Abstract:
Pedophiles are the most stigmatized population in society (Jahnke, Imhoff, & Hoyer, 2015; Sanghara & Wilson, 2006). Social worker’s responsibility is to maintain standards and treat individuals with dignity and respect (NASW, 2017). It is important to explore bias against pedophiles because studies have shown bias is linked to offender recidivism rates (Jahnke, Schmidt, Geradt, & Hoyer, 2015). Social workers may unintentionally inhibit pedophiles from seeking treatment if they hold strong biases against them which could potentially negatively impact child abuse rates. The purpose of this study was to identify bias reduction techniques so that they could possibly be implemented in the social work field. Experienced social workers and social work students were interviewed so that the origins of and methods to combat bias could be explored. Themes among interviewee responses were identified and the importance of Opening a Dialogue eclipsed the need to utilize bias reduction techniques.

Abstract:
This study explored the lived experiences of men attracted to minors who believed they would benefit from therapy but did not seek out or attend therapeutic services; and sought to gain an understanding of how the decision to seek help or not impacted their well-being. Participants included 7 men who were recruited through the B4U-ACT online forum, which provides peer support for the minor attracted community. Participants were interviewed over Skype. Data from these interviews was analyzed and coded according to the interpretative phenomenological method as outlined by Smith et al. (2012). Five main themes emerged, providing insight as to why more therapeutic support is not sought. These themes include: emotional distress, consideration of therapy, actual and perceived stigmatization, expectations of therapist assumptions, expectations of professionalism, and therapeutic support. The findings were compared with existing literature to propose ways mental health professionals can provide easier access to resources and reach the population, which can lead to societal benefits. Improved access to treatment has the potential to provide the population opportunities to better cope with stigma, manage their impulses more effectively, lower their feelings of isolation, and increase their overall well-being. This study helps to fill the current void in the area of research on help-seeking behaviors and the associated challenges that men attracted to minors may face.

Abstract:
Pedophilia is a crime with great impact on public opinion and is distinguished from chil sexual abuse. It configures a paraphilic disorder that can be diagnosed to individuals who freely admit this paraphilia, as well as to others who vehemently deny any sexual attraction to children under the age of 13 years old. There are pedophiles who have never sexually abused children, as well as sexual abusers of children who are not pedophiles. The main objective of this project, is to develop a proposal for a child sexual abuse prevention program, for schoolchildren, from ages of 7 to 13 years old. It also foresees the participation of teachers with specialization in sex education and two professionals with training in psychology and criminology.

Abstract:
Pedophilia, now termed pedophilic disorder, has been consistently defined by mental health professionals, social scientists, and historians as sexual interest in prepubescent children. In this chapter, we review evolving professional definitions of this disorder, available information regarding the prevalence of pedophilia, as well as etiological models to explain the development and manifestation of pedophilic interests. This includes considerations of historical as well as current views of how this disorder develops. Assessment strategies are reviewed, including the importance of a pretreatment psychosexual history as well as formal and structured assessment tools that are beneficial in treatment. Important treatment models for pedophilia include cognitive-behavioral therapy, relapse prevention, psychopharmacological interventions, and use of the risk-needs-responsivity framework. The chapter further describes empirical research related to recidivism and assessment of sex offender risk among those diagnosed with pedophilia, including the identification of common risk assessment tools. Finally, we conclude with a discussion of relevant policy issues and directions for future research in this important area.

Abstract:
This study utilized a qualitative/phenomenological research methodology to study the development of child molestation. Five volunteer male juvenile perpetrators of child molestation and their consenting family members participated in three one-on-one in-depth interviews. The juveniles were referred by juvenile justice departments in Texas. The investigation was pursued along three paths: (1) what factors in the perpetrators' life experiences may have influenced the formation of molesting thought and behavior patterns? (2) how did the perpetrators construe social relationships? (3) in developing sexual preference, what process did the perpetrators utilize to achieve the degree of sexual arousal needed to motivate the act of molestation? During analysis, 16 categories and 9 subcategories were developed from the data; these were evaluated in order to address the lines of inquiry listed above. Factors contributing toward deviancy were identified: these included general environmental factors and relationship issues with both parents and peers. The data also elucidated the perpetrators' characteristic ways of viewing themselves and other people, as well as the strategies that they relied upon to cope with their lives. These same strategies were subsequently used in their molesting. The results revealed that the answers to the investigational questions posed above were synthesized by the individual across the lifespan, with origins in childhood when the concepts of self, others, social convention and interpersonal relationships were forming. It is likely that the typical interest in sexual expression that occurs at the onset of puberty was a catalyst that facilitated molesting behavior. The lack of ability to interact successfully with age mates appeared to influence the perpetrators' selection of children as targets. Recommendations were presented for consideration by the mental health and criminal justice communities based on the findings. Also, preventative measures for the public sector were offered.

