Abstract:
During the last 40 years New Testament scholarship did not apply the term “apostolic letter” consistently. All early Christian letters and only the New Testament or Pauline respectively Deutero-Pauline letters were called “apostolic letters” by New Testament scholars. Since the term from the sources ἀπόστολος in the undisputed Pauline letters refers to Paul’s function as founder of early Christian communities but not to his function as their leader, New Testament scholars should avoid the misleading term “apostolic letter.” Within the corpus of New Testament letters one should rather differentiate between “kerygmatic letters,” “pseudepigraphic Pauline letters” and “early Christian Diaspora letters.”

Abstract:
The New Testament letters attributed to Paul depict Jesus Christ as the Son (υἱός) seventeen times. Using the phenomenon of intertextuality and typology, the present article aims to identify the Old Testament’s inspiration for Pauline use of the title “Son” for Jesus. It appears that some main archetypes of Jesus’ sonship can be recognized (Adam, Isaac, the paschal lamb replacing the firstborn son, Israel corporately as son, David, Solomon, Daniel’s Son of Man, and indirectly Isaiah’s Servant of the Lord). These pictures of sonship are intertwined by Paul and used for all main stages of Jesus’ life and activity (birth, death, resurrection, ascension and ruling, sending the Spirit and the second coming).

Abstract:
New Testament scholars continue to debate the number of missing ‘particles’ in disputed Pauline letters in order to advocate or challenge their pseudonymity. Surprisingly, however, participants in the debate do not usually define particles nor do they explain how they count missing types. Addressing these methodological issues, the present study suggests using the broader category of ‘indeclinables’ instead of particles, and to count missing types by either comparing the data for a particular letter (or group of letters) against another letter (or group of letters) or in light of the entire Pauline letter corpus. Since the overall result proves to be different for both approaches, it appears that the question regarding the number of missing indeclinables in (pseudo-)Pauline literature is essentially one of method.

Abstract:
The final portion of 46 (Pauline letters: c. 200 AD) is lost. Standard works assert that the undamaged papyrus did not contain the Pastoral Epistles, and this has been taken as evidence for the existence of a Pauline corpus without the Pastorals. However, in the final third of the extant manuscript, the scribe compresses his writing substantially (by up to 50%). Different explanations of this phenomenon are discussed: the most likely being that the scribe always intended to include the Pastorals, but simply miscalculated the space required. 46 cannot be used as evidence for a Pauline corpus omitting the Pastorals.

Abstract:
Our intention in this article is to provide a study into this set of letters of the New Testament titled Catholic Letters, which, since the ancient times, has faced considerable issues in the acceptance and in the study of its corpus, and which constitute the group of letters of the New Testament that are the least studied or explored, even in our seminaries, colleges and religious universities in general, either Catholic or Protestant; we also believe that it would not be an exaggeration to say that the researches in this field are more common in the Catholic circles than in the Protestant ones, given the difficulties that the Fathers of the Reformation raised regarding the canonicity of some of these letters and the fact that, in the Protestant circles, the domain really belongs to the Pauline texts and not to the non-Pauline texts of the New Testament, such as Gospels, Catholic Letters, Hebrews and Revelation. Given the scarcity of documentation in this area, we believe that an illustrative article will help us go further in this field and extend the production of material in this area, in order to help advance our biblical and theological studies.

Abstract:
Recent investigation of the Pauline corpus has brought into focus several important facets of Paul's rhetorical skill. It is now generally recognized that Paul knew and used the forms and techniques of classical rhetoric. Various analyses of 1 and 2 Thessalonians, Corinthians 1–4, Galatians, for example, have reinforced the conviction that Paul consciously constructed his letters using rhetorical patterns and appeals. This type of investigation does not, however, operate in opposition to the epistolary analysis that was pioneered by Robert Funk and others. Indeed, attention to epistolary clichés and formulae proves especially valuable in reconstructing the ‘rhetorical situation’ of each letter, since these provide a road map of the conversation between Paul and his partners, indicating, for example, what is prior shared knowledge, what is new information and what are the points of controversy in the matters discussed.

