Cette thèse étudie les possibilités de réduction des interférences électromagnétiques pour les convertisseurs d'électroniques de puissance utilisant des transistors GaN dans trois domaines principaux: la stratégie de contrôle, la conception des circuits imprimés ainsi que l'agencement des composants de puissance et les éléments magnétiques à haute fréquence. Sur la base d'un convertisseur Buck, l’impact de la contribution de la commutation dure et douce sur le bruit conduit généré (mode commun (CM) et mode différentiel (DM)) a été étudiée. L'effet positif de la commutation douce sur la réduction des perturbations CEM dans une gamme de fréquence spécifique a été démontré. L'impact des attributs de la conception de l'agencement a également été observé et la nécessité de l'optimiser a été soulignée. Ensuite, une étude détaillée de l'identification des éléments parasites dans un seul bras d'onduleur est présentée. Des domaines spécifiques de préoccupation ont été détaillés et examinés plus loin dans la thèse. Le flux de travail de simulation développé dans Digital Twin utilisé pour étudier l'impact des éléments de disposition individuels sur la CEM est présenté. Le banc d'essai de laboratoire utilisé pour les mesures CEM est également présenté, ainsi qu'une description des précautions nécessaires. En outre, les deux concepts clés mis en œuvre dans l'agencement - le blindage et le Power-Chip-on-Chip (PCoC) - sont présentés. Leur efficacité dans la réduction des interférences électromagnétiques de près de 20~dB a été confirmée par la simulation et l'expérimentation. Enfin, le concept d'inducteur intégré est présenté, qui peut être mis en œuvre en même temps que les solutions précédentes. L'efficacité d'un inducteur intégré planaire connecté au point central du pont a été démontrée par des études de simulation. La méthode de l'auteur pour identifier l'impédance de l'inducteur intégré et les principaux éléments parasites (en termes de CEM) a également été développée et présentée en détail. En conclusion, ce travail présente une série de solutions qui réduisent de manière significative l'EMI dans les convertisseurs à base de GaN, qui ont été validées par simulation et expérience et qui peuvent être appliquées à tous les types de convertisseurs électroniques de puissance<br>The thesis investigates the possibility of EMI mitigation for power electronic converters with GaN transistors in three key areas: control strategy, layout design, and integrated magnetic filter. Based on a Buck converter, the contribution of hard and soft switching to the generated conducted noise (Common Mode (CM) and Differential Mode (DM)) has been investigated. The positive effect of soft switching on EMI reduction in a specific frequency range was demonstrated. The impact of layout design attributes was also observed and the need to optimize it was highlighted. Next, a detailed study of the identification of parasitic elements in a single inverter leg is presented. Specific areas of concern were detailed and considered later in the thesis. The developed simulation workflow in Digital Twin used to study the impact of individual layout elements on EMC is presented. The laboratory test bench used for EMC measurements is also presented, together with a description of the necessary experimental precautions. Furthermore, the two key concepts implemented in the layout - shielding and Power-Chip-on-Chip (PCoC) - are presented. Their effectiveness in reducing EMI by almost 20~dB was confirmed by simulation and experiment. Finally, the Integrated Inductor concept is presented, which can be implemented together with the previous solutions. The effectiveness of a planar Integrated Inductor connected to the middle point of the bridge was demonstrated by simulation studies. The author's method for identifying the impedance of the Integrated Inductor and the key parasitic elements (in terms of EMC) has also been developed and presented in details. In conclusion, the work presents a series of solutions that significantly reduce EMI in GaN-based converters, which have been validated by simulation and experiment and can be applied to all types of power electronic converters

Abstract
The prevalence of the isolated ultrasonographic finding of polycystic
ovaries (PCO) in the Finnish population and among women with a history of
gestational diabetes (GDM) and changes in the present carbohydrate metabolism
were investigated in the present study. One aim of this study was to investigate
the prevalence of the recently discovered variant type LH (v-LH) in PCOS and to
compare patient cohorts from Finland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the
United States of America. In addition, this study attempted to evaluate the
nature of the ovarian streoidogenic response of women with PCOS to exogenously
administered human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG), human menotrophin (hMG) and
follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). The effect of metformin on ovarian
steroidogenesis was also studied.
The prevalence of PCO was significantly higher in younger (≤ 35
years, 21.6%) than among older women (in ≥ 36 years, 7.8%). The overall
prevalence of PCO
in Finnish women was 14.2%. Women with previous GDM revealed a high prevalence of
PCO (39.4%). The carrier frequency of the v-LHb allele in the entire study
population was 18.5%. The frequency of the v-LH carrier was significantly lower
in obese PCOS subjects in the Netherlands (2.0%) and Finland (4.5%). Women with
previous GDM had impaired insulin sensitivity and β-cell function. They also
had
higher adrenal androgen secretion than the control women. Women with PCO and
previous GDM had marked hyperinsulinemia which was not explained by obesity.
Obese PCOS women achieved peak peripheral serum T concentrations at 48 hours
after a hCG injection, preceded by peak levels of 17-OHP and E2 at 24 hours. In
contrast, all steroids measured in the control women reached their maximum serum
concentrations at 96 hours. HMG stimulated the production of ovarian androgens
more efficiently than a urinary FSH after pituitary suppression with a
gonadotrophin releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa).
In conclusion, the prevalence of PCO is common in healthy Finnish women and
even more common in women with a history of GDM. The ultrasonographic appearance
of PCO may be a predictive factor with regards abnormal glucose tolerance during
and after pregnancy and, these women should therefore be advised as to possible
consequences. The high overall frequency of the v-LH allele in women in general
and its low frequency in obese PCOS patients suggests that v-LH plays a role in
reproductive functions and may counteract the pathogenesis of PCOS in obese
individuals. The differences observed in steroid responses to hCG between normal
and PCOS women might be explained by higher theca cell activity or mass in
polycystic ovaries. Women with PCOS did not show a distinctly exaggerated
steroidogenic response to hMG or FSH administration compared with control women.
FSH administration also resulted in increased A and T production.

Polycystisktovarialsyndrom (PCOS) förekommer hos 5-10% av alla kvinnor och är den vanligaste orsaken till anovulatorisk infertilitet. Andra delar av syndromet är hyperandrogena och metabola symtom. Infertilitet behandlas med klomifencitrat. Akne och hirsutism behandlas i första hand med kombinerade p-piller med östrogenprofil. Förhöjda blodsockernivåer, hypertoni, dyslipidemi och övriga komplikationer till syndromet behandlas farmakologiskt vid behov. Hyperandrogenism och insulinresistens tycks spela en huvudroll i uppkomsten av sjukdomen. Då metformin förbättrar insulinkänsligheten, och tros kunna påverka patofysiologin, har det föreslagits som en alternativ förstahandsbehandling. Denna litteraturstudie syftade till att undersöka vilket vetenskapligt underlag som finns för att ändra behandlingsrekommendationerna vid PCOS. De studier som jämfört resultatet av metformin och klomifencitrat vid anovulatorisk infertilitet visar att klomifencitrat mer effektivt framkallar ovulation och graviditet hos kvinnor med PCOS och övervikt, men att metformin är lika effektivt hos normalviktiga kvinnor. Medan metforminbehandling är en välbeprövad och säker behandling med få biverkningar har klomifencitrat allvarliga biverkningar i form av risk för flerbörd och ovarialthyperstimuleringssyndrom. De få studier som undersökt metformins påverkan på fostret finner inga belägg för teratogena effekter. Metformin har positiva effekter på hyperandrogena symtom vid PCOS, och man har inte kunnat se någon signifikant skillnad i effekt mellan metformin och p-piller då det gäller att minska akne och hirsutism. Dessutom finns det belägg för att metformin kan ha en positiv påverkan på BMI och blodtryck, förbättra lipidprofilen genom att sänka nivåerna av LDL kolesterol, samt minskar risken hos denna patientgrupp att utveckla typ 2 diabetes. Sammantaget kan dock sägas att det vetenskapliga underlaget ännu är för svagt för att man ska ändra den rådande behandlingsrekommendationen. Det finns behov av större, blindade studier där man jämför metforminbehandling med klomifencitrat och tittar på en kombination av faktorer och utfall kopplade till symtombilden vid PCOS.