Abstract:
For decades, researchers have documented how stereotyping and unfair treatment affect the lives of people with stigmatized characteristics. Pedophilic sexual interests, however, have received remarkably little academic attention. This research gap should be closed for two important reasons. First of all, people with pedophilia have a particularly high risk of experiencing negative stigma-related consequences as, arguably, one of the most feared and despised groups in Germany and many other Western countries. Secondly, vulnerability factors that are hypothesized to contribute to a higher risk of sexually abusive behavior towards children (e.g., low self-esteem, emotion regulation problems, and reduced motivation to seek mental health services) are likely to be enhanced by stigma-related stress. That means that stigmatization of people with pedophilia might not only have a negative effect on members of this group but may also compromise child sexual abuse prevention. This thesis aims at laying the much-needed groundwork for the scientific study of stigma against people with pedophilia by (1) conducting a systematic and comprehensive review of the literature on stigma against people with pedophilia, (2) assessing the prevalence and strength of public stigma against people with pedophilia compared to other despised groups, (3) developing and testing a theoretical framework for the study of stigma-related stress and associated problems among people with pedophilia, and (4) creating and evaluating an anti-stigma intervention program. (1) Our literature review documented a lack of research on this issue as well as the need for theoretical concepts and methodological designs conceptualized specifically for this field of study. (2) A scale to assess public stigma against people with pedophilia was designed and used to survey a sample of German pedestrians and US American workers from the Internet marketplace MTurk. A parallel set of items was employed to measure public stigma against other groups (people who abuse alcohol, sexual sadists, and people with antisocial tendencies). Results of these surveys documented people with pedophilia to be massively disadvantaged by stereotyping beliefs, negative affective reactions, and social distance, even compared to the three other stigmatized groups. (3) To reach the third sub-goal, the author of this thesis formulated the “Framework for the Effects of Stigma-related Stress among People with Pedophilia”. It contains a set of assumptions highlighting the relationship between the stigma-related stress and the risk of child sex offending, which is assumed to be mediated by impairments in emotional and social areas of functioning, as well as cognitive distortions, and the person’s motivation to seek mental health services. The model was tested in an online sample of men with a sexual interest in children. Overall, results provided preliminary evidence for the hypotheses previously laid out. (4) Finally, these ideas were put to practical use in the development of an anti-stigma program for psychotherapists in training that was experimentally validated online. Findings indicated that a number of stigma-related beliefs, affects, and behavioral intentions can be changed at a cost-effective level. Motivation to treat help-seeking patients with pedophilia, however, could not be increased within the sample. In summary, this thesis shows that stigma against pedophilia is a serious and widespread problem, and offers concrete propositions to promote a more realistic and empathetic view of this group. By approaching the emotionally charged concept of pedophilia from a stigma perspective, the research presented in this thesis challenges the way in which not only people from the general public, but also scientists and health care professionals think about pedophilia, and corroborates the importance of stigma reduction within the wider context of child sexual abuse prevention.

Abstract:
Given that the Affinity 2.0 is a largely untested instrument that purports to measure sexual attraction, it was unknown whether or not the instrument is temporally stable and would provide a characteristic response curve for normal heterosexual male sexual interest. This study examined the Affinity 2.0, a newly standardized viewing time (VT) instrument that purports to measure sexual interest. More specifically, the Affinity 2.0 was examined in regard to its temporal stability and ability to generate a characteristic curve for non-pedophilic, exclusively heterosexual male interests. This examination was carried out by administering the Affinity 2.0 twice on a sample of 88 self-reportedly non-pedophilic, exclusively heterosexual men. The results of this study find the Affinity 2.0 to be mildly to moderately temporally stable and capable of rendering a characteristic sexual interest curve. Subjects created a typical profile that showed longest viewing time to images of adult and juvenile females with low viewing times to all other categories of attractors. Implications for norm-referenced decision making are discussed.

