Abstract:
AbstractIn this research, we successfully fabricated a novel closed pore polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) composite nanofibrous membrane (PCNM) on the substrate of a commercial polypropylene window mesh. First, smooth and uniform PAN/PVP composite nanofibers (PCNs) were manufactured by blending PAN and PVP with a mass ratio of 5:5 during electrospinning. Subsequently, the prepared PCNs were hot pressed in a vacuum drying oven at a given temperature of 90°C. The morphology and filter efficiency of PCN and PCNM were investigated. It was found that hot-pressing treatment significantly affected the pore structure and orientation of PCNM, which contributed to its closed pore structure and good alignment. The filter efficiency results indicated that the hot-pressed PCNMs have excellent removal efficiency of up to 96.8% of fine particulate matter. This research demonstrates that PCNMs have potential as filters for indoor dust removal and will provide a new idea for the development of air filters.

Abstract:
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and naphthalenes (PCNs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants with varying degrees of toxicity. There are hundreds of possible congeners with similar chemical characteristics, which make these compounds difficult to isolate in environmental samples. Historically, PCBs and PCNs were identified by using an Aroclor or Halowax mixture instead of the individual compounds, which was impractical because of limited numbers of individual standards. A retention index database was developed with all 209 PCBs and 36 PCNs to help identify these chemicals in environmental and biological matrixes. This study uses linear and Lee retention indices to identify all 209 PCBs and 36 PCNs on nine gas chromatography columns. The most toxic congeners, the 12 dioxin-like PCBs, were compared across all columns to determine which stationary phases gave the best selectivity for those compounds. Column selectivity was also examined to determine columns for confirmatory analyses and GC×GC separations. The Rxi-17SilMS demonstrated the most drastic difference in PCB selectivity and, to a lesser extent, PCNs when compared with the other eight columns and could work as a confirmatory column or as a 2nd dimension column for GC×GC separations.

Abstract:
BackgroundGeneral practices in England have been encouraged by national policy to work together on a larger scale by creating primary care networks (PCNs). Policy guidance recommended that they should serve populations of 30 000–50 000 people to perform effectively.AimTo describe variation in the size and characteristics of PCNs and their populations.Design and settingCross-sectional analysis in England.MethodUsing published information from January 2020, PCNs were identified that contained <30 000, between 30 000–50 000, and >50 000 people. Percentiles were calculated to describe variation in size and population characteristics. PCN composition within each commissioning region was also examined.ResultsIn total, 6758 practices had formed 1250 PCNs. Seven hundred and twenty-six (58%) PCNs had the recommended population of 30 000–50 000 people. Eighty-four (7%) PCNs contained <30 000 people. Four hundred and forty (35%) PCNs contained >50 000 people. Thirty-four (3%) PCNs comprised just one practice and 77 (6%) PCNs contained >10 practices. Some PCNs contained more than double the proportions of older people and people with chronic conditions compared to other PCNs. More than half of the population were from very socioeconomically deprived areas in 172 (14%) PCNs. Only six (4%) of the 135 commissioning regions ensured all PCNs were in the recommended population range. All practices had joined a single PCN in three (2%) commissioning regions.ConclusionMore than 40% of the PCNs were not of the recommended size, and there was substantial variation in their composition and characteristics. This high variability between PCNs is a risk to their future performance.

Abstract:
Microporous carbon nanospheres (PCNS)-reinforced magnesium (Mg) composites were prepared using polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as surfactant and PCNS as reinforcement. The influence of PVP treatment and the effectiveness of PCNS on the mechanical properties of Mg-based composites were investigated. The results show that the PCNS can enhance the properties of the Mg matrix. Moreover, the PVP can effectively improve the dispersion of PCNS in the Mg matrix but had a negative influence on the tensile properties of composites. The MgO films with high tensile strength were produced between matrix and reinforcement after removing PVP, which effectively promotes the interface compatibility and improves the properties of the composite. The tensile yield strength and specific strength of PCNS-reinforced Mg matrix composite exhibited 177 MPa and 102.4 × 103 N∙m/kg, respectively, which were 77% and 78% higher than those of the Mg matrix.