Aim: To describe the lived experience of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Method: Eight scientific articles of appropriate quality were found, analyzed, condensed and synthesized. Different experiences by women with PCOS were found and ordered into themes. The findings were then anchored in associated literature and discussed. Results: Four different themes were found: Feeling different; Disturbing symptoms; Searching for answers; Care treatment. Each of these themes offered areas of improvement in regard to nursing care. Conclusions: Extra attention to the psychosocial aspects of health for women with PCOS should be taken to improve nursing care. The exchange of information between nursing staff and patients needs to be better adapted to the individual informational needs of women with PCOS.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a female endocrine disorder defined by high androgen levels and presence of polycystic ovaries. PCOS is characterized by menstrual irregularities, anovulation, infertility, hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance, abdominal obesity, chronic inflammation and increased hair growth. The diagnosis is based on 2003/2004 Rotterdam criteria, which is based on the presence of the following phenotypes: anovulation, clinical and biochemical marks of hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovarian morphology. Theoretical causes could be genetical, environmental or maternal imprinting. Drosophila Melanogaster, a model used broadly in disease research, could bear promising insights to this syndrome. Besides having a lifecycle characterized by a 12 days metamorphism, these species of flies have the ecdysone (steroid) hormone, similar to the human testosterone and the body systems similar to those of the human body. This laboratory work involved the development of a PCOS-like drosophila fly model through exposure to 10mg/ml of testosterone after 24 hours of starvation. Data collection comprised measurements of weight and length, anovulation, triglyceride quantification and RT-qPCR for quantification of inflammatory and PCOS-related genes. Results showed significant differences in response to physical stress among the four groups of flies. Variation in weight and length values, as well as in fecundity, triglyceride assay and relative expression levels were also observed. Although the expression levels of inflammatory and PCOS- related genes were not significantly affected, homeostasis was clearly affected by metabolic disturbances. These observations lead to the conclusion that further experiments should be done in order to establish a more comprehensive definition of the syndrome.

ferramenta, se usada adequadamente, pode acelerar o trabalho a ser desenvolvido. Uma
avaliação descuidada acarreta uma perda de tempo e energia, levando ocasionalmente a
decisões diagnósticas inadequadas e a um planeamento de intervenção ineficiente
(Mota, 2001).
Este estudo tem como objetivo geral analisar o PCC (percentagem de consoantes
corretas) em crianças dos 3 aos 5 anos de idade. Também é objetivo desta investigação
verificar se existe uma correlação entre: 1) PCC e idade; 2) PCC e sexo; 3) PCC e
escolaridade mais elevada dos pais. Para este efeito, foram avaliadas 34 crianças com
idades compreendidas entre os 3 e os 5 anos de idade, pertencentes ao concelho de
Felgueiras e Amarante. A amostra foi dividida em três grupos: G1) crianças com 3 anos
(n=12); G2) crianças com 4 anos (n=9); G3) crianças com 5 anos (n=13).
Para recolha dos dados da avaliação foi utilizado o Teste de Articulação CPUP: Sons
em Palavras, para analisar a fala das crianças. Para realizar a avaliação fonológica, foi
usada a avaliação proposta pelos autores Yavas, Hernandorena & Lamprecht (2002),
que foi criado com o objetivo de eliciar a amostra mais representativa da fala da criança
através da nomeação espontânea. Para o cálculo do PCC são considerados como erros as
omissões, substituições e distorções.
Os resultados obtidos neste estudo mostram que apenas a idade influencia os valores do
PCC, enquanto o sexo e a escolaridade mais elevada dos pais não apresenta uma
correlação positiva nem estatisticamente significativa. Desta forma, conclui-se que
quanto mais idade têm as crianças maior é o seu PCC. Evaluation is one of the main tools of the speech therapist. Like any tool, if used
properly, can accelerate the work to be done. A careless assessment entails a waste of
time and energy, occasionally leading to inadequate diagnostic decisions and inefficient
planning intervention (Mota, 2001).
This study aims at analyzing the PCC (percentage of consonants correct) in children
from 3 to 5 years old. Another objective of this research is whether there is a correlation
between: 1) PCC and age, 2) PCC and sex; 3) PCC and higher parents schooling. For
this purpose, we evaluated 34 children aged between 3 to 5 years of age, belonging to
the municipality of Felgueiras and Amarante. The sample was divided into three groups:
G1) children with 3 years old (n = 12), G2) children with 4 years old (n = 9); G3)
children with 5 years old (n = 13).
To collect the data evaluation test was used the Articulation CPUP: Sounds in Words, to
analyze the speech of children. To perform the phonological evaluation, was used the
evaluation proposed by the authors Yavas, Hernandorena & Lamprecht (2002), which
was created with the goal of eliciting a more representative sample of child speech
through spontaneous naming. To calculate the PCC are considered as errors the
omissions, substitutions and distortions.
The results of this study show that only age influences the values of the PCC, whereas
sex and higher parents schooling do not show a positive correlation nor statistically
significant. Thus, it is concluded that the older they are, the higher is their PCC.

The thesis aims to describe developments in the uses of planktonic foraminiferal calcite for oceanographic applications, specifically Mg/Ca ratios and foraminiferal shell weights as proxies for calcification temperature and paleo-<i>p</i>CO<sub>2</sub> respectively. Sample preparation for the analysis of Mg/Ca and Sr/Ca ratios in foraminiferal calcite is investigated with the aim of defining a method that will give reproducible results and minimise signal contaminations. Each step of the cleaning procedure is scrutinised in order to gauge which are most important and which may be omitted as unnecessary and potentially detrimental to the elemental measurements being made. Success in the application of Mg/Ca-thermometry depends on the ability to quantify and compensate for any alteration of the primary signal after deposition. Compositional variations in foraminiferal calcite may be associated with partial dissolution at the seaflow. Investigation is made into the excessive scatter observed within a latitudinal transect of core-top Mg/Ca and Sr/Ca ratios and attributed to partial dissolution. Possible means of correcting or minimising the effects of such alteration are investigated and assessed. Recent interest in planktonic foraminiferal shell weight loss as a proxy for dissolution, and as such a potential means of quantifying compositional variability, demands investigation into the possibility that initial shell weight may not be constant. It is demonstrated that considerable variability does occur in the shell weights of several species of planktonic foraminifera in the modern surface ocean. It is proposed that initial shell weight is a function of calcification rate and controlled ultimately by the carbonate ion concentration, [CO<sub>3</sub><sup>=</sup>], of ambient seawater during calcification. A first attempt is made to calibrate the effects of [CO<sub>3</sub><sup>=</sup>] on shell weight in the modern ocean. The potential effects of anthropogenic atmospheric CO<sub>2</sub> increases on marine calcification are then synthesised using the mineral relations between [CO<sub>3</sub><sup>=</sup>] and calcification rate.

The Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC), created in 1992 under the auspices of the Library of Congress (LC), provides bibliographic and authority records intended to meet the cataloging needs of all libraries. The number of institutions participating in the BIBCO or Bibliographic Cooperative component of the PCC remains limited to 46 institutions. The PCC introduced a bibliographic record standard, the core level record, which emphasized a dependable description with full authority control, while providing timely access.
Time savings and efficiency have been results observed for PCC libraries creating core level records. The PCC libraries are thus able to devote more resources to cataloging difficult foreign language or esoteric material often needed by library users but previously unavailable and unknown because it was in the cataloging arrearage or backlog. However, no studies examined whether non-PCC libraries accepted PCC records as readily as they accepted LC cataloging records in the OCLC Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) database. This study analyzed the acceptability of PCC records by examining how 72 various academic, public, and special libraries edited them during a two-month study period.
Findings pointed to the participants' inability to identify PCC records correctly. There was also some indication that editing of notes and non-access point fields in bibliographic records continue to be a priority for some institutions. The most frequent significant change to the PCC records was the addition of Dewey decimal classification (DDC) numbers by public library participants and the addition of LC classification numbers for academic and special library participants. This modification was observed as the main difference between LC and PCC records. Overall, 65.3% of PCC records were used with no editing changes and 97.4% of MARC fields examined were not edited. Results revealed a correlation between the absence of a needed classification number and personnel level handling copy cataloging.
An analysis of editing changes in full versus core PCC records was presented. Recommendations for library administrators, cataloging managers, OCLC, and the PCC Policy Operations Committee concerning authority verification, classification number verification, PCC record identification and cataloging record source field, and monitoring copy cataloging work to promote efficiency were provided.

