Abstract:
The thesis suggests a way in which the peace movement can make itself attractive to citizens. It begins with the assumption that the movement should satisfy some of their personal needs. One such need is that of relief from the pains of anxiety. Drawing upon Heidegger, the thesis outlines two of these pains--impotence and unheimlichkeit--and shows why we experience them. Then, using Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, it explains why true friendship is a positive response to the pains. True friends further each other's courage, a virtue whose possession helps them to weather impotence. True friend

Nonviolent strategies have been shown to be more effective than violent insurgencies for countering oppression while increasing the subsequent degree of democracy in the country and reducing its chances of civil war. But we still do not know why some campaigns work and others do not. This dissertation develops a methodology for reframing our understanding of nonviolent conflict according to the all quadrants all levels (AQAL) model of integral theory that can also be used to investigate other topics as well.

The literature review covers terms, definitions, and misconceptions abo

Abstract:
This thesis cross-fertilises process philosophy and peace studies by exploring the ways in which process philosophers extend and strengthen peace scholars’ outlines of a paradigm of/for peace. The value of such a paradigm is illustrated through the example of the climate crisis, showing how process thinking and process metaphysics intervene at its roots. In making this argument, the “static-process framework” is developed as an inroad to process philosophy and a tool to assist with its application. This framework depicts tensions between two modes of thought—static and process thinking—accordi

The aim of this doctoral thesis is to comprehend the concepts of peace and development as a philosophy from the perspective of the Holy See (HS) in the United Nations (UN). This research has used two external parameters – ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ of 1948 and ‘Millennium Development Goals’ of 2000 to sum up this philosophy. The research process, with a qualitative-comparative methodology attained a perfect picture of an integral ‘Philosophy of Peace and Development,’ highlighting the diplomatic and secular face of the HS. This study shows the method and practice of the Holy See t