Abstract:
The pollution status of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) in the sediment of the Yangtze River Basin, Asia’s largest river basin, was estimated. The total concentrations of PCNs (mono- to octa-CNs) ranged from 0.103 to 1.631 ng/g. Mono-, di-, and tri-PCNs—consisting of CN-1, CN-5/7, and CN-24/14, respectively, as the main congeners—were the dominant homolog groups. Combustion indicators and principal component analysis showed that the emissions from halowax mixtures were the main contributor to PCNs in sediment, among most of the sampling sites. The mean total toxic equivalent (TEQ) was calculated to be 0.045 ± 0.077 pg TEQ/g, which indicates that the PCNs in sediments were of low toxicity to aquatic organisms. This work will expand the database on the distribution and characteristics of PCNs in the river sediment of China.

Abstract:
Background: The prevalence of symptoms in pancreatic cystic neoplasms (PCNs) is mainly based on retrospective surgical series. The aim of this study is to describe the actual prevalence of symptoms in PCNs under surveillance. Methods: Patients with PCNs under surveillance observed from 2015 to 2017 were submitted to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a specific interview. An identical survey was carried out on a control population matched for age, sex, and comorbidities in which any pancreatic disease was excluded by MRI. Results: Two groups of 184 individuals were compared. Patients with PCNs have a similar prevalence of abdominal pain when compared to controls (35.2 vs. 28.8, p = 0.2). PCNs in the distal pancreas experienced a significantly increased prevalence of abdominal pain (42.3 vs. 28.8%, p = 0.04), whereas size and presumed connection with the ductal system did not affect the prevalence of abdominal pain. PCNs associated with abdominal pain did not differ in terms of clinical and radiological features from asymptomatic ones. Conclusion: Patients with PCNs under surveillance have a similar prevalence of abdominal pain when compared to a matched population of controls. Abdominal pain might not correlate with radiological signs of malignancy.

Abstract:
In this work, using photoacoustic Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) we have studied the structural distortion of clay crystal structure in organically modified montmorillonite (OMMT) and polymer clay nanocomposites (PCN). To study the effect of organic modifiers on the distortion of crystal structure of clay, we have synthesized OMMTs and PCNs containing same polymer and clay but with three different organic modifiers (12-aminolauric acid, n-dodecylamine, and 1,12-diaminododecane), and conducted the FTIR study on these PCNs. Our previous molecular dynamics (MD) study on these PCNs reveals that significant nonbonded interactions (van der Waals, electrostatic interactions) exist between the different constituents (polymer, organic modifier, and clay) of nanocomposites. Previous work based on X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) on the same set of PCNs shows that crystallinity of polymer in PCNs have changed significantly in comparison to those in pristine polymer; and, the nonbonded interactions between different constituents of PCN are responsible for the change in crystal structure of polymer in PCN. In this work to evaluate the structural distortion of crystal structure of clay in OMMTs and PCNs, the positions of bands corresponding to different modes of vibration of Si—O bonds are determined from the deconvolution of broad Si—O bands in OMMTs and PCNs obtained from FTIR spectra. Intensity and area under the Si—O bands are indicative of orientation of clay crystal structures in OMMTs and PCNs. Significant changes in the Si—O bands are observed from each vibration mode in OMMTs and PCNs containing three different organic modifiers indicating that organic modifiers influence the structural orientation of silica tetrahedra in OMMTs and PCNs. Deconvolution of Si—O bands in OMMTs indicate a band at ∼1200 cm−1 that is orientation-dependent Si—O band. The specific changes in intensity and area under this band for OMMTs with three different organic modifiers further confirm the change in structural orientation of silica tetrahedra of OMMTs by organic modifiers. Thus, from our work it is evident that organic modifiers have significant influence on the structure of polymer and clay in PCNs. It appears that in nanocomposites, in addition to strong interactions at interfaces between constituents, the structure of different phases (clay and polymer) of PCN are also altered, which does not occur in conventional composite materials. Thus, the mechanisms governing composite action in nanocomposites are quite different from that of conventional macro composites.

