Full textSince a majority of the population has some kind of experience using modern technology, they are the target population when new applications are developed. There are still people who never use the modern information technology as they lack both the knowledge on how to use it and the access to it. Many of these people are older adults who have not had a natural introduction through school or the workplace. This study examines the obstacles they face when they use technology that is casual for the average Swedish user. Through interviews and usability testing, we highlight the problems which hinder this group's usage of information technology with the help of a tablet. The user tests cover general actions performed in an application. Five elderly persons participated in the study. The results shows a number of recurring problems affecting the user experience negatively. Difficulties were shown to be so evident that none of the test participants could use the application with satisfaction.

Full textToday's children grow up in a society where technologies such as touch screens, touchpads and cell phones are everywhere and have become part of our everyday life. This results in an increased use of Apps designed for these units and there is thus aninteresting aspect from a development perspective, and how to go about the best way tocreate apps intended for children. The purpose of this study is to investigate thegeneral design principles that application developers can use when developing apps forthe child as an end user and in addition examine how these apps appeal to andfacilitate the child's operation and interaction. This has led us to our question: How dothe developers relate to general design principles when creating apps meant for children? With this question in mind we examined relevant research in order to get a set ofgeneral design principles regarding app development and find the most importantaspects what when creating apps for kids. To answer this question, we conducted aqualitative interview study with professional app developers to seek their views ongeneral design principles. The findings of our study suggest that the developers weinterviewed are favorable to the selected general design principles, but it's not that theyfollow them as a template or guide for how to design for children. Moreover, theinterviews has brought new light regarding other aspects when developing apps forchildren.

Full textTechnology is a big part of every child living in the community, this gives us a responsibility to give children the opportunity to explore and experiment with IT tool touchpad in order to stimulate children's language development in their early years. In the kindergarten curriculum (Lpfö 98 /2010) , it is written that preschool should promote children's development in the simple technology of everyday life (a.a.). IT development is constantly moving forward, constantly discovered new amazing applications on the computer tools we use today. The technology is here to stay! How can we communicate our knowledge to the children within the area of use the touchpad when it comes to children's language development? The purpose of this study is to investigate how the touchpad used in the preschool activities to promote children's language development. The study highlights the authors how educators use the touchpad as a tool for promoting language development of children from a didactic perspective. This study is qualitative as the authors have done their own analyzes and interpretations based on observations, and that the authors highlight educators' views and ideas how to use the touchpad interviews. Eleven teachers at three different departments were interviewed and six observations have been carried out. The result shows how teachers use the touchpad to promote children's language development. The issues that are important in the study answered by respondents' interview responses and the observations don. The discussion includes the authors ' thoughts on teachers' attitudes to IT tool touchpad. The developed theory in the study are discussed and linked to the purpose of the study and issues.

Full textNew technological tools are everywhere in society today, and of all ages. The preschool uses children and educators more of technical aids in the activity. A form of digital technology that has become more common lately is the touchpad. The purpose of this study is to examine the idea behind using the touchpad as a tool and how it is effectively used in the educational activities. The study is based on qualitative interviews with a preschool director and a number of teachers at the same preschool. To connect with teachers' thoughts and words to the practical use of the touchpad in the children's group, there were two different observations in the same department. Since there is not yet much research on touchpad’s in the nursery, we have instead been based on literature on computer in kindergarten. The results showed that the educators had different ideas, perspectives and approaches to why the touchpad will be at preschool. The educators were united on was that they needed training and guidance on how to use the touchpad as an educational tool. Results from observations showed different interactions and learning methods that kids were using.

Full textIn today’s society new technology is being created as we speak and is at the same time rapidly becoming outdated. Still, technology facilitates the dissemination of information. This puts a strong demand on the school to prepare the students for the future. Swedish students are currently good at reading compared to other countries but the amount of students who performs above average is decreasing and at the same time less students are reading larger volumes of texts. This action research study is a way of developing and contributing with knowledge about how students experience reading through for the group a new way of working where different reading styles are included. The objective of this study is to answer the question of how students experience this new way of working with reading. Through cooperation with the teacher of the participating class in the study, who is a co-researcher, a new material has been introduced to the class. The material includes online-books, which can be read using only pictures, text only, both text and pictures and also by the text being read aloud. The students have used touchpads for reading and have familiarized themselves with the material which later on has been evaluated via interviews. The study introduction and the separate interviews have been recorded on tape and observations have been carried out. The students have been engaged and positive to the new material. Some preferred to read on the touchpad and others in books. Some found it best to listen to the stories as other preferred to read themselves. Their different levels of reading has affected the results while at the same time the fact that the working methods varied has made it possible for more students to understand the content in the books. In turn, this affects the personal development and that students are becoming more involved in the education from a special education perspective.

Full textThis is a qualitative interview study which examines preschool pedagogues' experiences and thoughts about digital learning resources as a pedagogical tool for working with language development in preschools and how this may affect the pedagogical design of the work environment with children. The method consists of a qualitative scientific procedure grounded in semi-structured interviews with four preschool teachers. The results show that the preschool teachers see digital learning resources as an enriching pedagogical tool for language development and with a potential in several varying areas in relation to the learning of language. Most preschool teachers deemed themselves sufficiently knowledgeable and competent while working with these resources. They also considered the children as very competent and with lots of experience in the area. There were also shortcomings outlined in relation to proficiency and clear guidelines in the work with digital learning resources for the development of language. This may depend on several different factors such as clarity regarding guidelines in the Swedish national preschool curriculum, Lpfö98, and deficient understanding in this area. The study has outlined both possibilities and limitations in the work with digital learning tools for development of language which, hopefully, will contribute for further development in this area.
