Pattern-related visual stress (PRVS) refers to the perceptual difficulties experienced by some individuals when exposed to high contrast striped patterns. People with PRVS were reported to have reduced sensitivity to global motion at baseline testing and the difference disappears at a second estimate. Theories on the impact of visual loss tend to generalise and can simplify complex issues. Two extreme views are challenged that portray the impact of visual loss as catastrophic or as a minor inconvenience. The objective of this study is to analyze and understand the sexual orientation given by mothers to sons and daughters with visual deficiencies. From a phenomenological perspective the narratives of twenty mothers of visual defficients are analyzed.
