The results of the study of electronic resources «Great deed of the people in 1941–1945», «Memory of the people in 1941–1945» of presentation for the award and awarding of medical officers with Navy medals during the Great Patriotic War have been considered. Two unique cases of awarding medical officers with the Order of Nakhimov have been described. It is shown that holders of award A. I. Katkov and A. G. Shishov greatly contribute to national med-icine due to their work in time of peace and war.

Abstract:
The formation of the first state system in Europe took place from the conclusion of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, as a result of the Thirty Years’ War (1618-1648), to the Utrecht (1713), Rastatt-Baden (1714) and Nystad Congresses (1721) which finished the end of the war of the Spanish Succession and the Northern war. The legal fixation of the Westphallian system was accompanied by its public perception and acceptance. First of all, this was demonstrated by International Congresses, which were not only a common negotiation process, but also a place of representation of the significance and culture of each state. In fact, the European Congress was a carefully designed triumph of Рeace within the continent, which required considerable funds, was widely covered in the press and glorified in celebrations, paintings, plastic art, release of commemorative medals, poetry and even fashion. The article presents the most striking examples of iconography of Peace Congresses. The author believes that their performative nature and iconography, emphasizing the European character of Peace and the protopatriotic moods that it evoked, made a significant contribution to the civilization heritage of Europe.

He is the first deputy chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation, a member of the Presidium of the Council of Muftis of Russia, a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, rector of the Moscow Islamic Institute, professor of St. Petersburg State University, a member of the Commission on Improving Legislation and Law Enforcement Practice of the Council for Cooperation with Religious Associations under the President of the Russian Federation, a member of the working group of the Commission on Religious Associations under the Government of the Russian Federation, a member of the Public Council of the Federal Agency for Nationalities. He was awarded the medals of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the European part of Russia “For Merit” and “For Spiritual Unity”; by Mufti Ravil Gainutdin decree was awarded the highest award of Muslims of Russia - the Order of Honor “Al-Fakhr”, the Order of Muslims of Russia “For Merit”. The interview comprehends the role of Islam in the modern world, including its role in maintaining peace and stability in regions of Islam. Particular attention is paid to cooperation and development of relations between the Russian Federation and the Eastern countries, including the CIS states, through religious channels. Damir Mukhetdinov emphasizes the importance of improving Islamic education in Russia, as well as the development of such scientific areas as Oriental studies, Islamic studies, Theology.

Abstract:
Professor Semyon Semyonovich Girgolav was born on February 2 (14), 1881 in Tiflis (Tbilisi) in a large family of the hereditary honorary citizen of St. Petersburg Semyon Gavrilovich Girgolav. In 1899, he graduated from the Second St. Petersburg Classical Gymnasium with a silver medal and immediately entered the Imperial Military Medical Academy, from which he graduated with honors in 1904. Under the guidance of M. S. Subbotin, S. S. Girgolav prepared and in 1907 successfully defended his doctoral dissertation «Experimental data on the use of an isolated omentum in abdominal surgery». In 1912, Semyon Semyonovich was elected by the Conference of the Academy as a privatdozent of the general surgery clinic, and in 1914, he was confirmed as a senior assistant of the clinic. In the 1920/21 academic year, S. S. Girgolav introduced mandatory practical classes in general surgery for the first time in our country, where students studied and mastered the methods of asepsis and antiseptics, mastered the methods of examining patients with surgical diseases, methods of applying various bandages and transportation splints, techniques for temporary hemostasis, etc. In 1932, Semyon Semyonovich was appointed Deputy Director for the scientific part of the Leningrad Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (now the Russian Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics named after R. R. Vreden). In the pre-war years, the main direction of scientific research of S. S. Girgolav and his staff in the hospital surgery clinic was the study of the regularities of the wound process and wound healing in surgical pathology. S. S. Girgolav applied much efforts and energy to the problems of traumatology. He developed the technique of a number of original surgical operations for acute fractures of long bones, the habitual dislocation of the shoulder joint. Semyon Semyonovich’s scientific heritage is great and multifaceted. He has published more than 140 scientific papers on general, military and thoracic surgery, traumatology, neurosurgery, surgical endocrinology and oncology, combustiology, pathology and therapy of frostbites and burns. Under the supervision of S. S. Girgolav, more than 20 doctoral and 45 candidate theses were prepared and defended. For outstanding services to the Motherland in peace and war, S. S. Girgolav was awarded two Orders of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of the Red Star, many medals and badges of honour. Academician Semyon Semyonovich Girgolav died on January 25, 1957 in Leningrad and was buried at the Bogoslovskoe Cemetery.

