Abstract:
Homozygous mice carrying kd (kidney disease) mutations in the gene encoding prenyl diphosphate synthase subunit 2 ( Pdss2 kd/kd) develop interstitial nephritis and eventually die from end-stage renal disease. The PDSS2 polypeptide in concert with PDSS1 synthesizes the polyisoprenyl tail of coenzyme Q (Q or ubiquinone), a lipid quinone required for mitochondrial respiratory electron transport. We have shown that a deficiency in Q content is evident in Pdss2 kd/kd mouse kidney lipid extracts by 40 days of age and thus precedes the onset of proteinuria and kidney disease by several weeks. Prenyl diphosphate synthase subunit 2 (PDSS2) is the first key enzyme in the CoQ10 biosynthesis pathway, and contributes to various metabolic and nephritic diseases. It has been reported that PDSS2 is downregulated in several types of tumors and acts as a potential tumor suppressor gene to inhibit the proliferation and migration of cancer cells. However, the regulatory mechanism of PDSS2 expression remains elusive. In the present study, we first identified and characterized the PDSS2 promoter region. Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and collapsing glomerulopathy are common causes of nephrotic syndrome. Variants in >20 genes, including genes critical for mitochondrial function, have been associated with these podocyte diseases. One such gene, PDSS2, is required for synthesis of the decaprenyl tail of coenzyme Q10 (Q10) in humans. The mouse gene Pdss2 is mutated in the kd/kd mouse model of collapsing glomerulopathy. We examined the hypothesis that human PDSS2 polymorphisms are associated with podocyte diseases. We genotyped 377 patients with primary FSGS or collapsing glomerulopa

Over the past four decades, due to cultural and social changes, women in the developed world have significantly delayed childbirth. This trend is even worse for patients who attend infertility clinics. It is well-known that live birth rates in women older than 35 are significantly lower than in those younger, both naturally and with assisted reproduction. Fertility decline is, in part, due to an increase in oocyte aneuploidy that leads to a reduced embryo quality, as well as an increased incidence of miscarriages and birth defects. Abstract Southwestern Asia, defined here as the domain bounded by 20°–40°N and 40°–70°E, which includes the nations of Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, is a water-stressed and semiarid region that receives roughly 75% of its annual rainfall during November–April. The November–April climate of southwestern Asia is strongly influenced by tropical Indo-Pacific variability on intraseasonal and interannual time scales, much of which can be attributed to sea surface temperature (SST) variations. The influences of lower-frequency SST variability on southwestern Asia climate during November–Apri

In their study, the researchers considered this version a useful alternative to evaluate depressive symptoms in pregnancy, taking into account its reliability, concurrent validity and satisfactory combinations of sensitivity and specificity to screen for antenatal depression.AimTo confirm the four dimensions’ structure of the PDSS-24 using confirmat

AbstractLayered transition metal dichalcogenides with excellent nonlinear absorption properties have shown remarkable performance in acting as ultrafast photonics devices. In our work, palladium diselenide (PdSe2) nanosheets with competitive advantages of wide tunable bandgap, unique puckered pentagonal structure and excellent air stability are prepared by the liquid-phase exfoliation method. Its ultrafast absorption performance was verified by demonstrating conventional and dissipative soliton operations within Er-doped fiber lasers. The minimum pulse width of the conventional soliton was 1.1

Abstract Context.—In immunohistochemistry, nonstandardized antigen retrieval protocols and fluids, poor-quality antibodies, and the presence of endogenous biotin frequently lead to incorrect results. Recently, advanced reagents including bifunctional SkipDewax pretreatment solution (BSPS), rabbit monoclonal (RM) antibodies, and biotin-free polymer detection systems (PDSs) have been developed, which, it is claimed, resolve these problems. Objectives.—To determine whether BSPS, RM antibodies, and biotin-free PDSs improve the accuracy of immunohistochemistry; to optimize a new protocol consisting

Personal data spaces, or PDSs, are emerging intermediary services that allow users control over the sharing and use of their data. In this article, the surveillance capitalism model, which describes how businesses employ datafication to create value in the digital economy, is used to contextualize PDSs. Focusing on three PDS services, I analyze the social imaginaries they represent, paying attention to the increased agency over data they offer users. This proposed agency reflects the efforts of PDSs to intervene in, but not counter, surveillance capitalism. While their goal is to intensify dat

Repetition has been associated with higher future morbidity and suicidality.AimTo examine the relationship between psychological variables at pregnancy and previous repetition of suicidal attempts, first attempts and absence of attempts.MethodsThe sample comprise 568 third trimester pregnant women, mean aged 29.82 years (SD = 4.55; variance = 17–44). Previous suicidal behaviors were assessed with diagnostic interview for genetic studies, depression with PDSS and BDI-II, and affect with POMS. Current suicidal though