Most SCADA devices have a few built-in self-defence mechanisms and tend to implicitly trust communications received over the network. Therefore, monitoring and forensic analysis of network traffic is a critical prerequisite for building an effective defense around SCADA units. In this thesis work, We provide a comprehensive forensic analysis of network traffic generated by the PCCC(Programmable Controller Communication Commands) protocol and present a prototype tool capable of extracting both updates to programmable logic and crucial configuration information. The results of our analysis shows that more than 30 files are transferred to/from the PLC when downloading/uplloading a ladder logic program using RSLogix programming software including configuration and data files. Interestingly, when RSLogix compiles a ladder-logic program, it does not create any lo-level representation of a ladder-logic file. However the low-level ladder logic is present and can be extracted from the network traffic log using our prototype tool. the tool extracts SMTP configuration from the network log and parses it to obtain email addresses, username and password. The network log contains password in plain text.

To meet the growing demand for community-based adult services (CBAS) adult day health care (ADHC) programs, it is important these programs make the necessary modifications in their systems of care to embrace a person-centered care (PCC) model. This study was designed to create an assessment to determine a community-based CBAS/ADHC program's readiness to meet the new federal standards as determined by the program's current operational evidence and by center participants', their families' as well as staff's perspectives. This was measured by self-report of access to the community, choice of setting, individual rights, autonomy and independence, choice of services and supports, center accessibility as well as their needs and preferences in the practice. Results will assist similar CBAS/ADHCs in identifying the necessary modifications within their own program to continue as a certified licensed entity and remain a viable agency.

O presente trabalho visa compreender o processo de expansão e consolidação do Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) no sistema prisional paulista e a figuração social que se constituiu nas prisões como resultado da monopolização das oportunidades de poder pelo PCC. Para tanto, conceitos e concepções teóricas de Norbert Elias são utilizados como ferramentas analíticas para o tratamento do material empírico colhido a partir de fontes diversas. O trabalho é composto por dois eixos de análise: eixo horizontal/processual e eixo vertical/figuracional. O eixo de análise horizontal ou processual aborda o fenômeno de um ponto de vista macrossociológico, em que se focaliza o processo social de desenvolvimento do PCC tendo em vista fatores sociais, políticos e administrativos que direta ou indiretamente estão atrelados a ele. Ainda como parte desse eixo de análise, o processo de expansão do PCC é considerado em termos das várias etapas que o compõem, tendo em vista o papel da violência física direta no exercício do seu poder. O eixo de análise vertical ou figuracional tem como objetivo a compreensão da dinâmica social produzida a partir deste processo. Considerando uma figuração social como ponto de partida da análise, denominada figuração pré-PCC, procurou-se apresentar as transformações ocorridas no universo prisional e que constituíram uma nova figuração social. A nova figuração social produzida a partir da hegemonia do PCC é constituída por uma teia de interdependência individual mais longa e complexa, com uma maior divisão funcional e integração social entre os seus componentes. Diante desta nova forma de dependência, os controles sociais sobre o comportamento individual foram ampliados e centralizados na posição ocupada pelo PCC. A estrutura e organização do PCC, sua dinâmica política e o controle social que adquire a forma de imposição do autocontrole individual, são questões centrais nesta parte do trabalho. O eixo vertical é finalizado com uma discussão sobre a relação de dependência do PCC em face da administração prisional, em que o dispositivo do Regime Disciplinar Diferenciado (RDD) é central na manutenção do equilíbrio de poder que garante a hegemonia do PCC e a estabilidade da ordem social do universo prisional. Uma reflexão que perpassa todo o trabalho e que é desenvolvida no capítulo final coloca em discussão a pacificação social que é vista como o efeito mais expressivo do processo de consolidação do poder do PCC. Neste sentido, a fragilidade deste processo é apontada a partir da sua natureza conjuntural e das bases precárias nas quais está apoiado o poder hegemônico do PCC.<br>The present work aims to understand the process of expansion and consolidation of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) in São Paulo prison system and the social figuration that is formed in prisons as a result of the monopolization of the opportunities by the power of PCC. To this end, concepts and theoretical conceptions of Norbert Elias are used as analytical tools for the treatment of empirical data collected from various sources. The work consists of two lines of analysis: axis horizontal / vertical axis and procedural / figurational. The horizontal axis analytical or procedural approaches the phenomenon from a macrosociological point of view, which focuses on the social development of the PCC with a view to social, political and administrative problems that are directly or indirectly linked to it. Also as part of the analysis area, the expansion of the PCC is considered in terms of several steps that compose it, owing to the role of direct physical violence in the exercise of its power. The vertical axis or figurational analysis aims at understanding the social dynamics produced from this process. Whereas a social figuration as a starting point of analysis, called figuration \"pre- PCC\", tried to show the changes in the prison world, which constituted a new social figuration. The new social representation produced from the hegemony of the PCC consists of a web of a longer and more complex individual interdependence, with greater functional division and social integration among its components. Given this new form of dependency, the social controls on individual behavior have been expanded and centralized in the position occupied by the PCC. The structure and organization of the PCC, its political dynamics and social control which takes the form of imposition of individual self-control are central issues in this part of the work. The vertical axis is concluded with a discussion of the dependence of the PCC in the face of the prison administration, where the device Regime Disciplinar Diferenciado (RDD) is central in maintaining the balance of power that ensures the hegemony of the PCC and the stability of the order social of the prison. A reflection that permeates all the work that is developed in the final chapter calls into question the social pacification that is seen as the most significant effect of the consolidation of power of the PCC. In this sense, the fragility of this process is identified from its contextual nature and the precarious foundations on which rests the hegemonic power of the PCC.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine system disorder that affects women of reproductive age. If not treated properly, PCOS can lead to infertility. Lack of proper treatment of PCOS may also result in medical complications such as diabetes or heart disease. The rural clinic where this project took place did not have a mandatory guideline for treatment of PCOS; therefore, no standardized method of diagnosis or treatment of PCOS existed. The purpose of this project, guided by the IOWA evidence-based practice model, was to educate providers on the evidence-based guideline for diagnosis and treatment of PCOS outlined by the Endocrine Society Taskforce. The guideline was selected after a comprehensive literature review and was used to develop an educational program that was provided to 5 nurse practitioners, the medical director and staff. A pre-test post-test design was used to determine if the participants understood the content from the guideline that was presented. Results showed that the researcher-developed test administered to participants yielded scores of 74 on the pre-test and increased after the education program with all participants scoring 100 on the post-test. The guideline used for the education was then presented to the clinic for implementation with the assistance of the medical director's support. The project provided an evidence-based guideline for diagnosing and treating PCOS and raised awareness of PCOS among all staff in a rural clinic where many patients with PCOS are treated. Positive social change may result as providers are better prepared to deliver evidence-based care for PCOS and as infertility and complications of untreated PCOS are reduced.