Abstract:
This study used the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III to examine the relationship of psychopathology and victim selection of young adult pedophiles convicted of Penal Code 288 (a). The sample consisted of 64 felons, aged 18 to 24, incarcerated at the California Youth Authority. Significant differences were not discovered between the group means of male or female victims or between familial and non-familial victims. Individual scale elevations above the Base Rate of 75 were significant between the groups. Depressive traits were reported for pedophiles who had both male and female victims and Dependent traits for only male victims. Incest offenders reported both Self-Defeating traits and problems associated with Drug Dependence. Non-familial offenders reported Paranoid personality traits. The results suggest that pedophilic interest is characterized by an independent, active, and defensive personality and also by a passive, dependent, drug dependent personality style, all contributing to molest potential. This group of pedophiles can be considered heterogeneous and cannot be characterized by any one diagnostic category.

Abstract:
Pedophilia is a complex and multifaceted subject that requires an interdisciplinary approach. Regarding the juridical sciences, one of the most important issues to be faced concerns the adequacy of the criminal response given to convicted pedophiles by the Brazilian criminal justice. The general aim of this research is to verify how the criminal response given to convicted pedophiles may be more appropriate in the light of the current state of the clinic art. For the main purpose to be reached, three specific aims were formulated: (I) to identify the clinical aspects of pedophilia that are relevant to understanding the phenomenon by the Law operators and that allow an interdisciplinary approach; (II) to enumerate the ethical aspects and the desirable presuppositions of the therapeutic measures and the juridical consequences of criminal conviction of pedophiles; and (III) to examine, in the light of alternative and ethically defensible measures, new possibilities of criminal response for convicted pedophiles. All issues also allowed the reflection on the appropriateness and aptness of the current legislative proposals in course at the National Congress on the subject. The approach is not limited to law doctrine and establishes links with other areas of the human knowledge, especially with the Forensic Medicine, Forensic Psychiatry and Forensic Psychology. This research intends to contribute to the criminal legal debate about the aptness or not of the implementation of mandatory therapeutic measures to convicted pedophiles, as well as to offer subsidies for the proposal of a new paradigm to forensic practice with regard to the juridical consequences of the criminal condemnation of people with pedophilic disorder.

Abstract:
This pilot study was designed to collect and analyze a broad range of descriptive data on out-patient pedophiles. Eighteen males with at least one legally charged pedophilic offense (excluding incest) participated in the research. Seven of the subjects sexually molested a male child (homosexual pedophiles) and eleven subjects sexually molested a female child (heterosexual pedophiles).
Subjects were administered the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI) and the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI). Subjects and their therapists also participated in a structured interview which sought data on psycho-social and offense variables.
Analysis of the MCMI results found that when profile configurations were compared, the homosexual group showed higher mean sub-scale elevations, a more cohesive pattern of sub-scale elevations, and significantly higher sub-scale scores for Passive-Aggressive personality as a feature. The heterosexual group shared Avoidant/Dependent features of personality with the homosexual group but individual profile configurations were much less homogeneous in sub-scale elevations. The analysis of the NPI results found no significant difference between the groups. A comparison of the structured interview data for the groups strongly suggests that homosexual offenders are more structured in their pedophilic interest than heterosexual offenders.
The results are discussed in relation to the validity of the fixated/regressed model for homosexual and heterosexual pedophiles, respectively. The relationship between personality, aetiology of pedophilic behavior, and offense pattern is considered. Implications and suggestions for future research are outlined.

Abstract:
This study compared one group of pedophiles, two groups of incestuous fathers, and two groups of incestuous stepfathers on their individual MMPI scale scores and self-reported demographic data. Past research on sex offenders has shown that patterns of variables are better indicators of offender typology than single variables. A nonrandom sample of male abusers (N=177) was drawn from two separate sources, a clinic that screens offenders for treatment disposition and an unrelated outpatient treatment clinic in the Portland, Oregon area. Scores from the 13 MMPI scales as well as data from 17 demographic variables were drawn from clinic interviews and intake records of the offenders. The demographic data included age of the offender, educational level, age at first marriage, number of marriages, number of juvenile and adult arrests, number of jobs, number of past inpatient treatment periods, outpatient treatment periods, and incarcerations, alcohol consumption level, recreational drug usage, adoption status, and incidence of foster care, physical, and sexual abuse. Of these variables, several are susceptible to error in self-report, especially alcohol consumption level, which may be subject to the usefulness of a particular report to the offender. Hence, one statistical analysis was made eliminating alcohol consumption level as a variable.