Every human being has certain rights to live with dignity and peace and should not be discriminated. However, history of human civilization tells us there have been discrimination on many counts. Otherwise, there won’t have been words like slavery, untouchability, exploitation, patriarchy existing. Women are no exception to discrimination and exploitation. Human rights of women have been violated, they have been deprived of their respect, economic, social and political status and the basic principle of equality (equality with her counterpart, i.e., men). The question of human rights becomes very pertinent when it comes to gender and gender justice. This has given birth to feminist movements. The author here wishes to testify the march of the human rights of women, the journey and the progress made after struggle by all the feminist movements and more importantly the economic and social status of women in the present era. The author has tried to show how the matriarchy in early development of civilization was demolished and how there was a downfall of women after advancement of patriarchy through the personification of power by men inside and outside of the family. In fact, the notions of property and inheritance put an end to the foundations of matriarchy and consequently they were converted to objects belonging to the father, the husband and the family. The author could also find several other reasons, old customs in the patriarchal society for their exploitation and violation of their human rights. Further the role of U.N. and its organs was very vital and important as the problems of women were considered in their social aspect from time to time. Today we find women in all fields of national life: engineers, doctors, pilot, professors, diplomats, artists who have won gold medals in sports, etc. But it took a very long time to finally see women acceding to highest posts in the Parliament. March of human rights of women is progressing constantly as efforts have been made but a lot needs to be done as discriminations, inequalities, injustice and harassment of all kinds will not disappear overnight.

Abstract:
The Royal Humane Society was founded in 1774 as Britain’s first primary aid organisation. In addition to researching and disseminating information on the treatment of the apparently dead, it took practical steps both to prevent accidents and to reward individuals who saved others from drowning or asphyxiation. The Society and its work were widely admired and imitated both within the United Kingdom and overseas, whilst the medal which it established in 1775 to reward such deeds became the first British bravery medal to be widely distributed to both men and women of all social classes and also served as a model both for other societies and the Crown. Unlike continental countries such as France, Britain had been slow to adopt the medal as a means of rewarding and encouraging bravery. Official interest in the use of medals to encourage loyalty to the Crown and to reward valour was prompted by the army’s experiences in the Crimea, whilst the extension of such rewards to cover deeds of civil bravery was in part driven by public demand, although control of the distribution of these rewards remained firmly in the hands of middle and upper-class men, who imposed their own value systems on the deeds which they reviewed. An analysis of both official and unofficial rewards shows that working class, female and non-white rescuers were under-represented. The tales of working class medallists were however of particular interest to the writers of improving tracts, who fashioned ‘exemplary lives’ around the bones of the stories of honoured workers. This in turn led to the creation of a new breed of working-class heroes, whose stories were widely distributed with the intention of providing acceptable role models for the labouring classes. This represented a radical departure from previous models of heroism, which had been sharply focussed on leaders and warriors drawn from the echelons of the ruling elite. Until the outbreak of the Great War, the majority of bravery medals awarded each year were given by private societies in recognition of civilian bravery. This dominance ended in 1914, when conscription and wholesale slaughter altered forever the popular perception of courage.

Abstract:
I examine the mobility and circulation of peace medals featured in nineteenth-century portraiture of Native Americans through the lens of object-oriented ontology. This research strives to establish a different perspective for considering nineteenth-century portraiture of Native Americans by situating the works through the framework of materiality and circulation. By applying this approach to a series of portraits of Native Americans with peace medals, my research seeks to define issues of movement and power within the transient, fluctuating space of the nineteenth-century American frontier. To accomplish this, I trace the production and distribution of peace medals within paintings widely viewed at the time, as well as the movement of groups and individuals involved with transporting and receiving the medals. Tracking these objects and their mechanisms of movement within the visual culture of the nineteenth century, indicating not only the thing itself but also its processes of production and movement, reveals a dimension of specificity to pictorial narratives, even as the exhibited artworks promoted generalized ideals regarding Indian policy through their circulation. I follow the peace medals’ logistics of production and transit to underscore issues of value and currency on the American frontier, highlighting the ways in which peace medals and the artwork depicting them participated in narratives of Native displacement.

The Colombian society is heading towards a new political dawn with the signing of the peace accord between the government and the Marxist guerrilla Farc in 2016. The civil war between the guerrilla and the Colombian state broke out in the 1960´s, and has gathered a lot of media attention over the years. This thesis will focus on how Swedish media has portrayed the conflict, and what frames they are using – a frame that is focusing on peace or a frame that focus on war? The study will be carried out with a qualitative content analysis method based on Johan Galtung’s Peace Journalism theory, examining 148 articles published by Svenska Dagbladet, Dagens Nyheter, Aftonbladet and Expressen on the subject of the Colombian conflict during the years 1995, 2002, 2009 and 2017.