Des résultats croisés d’études biogéochimiques de cultures in vivo et de modélisations cellulaires ont mis en évidence un lien entre le fractionnement biologique des coccolithes et la concentration en CO2 du milieu de vie de leurs producteurs, les coccolithophoridés. Ces résultats ont ouvert la voie à l’utilisation des effets vitaux des coccolithes comme proxy du CO2 dans le milieu. Toutefois, des biais affectent l’application des calibrations empiriques de culture à des populations naturelles de coccolithes. Ainsi, ce travail cherche à formaliser la fonction de transfert entre les effets vitaux et les [CO2aq] en milieu naturel, qui puisse être appliquée pour reconstruire les pCO2 passées. Nous utilisons pour cela les enregistrements provenant des carottes de glace antarctiques pour quantifier le forçage de la pCO2 sur l’intensité des effets vitaux des coccolithes. Nous mettons notamment en évidence, et discutons, un contrôle des concentrations en CO2 sur la différence isotopique (Δδ18O, Δδ13C) entre coccolithes de différentes tailles produits pendant la pénultième terminaison glaciaire (130-140 ka). Dans un deuxième volet de la thèse, nous appliquons cette fonction de transfert à des coccolithes datant de la transition mi-Pléistocène (800-1250 ka), une période clé de changement climatique, pour laquelle les pCO2 ne sont pas documentées. Nous obtenons un enregistrement de pCO2 avec des amplitudes et des variations cohérentes couvrant l’intégralité de la transition, ce qui accrédite la calibration proposée. Nos travaux permettent d’étayer l’hypothèse d’une sensibilité accrue des calottes glaciaires au forçage radiatif par le CO2 depuis la MPT<br>Results from both in vivo cultures and cell modelling biogeochemical studies have demonstrated a link between the biological fractionation of coccoliths and the CO2 concentration of the living environment of their producers, the coccolithophores. These results have encouraged the use of coccolith vital effects as proxies for the levels of CO2 in the medium. However, a number of biases hinder the application of the empirical calibrations from culture experiments to natural coccolith populations. This work aims at formalizing the transfer function linking the vital effects to the [CO2aq] in natural environments, to be used for the reconstruction of past pCO2. To this end, we use the records from Antarctic ice cores to quantify the forcing of pCO2 on the magnitude of the coccoliths’ vital effects. We evidence, and discuss, a control of CO2 concentrations on the isotopic difference (Δδ18O, Δδ13C) between coccoliths of different sizes produced during the penultimate glacial termination (130-140 ka). The second part of this thesis is dedicated to applying the transfer function to coccoliths from the Mid-Pleistocene Transition (800-1250 ka), a key period of climate change for which pCO2 variations are not documented. The pCO2 record we obtain, which covers the entire transition, exhibits self-consistent amplitudes and variations, thus giving credit to the calibration we present. The integration of concentrated solar thermal technology with PCC-retrofitted power plants has the potential to recover the power plant penalty while capturing carbon through the PCC plant. The main contribution of this thesis is showcasing such synergy between solar and PCC-retrofitted power plants through development of a model investigating the solar plant dynamic behaviour and response to external disturbances including climatic changes for the Australian context. Firstly, the potential of solar thermal and/or power energy to compensate for both PCC penalties is investigated. The mode of integrated solar energy with the PCC-retrofitted power plant and the integration point in the superstructure, result in a number of possible configurations among which, three are shown to have a higher potential to meet the operational objective, maintaining the original output rate while PCC is operating. The basic sizing data, a preliminary size of each configuration, operational capability and complexity level involved in the integration of each configuration are established. A limitation was faced in assessing the performance of each option using levelised cost of energy due to the lack of a dynamic profile of high-pressure side feed water preheaters of the PCC-retrofitted power plant. Additionally, a dynamic study on the superstructure was required using the annual dynamic profile of PCC load requirements, carbon price and power demand. Despite these, this work has shown near optimal values for solar multiple and number of full load hours of thermal storage for each configuration. These results are used to select one option for a dynamic model. A comprehensive dynamic study is performed on Option 2 using TRNSYS modelling package. The main operating and control schemes are identified and details of the modelling are provided followed by an analysis of performance results and conclusion and a note for future directions.

This report describes the activities performed by the Corps of Sanitary Inspection of
Lota de Peniche accompanied during the traineeship, realized from the 1st of March
until 30th June 2013. thus, the first part of this report is distinguished by the author
assisted tasks, which consist in sanitary evaluation of the fishery products in the fish
auctions markets of Peniche and Nazareth, the issuance of health certificates for
exported food and various declarations, the coordination of the Rapid Alert System of
Food and Feed (RASFF), official controls performed to vessels of primary production
and establishments related to various national control plans. The second part is a study
on the analysis of the causes of rejection of fish in these auctions demonstrating that
Lota de Peniche has a greater total quantity of fish rejected (345.2 kg) and has
highlighted the main cause as the reason "Alteration".

O presente trabalho, baseado em pesquisa etnográfica desenvolvida em uma instituição de controle social, a Fundação Centro de Atendimento Socioeducativo ao Adolescente (Fundação CASA), debruça-se sobre o deslocamento do universo institucional ao longo do tempo, tendo como ponto de partida a criação da Fundação Nacional do Bem-Estar do Menor (FUNABEM), em pleno contexto de ditadura militar. Trata-se de etnografar o movimento ininterrupto da instituição, isto é, de vê-la a partir de uma perspectiva processual, atentando para as figurações sociais que emergem das relações estabelecidas entre os atores que circulam pelas distintas unidades de medida socioeducativa de internação. Tendo como base a reconstituição de três trajetórias, procura-se desvelar a dinâmica de funcionamento dos distintos espaços institucionais, iluminando as tensões que os caracterizam, bem como os incessantes embates travados entre os atores sociais que se movimentam em tal contexto. Se em um primeiro momento, nos defrontamos com os antigos espaços de internação, caracterizados, entre outros traços, pelas acentuadas disparidades de força entre os adolescentes e os funcionários, com o reordenamento do universo institucional, veremos que em algumas Unidades de Internação, conhecidas como cadeias dominadas, os internos tornam-se os principais responsáveis pela gestão da operação cotidiana de tais unidades. Espaços institucionais em que os adolescentes orientam as suas ações de acordo com os preceitos do Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), que, vale notar, também operam no sistema prisional, bem como nas periferias de São Paulo, o que torna evidente que tais territórios, ainda que hajam particularidades, encontram-se conectados, isto é, na mesma sintonia.<br>The present study is based on an etnographic research developed in a Social Control Institution known as Fundação Centro de Atendimento Socioeducativo ao Adolescente (Fundação CASA). It focuses on the shift in the institutional universe over time, considering the building of the Fundação Nacional do Bem-Estar do Menor (FUNABEM), amid the Military Dictatorship, its starting point. The ethnography aims to register the constant displacement in the institution, in other words, it looks at this movement from a process-like perspective, taking into account the social figurations that emerge from the relationship established among the social actors who roam through the social and educational measures at the Juvenile Detention Units. Based on the reconstitution of three trajectories, it seeks to reveal the dynamic and functioning of these distinct institutional spaces, bringing into the light the tensions which characterize them, as well as the unceasing disputes among the social actors who move in such context. If, at first, we are faced with the same old detention places characterized, among other features, by the wide contrast of power between teenagers and staff, leading to a rearrangement in the institutional universe, we also perceive that in some of those Juvenile Detention Units, known as cadeias dominadas, the inmates have become primarily responsible for managing the Units everyday operation. Institutional places where these teenagers guide their actions according to the rules of PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital), which also operates in the jail system, as well as in the outskirts of São Paulo. This shows that those areas, although different and with their own specificities, are connected. In other words, they are on the same wavelength.

<p> Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a metabolic and endocrine disorder that is the most common cause of infertility. PCOS can manifest itself as a long and short term disability and is characterized by insulin resistance (IR), hyperandrogenism, anovulation, hyperinsulinaemia and polycystic ovaries. Our lack of understanding of this disorder and its long term effects has complicated the treatment of the disorder; yet, it is clear that PCOS involves the intricate interaction between genetics, environments and behaviors. To study this disease, scientists have used various animal models. Since the <i> Drosophila</i> model for PCOS has only been postulated,in this work, we determined whether starvation along with the addition of steroid hormones would induce a PCOS-like disorder in <i>D. melanogaster</i> after 24 hour exposure. </p><p> In women with PCOS, testosterone levels and the expression of the androgen receptor are elevated. In fruit flies, ecdysone (E) and its “active” form, 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E), are homologous to the human testosterone and 20-hydroxytestosterone, respectively. This hormone is required for circadian cycles, molting, and maturation in insects. More specifically, this hormone is also located in ovarian tissue and aids in follicular development. The receptor for ecdysone is the ecdysone receptor (EcR). In this work, we examined the expression of the ecdysone receptor (EcR) upon starvation for up to 24 hours by immunofluorescence microcopy. Using qRT-PCR, we determined the levels of expression of genes usually associated with inflammation. Ovarian dysfunction was examined by measuring the fecundity of the females. Starvation increases the expression of the EcR and pro-inflammatory gene expression and decreases fecundity, suggesting that <i>Drosophila melanogaster</i> is a potentially useful model organism in the study of PCOS.</p>

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative contributions of previously identified Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) manifestations (infertility, hirsutism, obesity, menstrual problems) to multiple psychological symptoms. Participants were 126 female endocrinology patient volunteers diagnosed with PCOS who completed a cross-sectional study of PCOS manifestations and psychological symptoms. Participants had significantly elevated scores on nine subscales of psychological symptoms. Menstrual problems were significantly associated with all symptom subscales as well as the global indicator, while hirsutism and obesity were significantly related to five or more subscales. After controlling for demographic factors, menstrual problems were the strongest predictor of psychological symptoms. Findings suggest features of excess body hair, obesity, and menstrual abnormalities carry unique risks for adverse psychologic symptoms, but menstrual problems may be the most salient of these features and deserve particular attention as a marker for psychological risk among women with PCOS.

