancient villages. The settlement distribution structure, as we see today, is the product of continuous evolution in three thousands years. The concept of heritage appeared in China in early times. But heritage protection, in particular, the concept of architectural heritage protection in China was more closed to now. As for settlement protection, history of action from government could be merely traced back to three decades. These actions first of all came out for " Famous Cities" (1982), and then for "Historical Blocks" (1986) and finally for "Famous Town and Village" (2002). The protection of ancient villages in China focused on the lists published with different names and levels, facing a series of paradoxes and with long way to go. Despite enormous criticism, tourism utilization is still one of the alternatives in the protection of ancient villages. The case of Xidi showed the double process of heritage and tourism development, which started in the Mid-1980s. Under the advocation and leadership of local village elites, Xidi tourism development implemented the management of collective ownership enterprise. The entire development witnessed the profound changes in the village and various conflicts among different actors. All sorts of conflicts and crisis accompanying eventually lead to the end of Xidi mode after 27 years practice. Xidi, however, has not been in peace due to the reform imposed by the local government, there still has been intense and widespread controversy surrounding Xidi as well as many other Chinese ancient villages

Full textFrom the Xth to the XIth century, the castra or castella mentioned in texts were most often situated on rocky summits : small, without enceinte, with stones irregularly bonded, often with herring-bone courses, their construction is entrusted to professional overseeing a less specialised work force, while counts and viscounts choose the location of these castles, controlling roads, it is their inhabitants who finance the construction. Others, not mentioned in texts, were no doubt built by independent small lords, many of these castles have houses at their bases. From the XIIth century onwards, on more accessible sites, the castle only protects against small scale attacks; simply planned, witch non flanked enceintes, sometimes just one massive building. In the north of the region of Beziers, castles are situated alongside roads and mining areas. Toll points control the obligatory passages. In the Lodeve region. The bishop installs systematically throughout his territory small castles and fortiae. When a castle is surrounded by a closed village, it tends to overflow beyond the enceinte; fortified habitations built by local lords, co-lords and knights tend to be separated from the original caput castri. The castrun can also be a set of habitations, ruled over by a community, situated at a certain distance from the caput castriwhere the population takes refuge in case of danger. There are few cha ges after the royal conquest; tow royal castellanies are established in the northern part of the Beziers region: some defensive characteristics are introduced, but only one family copy the royal strongholds by rebuilding its castle to compete with royal authority
Giancaspero, Laura. "L'art mural comme stratégie de survie des communautés rurales. Trois études de cas en milieu rural italien." Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018USPCA158/document.
Full textThis thesis is focused on Italian mural paintings in rural environments. Through three case studies, it analyses artistic phenomenon as an expression of the ecological relationship between the local community and their environment. The study of this phenomenon, conducted by combining the geohistorical approach with American ecocriticism, reveals that these murals represent a response to the many fractures: territorial, identity and ecological, which have occurred in this rural area during contemporary times. All these changes, therefore, broke the centuries-old relationships that local communities maintained with their territory by threatening their own existence. This is a common phenomenon in Italy that has resulted in the abandonment of many rural villages. In the case of the three villages analyzed, the local population employed the mural art in order to reclaim their place and to redefine the relationship with their environment, which finally affirmed the survival of these small communities

Full textBecause the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage and territory Development are part of their missions, the Regional Parks are heritage stakeholders since their inception in the late 1960s. The Pilat territory, labeled among the first in 1974, represents a relevant field to ask for the inclusion of this key issue within the territory project. In addition, a regional park is facing the need that residents appropriate the territory, the latter being a collective output.Under the Syndicat mixte various charters, this work proposes thus to dissect the heritage policy progressive construction and identify changes in the maintained ratio between the Regional Park and local associations, actors at the heart of the heritage process and space appropriation with a dual purpose : both historical and geographical. This study intends, first, to introduce the involved stakeholder: the regional park of Pilat and its community. Then, the demonstration is hinging on the four successive projects of the territory. The methodology is based on written and oral archives’ analysis, field observations, especially thanks to the Search Convention Industrial Training (CIFRE) device and the sociological survey realization