Full text
Abstract:
The criminal files of 101 high-risk recidivating rapists, pedophilic child molesters, and mixed offenders were subjected to grounded theory analysis. Seven implicit theories (ITs) of Ward’s (2000) Implicit Theory Model (ITM) that underlie the beliefs, desires, and motives for sexual offending were identified: (a) uncontrollability, (b) entitlement, (c) women as sexual objects, (d) women are dangerous, (e) children as sexual beings, (f) nature of harm, and (g) dangerous world comprised of Factor 1 (revenge) and Factor 2 (children are trustworthy companions). Chi-square analyses further revealed that all sexual offender types held strong feelings of entitlement, rapists and mixed offenders shared similar prevalence rates for the women as sexual objects IT, and pedophilic child molesters and mixed offenders held similar prevalence rates for the uncontrollability and nature of harm ITs. Multinomial logistic regression (MLR) analyses also showed that although rapists were more likely to believe that women were dangerous, and pedophiles were more likely to believe that children were sexual beings, the ITM is more accurate at classifying sexual offenders who do not hold these ITs, indicating the model’s strong specificity. Finally, grounded theory revealed that the ITs of the ITM clustered into four motivations to sexually offend: (a) sexual, (b) aggressive, (c) sadistic and (d) intimacy. Rapists were found to be the most sadistically motivated, whereas mixed offenders were predominantly sexually motivated, and pedophilic child molesters were largely driven by a need for intimacy. The implications for treatment, predicting risk for sexual recidivism, and the ITM’s utility in assisting in offender profiling techniques are discussed.

Abstract:
A sociological analysis in the Durkheimian tradition was employed in the construction of this thesis. Drawing upon the literature and specific cases this thesis explores the construction, deployment and enactment of these concepts in relation to the social unrest stimulated in Britain by the abuse and murder of children, in particular focusing on the anti-pedophile riots that took place in the year 2000. With the growth of material security in the West, the lives of children have become less fragile. However - as Durkheim and Weber showed -the material development of the West has gone hand in hand with a decline in the dominance of traditional religious forms. One consequence of this is a collapse in time-honoured modes of togetherness. However, the impulse towards religiosity does not disappear and following Durkheim what we need analytically to do is identify where the sacred/profane classifications presently operate. One such place is children; they have become classified as sacred and they: a) represent material security: b) provide meaning because they are aimed at the future, so to speak. However, in order for communities of togetherness to form around children they have to be identified as at risk. The risk, amplified by various media, comes from child abusers, especially, child murderers, who thus become the scapegoat around whose sacrifice the community is formed, and therefore the togethernesst hat was formerly established by traditional religion is once again possib"It is thus not lack of cleanliness or health that causes abjection but what disturbs identity, system, order. What does not respect borders, positions, rules. The inbetween, the ambiguous, the composite. The traitor, the liar, the criminal with good conscience, the shameless rapist, the killer who claims he is a saviour .... Any crime, because it draws attention to the fragility of the law, is abject, but premeditated crime, cunning murder, hypocritical revenge are even more so because they heighten the display of such fragility. He who denies morality is not abject, there can be grandeur in amorality and even in crime that flaunts its disrespect for the law - rebellious, liberating, and suicidal crime. Abjection on the other hand, is immoral, sinister, scheming and shady: a terror that dissembles, a hated that smiles, a passion that uses the body for barter instead of inflaming it, a debtor who sells you up, a friend who stabs you..... Abstract:
This study addresses the problem of the assessment of child molesters. The research questions in this study specifically address the assessment of child molester personality and its relationship to demographic, personal, criminal offense, and treatment progress variables. The purpose of the study was to replicate cluster analyses done with the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) in child molester populations using the revised and re-nonmed Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2), and also, to identify other variables that are associated with particular profile patterns in child molesters. This study examined the archival records of 91 adult male child molesters who were involved in a communitybased sexual abuse treatment program between 1990 and 1993. Information analyzed included the MMPI-2, demographic, personal, and criminal offense data obtained from the child molesters' treatment files, and therapist ratings on the Treatment Progress Rating Scale which is an 11-point scale based on behaviors that the child molester reveals in treatment. The data from the MMPI-2 scales were cluster analyzed, yielding four homogeneous profile subgroups. Three of these four subgroups closely resembled those found in earlier MMPI research with child molesters. Discriminant analysis and chi square analyses were used to examine variables that differentiated the profile groups of child molesters derived in the cluster analysis. Results indicated that the derived groups significantly differed in terms of their reported history of having been sexually abused as a child. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) using the Scheffe procedure revealed that child molesters with within normal limits MMPI-2 profiles were less likely to report a history of childhood sexual abuse than were child molesters with more elevated profiles. ANOVA with repeated measures was used to analyze child molester progress in treatment as a function of MMPI-2 profile group. Although the analysis revealed that significant treatment progress was made for the overall sample, the groups did not significantly differ in terms of their treatment progress.