Ce travail de thèse s'inscrit dans le cadre du développement des piles à combustible à céramique conductrice protonique (PCFC) anode support, opérant dans le domaine de température 400 – 600 °C. Une attention particulière a été portée sur la diminution des températures d'élaboration des composants constituants les piles. Les stratégies mises en œuvre pour l'élaboration des anodes et des couches minces électrolytiques à basse température ont été la nano-structuration et l'ajout d'additifs aidant au frittage. La réalisation de couche mince électrolytique a fait l'objet d‘un développement par pulvérisation de suspensions. Le choix des matériaux et leur optimisation ont permis de minimiser les résistances spécifiques surfaciques (ASR). Les tests en pile de cellules élémentaires PCFC ont montré des résultats prometteurs concurrentiels aux autres types de pile à combustible de l'ordre de 400mW/cm²<br>The aim of present work was to develop PCFC materials and fuel cells working in 400-600°C. The work deals with the optimization of materials and elaboration processes with the aim of decreasing the sintering temperature. In order to achieve high performances, nanostructured and architecture electrodes and optimized electrolytes have been investigated. Efficient anode support PCFCs were fabricated using wet powder spraying whiten simply method easily suitable on order to scaling-up. La protection de la grotte ornée de Cussac, inventée en 2000, se base en partie sur la compréhensionde ses relations avec le massif karstique et des conditions d’écoulement dans la zone non saturée deseaux liées à la cavité.Nous bénéficions à Cussac d’un accès à plusieurs écoulements provenant de différentes parties de laZone Non Saturée (ZNS) et d’une petite zone saturée ainsi que de la présence d’une grotte interceptantdes écoulements à l’intérieur du massif. Les paramètres aérologiques de la cavité dont la pressionpartielle de CO2 (pCO2) et la température ont fait l’objet d’un suivi depuis 2003 pour élaborer unmodèle simple de ses relations avec l’atmosphère extérieure et l’atmosphère de la ZNS.Une première partie de l’étude est consacrée à la caractérisation des écoulements par le suivihydrochimique et hydrodynamique depuis 2008. Elle aboutit à un schéma général du fonctionnementdu système karstique perché de Cussac.Au-delà de l’utilisation des outils classiques pour l’étude des aquifères karstiques nous avons souhaitéétudier les écoulements hydrologique et aérologique à travers l’une des spécificités du systèmekarstique : l’interdépendance des phases gazeuse, liquide et solide.Les échanges entre la roche, l’eau et la pCO2 de l’air de la ZNS ont été estimés à partir de l’utilisationdes équations d’équilibre calco-carboniques. Un obstacle majeur à la caractérisation des paléoclimats en période de type « greenhouse » tient à la mauvaise préservation des archives sédimentaires et à des limites dans les calibrations des marqueurs géochimiques utilisés. Ces limitations entrainent de grandes incertitudes sur les valeurs et la répartition des températures des eaux de surface (SSTs) et des concentrations en CO2 atmosphérique. Les mécanismes qui ont fait basculer le système Terre d’un régime de type greenhouse à icehouse au cours du Paléogène restent donc encore mal contraints. Dans cette thèse, l’évolution thermique de l'océan superficiel et les pCO2 atmosphériques au cours du Paléogène ont étés estimées à partir du signal isotopique (δ18O et ∆13C) des exosquelettes carbonatés des coccolithophoridés : les coccolithes. Les données montrent un refroidissement global des SSTs de l’Eocène inférieur à moyen. A l’Eocène supérieur et au travers de la transition Eocène-Oligocène, les pCO2 diminuent et le refroidissement des hautes latitudes se poursuit, induisant la mise en glace de l’Antarctique, tandis que la ceinture tropicale se réchauffe. Ce bouleversement dans la répartition des flux de chaleur à la surface de la Terre est synchrone de la mise en place d’un courant circumpolaire antarctique plus vigoureux. Ces résultats mettent donc en évidence le rôle moteur des changements de circulations océaniques dans la dynamique climatique de cette transition. These obstacles lead to great uncertainties on the values and distribution of sea surface temperatures (SSTs) and atmospheric CO2 concentrations. Therefore, the mechanisms that brought the Earth’s system from a “greenhouse” to an “icehouse” regime throughout the Paleogene are not well constrained. In this thesis, we reconstructed the thermal evolution of the superficial ocean and the evolution of atmospheric pCO2 during the Paleogene from the isotopic signal (δ18O and ∆13C) of the fossilized carbonate exoskeleton of coccolithophores: coccoliths. Our data reveal a global cooling of surface waters from the Early to the Middle Eocene. During the Late Eocene and across the Eocene-Oligocene transition, values for pCO2 decrease, and cooling at high latitudes continues, allowing for the set up of an ice sheet in Antarctic, while the tropical belt warms. This change in the distribution of heat fluxes at the Earth’s surface during this period is synchronous to the deepening of the Drake Passage and to the set up of a vigorous Antarctic Circumpolar Current. These results thus highlight the driving role of changing oceanic circulations for climate dynamics during this transition. This thesis also proves the existence of important latitudinal thermal gradients throughout the Paleogene. The hypothesis of a homogeneous distribution of SSTs between the Equator and the poles, which prevails in the literature but remains hard to modelise, can thus be rejected

<p>Syftet med studien var att undersöka relationer mellan faktorer som motiverar elever till att delta i idrottslektioner i skolan. Dessutom studerades skillnad på motivationsfaktorer till idrottsundervisningen mellan flickor och pojkar, samt mellan elever i årskurs 7 och årskurs 9. Instrumenten som användes var TEOSQ, PCSC och SIMS. Studien genomfördes på två olika högstadieskolor på elever i årskurs 7 och 9. Totalt deltog 85 elever i studien. Resultatet visade ett positivt samband mellan resultatorienterad motivation, identifierad reglering och med positiv syn på förmågan. Vidare uppvisades ett positivt samband mellan positiv syn på förmågan, inre motivation och uppgiftsorienterad motivation. Yttre motivation var negativt relaterat med negativ syn på förmågan och positivt relaterat med amotivation. Resultatet visade även att pojkar var mer inre motiverade än flickor. Elever i årskurs 7 var mer inre motiverade och mer amotiverade än elever i årskurs 9. Vidare diskuteras det hur idrottsundervisning bäst skall vara upplagd för att få eleverna bäst motiverade framförallt jämställt mellan könen.</p>