Abstract:
Recent studies have found that new media use and the political unrest of the Arab Spring are highly related, some even claim that there is a causal relationship. Yet the Arab Spring saw different forms of unrest across different cases, with some countries experiencing nonviolent dissident activity, while others saw violent interactions unfold. How, and if, new media relates to this variation is not well understood. In this study, I examine fifteen MENA countries (excluding Iraq because of its ongoing war) to explore the mechanisms behind nonviolent vs. violent interaction. I derive several hypotheses from existing theories as well as literature on new media in order to report which theories can be observed as they pertain to the Arab Spring. Findings generally support my hypothesis that new media conditions the form of interaction seen between the state and dissidents. Where there is higher media access, countries are better able to emulate the nonviolent model of resistance set before them, whereas where media access is low and/or interfered, dissidents in the MENA region have tended to turn violent.

Titled, “Networking for Interests: An Epistemological Approach to Inter-Confessional Communication in Romania,” this doctoral thesis serves a triple purpose. First, in order to provide a sound thematic background and historical contextualization, the thesis will map out the evolution dialogue between the Protestant minorities and the Orthodox majority in Romania by using Johann Fichte’s triad of thesis, antithesis and synthesis, in the adaptation of Lourens Minnema’s model of cultural communication. Second, by using an inductive methodology, the thesis will analyze the current state of dialogue through a descriptive analysis of the mediatization of interfaith events held between 2015 and 2017 by confessional and secular media, as well as by mapping the existing structure of relationships between Orthodox and Protestant elites. Third, through inferential analysis, the thesis will test the sustainability of the current state of elite networking and dialogue under the two conditions of democratic pluralism, religious nationalism

Abstract:
Os experimentos de campo foram realizados em 2002 e 2003 em três pomares no município de Monte Alegre do Sul, SP, representados por uma coleção de linhagens de goiabeiras (janeiro a abril), uma coleção de cultivares de nespereiras (agosto a setembro) e uma coleção de cultivares de pessegueiros (setembro a outubro). Nos ensaios de infestação, foram utilizadas três linhagens de goiaba (Guanabara, L7P28 e 252), duas cultivares de nêspera (Precoce Campinas e a Precoce 264-54) e três cultivares de pêssego (Aurora 2, Dourado 1 e Régis). Para a determinação do período de infestação, aplicou-se o processo de ensacamento e desensacamento quinzenal e semanal da goiaba e nêspera, respectivamente, e apenas o ensacamento semanal no pêssego. Cada experimento iniciou-se com os frutos ainda no início de seu desenvolvimento (frutos verdes). Para o processo de desensacamento, no início dos experimentos foram ensacados 500 e 400 frutos de goiaba e nêspera, respectivamente. Em cada ensaio, desde o início (frutos verdes pequenos) até a completa maturação, quinzenalmente (goiaba) ou semanalmente (nêspera e pêssego) foi ensacada/desensacada uma amostra de 30 frutos, os comprimentos e diâmetro eram mensurados e retirava-se amostras para realização das análises físico-químicas em laboratório. Após o completo amadurecimento, os frutos foram colhidos e levados ao laboratório, onde foram pesados, medidos os diâmetro e comprimento e depois acondicionados individualmente em copos plásticos com areia+vermiculita até aproximadamente a metade e cobertos com “voil” preso com fita elástica. Para o conhecimento da flutuação populacional das moscas, foram instaladas três armadilhas modelo McPhail com torula (atraente alimentar) em cada pomar, de janeiro/2002 a janeiro/2004. Das moscas-das-frutas originadas dos frutos, foram identificadas cinco espécies de tefritídeos e oito espécies de lonqueídeos. Os parasitóides emergidos foram das famílias Braconidae e Figitidae, representados por cinco espécies de cada uma. Ceratitis capitata apresentou comportamento sazonal com picos populacionais durante o segundo semestre. Verificou-se que a população de moscas-das-frutas (Anastrepha spp. e lonqueídeos) se mantém na área dos pomares (goiaba, nêspera e pêssego) durante o ano todo. Os três hospedeiros sofreram o ataque de moscas-das-frutas nos seus primeiros estádios de desenvolvimento, a partir de 2 cm de diâmetro. Ao longo do desenvolvimento, em todos os hospedeiros (goiaba, nêspera e pêssego), a infestação foi ascendente, apresentando as maiores elevações no final do amadurecimento. Os parâmetros físicos (tamanho, firmeza, brix e cor) mostraram-se mais confiáveis para o prognóstico da suscetibilidade do fruto ao ataque das moscas-das-frutas do que os parâmetros químicos (pH, acidez e umidade) para todos os hospedeiros. Os aspectos ecológicos da infestação dos frutos pela moscas-das-frutas e a relação tritrófica (parasitóide/mosca/fruto) foram discutidos.
Field experiments were conducted in three orchards in Monte Alegre do Sul, SP, each containing either a collection of strains of peach (September to October), guava (January to April) or loquat (August to September), during 2002 and 2003. Three strains of guava (Guanabara, L7P28 and 252), two of loquat (Precoce Campinas and Precoce 264-54) and three of peach (Aurora 2, Dourado 1 and Régis) were used for infestation assessment. Guava and loquat fruits were bagged and unbagged biweekly and weekly, respectively, for the assessment of the infestation period and only weekly for the peach. In all cases, fruits were bagged at the beginning of their development, while still green. A sample of 30 bagged fruits were unbagged weekly (loquat and peach) or biweekly (guava) until fruits were completely ripe, from a total of 500 (guava) and 400 (loquat) fruits. Fruits were measured and a sample was taken for physicochemical analysis. Fruits were harvested once they were ripe, taken to the laboratory, weighted and measured. They were placed into plastic cups half-filled with sand and covered with a fine fabric to allow for field-collected fly development. Three McPhail traps containing Torula yeast (food attractant) were hung from January/2002 to January/2004 to assess the population fluctuation of fruit flies in each orchard. Five tephritids and eight lonchaeids species emerged from field-collected fruits maintained in the lab. Five species each of braconid and figitid fruit fly parasitoids were also observed emerging from these fruits. Ceratitis capitata showed a sazonal behavior with population density peaking at the second semester. It was also observed that Anastrepha spp. and lonchaeids remained in the orchards throughout the year. All three host fruits larger than 2 cm in diameter were infested by fruit flies at the early stages of development. Fruit infestation increased in all orchards as fruit development occurred with the highest infestation level observed at the end of the ripening. Physical parameters, such as size, firmness, brix and color were more reliable in estimating fruit susceptibility to fruit-flies than the chemical parameters evaluated (pH, acidity and humidity) for all three host fruits. The ecological aspects of the infestation of fruits by fruit flies and the tritrophic interactions (parasitoid/fruit fly/fruit) were discussed.