This research aims at checking the way literacy is approached on the National Curricular Parameters PCNs (Brazil, MEC/SEF, 2000) and the representations about the work of the teacher in relation to literacy built on this document. This document was chosen as analysis object because we think the work of the teacher is conducted and influenced by prefigurative texts, in which high-ranking staff members show them what to do, and also because the PCNs are regarded as the referencial prefigurative text for the curricular organization of the Educational System in Brazil. Initially, we present the main theoretical discussions about the question of literacy so that we can, afterwards, resort to a wider vision on the work of the teacher, derived from Activity Ergonomy (Amigues, 2002, 2004; Saujat, 2004; Faïta, 2004) and from Clinique de l activité (Clot, 1999), which allowed us to amplify the general theoretical/ methodological framework adopted: the Sociodiscursive Interactionism - ISD (Bronckart, 1997/2003; 2004; 2006), which proposes to develop a Human Science , taking acting as unit of analysis and attributing to language a fundamental role in human functioning and development. The methodological procedures included the interactional social-historical contextualization for the production of PCNs, a survey of their global characteristics, the selection of segments which approach the question of literacy and the analysis of these segments at organizational, enunciative and semantic levels, from the analysis categories supplied by the theoretical-methodological framework itself (ISD), including the procedures recently developed by Machado & Bronckart (2005) and their academic collaborators. The analysis results showed that literacy is represented on the PCNs as a byproduct of a social practice related to reading and writing. However, the term is not recurrent on the PCNs, not being regarded as main topic. For the work with literacy in the classroom there is, in the analysed segments, no attribution of a specific role to the teacher. On the other hand, the question of literacy is taken widely, either associated with the use of language in active comprehension, expression and communication practices, or related to literacy acquisition. The teacher s role in relation to literacy can be inferred when the teaching practice aims and some of the teacher s functions are indicated, but neither the possible different phases of the teacher s work are thematized, nor the way the teacher should develop his/her activities and the procedures to be adopted to reach such aims are made explicit. We conclude, after all, that the teacher is prescribed, predominantly, a cognitive acting, being proposed to adopt a teaching-learning conception considered innovative and more adequate by the PCNs, which is presented as the only possible and true one

Abstract:
Satellites typically communicate with locations on the ground to receive commands and send data back. Establishing reliable communications generally requires dedicated ground stations, which in turn require hardware and expertise. Developers of nano-satellites, however, may not have the expertise or resources necessary for establishing a dedicated ground station. Therefore, the use of an existing communication system, such as the Satellite Personal Communication Networks (S-PCNs), is attractive. Another shortcoming of the fixed ground stations, already available, is that they are normally only able to communicate with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) nano-satellites four times per day (two10-minute windows separated by 90 minutes, followed 12 hours later by two more such 10-minute windows). This drawback is also overcome by the use of S-PCNs which provide increased access times, smaller gaps in contact between the satellites and ground stations, and easier tracking of satellite health. In this thesis, the capabilities of S-PCNs for communications with a nano-satellite are explored. Software simulation and analysis have been performed to assess system performance. Ground testing of the hardware is done to understand the use of such systems for small satellites.