Abstract:
In Rom 16.18 we have a unique word, alongside another word which is used by Paul in a unique way. That is challenge enough to any student of the language of the Greek NT. ‘Faire speeches’ is the AV's rendering of εὐλογία. Elsewhere in the NT, where it occurs 16 times, εὐλογία is always used in an approving sense, of the human praise of God or of the divine bounty for which praise is due. The word is found nine times in the Pauline corpus; a little earlier in this same letter, Paul had spoken about his certainty that he will visit Rome ‘in the fullness of the blessing (εὐλογία) of Christ’ (15.29 RSV). After that and the other Pauline and the non-Pauline usage, the use at 16.18 grates on the ear.1Its context shows that here εὐλογία is being used disparagingly, of men who flatter to deceive (ἐξαπατῶσιν) and work to mislead and divide the community. Today, we might call such men ‘smoothies’ who ‘turn on the charm’, ‘chat up’ the gullible, ‘talk up’ their policies and ‘sweet talk’ their way to success for their own selfish purposes.

Abstract:
“THE GOSPEL OF PAULO”: ANALYSIS FROM THE THOUGHT OF JAMES D.G. DUNNAbstractThe article aims to explain some aspects of the "Gospel of Paul" axiom as presented in the works of James Dunn. His research highlights aspects of Paul’s Gospel inherited from Scripture and the Gospel of Christ. The break with Judaism occurs with the resurrection of Christ. In fact, the death and resurrection of Christ inaugurates a new covenant, new life, spiritual life. The study shows James Dunn's contribution in highlighting the tension between new and old, between the historical-salvific and apocalyptic perspective in Pauline theology. Contributions are not opposed. The apocalyptic genre is common in the Jewish and Christian tradition. Thus in Paul's new perspective, the opposition between Judaism and Christianity, faith and works is not accentuated. The Gospel of Paul is good news that eliminates antagonisms and includes differences. Keywords: Perspective. Paul. Gospel. Jesus. Judaism.

Abstract:
Text in German with summaries in German and English<br>Die Kreuzestheologie erlebt seit Beginn des 20. The “theology of the cross” has seen a remarkable come-back since the beginning of 20th century. While the various contributions share similar roots, they differ widely in their approaches and constructions. Therefore, the simple question regarding the nature of a theology of the cross has to be raised again. This study seeks answers in seven writings of the Corpus Paulinum, which will be examined for their use of references to Jesus’ death on the cross. Although these letters differ significantly in their use of crossrelated terminology, they consistently testify to the crucial significance of the cross of Jesus in their theological paradigm. Statements about the cross are always an essential ingredient in the argumentation of these letters. The exegetical survey leads to the conclusion that Pauline theology of the cross is an all-encompassing and critical approach and principle for Christian theology and ecclesial practice.<br>New Testament<br>M. Abstract:
This thesis examines the use of hagios and related words in the Pauline Literature. Its aim is to outline the understanding of holiness in Paul. A methodological outline is following on introduction (Holiness in OT and Second Temple Judaism) and summary of research. A first survey of the relevant biblical references indicates a division into three chapters to be appropriate: Holy Spirit, Sanctification and the Holy Ones. Paul’s thinking on Holiness and Sanctification is theocentrically grounded with strong christological inclinations. Sanctification concerns all areas of life, demands dedication and ethical consequences and leads to eschatological perspectives. Sanctification is a com- munal enterprise, forms identity and urges for solidarity. Sanctification doesn’t follow on justification. Both are parallel expressions for the Christ-event reaching out on human lives. Holiness-terminology has a manifold communicative potential: the transfer towards God’s sphere is described, paraenesis is motivated for, identity founded and strengthened, christian solidarity advertised for.<br>Diese Arbeit untersucht den Gebrauch von Heiligkeitsterminologie (insbesondere Hagios und Stammverwandte) im Corpus Paulinum, um sich so dem Heiligkeitsverstandnis des Paulus zu nahern. Nach Einleitung (u.a. Heiligung geschieht in Gemeinschaft. Abstract:
This dissertation attempts to illuminate the significance of what has been called the "coworkers" for Paul's mission. At the same time it revises the traditional portrait of Paul as a "lone ranger", not properly understood and appreciated by others. Thus the focus is on the way in which Paul together with his co-workers as his missionary partners achieved the various tasks of early Chrisian mission, namely the proclamation of the gospel and the consolidation of churches. This phenomenon is best described with the German term Kollegialmission, i.e. a mission carried by a team of colleagues. A survey of research is followed by a detailed analysis of this phenomenon in the letters commonly recognised as written by Paul himself. In additon to explicit statements on the co-workers, attention is also given to implicit references, e.g. verb forms in the first person plural which appear in some letters and contribute to understanding this Kollegialmission. Then the same methodological procedure is applied to the disputed letters of Paul. A final chapter examines the portrait of Paul and his co-workers in the Book of Acts. This dissertation demonstrates that this understanding and practice of Kollegialmission was a central point in Paul's mission and self-understanding. His co-workers receive their commission and authority from God, to whom they are responsible. The gospel constitutes the foundation for this cooperation between Paul and his co-workers. Thus the co-workers perform the same duties as Paul himself, though his special apostolate remains in place. The picture of the Kollegialmission in the Deuteropauline letters differs only slightly from that of the letters generally recognised as Paul's own. As the author of Acts is mainly interested in the person of Paul, his co-workers appear increasingly on the backstage as the story unfolds. This examination closes with an application of some principles of Paul's Kollegialmission to present day congregational ministry and mission work.<br>Theology<br>M.Th.

