The glasshouse experiments measure the effects of depth of placement and level of phosphorus (P) on the growth of field peas (Pisum sativum L. cv. Alma). The results of all the experiments suggest that placing P fertiliser 4-5 cm below the seed of field pea crops will be beneficial in terms of nodulation, P uptake, grain yield and grain P concentration.

The block effect in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is the degradation in spatial resolution that is seen when there are more scintillation crystals than photomultiplier tubes in a detector.<br>We measured the block effect in detectors from three PET scanners: the Siemens-CTI HR+, the GE Advance, and the Siemens-CTI HI-REZ. In the CTI HR+ the block effect was 0.7 mm in the central crystals, and negligible for the edge crystals. Background: Heat-shock (HS) proteins (HSP) are induced or increasingly expressed to protect against lethal environmental stresses. Hsp70 in particular, provides protection against various stresses including oxidative stress, is implicated in thermotolerance and appears to have an anti-apoptotic function. Current positron emission mammography (PEM) depth of interaction (DOI) enabling detectors have low scintillator to photodetector encoding ratios, RE causing high system complexity and cost. The modularized dual-ended readout block (DERB) detector combines the Anger logic block detector with dual-ended readout to increase RE while measuring DOI. To investigate the trade-off between RE and spatial resolution, scalable DERB detectors with varying RE and light guide thickness were modelled with Monte- Carlo. Simulation showed RE can increase up to six-fold compared to the dual-ended readout design

The most efficient ratio of cells to enzyme solution, for digestion of cell walls, needed to be established. <p>I. Glacigenic deposits in the Death Valley region occur within the Neoproterozoic Kingston Peak Formation. In the Panamint Range, immediately west of Death Valley, these strata are ≥1000 m thick and are continuously exposed for nearly 100 km along the strike of the range.