Full textHow does the imaginary of places stemming from literature contributes to enhance a territory? At a time when rural areas, aspiring to strengthen their attractiveness, take actions to renew their image, the literary heritage can be considered a resource: writers' houses, routes or literary trails thus contribute to the territorial inscription of literature and its imagination. This thesis is interested in the creation of such places, in their animation and in their territorial integration. It also deals with their reception and with their appropriation by the inhabitants and tourists. A statistical analysis of writer's houses in France allows for a typology which underlines the structural, spatial and organizational specificities of these polymorphic places. In addition, case studies inform about the peculiarities of the relation between author and place, and about the dynamics of the house as multi-actors territorial project. Two methods are implemented to seize the visitors’ representations: a survey by questionnaire, extended by the analysis of a more creative and more sensitive way of expression, visitors' log (« livres d’or »). The analysis of questionnaires underlines the diversity of the motives for visits which are not exclusively literary. The study of visitors' log highlights the immersive dimensions of an experience where feelings meet memories and imagination. A multiscalar typology of literary routes is then realized, enriched by case studies. From Berry to Provence, from the Cévennes to Quebec via Livradois, literary routes propose the exploring of a region together with a writer and imaginary characters. They so redefine the notion of authenticity by transcending the usual demarcation between the reality and fiction. All the analyzed elements contribute to consider a form of tourism combining knowledge, imagination and experimentation of places, drawing the outlines of a new tourist practice of space : that of a literary tourism focused on itinerancy and creativity

Full textThe marginal rural territory is a “paradoxical entity”, torn between powerful neighbors and diverse cultural influences, but still possessing a unique personality. As it contains limited endogenous resources, this type of territory depends on nearby or distant urban areas in order for its residents to benefit from diverse and well-paying jobs, as well as for access to various services. Even so, it continues to develop an individual identity as a separate entity. Due to its shortcomings, the marginal rural territory is dependent on external provisions. Nevertheless, this openness is very selective and self-regulated. The identity of such a territory is acted out on different time scales in a succession of phases of openness and rebuilding. It is a particularly complex subject. Its modelling requires the exploration, analysis and harnessing of this complexity. We observe it at different levels: changes in scale, links between the various actors, even between these actors and the territory itself. We base our approach toward this subject on a major presupposition: the identity of a territory is defined on a collective as well as an individual scale. The link between collective territorial identity and individual territorial identities is quite complex. Our work consists in tracing the dimensions of the collective territorial universe, based on those of a collection of individuals who represent the territory. As a result, the cornerstone of this work was the creation of a model of individual territorial identity, the graphical translation of which provides a visual representation. The collective identity profile is obtained by the comparison of individual profiles. The application of the model to the Alsace Bossue region during two periods of time separated by nearly 100 years provided us with some results. In 1920-30, Alsace Bossue presented a narrow, insular identity with a very selective openness to inter-generational spaces of circulation. In 2010, its identity is marked by a greater openness, regulated however by generalized arbitration and tension between ties, and by a need for emancipation, what we call a synergy of opposites

Full textThe environmental protection leads to sustainability of the territory and thus of the non- developable land which is not only set aside from urban transformation, but also deserves a sensitive and deep concern considering its rural nature. If we examine the acceptance by land regulations –in their subsequent versions– of the exceptional uses of such land, we can confirm a heterogeneous treatment of ownership and several differentiated regional regulations with the risk of contravening the basic state legislation or the –basic or essential– equal treatment of all Spanish people in exercising their right of ownership (section 149.1.1 of the Spanish Constitution). But in this context, we must also remind the global warming trend with the subsequent loss of biodiversity and our quality of life. As a result of this acknowledgment, this research appeals to the environmental regulatory framework (sections 45, 46 and 47 of the Spanish Constitution) to ensure all of us a decent quality of life and requires us to continue working in the protection of biodiversity, consistently with human activity. To this end, the classical treatment of the exceptional uses of such land from new approaches and the reconnection of the country house (“masia”) as the cornerstone of biodiversity with the territorial model, are being studied. For this reason, this thesis adopts the main purpose of forging links between legal regulations on country houses and farmhouses cataloguing, which is applicable to Catalonia since 2002, with the environment and sustainable development. Finally, measures are proposed to compensate the advantageous singularities of the rural architectural heritage cataloguing in Catalunya, on which there is no singular linking, and a uniform and sustainable treatment is intended of the urban problem of disconnection of the extraordinary uses or new “quasi-urban” uses of such heritage from the environment. On such latter uses, this work has considered, due to its particularities, the family home –foreseeing its division into a condominium, without constituting an urban plot with “urban uses” purposes in relation to the abolished concept of “population centre”– and the establishment of country tourism –as a growing business that has reached the tourist housing sector–. Then, these standardising measures are defended by analogy with other environmental areas qualified as a current risk for the well-being of global society, as it is the case of flood-prone areas, with special reference to environmental taxation.