Jahrhundertsnoch an Vehemenz zugenommen. The discussion of the proper interpretation of the death of Christ has been gaining momentum since the beginning of the 21st century. In particular, the traditional interpretation of Christ’s death as expiation and penal substitution faces severe criticism and its warranty is challenged from several perspectives. This thesis takes up the essential critique voiced in the discussion in central Europe. By means of a historical-canonical exegesis of the explicit or implicit references to Christ’s death in the authentic Pauline letters, it examines how Christ’s death is understood in each case. The questions of the possible backdrop of these references to the death of Christ will also be examined. The thesis argues that, in Paul’s understanding of Christ’s death, penal substitution and atonement are appropriate and central categories which must not be abandoned in reconstructions of Pauline soteriology<br>New Testament<br>.M. Abstract:
This research aims to study the presents hymns in the corpus paulinum (Phil 2,6-11; Col 1,15-20; Eph 1,3-14) from its sitz im leben cultic, and considering the relationship between Scripture and liturgy in the early christian community. The research will start from the observation of the presence of hymns in the religions of the peoples of the ancient Near East, through Israel and the Hellas, until the early Church. Although the forms are taken up, the New Testament hymns differ themselves from their predecessors as its core content: the Christ event. So, it is considered will each of the hymns in its christological reference in the context of pauline theology. Finally, will be analyzed the presence of these hymns in the roman Liturgy current, identifying each of the celebrative contexts in which these hymns are present, whether as a prayer of praise addressed to God, either as exhortation to the community. Hymns thus express that double movement that defines every liturgical action: the glorification of God and the sanctification of man

Abstract:
In the Acts of the Apostles, Peter and Paul play the lead roles. The impulsive fisherman from Galilee and the erstwhile persecutor of the followers of Jesus become the primary mouthpieces for this new movement among both Jews and Gentiles. Yet for all of Luke’s descriptions of the apostles’ travels and their deeds, he leaves large gaps in the overall narratives of their lives—gaps also not addressed in the letters ascribed to these apostles. For later Christians these biographical gaps needed to be filled. This gave rise to a robust corpus of literary and artistic traditions that drew inspiration from, and expanded freely upon, both the Acts of the Apostles and the Pauline and Petrine epistolary traditions....