El estudio de la intervención española en la ex - Yugoslavia se organiza a partir de dos temáticas centrales: el análisis de los mecanismos jurídicos e institucionales de las organizaciones internacionales y la experiencia vivida de los protagonistas de estas misiones de paz. Por lo tanto, la tesis se articula a tres bandas: historia jurídica, historia social del pensamiento y la experiencia vivida. Political violence, including terrorism, can be regarded as a form of (distorted) communication, in which media spectacles play an integral role. Conversely, mass-mediated communication can be regarded as a form of violence, and even terror, in several respects. Media are often propagandistic facilitators to state terror. More broadly, they may help to cultivate a political climate of fear and authoritarianism, contributing to conflict-escalating feedback loops. Even more broadly, beyond media representations, dominant media institutions are arguably embedded in relations of global economic, social, and cultural inequality—constituting a form of structural violence. Notwithstanding its democratic potential, the Internet does not comprise a clear alternative in practice, and neither censorship of terrorist spectacles nor the intensified pursuit of dominant forms of journalistic “objectivity” offer viable ways to reduce the media's imbrication with violence. Three potentially more productive strategies explored in this chapter include reforming the media field from within through the paradigm of Peace Journalism, supporting the development of alternative and community media, and building movements for media reform and democratization.

In the early 2000s, the Internet, the blogosphere and new online medias were said to have recreated and expanded the countercultural political uprisings of the late 1960s. The radicalism of the underground press, equality, anti-war and anti-colonial movements never quite managed the translate their counter-hegemonic activism into a dynamic restructuring of politics in the West. However, academics and activists saw potential in the Internet to offer a space with which to counter the narratives of political elites, capitalism, globalisation and the domination of western corporations. In Ireland, a group of writers, led by former republican prisoners, developed an activist media space that was critical of Sinn Féin, dissidents and the dominant narratives of the Peace Process. The print magazine Fourthwrite and the online magazine The Blanket, harnessed old and new technology to provide a sustained countercultural critique of their times. That they sustained themselves for much of the 2000s without a specific political vehicle or purpose while producing some of the most compelling and inclusive writing about the times is testament to the opportunities that technology provides for committed modern activists.