Abstract:
This research work aimed at investigating alleged changes in Portuguese language textbooks following the publication of the PCNs (Brazilian curricular parameters) and the implementation of the PNLD (National Textbook Program) in the mid-1990\'s. The general objectives included analyzing how these manuals have been dealing with text genres, specifically in activities concerning text production, thus helping to improve the quality of textbooks distributed to public school students. Specific objectives included examining the space reserved to and the approach used in argumentative genres pertaining to text production processes currently found in textbooks for 5th and 6th grades, as these materials were better assessed by the PNLD 2005; investigating how these genres have been used in text production proposals with respect to production conditions and textualization strategies (text planning, revision and rewriting); and, of course, checking whether those activities really foster the development of discursive-linguistic and argumentative capabilities. We claim that if changes occurred indeed in mother-tongue teaching-learning processes after discourse genres were established as teaching objectives, as stated in the PCNs, a new attitude also must have emerged in relation to the approach to argumentative genres, specially with respect to an awakening to the need to work with these genres from the beginning of the school experience, since the development of argumentative abilities is an essential tool in facing ideological manipulation. The theoretical-methodological basis for our work can be found in Vygotsky\'s social psychology, especially in what concerns the role of social interaction in cognitive development and in the construction of subjectivities; in studies conducted in the field of textual linguistics; in reflections resulting from discourse analysis, mainly with respect to genre theory, Bakhtin\'s dialogy and polyphony; in research works in psychology and education science conducted by Schneuwly and his collaborators from the Geneva Group (Dolz, Pasquier, and Bronckart) and which aim at developing didactic sequences for the teaching-learning of discourse genres as instruments of communication and social interaction, allowing for a didactic mediation between socio-discursive interactionism theory and language practices; and, lastly, in the modern argumentative theory - or New Rhetoric - introduced by Perelman.

Abstract: This paper aims at studying criteria for complementing English as a foreign language course books in senior high-school curricula. The proposal for complementation of materials is based on multidimensional-discursive principles and uses anthologies of short stories as source of material development. Taking into consideration the directions by the National Curriculum Framework, known as PCNs, we defend that the planning of language courses be based on the understanding of language as discourse. At first we discuss the conceptions of language, discourse, teaching and learning that guide the choice of books and complementary materials, from the point of view of teachers and schools. The research counts on a multidimensional-discursive analysis of some of the books adopted by private schools in the city of São Paulo which reached an evaluation superior to 70% (seventy per cent), according to the National Exam that measures learning results in Brazilian Senior High-schools, known as ENEM. The data used is based on the statistics from the year 2005. It also includes examples of complementation of the referred books based on anthologies of Brazilian and American Short Stories. Finally, we report a case study aiming at teaching development and we discuss some changes in the teacher¿s representations concerning the applicability of multidimensional-discursive approaches in foreign language classes, as well as their resistance to the changing process

Study which aims to examine the relationship between popular religiosity and National Curricular Parameters of Religious Education in confrontation with the pedagogical practice. The first part deals with the emergence of popular religiosity. For that were held in Group research: Religiosities People's Institute of Theology and Pastoral - ITEPA observations of expressions of popular religiosity in different places and these comments were made the logs. The question about what makes human beings seek in any way express their religiosity and the search for transcendence and value to the sacred end this first part. The second part seeks to understand the popular religiosity in an anthropological sense. It addresses the relationship that the human being has with the sacred strongly present in popular religiosity. Since the sacred is a category present in all religions and is mainly in popular religiosity that people express so well the creative, with simplicity without caring about the speeches theological institutions. Therefore if brings two experiences in the classroom to show that the manifestations of popular religiosity are present in the daily school. From the answers found in this part of the work is that the questions arise concerning the beliefs of teachers and students in connection with the knowledge. So it is important to review how the National Curricular Parameters of Religious Education present the theme of popular religiosity. Through an experiment in the classroom noted that there is a tension between belief and knowledge. To try to circumvent this problem is proposed to pedagogy of the question, which comes to show that the most important are not the answers but the questions.

