Full textAbstract The main purpose with our study is to improve knowledge concerning visually impaired students and their learning environment, in relation to the ongoing quality work of school. We have studied the connection between quality work of school, and the learning environment for students suffering from poor eyesight. The key concepts in the study, which are included in an accessible learning concept are social, learning, and physical environment, whilst concepts including the quality work of school are qualification and planning. We adopted a quantitative research strategy, and the survey includes a cross section design. All in all, the survey was sent to 92 respondents, representing different occupational categories in Primary school. Of these 52 responses were handed in, which all together form the basis of this study. The result of the study show that visually impaired students encounter many obstacles in school. When the school´s quality work changes, it affects the students learning environment and the opportunity to succeed in school. The strongest correlation was measured between qualification work and pedagogical environment. Overall, the results show that the school´s quality work – competence and planning, affect all learning environments, which means a statistic support for the study´s hypothesis. It is of the utmost importance that schools work preventively by mapping the environment of visually impaired students at an early stage to detect lack of accessibility and risk factors. We advocate preventive work with early mapping and, to greater extent, collaboration with external actors such as SPSM and the regions. Well-thought-out planned handovers at transitions are important to implement to avoid difficulties arising in the nee learning environment. It is positive that several different external actors are used in the school where the respondents work. Visually impaired students need to develop in their digital skills and data engagement because the digital skills will be needed throughout life for them to be able to live independently and participate in society. Hopefully, the study can contribute to a greater understanding of how the development of learning environment can be realized by changing school´s quality work. The conceptualization that has been created can be transferred to measuring accessibility in learning environments for students with other disabilities.