Beard the Bully is an extract of a literary memoir about female facial hair. This work explores the decision to grow instead of remove facial hair, in opposition to social norms about gender. It also traces the development of a non-binary gender identity as a way to accommodate this highly visible form of marginal sex variance. This extract looks at how engagement in sex and gender diverse political activism, immersion in the culture of Sydney’s queer community, the experience of stigma and harassment, and conflict with family of origin challenges the narrator to develop a narrative of female facial hair that is unique to them. Female facial hair has not previously been explored in literary memoir, and very little academic work exists, either by or about females with facial hair. A desire for a deeper investigation of gender in narratives of female facial hair led me to the work of gender theorists Judith Butler and Jennifer Germon, and to a number of sociological and medical studies on the experiences of women with hirsutism linked to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). The theoretical framework arose from themes within this research: images of freaks and mirrors, debates about terminology and self-definition, and the voice’s ability to articulate the human have informed my creation of an alternative narrative of female facial hair. In my research into narratives of female facial hair, I mapped two main ‘genres’: the cosmetic narrative, in which facial hair is removed for aesthetic reasons; and the medical narrative, in which facial hair is diagnosed as a symptom of illness, and then removed. While hair removal is intended to reduce stigma, I argue that both narratives are unable to address the source of stigma: binary gender norms. In Beard the Bully, I present female facial hair as primarily an issue of gender: the hair confronts the gender binary, and it demands that the bearer find a way to articulate their non-binary subjectivity. This extract of Beard the Bully concludes with the idea that a female beard is “all possibility”, countering the widely accepted belief that a beard is a thing that a female body does not or should not have. By offering my own experiences in this literary memoir, I hope to contribute to a shift in the conversations around female facial hair, allowing for the possibility of discussion, representation, and growth.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common and complex endocrine condition with reproductive and metabolic complications, affecting up to 10% of reproductive-age women. Hyperandrogenemia, ovulatory dysfunction, and luteinising hormone hypersecretion are characteristic traits of PCOS however, it seems that the most concerning long-term key issues are metabolic problems associated with the syndrome, such as hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, obesity, dyslipidaemia and non-alcoholic liver disease. Despite the numerous studies on PCOS, its origin and pathophysiology are still not fully understood. However, there is increasing evidence that the adult PCOS phenotype is programmed in fetal life by androgen excess. Exposure to increased levels of testosterone in utero in rodents, sheep and monkeys result in adult reproductive and metabolic pathologies that parallel those seen in PCOS women. Since hyperandrogenemia is a hallmark of PCOS and daughters of PCOS mothers have elevated levels of androgens at birth, it is likely that prenatal androgenisation during early life predispose to the future development of PCOS. Animal models of PCOS provide an opportunity to examine the developmental aetiology and molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of this condition. Over last 10 years our lab has successfully utilised a well-established ovine model of PCOS, where pregnant ewes were treated with testosterone propionate (TP) through mid-gestation. From this model, we had a large sample bank of fixed and frozen tissues from the fetal, lamb and adolescent prenatally androgenised animals that allowed to carry a broad range of experiments. In addition, a new cohort of prenatally androgenised adult sheep enabled additional in vivo analysis. Past research documented that prenatal androgenisation result in hyperinsulinemia with altered pancreas structure and function, and early fatty liver without difference in body weight in adolescent sheep. This thesis examines the effects and consequences of increased in utero androgen exposure on metabolic dysregulation in adolescent and adult female sheep. During puberty, but not fetal or early life, there was decreased adipogenesis in subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), but not visceral adipose tissue (VAT), accompanied by decreased circulating concentrations of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), leptin and adiponectin, and increased concentrations of fasting free fatty acids (FFA) in prenatally androgenised sheep. This was countered by upregulated expression of FFA transporters in liver. As adults, TP-exposed animals had increased body weight, elevated fasting insulin and FFA concentrations but normal FGF21, leptin and adiponectin levels. Histological analysis revealed that adult TP-exposed animals had SAT hypertrophy, which was associated with increased expression of inflammatory markers and correlated with increased fasting FFA. Therefore, it is likely that impaired preadipocyte differentiation in SAT during adolescence resulted in hypertrophy and inflammation of adult SAT. This consequently lowered capacity of SAT to safely store fat and potentially explains metabolic perturbations observed in PCOS-like female sheep. To further investigate potential causes of obesity in adult PCOS-like sheep postprandial thermogenesis (PPT), an important constituent of energy expenditure, was measured through implantation of datalogger thermometers into interscapular adipose tissue. Adult prenatally androgenised sheep had decreased amplitude of PPT, without difference in basal body temperature, despite receiving the same caloric intake, and independent of obesity. These findings indicate that adult PCOS-like sheep have reduced capacity for energy expenditure, which is mirrored in women with PCOS. This reduced capacity for postprandial thermogenesis was correlated with hyperinsulinemia decreased noradrenaline levels and reduced thermogenic potential of brown and/or beige adipose tissue. This suggests that women with PCOS might be prenatally programmed to become obese. In summary, findings documented in this thesis provide better understanding into the pathophysiology of PCOS from puberty to adulthood and give opportunities for early clinical intervention to ameliorate the metabolic phenotype of PCOS.

of Equality to its ideals. The incorporation of this principle has instituted a tension that infiltrates and runs through the capillaries of the PCC, effecting simultaneous formations and suppressions of power foci, alongside concurrent constructions and dissolutions of hierarchies. A series of mechanisms and strategies have been triggered in order to set up a Command between equals , establishing tensions in all its political dimensions. This work approaches the functioning of the PCC through the description of diverse
plans by which its politics is operated. One of these plans concerns the PCC as a transcendental force, whose investigation led to theoretical wrings that enabled me to
reflect about the construction of a transcendence by means of an immanentist anthropology, that is, an anthropology that allows the understanding of transcendence and the means of its production without considering it preeminent. It is the PCC-transcendence, produced in the immanence and to it mingled, that allows successive processes of deterritorialization concomitant to desindividualization phenomena, and supports the existence of this social formation without a firm territorial

The thesis sought to study whether cyanobacteria utilise the process of quorum sensing during their growth, to identify any quorum sensing molecules produced by the cyanobacteria Gloeothece PCC 6909/1 and to study the effect of any such molecules in aexenic cultures of the organism. The study presents the first evidence of N-octanoyl homoserine lactone (C8-HSL) quorum sensing molecule from axenic cultures of the cyanobacterium PCC 6909 and its sheathless mutant PCC 6909/1 and that the production of this molecule followed a density dependent accumulation, a common feature of many quorum sensing systems. The response of the Gloeothece proteome to exogenous concentrations of C8-HSL was examined, indicating changes in 43 protein spots on a 2D-PAGE gel, thereby indicating a response through global changes in protein expression. Among the 15 proteins that showed more than 2 fold expression changes, RuBisCo, glutamate synthase, chorismate synthase, a LysR family of transcriptional regulator (all up regulated) enolase and aldolase (down regulated) could be identified. A number of phosphorylated proteins also showed increased accumulation suggesting changes in the phosphoproteome of Gloeothece. A response to C8-HSL was also detected in physiological changes of the organism through decreased accumulation of extracellular soluble carbohydrates and an increased acid phosphatase activity from cell extracts. In conclusion, this study presents evidence that the cyanobacterium Gloeothece employs a C8-HSL based quorum sensing system through the accumulation and response to a C8-HSL signal. These findings can help increase our understanding of how colonial cyanobacteria encounter stress at high cell densities.