(Grammatical approach in textbooks in Portuguese: Did the National Curricular Parameters promote changes?) aims to discuss grammar teaching in Portuguese language textbooks, seeking to analyze whether the National Curricular Parameters (1998) are followed in the proposal of teaching Portuguese in textbooks. To do this, we describe the document and perform an explanation about the orientation of contents in two axes: use and reflection. We highlight this organization, the practice of linguistic analysis and its discursive activities. Thus, the main interest of this study is to verify if the proposals of the PCNs are followed, thus promoting changes in a prescriptive language teaching. n order to carry out this verification, we directed our analyzes from two textbooks, one of them from1975, a material prior to the document, and the others subsequent to the PCNs and reviewed in the National Textbook Program of 2014. We consider for the analysis, to understand that Portuguese books are discursive genres. To defend this discursive view, we start with Bakhtin's theory and its circle. In addition, we also assume that the book is a support, with the intention of explaining that the texts that enter the didactic materials change of function, being seen through a didactic functionality. We also discuss the conceptions of language, language, grammar, text and teaching assumed by the authors of the textbooks. We try to analyze the books through a discursive look, considering the documentary approach of a qualitative research. Our analysis of the documents was by means of inferences that sought to reflect on the way in which the teaching of grammar is seen in the textbooks of Portuguese. The results presented lead us to believe that there were few changes in grammar teaching after the implementation of PCNs, and a traditional study prevails to the detriment of a reflexive analysis of the language in use.
Desse modo, assumimos a perspectiva dialógica e discursiva dos pressupostos bakhtinianos, destacando alguns conceitos, dentre eles: enunciado, forças centrípeta e centrífuga, discurso e gênero.

Abstract:
Here, we incorporate the results of our new “altered phase theory” (Sikdar et al. 2008a) into design of new polymer clay nanocomposites (PCNs) for bone biomaterials applications. Montmorillonite (MMT) clay was modified using unnatural amino acids as potentially new biocompatible modifiers. The longer carbon chain structures of the unnatural amino acids are expected to enhance non bonded interactions with clay as well as maintaining the usefulness of functional groups of natural amino acids. The specific choice of amino acids is based on both the antibacterial activity reported in literature and also our previous studies on role of chain length, functional groups etc of modifiers in influencing mechanical behavior in PCNs. Biocompatibility studies using cell culture experiments as well as mechanical behavior is evaluated for the PCNs. FTIR spectroscopy is used to compare changes to molecular structure. The increase in d001 spacing of modified clay compared to pure clay obtained from XRD experiments confirms successful intercalation of modifier. The osteoblast cells were found to grow and proliferate over the substrates. The major contribution of this work is the design of novel amino acid biopolymer-clay nanocomposites for biomaterials applications. Porous scaffold structures were also designed and fabricated.

Abstract:
In this study, three kinds of carbon nanofiber sheets were made through a high-pressure filtration system: pure carbon nanofiber, carbon nanofiber with polyhedral oligomeric silsequioxane (PCNS) and carbon nanofiber with Cloisite Na+ clay (CCNS). Then these sheets were incorporated onto the surface of glass fiber reinforced polyester composites through resin transfer molding process. The samples were analyzed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermal gravimetric analyses (TGA). The fire retardant performance of the laminates was evaluated with cone calorimeter test at an external radiated heat flux of 50kw/m2. The results of laminates with PCNS indicated that the fire performance was impaired when comparing with the case of pure carbon nanofiber paper. However, in the case of CCNS, the primary results showed a pronounced improvement of the fire performance was observed. The possible mechanism was also discussed in the present study.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This paper presents a study of thermal management of tablet computers (tablet PCs) using phase change materials (PCMs) encapsulated in aluminized laminated film under continuous operation. The experimental setup consists of original tablet PC parts and a simplified dummy printed circuit board (PCB) with a thermal response similar to the original PCB. Two PCMs were used in the experiments, n-eicosane and PT-37 (a commercial PCM from PureTemp). These PCMs have similar melting temperatures (n-eicosane – 35.6 °C; PT-37 – 36.3 °C) but different latent heats of fusion (n-eicosane – 236 kJ/kg; PT-37 – 206 kJ/kg). Two encapsulations with different sizes (6″ × 2.6″, 7″ × 1.5″) but the same thickness (0.0792″ (2 mm)) were used in this study. The effects of inclination and power input level on the thermal behavior of the tablet were investigated. Experiments showed that PCM encapsulated in laminate film led to lower back cover temperature for constant heat flux applications. As much as a 20 °C temperature reduction of the back cover hotspot was achieved with encapsulated PCM. It was also observed that better thermal behavior was achieved both by the melting of PCMs and heat spreading through the laminate film. It was found that the rate of PCM melting is directly related to the power input. No significant effect on PCM melting and temperature history was observed in relation to the system inclination.