Full textThis research stems from the on-going renegotiation of the social bonds that link farmers to the civil society. This renegotiation is looked at from the angle of the recent opening process that rural areas are going through in the name of patrimonial and environmental interests. We put forward the hypothesis that the publicization of rural areas is not restricted to new uses, but is also an opportunity to turn them to the public sphere. Using a pragmatic and interactionnist interpretation of social bonds, we propose an analytical model based on three topiques of urbanity : open space, public space and place. Those are used as keys to understand how the ordinary social spatialities redefine the modalities of the "vivre-ensemble". This redefinition is not uniform. For this gradual normative inventiveness of social interactions could be due to both the inter-individuality of joint investments and the higher visibility of discourse-building places. The contextual analysis of the requalification processes and the study of the farmers/non-farmers co-presence situations in Dordogne confirm the operationality of the notion of open space. The ladders also stress the ambiguous role of the patrimonialization normative beam in the reinforcing of the public order, as well as the reduction of contested place identity. However, we find the traces of places and ""common worlds" moments, as first potential steps towards the advent of a public sphere. While cultural plurality increases, this reflexion thus aims at clarifying the role of space in the normative processes by emphasizing the everyday social experiences and the importance of conceiving space as a context of action

Propuesta de una sistemática integrada para el análisis de los paisajes valencianos" considers as an exercise of analysis of the Valencian regional landscapes and the study in depth of one of them, from the design of a generic methodology for the study of the landscape. The territorial treatment of the concept landscape, that emanates of the European Landscape Convention and that picks up Law 4/2004 of the Valencian Autonomous Government of Territorial Planning and Protection of the Landscape, has insisted to us to raise a systematics based on the identification, classification, characterization, evaluation and design of action measures, that using a Spatial Data Infrastructure managed by a SIG, allow its application in exercises of planning on different territorial scales. Also, the thesis carries out an exercise of hierarchic classification of the landscape, from the organizers elements and the natural-patrimonial processes, distinguishing five territorial levels: functional areas, landscaping scopes, landscapes type, landscaping areas and units of inventory. The zone selected like pilot area for the application of systematics, appears like a landscape of tabular reliefs, inner graves and Iberian plateaus. This one has been denominated Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora y Bajo Cabriel, which comprises of the Functional Area of Requena. The analysis systematics has allowed us to identify in the pilot area a total of 92 units of inventory to a supralocal scale, that are integrated in 20 landscaping areas, to a local scale. The characterization of each one of the units of inventory and the landscaping areas has taken place, that shapes in the document, by means of a template of inventory or characterization. Moreover the systematics is completed with a method of evaluation of the landscape of mixed type, in which it evaluates the quality and the fragility of the landscape and the heritage of the inventory units, and with a map of proposals of landscaping action for pilot area.Really, the thesis defends that, by their character and by its essence the landscape is a geographic heritage of all the Valencians, that needs to harness its scientific knowledge and social recognition.

Full textThe public asset management which recently adopted by public sector, consists in making decision, considered as optimal, about the acquisition, the maintenance, the operating and the disposition of fixed assets. To make those decisions, several management tools can be found like the fixed assets accounting. Those tools constitute the asset management system. It is what is marked on the research about the asset management. Our study is about the way in which those decisions are made on the level of two malagasy's municipalities: the suburban municipality of Ambohimanga Rova and the rural municipality of Mahabo. The analysis of several decisions implies the potential roles of those tools which does not stop only with the decision-making process but can also constitute elements of legitimation of political decisions