Este trabalho analisa teórica e empiricamente a pretensão de legitimidade do agrupamento autodenominado Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) nos distritos periféricos do município de São Paulo (MSP) onde tem adquirido forte territorialização. Legitimidade aqui entendida enquanto um processo dinâmico travado no âmbito de relações de poder que envolve, de um lado, as autojustificações do PCC no exercício de suas práticas, especialmente no âmbito da regulação de condutas e resolução de conflitos, e, de outro, a possibilidade de seu reconhecimento pelos moradores e profissionais dessas localidades. No que concerne à operacionalização dessa regulação e arbitragem de conflitos, aborda-se centralmente a pretensão ao direito de matar acionado pelo PCC por meio dos debates ou tribunais do crime, a fim de evidenciar que o uso da força física é um dos pilares fundamentais de sustentação desse poder. De forma mais ampla, essa problemática é situada no contraponto aos limites do Estado em promover o monopólio legítimo do uso da força física na sociedade brasileira, seja devido à sua incompletude na promoção da segurança pública ou por sua atuação historicamente arbitrária e abusiva. Consiste em um estudo qualitativo que procura ressaltar a multiplicidade de efeitos produzidos pela presença de grupos criminosos (sob a normatividade do PCC) nessas localidades e as possibilidades de reconhecimento dos moradores e profissionais diante das práticas desses grupos. Considerando-se as ambiguidades que perpassam as relações entre o PCC, as forças de segurança estatais e os moradores e profissionais desses locais, sustenta-se que não é possível afirmar que o PCC é uma instância legítima perante a população e sim que há possibilidades de reconhecimento (em diferentes gradações) constituídas constantemente por meio dessas relações, o que tensiona, mas não desconstrói a legitimidade estatal enquanto expectativa sempre reatualizada. Nessa perspectiva, delimitam-se para fins analíticos três possibilidades, entendidas em suas interconexões: ausência de reconhecimento, atrelada ao medo e às situações de coação produzidas pelas práticas dessa instância de poder; reconhecimento situacional constituído nas brechas e limites da atuação estatal; e situação de reconhecimento, na qual se verifica uma maior consonância entre as concepções da população e as práticas de fazer justiça do PCC. No que concerne a esse último aspecto, ganha relevo as seletividades operantes no uso da força física no interior dos mecanismos de punição do PCC, conformando esse próprio uso como aspecto importante nas ponderações sobre a possibilidade de reconhecimento dessa instância de poder. Possibilidade que encerra conjuntamente às práticas de violência estatais extralegais (mas igualmente com pretensões de legitimidade) limites à constituição de um Estado democrático de Direito no país.<br>This study analyses theoretically and empirically the pretension of legitimacy of the criminal group self-titled Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) in peripheral districts of the city of Sao Paulo, places where the group is rooted. Legitimacy here is understood as a dynamic process that takes place within power relations that involves on the one hand the self-justification of PCC in the exercise of their practices, especially in the context of regulation of conduct and conflict resolution and on the other hand, the possibility of their recognition by residents and professionals in these locations. Regarding the operationalization of this regulation and arbitration of conflicts, the study focuses mainly the pretension of the \"right to kill\" claimed by the PCC through debates or criminal courts in order to show that the use of physical force is one of the sustaining pillars of this power. Broadly, this issue lays on the state limitation in promoting legitimate monopoly on the use of physical force in Brazilian society whether due to its incompleteness in promoting public safety or on its historically arbitrary and abusive action. It consists in a qualitative study that tries to highlight the multiplicity of effects produced by the presence of criminal groups (in the normativity of PCC) in these locations and the possibilities of recognition by residents and professionals on the practices of these groups. Taking into account the ambiguities that pervade the relations between the PCC, the state security forces, the residents and the professionals of these locations, it is argued that if it is not possible to say that the PCC is a legitimate instance to the population, it is possible to say that there are different degrees of recognition constantly formed by these relationships, which can damage but not tear down the state legitimacy as an expectation always updated. In this perspective, for analytical purposes we delimit three possibilities, understood in their interconnections: no recognition, linked to the fear and duress situations produced by the practices of this instance of power; situational recognition made in the gaps and limitations of state action; and situation of recognition, in which we can see a greater consonance between the views of the population and the practices of \"doing justice\" of the PCC. Regarding this last aspect, we should highlight the selectivity in the use of physical force within the PCC punishment mechanisms, since this use is an important aspect of the weightings of the possibility of recognition of this power instance. Possibility that appears, next to extra-legal state violence practices (but which also have the pretension of legitimacy), as a limit to the establishment of a democratic Rule of Law in the country.

Abstract
Most women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) exhibit features of metabolic syndrome, including insulin resistance, abdominal obesity, dyslipidaemia, glucose intolerance and low-grade chronic inflammation, reflected in elevated levels of serum C-reactive protein (CRP), placing these women at increased risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes (type 2 DM).
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of two well-known insulin-lowering drugs used in the treatment of type 2 DM, metformin and rosiglitazone, on traditional cardiovascular risk factors and inflammation in women with PCOS. In addition, the impact of rosiglitazone was evaluated as regards clinical, endocrine and metabolic aspects of PCOS.
Six-months of metformin treatment in women with PCOS had beneficial effects on levels of CRP, lipid profile and blood pressure, expressed as increased levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and decreased levels of triglycerides (TGs), decreased ratio of total cholesterol/HDL-C, decreased levels of CRP, and decreased systolic and diastolic blood pressures.
Four-month treatment with rosiglitazone in a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in overweight women with PCOS resulted in significant improvements in menstrual cyclicity, hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance and hyperinsulinaemia. In addition, rosiglitazone decreased levels of markers of low-grade inflammation, CRP and white blood cell (WBC) count, and the liver function marker alanine aminotransferase (ALAT), while having neutral effects on levels of lipids, and blood pressure.
In conclusion, metformin treatment, in accordance with the known beneficial metabolic effects of this drug, could be useful in the prevention of cardiovascular complications in women with PCOS. Rosiglitazone represents an alternative treatment for overweight anovulatory women with PCOS. It could be useful in the prevention of type 2 DM in overweight women with PCOS and for those suffering from possible side-effects related to metformin treatment. In addition, alleviation of inflammation and improvement of liver function during rosiglitazone treatment may indicate decreased future risks of cardiovascular diseases and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

In this study, an analysis of upwelling and biological activities impact on the seawater pCO2 variability was done to improve the knowledge about the pCO2 variability in seawater in the Baltic Sea. During upwelling activity, CO2 rich waters are upwelled to the surface. This influences air-sea CO2 flux and thus the net uptake/emission of CO2 by the sea. pCO2 and SST measurements from a SAMI sensor, located at the Östergarnsholm site in the Baltic Sea, and SST satellite data, was used to identify periods affected by upwelling activity. A strong variability due to upwelling activity was observed on the pCO2 concentration. The frequency of upwelling activity at the Östergarnsholm site was estimated to be around 20 % of the time from May-November. The relationship between pCO2 and SST during upwelling activity was found to depend of the month. In November, this relationship can be used to characterise the effect of upwelling, but for the other months there are no differences between the none- upwelling periods and the upwelling periods. Another type of period, characterized by a diurnal variability of pCO2 mainly driven by the biological effect, was also observed.<br>I denna studie undersöktes hur uppvällning och biologisk aktivitet påverkar koncentrationen av pCO2 i havet. Detta gjordes för att få ökad förståelse för korttidsvariationen av pCO2 i Östersjön. Under uppvällning pressas CO2-rikt vatten upp till ytan. Detta påverkar flödet av CO2 mellan hav och atmosfär och då även det totala upptaget/utsläppet av CO2 från havet. I studien användes pCO2 och SST mätningar från en SAMI-sensor, placerad vid Östergarnsholm i Östersjön, och en del satellitdata för att identifiera perioder påverkade av uppvällning. Det observerades att uppvällnings inverkan på koncentrationen av pCO2 varierar kraftigt. Frekvensen av uppvällning vid Östergarnsholm uppskattades vara ungefär 20 % av tiden under maj-november. Relationen mellan SST och pCO2 under perioder med uppvällning observerades variera från maj-november. I november kan denna relation användas till att uppskatta effekten av uppvällning men under de andra månaderna är relationen under uppvällning för lika relationen under icke- uppvällning. Även en annan slags perioder observerades; under dessa perioder observerades en dygnscykel av pCO2, driven av biologisk aktivitet.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects up to 10% of women, and is characterised by elevated testosterone (T) levels. Women with PCOS have higher scores than healthy women on a range of measures of psychological problems. Objective: To test the hypotheses that: 1/ The female fetus in a PCOS pregnancy experiences elevated T levels; 2/ T causes mood disturbance in women with PCOS. 3/women with PCOS show more signs of mood disturbance typical of symptoms of reactive hypoglycaemia than healthy controls. Design: Mainly between-groups cross-sectional studies. Also two meta-analyses. Setting: The research took place mainly in two London gynaecology clinics, University College London Hospital (UCLH) and the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead (RFH). Some of the research was conducted online, and at three other gynaecology and fertility clinics. Participants: Participants were recruited from hospital clinics, support groups for women with PCOS, or the internet. Most participants were women aged 18-40. Outcome Measures: Testosterone; psychometric measures of mood disturbance. Results: 1/ Elevated T was found in the umbilical cord blood of the female fetus in PCOS pregnancies; 2/ Mood problems in PCOS were not directly caused by T. 3/ Women with PCOS showed higher levels of mood problems typical of hypoglycaemia than controls. Conclusions: The findings suggest the female fetus in a PCOS pregnancy may be exposed to relatively high levels of T. Mood problems in adults with PCOS are possibly caused by the direct effects of low blood glucose and indirect effects of T (e.g. obesity) than direct effects of T. Further research using the gold-standard biochemical assessment methods is required for any replications of these findings.

