Full textMadagascar, the great island (590 000 km2), is situated in the south-west of the indian ocean. Its coast is 6 000 km long. This third world country has an agricultural economy and its inhabitants are farmers (more than 80% of the working population). Nevertheless, the island has been peopled by successive waves of immigrants through the centuries, and malagasy people showed several times through their history how able they were to deal with maritime activities. The study of the maritime and port economy of madagascar shows the actual ability of inhabitants of the great island to expect an orientation towards coastal and maritime activities, most particularly fisheries, port development and maritime transportation, and also the international coastal tourism. These maritime propects are linked with a real decentralizating politic whom aims are the recovery of the costal areas and the well-balanced development of the country. They will allowed also the opening of the madagascar island towards the sea and the south-west part of the indian ocean, both within the framework of the ioc (indian ocean commission) and of the eaaec (east and austral african economical community)

Full textThe theme "reconversion" becomes a standing issue in the contemporary history and geography of traditional industrial ar refers to a major questioning of an economic, social, cultural and geographical system becoming obsolete. Lorraine, once regarded -with northern france- as a traditional stronghold of large industries, is one of these traditi areas severely stricken by an economic crisis promptly leading to a social crisis. The case of lorraine demonstrates how regional economy can be to a national or international crisis. This is due to the specificity of geographical, economic structures in lorraine : smaller economic areas specialised in mono industries, the overwhelming presence of large compa almost exclusively worker population. The failure of any attempt to overcome the crisis merely by converting the regiona new industrial activities has only worsened its impact and consequences. Lorraine is therefore faced to three major impe rehabilitate the industrial lands, redeploy into new activities, train its population to new qualifications. During the clear that lorraine would have to find alternatives to redeploy its traditional activities, the development of tourism a has been envisaged as a possible policy to steer away from the crisis. The present research work will investigate into t such policy to solve the problems faced by the region using two different approaches : analysing the evolution and decline of traditional industrial activities leading to the present day crisis to outline th faced by the region discussing the specific aspects of various tourism and leisure activities to identify the conditions of their implementa consequences for the regional geography. Both approaches will be implemented in four case studies in order to evaluate tourism and leisure activities as an appro to the economic and social reconversion issues in the region

Full textThe author proves and explains the existence of touristic activites within moroccan society which is in contradiction with the widely accepted principle according to which the rise and evolution of domestic tourism are taken to be excluded for third world countries. This demand is analyzed for its social and geographical dimensions. Socio-professional and cultural criteria are established in order to to determine the reasons for undertaking or not touristic activities. The hypothesis according to which the decision in favour of touristic activities concerns all parts of the society-except for its most marginal elements - is being confirmed; the examination of touristic styles and behavours aims at determining social differences and parti- cularities of the moroccan case. The analysis of tourist behaviour leads to the examination of moroccan tourist's relationship to the dimension of space. Particular relationships are seen to hold between domestic tourism and tourism of foreigners visiting morocco. The analyses of recreation sites of the principal cities lead to a regional distri- bution of the touristic radiation of these cities. With more than 60% of the moroccan tourists giving preference to seaside resorts. .

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is on the one hand to provide something to lean on so that the whole incidence of tourist activity upon the mediterranean space may be better estimated, and on the other hand to draw attention to the new part which can be played by the tourist industry as regards a policy preserving the physical environment and the blooming of man with a joint and soustainable development in mind. The fisrt part points out what the present situation of the general environment in the mediterranean area is. This general environment which is considered from three points of view i. E. Physical, demographic, socioeconomic draw attention to the differences between the northern side and the southern side of the area. The second part specifies the factors of the demand and measures the tourist activity in mediterranean countries. The third part makes an inventory of the incidences of tourism upon the economy, the physical and sociocultural environments of the accomodating countries in the mediterranean. The fourth part together with a prospective study suggests two necessary methods to a better approach to tourism and its various effects as well as a new idea of tourism

Full textOur research suggests identifying the modalities of access to « tourist leisure activities », for people with disabilities, and analysing the ideological and institutional foundations which underlie them. From interviews, associative papers and laws, we have established an ideological polarization supported by a structural organization. A logic of differentiation recommending tourist leisure activities only proposed to people with disabilities, forms it self. At the same time, other activities develop themselves in a logic of assimilation and are supported through a policy of certification of structures accessible for the reception of people with disabilities. These two modalities propose to answer to the variety of needs inherent to every type and degree of deficiency