Abstract:
Child sexual abusers have typically been studied as a homogeneous group, comparing them with non-child sexual abusers. The present study was designed to examine the heterogeneity of child sexual abusers on a measure of psychopathology, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2), the revised version of the MMPI. MMPI-2 profiles of 106 child sexual abusers in treatment for their offenses were cluster analyzed. Three clusters were obtained from the data, suggesting that child sexual abusers are heterogeneous as measured by the MMPI-2. The clusters were F-8-7-6 (n=15), elevated 4 scale (n=29), and within normal limits (n=62). A discriminant function generated by cluster membership was able to accurately classify 98.11% of the sample. The three clusters were replicated in an independent sample (n=50) drawn from the same population. The discriminant function generated on the derivation sample was applied to the validation sample, correctly classifying 80.00% of the subjects. The mean MMPI-2 profiles for the clusters in this study did not replicate mean profiles of clusters derived from similar research using the MMPI, indicating that the two instruments may not be equivalent for use in research using multivariate statistical techniques. The three clusters were tested against amount of self-reported sexual psychopathology as measured by the Multiphasic Sex Inventory (MSI). Discriminant function analysis indicated that cluster membership did predict degree of sexual psychopathology. In essence, the more elevated the mean MMPI-2 cluster profile, the more sexual psychopathology was reported. The clusters did not differ with regard to progress in treatment (though there were definite trends toward significant group differences in the data), nor did they differ with regard to victim and offender demographics. They did, however, differ with regard to level of intelligence, with the F-8-7-6 group being significantly lower in intelligence than the other two groups. The results of this study indicate that child sexual abusers are heterogeneous with regard to their MMPI-2 profiles, and that this heterogeneity can be used to form homogeneous groups. Additionally, homogeneous groups of child sexual abusers can be expected to differ on the basis of general psychopathology and sexual psychopathology.

Abstract:
The contemporary conflation of pedophiles and child sex offenders is a prevalent aspect of reporting in news and social media, as well as in government-sponsored efforts to prevent child sexual victimization. Throughout twentieth century Canada, however, legal experts, psychologists and psychiatrists, and social activists were recognizing the harmfulness of grouping individuals who may have a propensity to commit crime with those who have committed the most heinous of criminal acts. As early as 1938, Canadian legal experts suggested that criminal insanity was a myth, advocating for a divergence between legal punishment and psychiatric healthcare, but after World War 2 had enacted serious efforts targeting criminal sexual psychopathy. Successive Royal Commissions investigating sexual victimization and child abuse revealed that Canadian courts, jails, prisons, and remand services were unable to solely deal with the realities of child sexual victimization. Psychologists and psychiatrists of the American Psychological Association increasingly researched sex and sexuality, classifying pedophilia as a paraphilia using child sexual victimization as a diagnostic indicator and criterion. Gay liberation activists discussed inequalities posed between hetero- and homosexual ages of consent and, more rarely, thought about the total abolition of age of consent. Each of these discourses firmly advocated for a separation between thought and action, recognizing the pedophiles who had not and would not harm children. The historical roots of the conflation of pedophiles and child sex offenders makes an important contribution to understanding contemporary discourses on criminality, victimology, sexology, and sociology, and to the development of efforts which can more successfully reduce child sexual victimization.