Full textThe enhancement of archaeological sites from the high imperial period in Spain, has often been carried out by using modern materials from the construction sector (such as cement, reinforced concrete, the assembly of metal structures, etc.) without its effect having been previously studied. Over time, this has caused not only negative consequences in its integrity, especially from the physical-chemical and mechanical incompatibilities between the original materials and the posterior additions; but also the use of current materials has facilitated the decontextualization of the archaeological site, and a consequent and progressive disengagement from society. Therefore, given the variety of documented forms of intervention and in order to avoid the deterioration of archaeological structures, there is a need to define a type of sustainable intervention under a social purpose, which allows the long-term conservation of this heritage in the best possible conditions. For the development of the present PhD thesis, the archaeological site of La Calerilla de Hortunas (Requena, Valencia) has been chosen as an object of study. It is a rustic village of the high imperial period (centuries I-IV AD) located in a rural area, whose deterioration is mainly due to the atmospheric and biological agents that directly affect the unprotected structures, since the archaeological works were ended in the year 2000. The current state of the site makes it imperative to develop a sustainable intervention through respectful materials that ensure the safeguarding of this heritage. The methodology used focuses on the experimentation and development of different types of restitution mortars, based on three lines of action and their respective variables: construction experimental mortars (manufactured with hydraulic lime and sand aggregates from the construction sector); related experimental mortars (made from materials commonly used in interventions of conservation and/or restoration actions of archaeological sites in the Valencian Community); and traditional experimental mortars (made by using materials based on the previous characterization of the original mortars from the archaeological site of La Calerilla and on the study of the type of architecture of the high imperial period). Thus, through the production of samples, each variable has been subjected to the different types of physical-mechanical tests selected, which has allowed to determine the properties of each mortar and to select the most suitable one for the future enhancement of the enclave of La Calerilla. With the results obtained, this PhD thesis shows how through sustainable intervention techniques it is possible to guarantee the long-term safeguarding of archaeological sites in the open sky in better conditions and, in addition, to favor the contextualization of the remains and their interpretation.

Full textGeographical Indications (GIs) plays an important role in economic growth and development in the rural area. Particularly in the area where the geographical characteristics and cultures highly contributes to a given product quality. This research aims to explore the possibility to evaluate the value of the region known as Vale do Paraíba Fluminense - Brazil or "Vale do Café" and to highlight the potential of coffee as a high quality product with environmental friendly and social responsibility features. The coffee from this area is a cultural heritage that may provide a valuable economic resource for the area. The first phase of the research was carried out by using secondary data and in the second phase we applied Participatory Methodology according to the FAO using on-line questionnaires to identify the connection among the origin area, the local products and the possibility to use its natural resource for the development. For qualitative analysis, we interviewed the representatives of the different categories of stakeholders to gain the context of the historical context of the region. Finally, we conducted a quantitative survey with coffee consumers using the questionnaire. The finding indicates that the territory could reintroduce a historical café as a symbol of wealth and decadence of that region and as an element of local economic potentials, exploiting the immaterial part of agricultural history, reintroducing the product in the local memory, drawing the population to get close to their history, particularly to raise their awareness of the value of the geographical name "Vale do Paraiba Fluminense" or "Vale do Café" affiliated to the history of the region, and the coffee product that aims to revive favor of the territory, relocating the geographical name.

Abstract: This research has for objective to identify, through its cultural landscapes, the characteristic architecture of the country properties of seven historical farms in the region of Limeira, formed from century XIX, located currently in four cities, Limeira, Cordeirópolis, Iracemápolis and Santa Gertrudes, pertaining to the Hidrográfica Basin of Rios Piracicaba, Jundiaí and Capivari. These farms form the set of "Historical Farms" of the tourist program of the Municipal City hall of Limeira. For recognition of the searched territory the Method of Guided Research is used the Processes (Method POP), considered for Argollo Sting (2004), based in the vision of processes, for understanding of the territorial occupation of these farms. For the analysis of these properties, one uses tables, maps, photos and surveys of field, that allow to identify the agricultural architecture in the process of agricultural development. This characterization "architectural-ruralista" contributes for the recognition of the region as area destined to the preservation of "cultural landscapes". On the basis of study carried through for knowledge of the remaining architecture of each farm, one becomes fullfilled an evaluation on the ordinance and occupation of this agricultural territory, facilitating the apprehension of the existing components in the spaces of the farms, today explored for the ecological tourism