A proxy for the North Atlantic gyre circulation has been developed, using sea-surface height from altimetry. In conjunction with the winter North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) index, statistical analysis has been applied to understand the key mechanisms of surface water partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) variability, both on the seasonal and inter-annual timescale. With respect to the seasonal amplitude of surface pCO2 in temperate regions (>40°N), it is found that the gyre circulation strength, in response to the winter NAO index, drives this seasonal amplitude. Under positive NAO index winters, the formation of mode waters is favoured through strong surface cooling. This deepens the mixed layer, entraining carbon and nutrient-rich subsurface waters into the surface layer and increasing the surface pCO2 in winter. This deep winter mixing, bringing up nutrients in combination with enhanced advection of nutrients from the subpolar region, may also enhance and prolong the following spring bloom, decreasing the pCO2 in both spring and early summer. Thus, the seasonal amplitude of surface pCO2 under a positive NAO phase would increase. Under negative NAO winters, surface cooling is not as pronounced compared to a positive NAO winter and therefore the mixed layer is not as deep. Thus, both vertical and horizontal (via advection) carbon and nutrient entrainment are reduced thereby decreasing the pCO2 in winter and potentially weakening the following spring bloom. Thus the seasonal amplitude of surface pCO2 under a negative NAO phase would decrease. The subtropical regions (25 - 40°N) are also subjected to similar processes as the temperate regions, under both positive and negative NAO winters. However, the above-mentioned lagged effect of carbon-rich sub-surface water and nutrient entrainment in winter on the intensity of the spring bloom has to be treated with caution given the lack of statistically significant correlations between the surface pCO2 in winter and the proxy for carbon-rich subsurface water in spring. On inter-annual timescales, the phase of the winter NAO alters the ocean circulation in all regions. Under a positive NAO index, the subtropical gyre is more spun-up and with increased SST, increasing the annual mean pCO2. In the temperate zone, the interplay between carbon entrainment and biological drawdown dominates, dampening the inter-annual pCO2 variability.

Esta dissertação discute o modo como a cidade de São Paulo, marcada pelos ataques do Primeiro Comando da Capital de maio de 2006, é construída em Salve Geral (Sérgio Rezende, 2009), Inversão (Edu Felistoque, 2010) e Os Inquilinos (Sergio Bianchi, 2009). Distantes dos paradigmáticos títulos cariocas que têm abordado violência e crime nas últimas décadas e em consonância com a polifórmica São Paulo do cinema, Salve Geral, Inversão e Inquilinos constroem diferentes cidades na tela. Em suas distintas opções formais e narrativas, encontramos entre os três títulos possiblidades que escapam de um apelo sensacional do evento. De modo instigante, os três filmes inserem a cobertura dos meios de comunicação em suas diegeses, colocando em pauta as interlocuções midiáticas em torno da violência, reforçando a importância das diferentes narrativas na construção do fenômeno e sugerindo uma postura reflexiva sobre a implicação dos filmes nesse conjunto de narrativas.<br>This dissertation inquiries the ways in which the city of Sao Paulo, marked by the attacks carried out by the criminal organization PCC (First Command of the Capital) in May 2006, is shown on three recent movies: Time of Fear (Salve Geral, Sérgio Resende, 2009),The Tenants - Don\'t Like It, Leave (Os Inquilinos, Sérgio Bianchi, 2009) and Inversão (Edu Felistoque, 2010). All three movies strengthen the multiple filmic representations of Sao Paulo, and not only differ from each other, but also when compared to recent movies that deal with urban violence, specially box-office hits shot in Rio de Janeiro like City of God (Cidade de Deus, Fernando Meirelles, 2002) and Elite Squad (Tropa de Elite, José Padilha, 2007). Through its multiple narrative and formal choices, we see among the three movies possibilities that escape a sensationalistic appeal of the event. In an interesting way the three movies not only include the attacks but also the mediatic reverberations, pointing the implication of the many narratives in the building of the phenomenon of violence and encouraging a reflective thought about is own construction

Previous issue date: 2016-03-09<br>CAPEs<br>A artrite reumatóide (AR) é uma doença crônico-degenerativa, sistêmica, auto-imune. Atualmente, o anticorpo antipeptídeo citrulinado cíclico (Anti-PCC) é considerado o marcador mais importante para o diagnóstico preditivo e prognóstico da AR. Neste trabalho, desenvolveu-se um imunossensor eletroquímico para detecção do Anti-PCC, a partir da modificação da superfície de um eletrodo de carbono vítreo com nanocompósito de óxido de grafeno reduzido-polissulfona (Gor-PSF) o qual apresenta boas características de aumento da área eletrocatalítica e imobilização de moléculas biológicas. Foram realizados capturas de imagens micrográficas por microscopia eletrônica de varredura da superfície do eletrodo de trabalho antes e após sua modificação, pelas quais foi possível comprovar uma superfície lisa não modificada sem estruturas adsorvidas após limpeza física, e que a superfície modificada com Gor-PSF apresentou um recobrimento ideal de toda a superfície com a presença de uma estrutura esponjosa comprovando a modificação da área de trabalho. Para captura do Anti-PCC, antígenos citrulina (CCP-Ag) foram imobilizados sobre a superfície eletródica do nanocompósito por provável ligação covalente entre os grupos amino e carboxilícos presentes no CCP-Ag e no óxido de grafeno reduzido, respectivamente. A técnica de voltametria de onda quadrada (VOQ) foi empregada para detecção do Anti-PCC, produzindo um imunossensor livre de marcação. Observou-se que o GOR-PSF foi capaz de aumentar a corrente de pico anódico (Ipa) 2,2 vezes mais, comparado com o controle (sem GOR-PSF) demonstrando que o filme proporcionou melhor capacidade eletrocatalítica, sendo também estável (coeficiente de variação da corrente < 1 %) avaliado por submeter o eletrodo a 20 ciclos consecutivos de voltametria cíclica. O imunossensor proposto apresentou uma boa linearidade com r=0,983 (p<0.003; n = 5) e limite de detecção de 0,004 ng/mL de Anti-PCC. A plataforma sensora demonstrou propriedades desejáveis de estabilidade, sensibilidade e reprodutibilidade na detecção de Anti-PCC com perspectivas de desenvolvimento de dispositivos “point-of-care”.<br>Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic degenerative disease, systemic, autoimmune. Currently, the cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) is considered the most important predictive marker for the diagnosis and prognosis of RA. In this work, we developed an electrochemical immunosensor for the detection of anti-CCP, from the surface modification of a glassy carbon electrode with nanocomposite reduced-polysulfone graphene oxide (GOr-PSU) which has good rise characteristics of electrocatalytic area and immobilization of biological molecules. of micrographic images catches were performed by scanning electron microscopy of the surface of the working electrode before and after modification, by which it was possible to establish a smooth unmodified without adsorbed structures after physical cleaning, and that the modified surface with GOr-PSU presented an ideal coating the entire surface with the presence of a spongy structure confirming the modification of the work area. For capture of anti-CCP, citrulline antigens (Ag-CCP) were immobilized on the electrode surface of the nanocomposite probably due to covalent bond between the amino and carboxylic groups present in the CCP-Ag and the reduced graphene oxide, respectively. Square wave voltammetry technique (VOQ) was used for detection of anti-CCP producing a marking-free immunosensor. It was observed that the GOR-PSU was capable of increasing the anodic peak current (IPA) 2.2 times as compared with the control (without GOr-PSU) demonstrating that the electrocatalytic film provided better capacity also being stable (coefficient the variation of the current <1%) evaluated by subjecting the electrode 20 consecutive cycles of cyclic voltammetry. The proposed immunosensor exhibited good linearity with r = 0.983 (p <0.003; n = 5) and a detection limit of 0.004 ng / ml anti-CCP. The sensing platform demonstrated desirable properties of stability, sensitivity and reproducibility in the Anti-CCP detection with prospects of development of devices "point-of-care."