Abstract:
Pedophilia is one of the most misunderstood mental disorders in contemporary society. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the discriminatory behaviour against people with a pedophilic disorder by the public at large, the media and current legislations; in the case of the US, the UK and Germany. The political and legal theory of Giorgio Agamben, particularly the concept of homo sacer, will be applied to this thesis, because it can serve as a theoretical foundation for understanding different aspects of the control and treatment of pedophiles as a form of punishment and discrimination. The results of the thesis show that the public and the media tend to confuse the diagnostic term of pedophilia and the legal term of child molestation, falsely assuming that all pedophiles sexually abuse children. The implemented ’anti-pedophile’ laws, oftentimes promoted by the media, can be seen as disproportionate and unfounded, resulting in discriminatory behaviour against pedophiles and the violation of human rights.

Abstract:
Adults with pedophilic interests are often viewed by the public as a homogenous subgroup based on what we know from those who sexually offend against children. The stigma associated with child sexual abuse may serve to deter such behaviors but may also interfere with the person’s stability and willingness to seek assistance in managing pedophilic interests. This article contrasts the sex offender response and prevention efforts typically employed in the U.S. (i.e., containment, registration, and notification policies and public education programs) with treatment programs aimed at preventing child sexual abuse in Germany, Belgium, and Canada. Five major areas are identified that should be further examined with regard to implementing preventative outreach and treatment programs in the U.S.: barriers to outreach and treatment programs, how to expand or reframe current preventative educational programs, implementation of such programs in light of current mandating reporting policies, promising treatment approaches for pedophilic interests among non-offenders, and ethical concerns relevant to preventative psychological interventions.

Abstract:

This dissertation explored the opinions and practice of therapists who treat individuals with pedophilia regarding the role of motivation in pedophilic acts. The generic qualitative study involved eight therapists currently treating pedophiles in private practice, or affiliated to a civil commitment agency. The study participants were interviewed and the data collected analyzed by inductive thematic analysis. The results show that, although the therapists state that the cognitive behavioral approach is the best form of treatment in this context, it is necessary to augment it with other strategies in order to obtain more cognition and, therefore, control pedophilic behavior. None of the participants was able to ascertain that therapy actually prevents pedophilic recidivism due to the fact that they don't have means to find out whether the treatment of their patients was successful. There was a general consensus that the pedophilic urges may never disappear, only the behavior controlled. Finally, the results reveal that the participating therapists do not perceive the motivational factors leading to pedophilia as an essential component in therapy that should be deeply studied. Instead, the value appears to be given to stopping behavior as soon as possible.

Willis, Gwenda Miriam. "From prison into the community : the impact of release planning on sexual recidivism for child molesters." Thesis, University of Canterbury. Department of Psychology, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/10092/2542.

Abstract:
Research on the factors underlying sex offender recidivism has not considered the importance of the reintegration process through which the offender rejoins the community after prison. This thesis reports findings from 3 empirical studies designed to explore whether poor release planning might contribute to sex offender recidivism. In Study 1, a coding protocol was developed to measure the comprehensiveness of release planning for child molesters, which included items relating to accommodation, employment, pro-social support, community-based treatment, and Good Lives Model (T. Ward & C.A. Stewart, 2003) secondary goods. The protocol was retrospectively applied to groups of recidivist and nonrecidivist graduates of a prison-based treatment programme, who were matched on static risk level and time since release. As predicted, overall release planning was significantly poorer for recidivists compared to nonrecidivists. Study 2 was a validation and extension of Study 1. The original coding protocol, and some revised items, were applied to matched groups of recidivists and nonrecidivists from a different treatment programme. Consistent with Study 1 findings, overall release planning was significantly poorer for recidivists. Data from Studies 1 and 2 were pooled (total N = 141) and Cox regressions showed that accommodation, employment, and social support planning combined to best predict recidivism, with predictive accuracy comparable to that obtained using static risk models. Study 3 investigated whether release planning was associated with actual reintegration experiences, and additionally explored released child molesters’ good lives plans. Release plans were rated for 16 child molesters, who were interviewed post-release about their reintegration experiences and good lives plans. As predicted, significant positive correlations were found between release planning and reintegration experiences 1 and 3 months following prison release, and results suggested that effective reintegration might help facilitate living a good life. Overall, results from the 3 studies suggest that poor release planning and subsequent reintegration experiences contribute to sex offender recidivism. Implications for researchers, clinicians, policy makers, and community members are discussed.

