Malita, Laura, and Vanna Boffo, eds. Digital Storytelling for Employability. Florence: Firenze University Press, 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.36253/978-88-6453-181-6.

Full text
Abstract:
This publication results from the research work undertaken by the partner institutions involved in the KA3-ICT Project Transversal Lifelong Learning Programme, Learn about finding jobs from digital storytelling(143429-2008-LLP-RO-KA3-KA3MP), with the main purpose of enhancing graduates' employability possibilities. For graduating students looking for a job it is perhaps harder than ever to meet success on the job market. They must use every tool they know to express themselves and to reflect their knowledge, competences and skills. The book aims to explain the main aspects of using digital storytelling as a method for employability, career development, reflection, assessment, consultancy, presentation and communication. Through digital storytelling, students begin to comprehend how all the elements of writing a narrative work together and how to manipulate them for the best effects in readers and viewers. Also, sharing and evaluating digital stories among peers is an excellent way to foster self-expression and tolerance and to create an engaged community of learners.

Abstract:
This publication provides considerable material for reflection on the subject of Mediterranean Architecture between Heritage and Innovation, demonstrating the wide range of aspects linked to Architectural Technology, in which one is struck by the flexibility of the disciplinary boundaries with regard to the various meanings that can be applied to the concept of resource. Taken together with the previous publications of Osdotta, this consents one to trace the developments in the third level of education at a particularly critical time for the university institution; the emphasis continues to be placed on the crucial issue of supply/demand of research; the situation is compared with other institutions and with the world of production in this sector, in a present-day scenario dominated by ever more rapid and incisive transformations. The main challenges left to be faced are to improve the quality of PhD courses, after due reflection on the immediate and long-term results, whilst defining more precisely the identitary contents of the disciplinary sector.

Abstract:
We draw on recent work on peer-supported recovery to explore the roles respectively of values-based practice and of its African-enhanced form,Batho Pele, in co-production and other positive practice initiatives in mental health. Interdependence, as the aim of peer-supported recovery, is set in context first with the dependence of asylum hospital care and then with the independence of community care. Each has positive and negative aspects reflecting the diversity of values in mental health. We then show how the resources of values-based practice support effective engagement with diversity of values. The traditional formulation of values-based practice, focusing mainly on individual values, has limitations when applied to the individual-community values of interdependence. Here,Batho Pelecomes into play. Building on the combined individual-community values of the African concept of ubuntu,Batho Peleoffers a novel resource for interdependence in peer-supported recovery practice and other areas of co-productive positive mental health practice.

Abstract:
While religion and spirituality have played pivotal roles in shaping US higher education since its inception, empirical studies on college student spirituality are a relatively recent phenomenon, gaining steam in the early 2000s with landmark national studies. These studies reflect a growing interest in the inner lives of college students and their journeys for meaning and purpose. This chapter provides an overview of key studies addressing religion and spirituality in the lives of US college students. Unique patterns related to religious worldview, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender are discussed, reflecting the tremendous range of experiences among college students. The chapter also addresses the impact of college on religious and spiritual development, including the role of different campus environments and experiences, reflecting the role of peer socialization and institutional dynamics.

Abstract:
The United States has been the top resettlement nation for refugees accepting, on average, 59,000 refugees per year since 2004. The US immigration courts have also granted asylum to an average of 24,500 individuals per year since 2004. The United States’ role in the world is changing, however, and there is no guarantee that the country will continue to honor its international obligation to provide refuge to even a small share of the world’s displaced populations. The Conclusion offers reflections on the ideological and structural challenges that lie ahead for US policymakers and advocates in the crafting of refugee and asylum policy.

FitzGerald, Brian. The Mendicant Conflict over Prophecy: Thomas Aquinas and Peter John Olivi. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198808244.003.0005.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter shows how unauthorized claims of inspiration began to take more serious form, a development which gave greater urgency to theoretical reflections about prophecy. The chapter begins with a treatment of the thought of Thomas Aquinas, who consolidated the Dominican position in opposition to the challenge of apocalyptic or eschatological prophecy found in Joachim of Fiore’s writings. Aquinas attempted to define the limits of supernatural inspiration without excluding the Holy Spirit from the contemporary Church. He emphasized that the best form of prophecy was not prediction but ‘intellectual’ prophecy, or theological understanding. The chapter then contrasts Aquinas’s work with that of the Franciscan Peter John Olivi, who drew on Joachim’s teachings, as well as Hugh of St Victor’s, to promote visionaries with special insights into history. This contrast reveals how Aquinas makes prophecy appear more ordinary than Olivi’s, while also making it more difficult to discern who is inspired.

Wolfinger, Kay, ed. Mystisches Schwabing. Ergon – ein Verlag in der Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.5771/9783956506550.

Full text
Abstract:
Who were the participants in the ‘Cosmic Round’ that made Schwabing a magical place around 1900? And what can the ‘Cosmics’ still tell us today? The contributions in this conference volume address these questions. Their aim is to revive research on the mystical tendencies of Munich's literary topography at the turn of the century. The topics of inquiry include Karl Wolfskehl‘s poems and Stefan George’s social circle, Ludwig Derleth's secret writing system, Ludwig Klages’ themes and the reflections on group dispositives of the Munich bohemian world. The contexts of the mystical Schwabing, where the Kosmik was born, where Stefan George met the god Maximin, Albert von Schrenck-Notzing carried out his séance experiments and the Countess von Reventlow received her guests, are invocations of a literarily and artistically intertwined occultism. This anthology sets out to reevaluate this field, not least to encourage further academic interest. Abstract:
The literature on the relationship between religion and health is vast, but it is in a state of disarray. One empirical study has been piled upon another, while little effort has been made to integrate them into a more tightly knit theoretical whole. This book was designed to address this problem. It is the product of 40 years of empirical research, hundreds of peer-reviewed publications, and countless hours of deep reflection. This volume contributes to the literature in three ways: (1) a unique approach to theory construction and model development is presented that is designed to produce a conceptual scheme that is evidence based and empirically verifiable; (2) a new construct—communities of faith—that has largely been overlooked in empirical studies on religion is introduced; and (3) the need is highlighted for a no-holds-barred discussion of how to practice one’s research craft.