Abstract:
The Affinity, an instrument designed to measure sexual interest using viewing time, has recently been upgraded from version 2.0 to version 2.5. The Affinity presents slides depicting non-pornographic images of people varying by age and gender. The expected Chi square weights established for Affinity 2.0 for non-pedophilic, exclusively heterosexual females may have been impacted by Affinity 2.5's 42.9% increase in the number of slides. There were two purposes to this study. The first was to establish new expected Chi square weights for non-pedophilic, exclusively heterosexual females using Affinity 2.5. The second purpose was to employ a Chi square procedure (in place of traditional correlational methods) to re-examine the temporal stability of the Affinity 2.0. Data from 63 participants, who were administered the Affinity 2.5, were analyzed. Results of the analyses revealed notable similarity between the expected Chi square weights created for Affinity 2.5 and those for Affinity 2.0. The re-examination of Affinity 2.0 temporal stability using Chi-square procedures suggested that 86% of subjects were consistent in their responses from time 1 to time 2.

Abstract:
This dissertation undertakes a genealogical analysis of the narrative strategies present in the criminalization process of pedophilia in Brazil. The primary focus of analysis was the discursive production of the judiciary and psychiatry, which creates objectivity about pedophilia and defines the subject pedophile. To accomplish this research, I analyzed the various sources of knowledge that form the discourses on pedophilia in Brazil and other countries such as historical and theoretical texts of human sciences, the specialized literature on the topic pedophilia, prescriptive manuals to prevent child sexual abuse, the legislations, and the jurisprudence available at the São Paulo Justice Court (TJSP). In order to achieve a critical history of the present, I also problematized representations about children and sex, the moral panics around dissident sexualities, and the construction of contemporary subjectivities.

The purpose of this thesis is to defend and prove, through four contexts and various arguments, the research standpoint which states that there should be a regulation of sex robots and the use of sex robots. The method used is an argumentation analysis which is used to analyze the arguments pro and contra sex robots and the use of the robotic device. Through a normative framework, the precautionary principle is applied, along with various Human Rights Conventions, as a ground in favor of the regulation. The concluding thoughts of the thesis show that the majority of arguments prove there being the possible risks of objectification, pedophilia, sexual assault, and rape, that sex robots expose women and children to, and therefore there should be a regulation of sex robots and the use of sex robots.

Abstract:
Thesis (MSc (Psychology))--University of Stellenbosch, 2005.
There is a growing need for research to facilitate a better understanding of paedophilia. This study aims to make a contribution in this regard by providing an analysis of current discourses in paedophilia research as well as a phenomenological exploration of how the male paedophile constructs his close relationships with children. Analysis reveals how the dominant positivist approach to paedophilia research embeds and perpetuates moral and often prejudicial positions that in turn influence the validity of empirical findings and theory, and tend to marginalise contradictory evidence. In an attempt to circumvent these obstacles, it is argued that the psychological need to form close relationships is a universal one.

It is intended with this literature review, make a distinction between pedophiles and child molesters. So in this way, it is necessary since the authors go Stoller (1984.1993),Porter et al. It is important to understand the evolution that the concept of pedophilia has been suffering over the studies of several authors who clashed with key differences including psychological disorders, motivation for the crime and fantasies with minors, that distinguish the pedophile molester. The costumes will be a key point in understanding these criminal behaviors. It follows that, in fact, while the terms are used to describe the same crime, differences exist in the aggressive perpetuate and they will be of maximum intervention with a relevance of these.

Abstract:
Pedophilia is a monstrosity in today's Western societies. His evocation provokes in the population important emotional movements of incomprehension, opprobrium and rejection. However, regular revelations in the media and better consideration of victims since the nineties provide insight into the extent of the phenomenon and make it a real social issue. In this context, the psychotherapeutic care of pedophile patients represents a real challenge for professionals, as it raises theoretical, technical and ethical questions. We must try to better understand pedophilia in its historical dimension and define it at the legal, psychiatric, psychopathological level. The psychoanalytic theory offers ways of understanding the internal issues likely to lead to pedophile action. Thus, the use of archaic psychic mechanisms, even the resort to the act, function as attempts of psychic survival in the face of an extreme situation of danger felt as imminent. Such an economy is indicative of an eclipse of subjectivity.Psychotherapeutic management systems must be developed taking into account the psychic functioning of these patients, the safeguarding of the therapist's capacity, and aim at the subjectivisation of the patient.Five clinical vignettes, drawn from a practice of psychologist working in a prison environment and in a specialized outpatient clinic, illustrate and enrich the theoretical concepts
